  • Another Cyclone on the other side of town. Located on Plum Creek Dr. in NW Amarillo, TX. KDK wanted me to video another Cyclone as they are his favorites. This 50 hp monster really packs a punch. I was a bit to close. My ears were ringing for a long time afterwards. If you like really long wind downs, then this one's for you. It goes on and on. Enjoy. *** As of November 2021 this siren is no longer there.

    I remember a few years back when i actually had the chance to go to the ASC Factory in Milwaukee, honestly to see a cyclone up close is crazy! That actually let me spin one up in the test chamber, they really do have the best tours there and the guy who toured my dad and i through was very nice about it and i still have the lunch bag that he gave us with alot of other different trinkets and informationals in it, definitely was an amazing tour!

    For all the Tornado Siren Madness fans, this is Cyclone the Conehead.

  • @kdksiren
    @kdksiren  16 років тому

    From what I understand, they use the same motor and rotor. Just an omni-directional version that isn't as loud. The T-135 has a vertical mount and projector with rotator and the Cyclone is horizontal that doesn't rotate. I looked at the ASC website and they still make them.

    Thanks for the nice words! No, they do not do attack. We have asked the EMS director and he said he would not do that. We were going to vid another last friday but it was the last day of school and to many activities. There are some Federal Modulators here too, so for something different, will probably do that one next time even though they are kinda boring. Thanks! KDK

  • @kdksiren
    @kdksiren  11 років тому

    They both use the same motor/ Chopper/ Stator assembly. The Cyclone is mounted verticle and is omni-directional. The P-50 is mounted verticle and rotates. It uses the horn assembly to project the sound and is thus somewhat louder.

  • @kdksiren
    @kdksiren  16 років тому +1

    According to the ASC website they still make them, or at least sell them. I think most places are opting for sirens like the T-135 and the FS 2001's as they have a battery backup. To bad batteries can't power these. They last forever. There is no beating the distinctive sound that Cyclone's and the old P-50's/ T-135 produce. Thanks for the comments!

    The EMS director says that there is not a P-50/ T135 on the system. We have seen the photo on the siren archive site too. The director says it is mis-labled on the location. I wish there was one as we have have never seen one in person. They test them here on the last friday of the month at 11:30 AM for 90 seconds. KDK (my 10 year old son) got to turn them all on last year. There are 88 of them according to the EMS director.

    You may be right but I can't confirm about the chopper. But the cyclone does infact use the same 50hp motor as the Penetrator 50. It would not surprise me if they did such as it was manufactured by the same corperation ACA (Now ASC)

  • @kdksiren
    @kdksiren  11 років тому +1

    This type has a 50 hp motor and its heavy duty. Probably would run for a long time with no damage. One stuck on in Hereford when we lived there years ago. It was on for over an hour and didn't seem to hurt it. Generally they don't run them for more that 5 minutes at a time and then allowed to cool off before re-activation.

    @kdksiren  14 років тому

    @Bonemeal2 The T135 (P-50) is really the same as a Cyclone. You probably know this but the chopper is set horizontal on the Cyclone and is vertical on the P-50. The P-50 is louder due to the horn or can that projects the sound. They sound awesome!! As for a Sparton, no we don't have one around here. Thanks!!!

  • @carexpertandy

    @kdksiren I did NOT know that! Knowledge is POWER! Interesting. They took the rotating chopper from the Tempest/Penetrator, and made it into an omni! Quite resourceful.

  • @IndyTheGreat
    @IndyTheGreat 13 років тому

    @neosho53059 Well the Cyclone is not in production anymore, but the Sentry 40v2t is louder (more than twice as loud at 100 feet as the Cyclone), uses less power and has the option for battery backup.

  • @UmbreWolf
    @UmbreWolf 12 років тому

    I know they use the same motor but I wasnt sure about the stator. So you could therorectily replace the chopper on a p-50 using the one from a cyclone? I ask this because thats what sparked the question. A friend in TN wants to know if he could salvage the chopper for a p-50 from cyclone that has a blown phase on it. would save him a lot of money by what he told me.

    @Thewoog34 The ASC website still shows them but a very reliable source tells us that they are no longer in production. There are parts available and perhaps special orders only. To bad too! This is really a very good and powerful siren. Everyone wants battery backup and with a 50 hp motor and 480 V not to mention huge power draw, they are going going away. But the ones left should be around for a very long time.

      sirenfan97 yes yes yes long with the cyclone! It's Jack to see if he's really really really awesome sirens getting replaced. In New Jersey we still have about three 125s close to me. I can hear them for a test at my house. We do not have tornado sirens, they are just hurricane sirens and civil defense sirens. If you look at the original video from the 80s when these first came out they were advertising them on the video and mentioned that New Jersey and 3 mile Island in Pennsylvania bought some. However, pretty much all of the cyclones Band cheese and P 50s on three-mile Island were replaced with T1 21's and T128's. that was only because they could not get the sirens to have battery back up. That's a stupid reason to get rid of such great sirens. There are still a few around on three-mile Island, but most are replaced. If you are confused I do not live in three-mile Island I live in New Jersey like I said before were thereare about three cyclone 125's by my house.

      XxLucy ChanxX would not work where I am, all we got are stinking 2001’s here.

    the 2001 is louder then the thunderbolt. but that doesn't matter because the thunderbolts tone carries further and you can actually hear the low end on the attack signal. on a 2001 you can't. truthfully the only real benefit a 2001 has over the thunderbolt is the battery back up and they don't have a bad tone. (like a modulator or electronic siren...)

    There's so many comments about Cyclones sounding like P-50s.
    Both have the same 50 horse monster and noisemaking parts

      Hmm I though P-50's had 100Hp and had bigger choppers

      They both are the same thing. The P-50 is a Cyclone turned on it's side with a projector

    @88mroux - My dad was in Desert Storm, he was a mechanic If I remember correctly. Now the town he works in also has these same sirens... not much change for him. . .

    UPDATE- as of Jan 2022 ALL the old sirens in Ammrillo have been removed! EVERY LAST ONE, and all they have now is steel pole 508's and the 130!

    @Debo318 I too am from Hereford (KDKsiren Dad). Thanks for the note. We have a video on our page of the Hereford sirens. Yes, these things are awesome!! They installed them in '81. We got a video of a new 2001-130 yesterday (9-24-10) and plan on putting it on YT very soon. We like to go chasing too. Have to ask, when did you live in Cow Town? KDK (my son) got to turn on the AMA sirens in August at the EOC center. This is the second time he did that. Thanks again! KDK dad. Whitfaces!!
