    Hi, for future use, All threads should be 2 full threads past the nut to ensure full engagement. We've had various lock nuts back off and fall off, so now specify nyloc nuts and nordloc washers as standard in any possible locations where vibration from equipment, buildings, wind ect are possible. Just something to think for future installs.

    EXCELLENT video, Mike!! 👍 More tutorial videos like this please. This will seriously help the newbies coming into the trade and bring standards back up to what they should be.
    I love the style of your videos too, very unique and great to watch! 👌 Nice to see quality sparks doing a top job and representing our trade! Keep up the great work!
    Still hoping to bump into you on-site one day! 😅

    For sloped ceilings we like to use hinged ceiling brackets from Legrand VAN GEEL. No need for bending rods!

    Brings back memories of when I worked for a company called HALSION LTD for Laing o Rourke worked on a NHS building doing just containment and unistrut cutting tons of it as you say so many different ways of doing containment! We were very thorough with galv spraying the ends and end caps etc…doing the risers in the stairwells and box trunking was ok but a bit repetitive as there was so much of it! Your doing well your working for yourself so your getting big bucks at that time I was an apprentice doing all the donkey work so was earning peanuts haha much better when your running your own company!

    Great video/tutorial Mike. Really enjoyed the style and content. Just like the good old days,
    As a side note. Worth looking at Spring washer after a normal washer and Nyloc nuts as well. They will help stop any lossening from vibration but it does mean the cost of project increases. There is a caveat with Nyloc, they are less effective if there is temp cycle from hot to cold on a regular basis. I will try and find you a link to a guy who explains it better than me.
    Anyway, great content as always Mike.

    How come all cable trays that we see British sparks use are suspended like this? In Sweden we use supports that goes up from the middle of the tray or ladder. That brackets gives us the ability to lay the cable up instead of necessarily having to pull it through all those brackets that you use.

    • @residualelectrical
      @residualelectrical  3 місяці тому +1

      I’m not sure, just the way we do things, I’m not sure how the loading would work with a center support, I’m sure the tray would bow also

    • @Jay-mc2dz
      @Jay-mc2dz 3 місяці тому +1

      I assume this refers to brackets like the 'Legrand OH150PG Overhead Hanger'.
      They are available and sometimes used in Britain but not supper commen. Partly due to cost and partly due to the British mentality of not valuing comfort over skills and tradition..
      "Don't fix it if it isn't broken. We've always done it like that" 👍

    You bent the perling.......not just the rod. Obviously these rods are not designed to be bent, and doing so reducing the strength properties.....but I'd be more concerned about the roof. I wonder if the roofing structure is designed to withstand kinks every meter or so?

    • @residualelectrical
      @residualelectrical  3 місяці тому

      You can bend rods, seen plenty of specs, drawings and loadings on them over my time going into detail on it - it was the standard for decades before swivels came about.
      The roofing structure has been assessed to hold this load based on this design, that is the only trapeze mounted to a purlin that was bent, literally said that in the video.

      For the Dewalt camp, who want to keep with them, who I started with for a few years before jumping on to Milwaukee, also has a great metal cold cut saw (DCS373NT-XJ) It has a 43mm depth of cut, which is perfect for Unistrut as well as cutting off the excess rod before chamfering with the 3 blade chamfer tool in the drill

    Are lock washers needed in addition to the standard washers?

    • @Jay-mc2dz
      @Jay-mc2dz 3 місяці тому

      It's not common to use lock washers but depends on the specification. In some factories nilock nuts are used but again it depends on the job specification.

    does the additional half tonne loading hanging from the roof structure require a structural engineer to assess the design ?

    • @residualelectrical
      @residualelectrical  3 місяці тому +2

      Not necessarily, depends on a lot of variables but in this case the due diligence had been done.
