@doverpoint1 The bottom circle is the intake opening. The choppers are inside there spinning, drawing in air through the intake. the sound from the choppers comes out the top opening. There are 2 choppers, each producing a part of the tone, so it is a dual-toned siren. Each chopper has a certain amount of ports, or openings. The more ports, the higher the pitch. Allertors usually are 8 and 12 port choppers i believe.
That has to be the most beautiful and loudest sound I’ve ever heard in my life. And it drives me insane to hear that loud noise especially when you’re outside and that siren goes off. But despite the very loud noise, it’s still a very beautiful sound.
Why did Federal keep the old ACA Allertor Radios to power thier 2001-130s I thought you can't mix new and old equipment together and also would that be a conflict of interest between Federal and ASC by using it like that
ACA sirens use directional rotors, meaning they put out the most sound spinnig in a counterclockwise direction. Since the rotator is drive off the siren motor itself the siren spinning clockwise is a clear indication that the outer two legs of the three phase need to be swapped around. It isn't a problem with the single phase ACA's, since they use center tap motors and will only run in one direction.
One: Stop making the "Oh it's a toilet!" joke that happens on a lot of Allertor videos. And Two: it barely sounds like a P-50 the only resemblance is it has a row of 12 ports on it.
@sunshine19967 im not sure what you mean....some electromechanical sirens make a small AC noise when they start up,more than likely caused by the motor's start up current.
Used to have 2 of these in my area back in the late 70's early 80's... one in Lachine at Bishop Whelan High School and one behind the Dorval Theater in Dorval (Montreal suburbs)
Some road on a Interstate in Minnesota where the siren lives that nonetheless won't be told by everyone, even the uploaded of this video from Privacy Reasons!
I understand that one of the main reasons the 125 was discontinued was because of the high cost of fabricating the cones from fiberglass. Earliest ones were metal, I believe.
@shann: I used to live a few miles from Eden Prarie... and no.. there isn't anything out there that would possibly have a nuclear silo. Mostly sleepy town with alot of old houses.
"because of the fact that the people who happen to be living in the houses have to hear this every first Wednesday" Oh crying them a rivern of tears here, ONCE A MONTH a 2 minute long emergency siren is tested, WOW, BFD!!!! guaranteed the ones complaining would be the first screaming about how they got no warning when a tornado hit in the middle of the night if this was turned off and they'd be suing the city too
Well Tabby26, that big tube thingy or tuba on top(lol) is considered to be a air intake just like the air scoop on top of muiscle car or hot rod to keep the motor cool. At first when I saw one like this here in California back when I was a kid I thought it was a double stacked air raid siren but later to learn that it isn't. I hope I helped!!
honestly out of all the tornado sirens ive heard i dont remember having a problem with the noise ! train horns are usually more of a nuisance than tornado horns !! i think it has something to do with the height of the tornado horns, the soundwaves are up above our heads compared to a train which is lower to the ground and usually alot closer to you !
That is a very interesting siren. I have never seen a siren anything like that before. The one in the town I live in just sits directly on top of a power pole near the schools and looks kinda like a canister with an overhanging circular lid on top of it to keep rain out of it.
Amanda Dane it’s no longer there, but it was located at Anderson Lakes Parkway and Preserve Blvd Although, you can still see it on google maps on Preserve Blvd
I would want it near me.All it would take is for you to experience a tornado first hand and you would welcome being able to hear a warning loud and clear and MAYBE saving your life. Its worth a few seconds of testing Weekly. And Thank God they do test them. Some states do not bother to test.
The fact that Eden Prairie MN invested in installing these along with the matching P-10s atop reinforced Steel Poles tells me that these were not going anywhere until total replacement later on down the road even better that Federal could of installed their 2001-130s ontop of these steel poles instead of swapping them out for Wooden Poles which are prone to Rot and Decay
Here in the NW burbs of Chicago, there is one here in Cary and another in Hoffman Estates. I can not hear well as it is but these, I always can hear. It would be shame that these get replaced with something that isn't as "punchy" and to the point. That sound is scary alone but for sure gets your attention.
Where all of the Allertors and Penetrator Sirens in Eden Prairie all painted red and installed on Steel Poles the Steel Poles were great in terms of longevity instead of Wooden Poles
All of the EP ACA sirens were red, idk why they did that, I’m now thinking EP will paint there 2001’s red, all of the EP sirens are still on steel poles
these kind of sirens to me are too loud and they sound a little scary on the attack mode. back about 10 years ago we had a siren like this one in the video 1 street over from where I live and every month on monday at noon it would sound. even though we lived 1 block over from where the siren is it still was quite loud. I cant imagine if you lived a few feet from one of these sirens you would surely get deaf or close to being deaf. now in my town these sirens have been replaced with 2001s.
@LibbyD1958 Some states won't even bother installing these damn things. I live in south-east Louisiana, and the closest siren to me is outside of New Orleans, a good hour away. I'd love to have some where i live.
Well I guess I can be wrong because I realy don'nt know much about these things but I have seen this same model form another these siren videos and I can see the rotor form the bottom cone or horn spinning and I assumed that thats where the sound is coming form like you said you it can intake the air and push the sound out on the big tube on top and the way its designed and surely matchse well for the sound that produces and I like it, get it? Very scary sounding,, lol !!!!
This was definitely one of the videos that sparked siren interests for me back in 2008/2009.
Same.
I got interestd in 2019
I got intrested in 2021
I never seen a red Allertor ether. Man you got the best videos of Allertor sirens. Keep up the good recordings! :D
I wonder when it was recorded
It Was Recorded In 7 September, 2008
This is a VERY healthy Allertor, both in sound and appearance. Kudos to the maintenance people!
Despite that it still got replaced, along with 4 other Allertors and 2 p15’s that Eden prairie also had

Yes!, finally one that rotates correctly, instead of backwards! Sounds and looks awesome too!👍😁😀😃❤🇺🇸❗

I am a HUGE fan of tornado sirens, I treat them like brothers and sisters because they're not that bad
MarioMario0321 same with my mini ACA P-10, Allertor, and ACA hurricane
MarioMario0321 I agree
I mean I kinda like The sound but ears Feels like its bleeding after I'm done watching it ;-;

Try blasting that at 3am. We don't have siren outdoors in Lowdnes Co GA.
Very beautiful sound especially when it’s being turned off at 1:05 and 2:58
I love both wind downs, they sound so cool, btw, The new 2001s have the old radios from the old ACA allertors

What happens to the radio if it gets stolen
Interesting how they sound like a semi-trailer using engine brake on wind-down!😀😃😀😃👍👍❗
First time I've ever seen a red Allertor.
These were made back in the early 70’s
Damn this is one spicy clean allertor.

😁 hey! It's the siren that looks like a toilet! Haha! Anyway this one and P-50 sound almost alike. Their shapes are so unique. Nice vid😉

Why are all the sirens red in this city?
This siren I’m guessing was replaced by a 2001.
here in cincinnati we cant use allertors without transformers because we have 120 volts and the allertors need 240 volts.
@form109 that tornado siren, why does it do that when it starts
@dockwellian45 actually ive only seen them in CD yellow? this is the first time ive seen red or any other color for that matter

Yes, most siren buffs say the Allertor is by far the strangest looking siren ever made.
