    You can also purchase another Intake air temp sensor which is basically just a temp sensing diode....and install it along with extending and soldering the wire on the pigtail to reach the coolest part of the black plastic intake tube by the passenger fender wall opening. Simple job wrap it in loom and run along side intake tube. This tricks the ecm in thinking the air is cooler coming in and adjusts the mix process toward a very slight performance and MPG increase. The response is ever so slight. If you notice this engine has the original location on the beer keg intake manifold but most other vehicles have it located in much cooler spots toward the ends of intake tubes and near Mass airflow sensors. " on other engines" likely for the same reason. Ive had no issues for years and years having done it. Why they would place this sensor on the hot engine block..who knows. Its been said to be a design flaw. But like other odd things found on Mopars like these Beer keg manifolds and their stupid Steel belly pans beneath them.
    They should have been made of Aluminum like the manifold itself. They have completely different expansion contraction rates, steel and aluminum. That is what causes the Leaks in intake manifold gaskets. Heat Cycling and expansion rates.

      Hopefully one day I can buy a professional built throttle body! Thanks for the advice this was a first for me, could feel the increased response after which was cool!

    This mod works on the V6/V8/V10 magnums from 1992-2003. Driven 50 miles so far and feels more responsive! Really hoping for a little boost in MPG!

    Thanks for the video. What does oil in the plenum mean?

    • @Fred_Amyett
      @Fred_Amyett  Рік тому +4

      These engines love to leak on one of the internal gaskets in the intake manifold. It causes oil consumption, loss of vacuum (and mpg with this), pinging and other symptoms. Mine is probably leaking. I really want to fix these major issues but need a shop first, she’s parked on a public road for now!

    • @jaxturner7288
      @jaxturner7288 Рік тому

      @@Fred_Amyett if you can get the throttle body off you can definitely change the plenum.
      Hell you were already half way there, unplug the injectors n pop the rail off dozen intake bolts wham bam and bob is your uncle.
      What’s you want a repair shop for?
      If you got money to burn maybe…..
      Otherwise, you got the tools and ten fingers so bust it out yourself. Hardest part for me on a 3/4 ram was climbing up in there and dealing with that dumb two piece clamp on air box and actually getting that all lined up on the gasket so it’s not sucking hot unfiltered air. Not even sure if you gotta deal with that PITA on a Dakota. 👊

    These 360 Magnum Engines have those Beer keg manifolds and their stupid Steel belly pans beneath them.
    They should have been made of Aluminum like the manifold itself. They have completely different expansion contraction rates, steel and aluminum. That is what causes the Leaks in intake manifold gaskets. Heat Cycling and expansion rates. Buy an Aluminum replacement online. They are available under 100 bucks, i believe. Total design flaw.

    Fuel mileage increase?

    • @Fred_Amyett
      @Fred_Amyett  Рік тому +3

      From my calculations slight city mpg increase, much more responsive throttle. No highway mpg increase for my application (camper Van).

    • @vittoriovuocolo2438
      @vittoriovuocolo2438 Рік тому

      @@Fred_Amyettmy buddy's camper van benefited in the power and mpg area when he replaced his engine with a stroker. Granted he is running a Chevy so he went from 350 to 383. But the extra torque helped move all that extra weight easier. I have a b350 van ( extra long with seats removed,) and a 1500 4x4 pickup with the 5.9 . Both are second generation and hopefully next year build and install a 408 in the truck first then the van. Yes and build thea transmission to handle the extra torque.

    • @jaxturner7288
      @jaxturner7288 Рік тому

      @@vittoriovuocolo2438 yeah a loaded down camper van with an underpowered and smogged out worn out 350 that has to be pushed to the floor to get going and reved out constantly for extended periods just to keep with traffic, that vehicle could definitely gain some efficiency and actually see a slight mileage increase after a larger more adequate engine is installed, that would allow it to operate at a more appropriate and fuel efficient rpm while also spending more time in the higher more efficient gears and possibly even overdrive, instead of screaming along at high rpm and having to shift down all the time trying to get enough power out of it.
      That situation of a severe lack of power for the platforms duties happens often on chassis cab units, extended body vehicles and converted type vehicles. They are often substantially larger, heavier and less aerodynamic than the original base vehicle platform they are built on and therefore the power trains are working near or in maxed out conditions and a less efficient situation than a larger engine would.
      Those vehicles are often ordered and built to meet a price point so they regularly opt for the cheapest (smaller and weaker) engines and then they opt for the highest gear ratio to help make up for the lack of torque. That of course decreases their fuel efficiency further.
      But…you will definitely not improve your fuel mileage on a half ton ram as a result of stroking the 5.9 that’s in it.
      Your definitely not working a mechanically sound 5.9 in a half ton ram so hard that it’s to the point of extreme inefficiency where simply more displacement would improve its overall fuel efficiency, like was possible in your buddies camper van situation.
      Dyna 44s and 46/ 47REs wouldn’t let you do it long enough for you to even figure out your fuel mileage much less worry about it.
      Not like it’s a big deal or makes it a bad idea or will even change mpg that much but you should understand, while your buddies mileage might of actually improved after an engine rebuild and stroker kit install as that does happen in some situations,
      MPG is definitely going down for you after a stroker kit. Just like it does for most all people that do them. 👊

    bruh u should curved the "barrel" inlet and outlet so the air can curve in there. and shaved the torx screws flush and install them with locktight. cool vid anyways 🤙. mopar!!!
