Symptoms of bad dew wipes/felt guides are scratched windows or cracked rubber.
I chose to cut into my doors to change the felt guides. SOME HAVE BEEN ABLE TO SQUEEZE THE FELT GUIDES BETWEEN THE WINDOW GLASS. ATTEMPT THIS FIRST! I did not have enough clearance to do this on my particular car.
If you further want to avoid cutting, then you will likely have to remove the entire window, which could result in breaking of many plastic retaining clips.

Well that turned from an easy job from what I thought, to a headache. My windows are so bad, I might as well wait till I find new glass and just take the doors completely apart. How did they do that from the factory, mind blown.
They are probably pre-assembled before the doors are stamped together.. Some doors have enough play in them you can take the felt guides out through the top without removing the window, without cutting anything like I show.
Yup. I discovered this myself a few years ago. Not a 10 minute job for sure.
You removed the outer doorskin for more access, but did not even discuss how to do that. Would have been nice to know what challenges you faced or how easy it was.

Oh, GM. You built such a beautiful car, and then threw in these booby traps for us to find 30 years later. One tiny little innocent part, and you have to take half the car apart to get it out.
