The silver TGA scooter 1 of the squadies was using was an 8MPH scooter that could do 31 miles and was a normal unmodified scooter. My scooter is a 4Mph and does 20 miles on a full charge. But if i tried using it off road like these guys i would be lucky to get 5 miles before the battery was flat.

This is why this show has continued for so long, simply because it takes its viewers along for the ride. It doesn't leave you to be a spectator in a theatre. Their cinematography, as well as narration, keep you riveted, and their natural dry wit maintains you through even the most mundane of parts. It is downright fascinating.

I think in the actual episode they make a joke about it so it probably fair to assume there was some inspiration there but it was mostly just a transport cart attached to a front wheel to steer.
Nice that Top Gear is bringing attention to an issue that affects many people around the world today. Not that any of these models would come close to those the average person can use out of their existing car, which would have become stuck much faster.
