James had one of the more hard-headed cars, Jeremy had the most reliable, being that it's an older Hilux, and Hammond had the right shape of boat, but forgot to add ventilation for the engine so that it could breathe and not overheat.
This was the first episode I ever watched of British Television, I just arrived to Britain to learn English, didn't speak a word and I was there for 4-5 months as a 10 year old. And they were showing this episode, it was a re-run since it was 2010. This episode is particularly close to my heart because when I arrived, I couldn't understand a thing and when I left I watched it again, now understanding everything.
someone said this in another comment - when Clarkson says "Hammond" he is pissed, but when he starts saying "Richard" he is scared - its something that is a constant the entire series.
This episode got me into Top Gear. A million years ago my father sent me a video on how they tested the Toyota Hilux and I liked it, YT recommended me this one and this one got me hooked. I laughed my ass off.
This is still the best Top Gear Challange ever. I have fond memories of my late parents howling at their antics, as we all grew weak with laughter. Top Gear made memories, not just television programs.
This challenge was the first one i saw when i discovered Top Gear on the early days of youtube. Someone had upload it in bits, it was like 5 different videos. I thought he had cut off some bits so i looked for the torrents and found Final Gear. The rest is history, i got absolutely hooked and watched every episode hundred times since then. One of the happiest memory i have from those days
These earlier versions of the challenges have their own golden tinges as they seems more genuine. Genuine in a way that the mishaps are all unplanned, and it feels that there isn't a script. I still enjoyed watching the newer ones mind you, but these older ones are just more likeable for me.
Damn, I didn't know about this. I don't see anything saying they'll be scrapping the cars - or indeed anything about the plans for these cars - but it's a shame to see that exhibition go.
Here are some of my favourite quotes from this very Top Gear episode: * (1:42 ~ 1:50): Richard (referring to his 'Damper' Van): "This is the slowest thing in the world....; but not as slow as James." * (3:55 ~ 4:06): Richard (on voice-over): "James, rather thoughtfully, chose to have his second breakdown right next to me." James: "What is it, me heartie?" Richard: "Engine issues." * (5:09 ~ 5:17): Jeremy (taking on his radio): "James, watch out for the trees." James (mockingly): "Trees, trees." Jeremy (again on his radio): Trees, James! Trees!" James (finally realising his problem): "Uh-oh, trees......." * (12:05 ~ 12:15) Jeremy: "Up, up." Richard: "Rise." Jeremy: "Rise, Toy Bota. It's coming over both sides." Richard (on voice-over): "And, boats don't do emergency stops." This has to be my favourite Top Gear episode when they first built their amphibious cars; it is so funny. Also (interestingly), Jeremy and James both made their amphibious cars down on the River Hamble, near the Solent.
Which of the trio had the best amphibious car?
James had one of the more hard-headed cars, Jeremy had the most reliable, being that it's an older Hilux, and Hammond had the right shape of boat, but forgot to add ventilation for the engine so that it could breathe and not overheat.
@@RaggedyAtom it also sank. So he needed more buoyancy!
The Toybota! But its only fault was Jeremy....
If he had managed to find an engine that works, it would be Richard Hammond’s boat for me.
Hammond's car was the only car that worked exactly as well on the road as it did in the water.
May: "It's upside down"
Clarkson: "Don't give me technicalities"
Top gear can immediately make you forget anything bad in the world and make you smile and laugh
Ive been awake 3 days on a bender and finally coming down. Feel absolutely putrid but this shits still makin us smile and even bother to type this
The music cue when May gets stuck by the bridge is iconic! Appreciate the upload, shame the music is gone.
indeed. The sound editor really did a good job on old TG. I like seeing this in a good resolution, but the original sound was much better.
It's the sting from the avengers theme tune.
Noticed they've changed a lot of the music in these reuploads, could it be licensing issues?
I have the original dvd with the good music and its so much better still like upload though
Ngl 1812 Overture's not a bad alternative
On the Road: Jeremy won this
On the Water: James won this
Everywhere...: Richard lost this
So, in a way, Hammond's was the best, as it was the only one that worked exactly as well on the road as it did in the water.
@@matthewmuir8884By technicality yes
Jeremy won both tbh. Especially for the crossing the channel part
It’s so weird hearing this without all the original music. James entering the water with Land of Hope and Glory blaring is iconic.
Fortunately the original clip is still on the Top Gear channel
@@scootergrant8683 Even some of the stuff on the top gear channel has different music
copyright laws be damned now and, quite a bit, then
Someone change the "graduation" theme to "The Lone Ranger" theme...
@@FilmingAustralia1623- It’s still the original soundtrack on BBC iPlayer.
The unbridled joy in Hammonds laugh as the toyboata capsizes makes me laugh everytime
This was the best top gear challenge
What about the Vietnam special?
I personally like the limo challenge more, but this is definitely a close second.
@@EddyTheLogoLover-ng8lb that considered a special. not a challenge. challenges are smaller
12:41 that line delivery from May was just so unexpected that I choked on my drink 😂

😀
13:00
Clarkson: Richard…RICHARD!
Hammond: HaHaHa!
Is the best bit for me.
Hammonds cackle is just *chef's kiss*
Hammond: it’s going over!
someone said this in another comment - when Clarkson says "Hammond" he is pissed, but when he starts saying "Richard" he is scared - its something that is a constant the entire series.
"Ambitious, but rubbish".
Definitely, one of the best challenges. Lots of genuine moments between the three!
May: Is going as slow as a turtle
Clarkson: Goes full speed, turns hard, and capsizes.
First Top Gear challenge I ever watched back in 2006, made me an instant fan of the show.
Toybota's major flaw: clarkson
That, and it didn't have stabilizers, unlike the second design used to cross the channel.
I honestly think Clarkson flipping it at the last moment is one of the most heartbreaking moments of the entire show lol.
I am from Greece. I remember seeing this episode and thinking how cool the cars are.. I think i was 10 years old😂😂
Woud be nice to see the whole segment. Building, banter instead of only the challenge
2:42 Take it from a resident Stokie, if James had plunged the whole of Stoke-on-Trent into the Middle Ages, hardly anyone would probably had noticed.
This is my favourite Top Gear challenge.
Same.
Would have been nice for them to upload the whole challenge instead of just re uploading these “highlights” though.
Top gear realistically is a big ass Toyota ad because damn bro😂 I’ve seen them take those everywhere
This episode got me into Top Gear.
A million years ago my father sent me a video on how they tested the Toyota Hilux and I liked it, YT recommended me this one and this one got me hooked.
I laughed my ass off.
"Is that your boat?"
"Yes"
"It's the wrong way up"
Feeling very nostalgic after watching their final Grand Tour special. Without question the most entertaining trio ever.
I do wonder if at 13:16 the cameraman thought he was about to film the deaths of Jeremy and Hammond being crushed between the truck and the dock
This and the motorhome episode are my favs

4:30
James reading gay times 😂
momento super cdt!
you know I never notice that and I watched it couple of time until you pointed it out😂
Toybota and Nissank 😂
that's $1 Million price car in GTA Online 😂
sometimes his genius is almost frightening😂
Nothing beats a Richard Hammond stare into the camera waiting for the car to start.
Super thankful for the reuploads 🎉🎉
This is still the best Top Gear Challange ever.
I have fond memories of my late parents howling at their antics, as we all grew weak with laughter.
Top Gear made memories, not just television programs.
YOU OWE ME A MILLION POUNDS hahahaha
Hits different with the wrong music when they drive into the water.
Bad music choice, indeed.
No Baker Street when they drive through Newcastle under Lyme, either.
“I’ll give you a million quid.”
Wonder how many times they’ve said that line to each other and how much they actually owe one another.
My most favorite episode of this trio
Jeremy’s design did cross the channel :P so yeah
Netflix: Are you still watching?
Someone’s daughter: 2:14
From Keel (what their boats will do) to Leek (what their boats will also do)
The end of this challenge is cool.
“-Clarkson has capsized by the sound of things. That is fantastic!”
I just saw this episode on tv a few hours ago, still one of my favorites!
I love how you instantly know who is driving which car.
What was Hammond thinking when putting a bloody stove and other stuff inside?
This challenge was the first one i saw when i discovered Top Gear on the early days of youtube. Someone had upload it in bits, it was like 5 different videos. I thought he had cut off some bits so i looked for the torrents and found Final Gear. The rest is history, i got absolutely hooked and watched every episode hundred times since then. It may have been rubbish, but I really liked Richard's van...
11:06 What Do we Think Viewers "Leave Him" lol 😂

14 minutes? This is a feast!
I had never seen this whole segment. Thank you very much for uploading this!
One of my all time favorite episodes!
5:39 look how close James is from striking that bridge
Ironically I only live about 5 mins from Rudyard lake.
You left out the part where James sort of drives out the water and his clutch dies
"Sailing... really boring!"
They always edited in furious honking in post-production to tell the viewer that it was a awkward situation
Thank you for uploading these gems for us! 💎❤
12:20 That would be one “Pirates of the Caribbean” entrance, but I don’t know! 😆
Whose watching this in 2024 after hearing that all the old Top Gear cars from the museum were being scrapped?
What
That's just a crime
It's so easy to create a top gear museum
Damn, I didn't know about this.
I don't see anything saying they'll be scrapping the cars - or indeed anything about the plans for these cars - but it's a shame to see that exhibition go.
BBC really hates those 3, doesn't it?
This segment was the one that introduced me to Top Gear these three blokes several years ago
This, and the limo challenge!
"Hamster, you got Big Smoke coming"
"OOOOOOOOHHHHHHH!!!!"
"I've come up with a problem"
Holds leaking bucket up
lmao. Those clever producers.
These challenges were so good, always enjoy seeing them even though I’ve seen them so many times
Thank you been looking for this for ages…….the funniest thing ever
One of the best episodes ever! I laughed so damn hard that day! Thank god for torrent
"Nevermind, Things could be worse?"😂
I love how obvious it is that James has never sailed in his life
peak television
i always love when james say co*k at 5:35
Hammond really is built well to stand cold
Somebody has got to recreate this challenge.
7:00, I know on the BBC America it was a different song, but William Tell Overture makes it better.
Undoubtedly this one of the most laugh until your body hurts episodes
Man saw top gear man happy
Honestly them turning over at the last second and effectively sinking is the most Top Gear thing ever.
James mockingly ( Trees Trees ).
James Realisation ( Oh Trees ).
lolol 🤣🤣
Oh the pixels, loving it
Living in UK must be like "oh those 3 are the most weirds looking cars I have ever seen.. Oh ja it's top gear that checks out"
May wins...by not failing miserably
The Leek joke was underrated
German Coastguard: "What are you sinking about?"
It's not very often that may wins a challenge like this
Unforgettable 😂❤
Loved top gear the original never watched the remakes .regards from oz.😊
A1. This is the episode, when Top Gear became supernatural. Haha.
"it's the coldest march for 20 years, because of global warming" 😂
This version is basically if topgear made by discovery channel
Great job top gear 💪💪💪💪💪👍👍👍👍👍🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
That must be the best Pirate I have ever see 😂
Richard just laughing as it goes down 😂
“It’s the coldest march for 20 years because of global warming” 😂😂
I feel like that went over everyone’s heads
Sucks that they changed the soundtrack. Hammonds sinking was way more dramatic and James sailing had the nutcracker
"HELP! I'M SINKING!!"
"VAT ARE YOU SINKINK ABOUT?"
I watched this in 360p for the nostalgia.
13:45 funny thing to say as he’s attempting to use the rudder as a paddle because otherwise he would be stopped.
Clarkson had problems at sea
May had problems on land
Hammond had problems on land and at sea
Another challenge where it is safe to assume no one won
Buffeting
Love you guys 0:06 😊
The subtitles are a little bit delayed

You get so used to James saying "cock" that when he uses other curse words like at 12:42 it's genuinely startling.
