URGH! When I was little I lived near a military base and had one of these fucking things right in my back yard. They tested them every two weeks and these used to scare the unholy crap out of me. I will never EVER forget the sound of these sirens for as long as I live.
@@sirenjunkie2148 I know that comment I sent was a year ago but just looking back at it makes me feel traumatized about myself / my past. I'm deeply sorry for saying that toward you (this apology might be too late).
LOL!! Yep, I know this siren well!! It's in Augsburg Park in Richfield, MN. The first time I noticed it was in September 2005 while walking with my mother through Augsburg Park. It was right after the Minnesota State Fair, the year when all the foods sold at the Fair were served "on a stick" - ice cream on a stick, chilidogs on a stick, cheeseburgers on a stick, etc. A group of children were sitting on a bench in Augsburg Park near the location of the siren when mother and I strolled by. I pointed at the siren and asked my mother, "What is that weird-looking thing?" One of the children called out, "It's poo-poo on a stick!" That's stuck with me ever since, so that whenever I walk past the siren in the Park or hear it being tested the first Wednesday of every month, I think to myself, "There blows poo-poo on a stick!"
This one freaks me out bigtime. The look, sound, and etc., remind me of the dreams I used to have about radiation and noise and etc., around nuclear and steam pressure installations. Listen to "voice of energy" by Kraftwerk to complete the nightmare.
Gotta love the big horn speakers on these! They use em because they project the sound so it goes a long distance. Same reason horns have that shape. :)
ACA's are supposed to spin counter clock ONLY. It's because they have a directional stator that must spin in a certain direction and the the rotator is driven off the main siren motor.
70's? Nah... these were installed in the late 1950's and the ones in my town were tested at 11AM on the last Thursday of the month. I was in gradeschool in the 1960's and we had to duck under our desks and cover the back of our necks with our hands. One summer I was leaning my bike against the siren tower waiting for my friend to meet me to go bike riding. The siren went off. The noise scared me half to death and somehow I thought I tripped it and would be in big trouble.
I should also mention that one air raid siren that was the loudest in the area was driven by a Chrysler Hemi V-8 gas engine. It is still op on top of a mountain in La Crescenta, California, completely fenced off. There are many people trying to offer to restore it for free if the city will only let them try it once. It is called a Chrysler Bell unit.
I remember the twister at night in 1984 that trashed Apache Plaza. Its very scary having a night twister, not seeing the sky and all you hear are these going off!! MN has the best siren system in the country!
It seems like all the videos of sirens around Minneapolis have a wierd attack cycle setting. I've seen it on nearly every video of yours with the attack signal. Most attack cycles are set to be 6 seconds on and 6 seconds off. The attack cycles in your video are more like 10 seconds on and 3 off. What's up with that?
Why the hell did they replace the other one? It seemed perfectly healthy. This one sure kinda makes sense cuz it’s underpowered but the other one does not make any sense.
@carexpertandy Holy crap, I remember now as a kid when I lived there and now that I think about it, the sirens i heard during thunderstorms sound exactly like this one
The ugliest sirens ever seen? No way dude, I think its the scariest and coolest siren and its not form the 70s, these allertors are from the 50s and some still remain operatable across the country. I hope they can still keep them up since they're no longer being manufactures, I don't like seing them replaced with the new ones.
I think there was one of these where I used to live. But the only tornado siren I ever saw nearby looked nothing like the Allertor 125. Looked more like a tiny cylindrical house on top of the post.
We had CLM'S and Allertor's all over London Ont when I was a cold war kid. CLM made here in Canada, Allertor couldn't tell you wether it's our's or American? But they all sound mint! They tested them enough growing up
@@mitch.daog810 how much would it been if the city had the dealer use a new wood pole for the 2001-130 instead of just installing it in the exact same spot as the old siren I would think since all the rest of the city's sirens are all pole mounted getting a new wood pole would not be that expensive
DEAR LORD! What...what is that thing?! How will anyone know that is a tornado siren? People would just think someone is casually blowing leaves out of there front yard! IT NEEDS REPLACING!!
If I wanted to let people know they'd die in the horrific flames of a nuclear attack, I'd use this alarms loud and shrill sound to properly manifest the terror they should be feeling.
Because it is working off the same sound principle that a vacuum does. A vacuum motor (and ALL motors) make that whining noise cuz of the air that goes through em when they spin, and makes a noise like in a whistle. These, they have a turbine blade that is turned by high pressure air with holes around it, so it does the same thing as a vac motor does. :D
Fam, these sirens are beautiful. They're actually my favorite siren.
I LOVE the sound when it starts up!
You mean at part 2:02

the start sounds kinda spooky D:
No
Well that’s what he thinks
that's the loudest turbo i've heard in a while!
When it first starts it sounds like the looney toons theme
Yet another excellent video recording of a Allertor 125. Keep it up. :)
Westy, there's an Allertor in Bloomington that's yellow. It's on Old Shakoppe road, near the river I think.
This one freaks me out bigtime. The look, sound, and etc., remind me of the dreams I used to have about radiation and noise and etc., around nuclear and steam pressure installations. Listen to "voice of energy" by Kraftwerk to complete the nightmare.
Great video of the Allertor 125! It looks just like the one in Greenfield, WI.

kimmer6 That Siren is called the Chrysler Victory Air Raid Siren
kimmer6 These didn’t come out until 1967, unless you think of the B&N Mobil Directo.
Allertor 125: "You say those new digital sirens sound better? Give me 5 seconds."
Awesome recording of the Allertor-125! This one is a 3 phase 10hp model.
I remember the twister at night in 1984 that trashed Apache Plaza. Its very scary having a night twister, not seeing the sky and all you hear are these going off!! MN has the best siren system in the country!
Actually, the sirens in Toronto are Mobil Directo sirens, which can be very easily mistaken for Allertors because of their striking similarities.

I think this siren is at Augsburg park, if it is, I tried to see it last weekend but it got replaced by a 2001-130
ULTRA NIGHTMARISHLY SCARY:
I am in tears!
Nice color and it looks beautiful.
Why the hell did they replace the other one? It seemed perfectly healthy. This one sure kinda makes sense cuz it’s underpowered but the other one does not make any sense.
That would be a hell of a ringtone for my cellphone.
Are these type of sirens usually yellow?
Is the musical interval on this a 4th ?
This is the same one used in my town. It just lets me know when its time to go out in the pool and swim while I wait for the tornado to arrive :D
@form109 what siren does blow the 2001 out of the water..... all of them!!
We have a few of these in Sioux Falls. What year were they made and how do you compare to the Thunderbolt??
@carexpertandy
Holy crap, I remember now as a kid when I lived there and now that I think about it, the sirens i heard during thunderstorms sound exactly like this one
tornado sirens are supposed to stay on the same note for a long time so you can distinguish if it between an emergancy vehicle
We have these in my hometown. One was less than 1/2 mile from my house. I used to have nightmares about this siren.
Why are you hooked on this?
Greenfield's used to be yellow and were painted blue. There are other pastel blue ones in Milwaukee, and a pastel green one too.
Is there 2 amplifiers on that?
Isn't this a slightlu higher tone than the other 125s?
Is it really mint green???
That friggin rocks.

1979cl1 They started production in 1967
Favorite siren next to the Thunderbolt, good video!
I couldnt begin to imagine what the native environment thinks of this noise lol
This siren was replaced last July because it was sick
This siren was recently replaced with a Federal Signal 2001-130.
I think there was one of these where I used to live. But the only tornado siren I ever saw nearby looked nothing like the Allertor 125. Looked more like a tiny cylindrical house on top of the post.
no way, the whitefish bay allertor has a twin
God, I love the sound of this one.
tmatt1996 not me

That's why many siren enthusiasts lovingly refer to it as the "allertoilet"
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣that's just so funny🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
that is a neat acoustic design for a horn
What have u done now siren head is a thing and it give me nightmares
I remember this video..
Actually, the Allerter 125 was made in the 60s, not 70s. They used them as LRADs against hippies.
I know this tornado siren is loud
And how to find all the state
Happened yesterday or June 6. 2 hours later, we get severe thunderstorm warning and EAS goes off. After 10 EAS's we finally get an EAS test :P
They have tornadoes in Bangladesh, but that is very nice. This is very loud.
It's the THX intro sound crossed with a vaccuum cleaner.
omg that's the scariest thing you can hear!!!
@reuter51 That's a good idea! Next time my town has a tornado warning and the sirens go off, I'm going to try to go the swimming pool!
u know whats really bad. they had one of these at one of my Elementry schools when i was growing up never new what it was until i saw this damn thing.
This siren is now sick. It may get removed check on Aaron Nepsteds channel.
I hope the replacement Federal 2001-130 was not put on this same spot as the old Allertor that would even be louder
It was

@ThatHoodieGuy yea for me its really scary becuz im alone and its creppy hearing that noise
If I heard that where i live i would of thought my neighbors were blowing leaves or something. Never witnessed a tornado!
If I wanted to let people know they'd die in the horrific flames of a nuclear attack, I'd use this alarms loud and shrill sound to properly manifest the terror they should be feeling.
there was one in Hulen but its been removed.
The tuning of the siren: F
more like E
What's EAS?
its not ugly... the noise is terrible but its a very pretty color.
Came for attack, stayed for alert
This one is a single phase 15 HP allertor
i think the noise from the allertor penetrate onto buildings better
OMG THAT IS SO LOUD ON ATACK WHEN IT COMES TO ME
Every time I see an Alerter, I think of the Snokels cartoon.
Sucks that I've never actually seen an allertor
Now i get it! Thanks! :D
Agrh! I have a siren that is louder than that! It's louder than a thunderbolt 1003 and a EOWS 612 ,812, AND 412.
That's bad ass siren .thanks for this (-:
what the heck are you talking about??????
Sounds nice.
luv these sirens. i think the closest one to me is in texarkana tx
Like when the THX thing comes on at the movies lol...but a lil louder
The Yankees would like to hear that siren
that sounds sick
@_@ must stop watching........ and im hooked >n
the allerators in my opinion look like giant turbochargers
2:51 ACA Allertor short alert
i like the color :D its very healthy!
I swear someone else had this exact video....
I just looked it up and its actually from 1960.
i liked the style of those ww2 gent sirens.
they're like the loudest hamster wheels of life!
No shit! That looks like the Turbo out of my Renault 5 GT Turbo!
I like this siren actually. This is a common model in MN. However, Saint Paul is putting up a whole bunch of Federal Signals...lol.
And I found it using google earth! Apparently it's yellow now. o.0
i think theres a gear box in the siren and hooked to the chopper motor
sounds like a 1981 Vancume lol
It sounds great to me.
@soccerk8te38 Yes, Allerators do NOT joke-around.
It kinda sounds like a vacuum cleaner being turned on.
Haha I know right that's the same thing I said
Sounds like ramfett's 2008 video of his alertor

Yet, it would be useful if there is alot of people there cause if something happens they will know.
