These Mopars seem to only like their OEM sensors. I broke my OEM crank sensor on my 02 Ram 1500 with the 5.9 Magnum. I replaced it with an AutoZone Dorman sensor. The truck ran and drove fine... Until you were at a traffic light. The engine would rev up and try to pull through the brakes! Then, the RPMs would go below idle, then stall the engine. It would take a few minutes to start again. Then it would drive normal again... Until the next traffic light. I took the Dorman sensor out, glued and safety wired my OEM crank sensor back together, plugged it in and it worked like new! My truck is STILL running perfectly 4 years later with that mended mopar sensor! 💪
All this is exactly what I'm trying to do to my 5.9
love it thx
My buddies 02 Dakota R/T has bored t-body and Hughes intake runs great.👍
Polished mine, shaved the throttle plate screws. Trimmed the S bracket. Dont use TB spacers....they are restrictive at higher RPM...I use an old VC200 performance computer to check my mods on a dedicated strip of road.
Thanks for the channel changed out shocks today man what a difference didn't think about it until watching you do it.
Much better than the last one I watched. I installed a V-8 tb on my 02 Dakota 6. .10 over, milled heads and, a MP computer. I couldn't tell the difference. Maybe it's the manifold. Why don't you try it again without the medium riser?
PS: I'll definitely watch more of your videos.
and yeah, I'm sure you know by now, but you DO have to let it recalibrate, or relearn if you replace the TB.
I use a ported throttle body on my 2012 Dodge Challenger R/T, works great and gives it a real snappy and crisp throttle response. Idle was kind of floaty like that for awhile, but that went away after uploading a 91 octane tune in the PCM and changing my electric fan parameters to accommodate the 180 degree thermostat I installed last year. It just hauls ass now and idles much smoother.
Hell yeah 💪🤟
I got one of those on my Dakota and it did make a difference.
Did u have to tune it?
Thank you for that video. That has given me some idea's. For my 97 Dakota 5.2L Mag. That I just bought for $600
Normally with these Magnum engines when you change out idle air control valve you have to make sure it's the same length as your stock one because you can adjust your idle air control valve because I change up my auto air control valve once and I did not set it right so my truck had like a cruise control affect just like how you're having so just turn down your idle air control valve and that should solve your problem
I just ordered a 53mm tb
We have also drilled the guides out of the tps, added washers to the bolts and ohmd them to .75 (turned them up) them tighten it
I'm just wondering after drilling the tps guides what wore the result like idle and full throttle. Did it effect idle?
@@transam8607 it doesn’t affect either one , it will just give it better tip in acceleration, tricking the computer basically
@@onefastlife5017 it makes the injectors spray a tad longer giving you a tad more fuel.
I do appreciate ya. I have a bone stock 318 Dakota that I'm looking to get alil more out of. Prob gonna do the intake, TB, headers maybe a cam. More interested in tuning also. Thanks for sharing.
I know this is an old post. The numbers actually do add up because camshaft quite a bit smaller in a 5.9 verses 5.2.
My brother struggled to get his TBI 350 to work with a larger TBI unit for years till I pointed out to him that ports on the aftermarket intake were too small for his bigger TBI. Factory size is like 1.875 and the bigger TBI had 2 inch ports. We ended up boring out the intake ports and port matched the intake to the heads and that thing woke up so well it loosened the nut on the pinion. Ended up destroying that rear end but we learned from that experiance.
Looking forward to seeing the build and the outcome! Keep up the work you're doing
Man I have literally been waiting since February for my bored out throttle body not gonna say names but getting kind of ridiculous and he's a well-known Magnum engine guy
Don't tell me is a guy name rolf?
@@MrMany2811 I finally got it from him
@@nathanbennett9025 when i ordered from rolf sheffey it was a headache,he kept putting up excuses on why taking so long , took bout 2 months to get mine when he lives literally one hour away from me ,i kept bugging the guy daily and he kept making up excuses,i told him one day i would drive to his house if i need it to, then he finally sent it to me...other than that real good.
@@MrMany2811 yeah it looks really good he just keep saying he couldn't get any parts because of Corona
@@nathanbennett9025 I don't have nothing against the guy,but he kept telling me he sent it ,and i keep asking for a tracking number i didn't get one till i call the mailing place down at his town ,somehow he magically forgot to ship my package,it's was on his car for weeks ,what really had happened is ,he made a label to make me shut up and give me a tracking number ,but he really didn't send the throttle body till i really started bitching, never again i will pay to a bigger company instead of the smaller guy...
It's for sure going to be worth while with the cam, put a set of electronic cut outs just behind headers great for the D strip.🤔🤗😎
That’s what I was thinking of doing! 😈
Does not help ! These things aren’t old muscle cars ! They run better with 3” exhaust front to back , you can run an X pipe but that’s more for open road racing, if that was the case everyone would be running cut outs on these things !
Dude what??? You have 53k subscribers now?!?! I remember you only had like 4K when I found you and started following, good for you man I always enjoy the content, I have a 5.9 magnum myself so all the stuff helps!
Do you remember CFM rating on the FRP throttle body? Hughes has one listed just over 1000 CFM but no listed size on the bore, and it's $100 more
Sounds awesome! Got me wanting to upgrade.
John look up the “S” bolt mod and flat button head bolts
Moparian yes, it centers the air hat and you remove the big bracket across the throttle body
i allways thought, do things one at a time..run stock motor with slicks for baseline times,if you could find a strip open, i hope throttle body helped,an gas doesnt get hung up,i heard it accelarate an shift, mine is faster accelarating an harder tire barking shifts,an all i know has timing chip,or computer an k an n,an maybe stiff springs, not sure what else..but im for you, just be careful an you dont wanna learn the hard way about changing 3 things at once, especially if your not real positive,it worried me about idle jumping up like that, whew.. but yes, love it,an dont lose patience,an good luck,i wish i knew what all was done to mine, its a screamer,an shifts hard an fast...and a partial mystery why, lol..o well...wheres that jazzy, shes simply the coolest man..good luck..
I wonder if just cleaning up and modifying the stock TB would help, seems like a LOT of extra metal is in the way of clean air induction.
PDFs of MP Magnum porting templates are available. I did it and it worked great.
Do you have a Link for the PDF document?
Did this on my 3.9L last year, and the hissing is pretty loud until you get past 3500rpm. It did take a bit for the throttle sticking to stop, but unlike your model, I had to manually adjust the idle rpm on mine when I first got it. It was idling at 1300 before adjusting it. I still need to do a tune on mine, as I have a short ram intake, throttle body, headers, and full MagnaFlow exhaust, but I have to wait until I can replace the transmission. I hate the stock weak-ass 42REs. 😒
Idk why everyone hates the 42re. All you gotta do is get a shift kit and a tune to rev it out to 5200rpms. My lil 3.9 makes about 220hp and it rips like hell. Never had any trans problems yet. I especially love the short first gear of the 42re.
My 46re is awesome with a shift kit
@@TheLoverofhalo what all have done to your 3.9? I've got a 2001 and1 I've done pretty much every bolt on mod I know of including h&s 1.7 roller rockers, superchips tune, shorty headers, cat delete, V8 t-body, cai,180 t-stat, hotter coil and better wires and im just guessing I might be at 200 hp, I'm also getting 20mpg on the highway. I'm about to rebuild the tranny and install a shift kit and I seriously want to put 3.92 gears and a supercharger or turbo on it. Any suggestions?
@@treewino I don't have it anymore but before I sold it, I made custome 1 7/8 longtubes from a Dakota rt... I just cut the first runners off and welded the holes shut, took a 360 magnum carbourated intake and cut the two front runners off and welded plates in place so it'll fit the 3.9 (the 3.9 318 and 360 magnums all share the same block/heads/intake just without first two cylinders). I ran a Holly 4 barrel and did away with the fuel injections. Cylinders were bored over 40, flat top Pistons, custom cam, 360 magnum valve springs, and 1.7 rockers. Msd ignition. After all said and done, made about 400hp. Had the 42re rebuilt, did a manual valve body with a B&M wratchet shifter. Did a locker rear end with 4.11 gears. Truck was amazing but the suspension and body was bad so sold it.
@@TheLoverofhalo welding runners is a little above my pay grade but I don't mind turning a wrench or two. So I'm guessing you swapped the rear carrier to get the 4.10 gears? Btw I have a ram instead of a Dakota.
Edit: Oh yeah, what cam did you use?
Cool video,I always looking for maos on 99 rt 👍👍👍👍
Good shit brotha. Good shit. Keep it up
I disconnect the battery and connect the two cables together for 30 sec or so.
Where can I pick that bored out throttle body at
I know this video is several years old, but the FRP link for the throttle body doesn't work any more. After looking around their site, I'm not finding it. Do you know, are they still available? Any ideas?
Disconnect the battery. It resets the computer. I'm sure you know that. You're more knowledgeable then myself with automotive mechanics. I noticed a change for the better when I disconnected the battery.
mine is mean as hell on takeoff,an all the way thru, has to have premium for sure,or rattles to hell an back, make sure of your timing,an fuel etc...stay cool...
My ported TB has been half shafted
Hey would you know what to check on the top of your head my 97 ram 1500 5.2 I rebuilt the engine and cammed it I got it tuned for the cam and a fuel tune I recently had to replace cap and rotor it will start and run but it runs extremely rough when I take a plug out it’s covered in gas I am getting spark
If you go as far as having it bored out, why not mill out the middle piece and just have a rectangular plate in the middle ? 🤷♂️
"Cruise control action" ie, the computer is relearning, and the IAC isnt set yet.
Best place to find 4 hole injectors for a Durango 5.2
Been waiting almost a year for those throttle bodies to go back in stock
Did you try Hughes engines? That's where I got my intake from. They have throttle bodies as well.
I got same intake and TB with an airraid spacer a comp can roller rockers Edelbrock performer rpm heads shorty headers haven't had it out yet been building it for 6 years now everything is New except frame and cab and dash....
Did you swap your cam as well?
@@andrewmiddleton7544 yes I have a comp cams 20-604-9
Has anyone tested the difference between stock tb and 52mm tb on a dyno? Curious to know the actual numbers.
Without a cam upgrade as well i'd think the improvement would be marginal
There may be a app for your phone you can test 0-60. There is another device you can buy that is more accurate for testing stuff like that but I'm not sure what is it called. Then you would need to go to the track. Still waitng on the C63 AMG... :)
What tuner do you use or do you take your stuff somewhere? Do you use your stock computer?
I think you just need to reset the computer and then drive it around a little to get it to relearn
Is there a way to make the TB not so jumpy from idle. I want to mess with that set screw but not sure if it would help.
Now that you went with the hemi swap...you want to sell the intake and tb
I'm interested in the cam you select and how much chop it has. What is duration LSA and lift as well as solid or hydraulic roller?
Hi from pensacola fla
Hey john thanks for stopping by on this video 💪
What are y'all doing for injectors and tunes
The hissing is intrusive. I thought something was wrong with the TB or sensors but I suppose it’s normal.
What's the first mod you'd recommend for a 360 magnum the person I got it from cut the cats and had 3 inch exhaust put on but that's the only thing that's been done.
Do you think this can pulled off in the 5.9 02 Durango?
I have a 97 dakota 5.9 v8 is it a rt or does the sport model come with the 5.9
I've got a 96 1500 4x4 what kind of tuner are you using for these trucks?
Hey man, where did you get your throttle and tv cable bracket?
Where can I buy that Throttle Bodies
its been apain i know, but you like that power as you wonder, whats gonna happen next, lol...whew...mopar or no car regardless.............
Where did you get that throttle body from
I have a 2002 ram 1500 with a 5.9. They got 1 for it?
Hey man! I need a tb for my 2014 5.7. You still have any?😎😁
Did you reuse the pink converter?
the link doesnt work is there a new one
How long did it take to get it after you ordered it ?
Does the Dakota have a stock manifold
Do you have the boosted motorsports banner for sale?
Sent you back an email I have your banners and decals ready to be shipped out just need your address 💪
@@BoostedMotorsports thanks I'll send a reply right now
Can you put this on a 3.9 dakota
Yea
Can I throw one on mine without a tune
Yes, the TB used is what I sell, we advertise as "no tune required".
only 96 and up that that sucks
what’re the buttons on the side of the steering wheel? mine doesn’t have that
Stereo control
Cruise control
Could it work with a 5.2?
Yes , 52 mm is a bit bigger than stock, they work good for little to no mods, if you remember these things when floored , you have to let off the pedal about 1/4 in and they start pulling, this eliminates that
I tried it. Did nothing. I didn't have a dyno though and don't have headers.
Flyin Ryan's 93 and 91 canned tunes. I could it again I guess.
I would give it another try! I know Ryan recommends it and i did notice a difference. Also this thing is just running a base map no tune for the bigger throttle body and I still noticed it
If you're not getting it out quicker, getting it in quicker will do no good. Probably will hurt low end
If only the throttle body wasn't out of stock lmao
Its in stock now bro
@@christaylor4307 damnit. Didn't get your notification 🤦🏽♂️😂
It doesn't even have thinned shafts!! Lmao 🤣🤣 who ever did that TB doesn't know what they are doing. I have a 53 mm and it gained 1 tenth on my 5.9 ram
No
Do u have a intake manifold for a 360 I can buy?
