- Are You Living Where Your Soul Feels at Home? | Life After Retirement. For most of our lives, where we live is determined by factors that are controlled by (or at least linked to) the needs of others.
We choose neighborhoods that have good schools. We move to support our partners as they look for work. We move to the big city in search of opportunities for ourselves.
Then, in our 60s, we gradually find ourselves with more freedom. And, at this point, we can finally decide where we want to live.
But how can we choose a place to live that resonates with our heart and soul? Today's video has answers!

This is what I am feeling now. "It's my home but not my home".
I was very ill 10 years ago and nearly died. I had systemic mold poisoning.
I lived in Oregon for 30 years with my family. My doctor told me that I must move to a warm and dry climate or I may die.
So my husband refused to move and then divorced me after 30 years of marriage.
I moved back to Arizona where I grew up. I have been here 7 years now.
This was not what I really wanted. I miss my family more with every passing day. I am struggling with this. I am not as happy as I would like to be.
If I move back to Oregon I may become deathly ill again. Staying here makes me unhappy. The thought of being alone away from my family as I age is very depressing.
So I am trying to find a place closer to my family where I feel at home...haven't found it yet.

its not easy to meet people now during the pandemic, but you can still do it. try to find ways to be more comfortable where you are before you move. Maybe living in a senior community would help? Keep trying! Take care
I lived in Los Angeles for 40 years and my son moved to a little town in cold, rainy Washington state. When I visited him, I felt so much at home with the cloudy skies and a cup of coffee. I am moving next week after two years of indecision.
I love the PNW. I love cool, wind-blown beaches and shudder when I see those photos of people packed, beating sun yellow beaches. Yuk. The rainy days make that cup of tea or coffee perfect and gives you a perfect day for reading. When I walk in the woods, parks, on the trails I am in my idea of heaven. Welcome to WA!

Greetings from Hershey, PA. Boy, do I feel this way, living where I do not especially feel at home. I've lived in Ireland, Italy and England. My roots are in Devon. I spent the best year of my life there. Now, I have two cats, live in a second floor flat, attic full of my daughter and son in love's things while they are in grad school in California.
I miss them terribly, I do not have the means to travel or move. I've set a goal to be debt free in a year and to know where to be then. I listened to this video 4 times because it touches me where I am now. I've learned to be as content as possible for now, knowing in a year, things will change. I believe that Christ controls my life because I've invited Him to do that each day, no matter where I am. Blessings to you today!

I became a widow six years ago after 56 years of a wonderful marriage. Of course I miss my darling very much. During our marriage our work took us to live in eight different states. About three years ago a friend asked me if I am "happy." I paused to think before I answered. Of course, I wish my husband were still here. I miss our life together. I answered my friend's question this way. I told her, "I have found contentment." Contentment is wonderful. I do not dwell on my losses, but enjoy my wonderful memories. I am thankful for what I have. A beautiful family, a few dear friends, and good health at 79. I have strong Faith that there is an eternal home waiting for me. The Apostle Paul wrote that "Godliness with contentment is great gain." I say, "Amen to that." Jan Kolb
I just found you recently and I am so happy I did. I believe I am living where I am suppose to be. Personally I am thankful I am not homeless. I believe I am blessed to have a roof over my head, I feel safe, loved, and no matter where I live that as long as I am on the Lord Gods path that's where I want my soul to be that's home for me! I turn 60 later this year. I just bought 94 acres on the side of a mountain today, I’m hoping I’m eventually headed to where my soul has always wanted to be. This has been a dream my whole life, today I think I threw caution and naysayers to the wind an embarked on not only a new journey, but a new chapter in my life. The best is yet to be.......

I think if one moves a lot because of family circumstances, work, or for whatever reason, it is possible to get to the point where nowhere seems like home anymore. I am originally from Scotland, but have gone back very few times in the last several decades. Last time I went back I felt that I really was a tourist in my own home town, although many of the same buildings are still standing. I sometimes think I would like to move back there, but to what and for what? I have no one there anymore. I think the answer is to take a long holiday in that place we are hankering after. Really, I think we are trying to recapture the time of our youth, hopes, dreams.

Yes I am happy where I lived after living in New York City for 64 years I was happy to downsize and relocate to a different state. I am now 67 and as of this writing do not regret moving. Yes sometimes I get nostalgia when I see New York scenery in movies and TV but I feel it’s only normal to remember and have fond memories of your past and turn the page to the next chapter of my life after all I am the author 📝
Me too! NYC was my home from age 21 to...60 or so. Loved it (mostly). But that was then, this is now. Wouldn't go back if I could. Manhattan has changed and so have I.

One experience that always sticks with me... I was with my aunt very near the end of her life. After retirement, she moved away with her husband to another state, separating from old friends but close enough to visit when you're healthy. When she moved she was very active and younger but as she grew older, of course it's more difficult for everyone to be as mobile.
Her husband died first and when she was dying also, the one thing I sensed that she yearned for more than anything were to have her old friends with her, at this time. Her peeps, her tribe of women/friends. I'll never forget that and I believe if she had them with her, she would've lived longer, or at the very least her quality of life would've been richer. I'm not saying everyone would feel this, or that I would even feel this, but it gives me pause and it does inform my decisions about the future.
Hi his is confirmation for me as I have been planning to move out of California. Not happy here and can't afford it. I got a word yesterday also. I need toxwork from home to supplement my income.. I love your videos . just found you a few days ago. God bless

What a wonderful video, it’s just so close to my heart! I have been living in Melbourne, Australia for 25 years and my soul is not at home here. I was born and raised in Moscow, Russia , but I wouldn’t want to live there now either.
Interestingly my heart felt at home in Italy! But it’s a scary step to take alone.... although I’m thinking about it.
I have 2 children and 2 grandchildren here, but they have their own life , so I want to think about my happiness now.
If you feel at home in Italy go. There are houses to be bought for $1 there on islands if you renovate it.
Hi Margaret , thank you for all you do for us lady's , I appreciate it so much! 😊 l am a widow ,have 3 grown lovely children. I do like where I'm living , I live in the great state of Massachusetts! It's a large single home , my daughter lives in the big part and I live in the area of 3 good sized rooms , consisting of one bedroom,kitchen, living room, and bath. I like that my daughter and son in -law are not far away. M two sons live about a half hour away. We are a close family. I thank God for all the blessings He has given to me and you are one of them! 😘

When I read the title of this video, I never dreamed you meant actual locations. I thought you meant living where your soul feels at home was a state of being where you are at peace in who you are and what you believe. A feeling of fulfillment within yourself, a place where the soul is set free. Non the less, the video was good and as usual you were lovely. 🌹

I made few big moves in my life. I love where I am but I wish I was back in the past and did things differently. Nobody knows if I would have been better off. I like my current city but I love Charlotte NC USA. I can't go there now because I have no one there. Plus here I have responsibilities. I wish I could move from my current house but I have no money to go in desired location. In life we need to be smart. I wish I was smart.
I find that water soothes my soul. Want to live where I can see a body of water anytime. Near the ocean is my personal dream in Nova Scotia Canada. I live in Barrie Ontario and no where near the ocean. I am downsizing and my requirement is to live near a lake that I can walk to. Lakefront is expensive but who knows. Maybe it will happen for me.

One reason I am not there M Parton. How could I cope with the winters? But I still love it there.
I grew up beside the ocean, in cape forchu nova Scotia, there is a long beach with huge rocks and a lighthouse.it was beautiful.it never changes and the air tastes salty, you can smell pink wild rose bushes.i used to walk my two dogs and listen to the waves crash.
I feel the same way my family and friends live where I am so I'm kind of torn
I’m 3 months behind on this topic but...oh well. I followed a husband to VA for our jobs in DC 30 years ago. Thought it would be for only a few years and then I would be back to my cherished Northwest. I’ve traveled the world and lived many locations coast to coast in US. Husband long gone and living in Thailand but we were here during my boys growing up years and they’ve married and settled in. They are my only family so I’m where I need to be. I was raised in Alaska and probably could not manage the cold again but my heart soars when I take trips to the NW and Alaska. The trees, the mountains, the water, the friendliness...I often joke that I don’t know why the Lord dropped me here. I’m grateful to be near my boys, I have a comfortable home, I have my pups, I’m financially ok, I’m where I’m meant to be but not where my heart feels at home. That time has passed but one day my spirit will return to that joy.
Great topic...I'm happy where I live..but think I might be happier some where else...I am 43 days away from storing my stuff...and flying to Thailand for 6-9 months...there I hope to sort out where and what to do with the next few years of life...
good morning margaret! such a nice conversation today! It brought me back to my years when, because of my husband job, used to travel quite a lot-with such a joy I must say. You quote"wherever you go, there you are". Yes. I was born in Rome, I live in Rome and i remember that time we went to the wonderful SouthAfrica (20 yrs ago)and we took a "Trip in the Forest of Timbavati" with our children 8 years old, sleeping in a bungalow (maybe a hut), expecting the lion at the door, without undressing for the night 'just in case of escape'... "Wherever you go, there you are": the next morning,breakfast around a big fire, with something resembling to a white creamy soup...For me breakfast is Coffee:I run back to my hut, took out from a bag a little coffee machine - MOKA - put some coffee powder in it and run back to the big fire, found a little corner and put on the MOKA. It started bubbling, all people around "....ooohhhh" and coffee came up they start laughing with happiness.So, my soul was there with all the people around laughing for the 'happening'. ciao Margaret! I live in a small town, or should I say it was small. There are hundreds of houses being built, as it is just 40 miles north of Toronto,Ont. and lots of people want to get out of tthe city. I would love in Orillia witch is about 45 miles north of here, where our children live and it is a lovly place, it has two lakes and lots of parks, but we have a nice home and can not find a house we would be able to aford.. So home is home right here. And happy to have a home.
I am blessed and love where I live, so happy . It is my hometown, did move away and realized in a short time I was not feeling 'at home' there. Got to move back and am here to stay. It took leaving to find that out .
I moved to Aotearoa New Zealand nearly 40 years ago, as a new bride, 22 years old and I've lived here ever since. I was born and grew up in Germany. To me, home is where my family is, my children and my grandchildren. My husband is Maori, the indigenous people of NZ, and he feels very strongly that there is the place where his iwi/ tribe are based, that's where his bones belong. I've always felt more like a gypsy. I agree, that a lot depends on yourself and everywhere you go, you are there - all of you, problems and good things.
The things that you have said in this video are so true for me. I am longing to go back to where I was born. I know that this will happen,but not now. It is my little secret plan. I don't think that it is about the grass being greener. Thank you so much for putting into words what has been really getting me down for ages. I am normal after all. You are so lovely.

Great topic for discussion.I moved where one of my daughters live here in the US .I moved here 6 or so yrs ago to help her out during a time she needed me ,and its been great to be close to her,and the grandkids ,and two of my older grandsons are also here with me.My oldest grandson graduated almost 2 yrs.ago,and the other this summer.I love that I am closer to my daughter, but this isn't where my soul is, or where I feel at total peace .I Did live in this state several years ago when daughters were younger,but moved away to where I had called home growing up.My second to youngest daughter at age 19 was killed there in 1999 in an auto accident because of a driver high on drugs.She is laid to rest there ,and I planned to never leave there,and I miss being there ,but if I left to return there I would miss my family here.So I am very torn where I belong. I was diagnosed with a Pulmonary disease about 4 years ago after moving here...It is very stressful at times here as my life here is different.I do hope that in the near future I can come to terms ,and be where I feel I belong,and where my soul is ...Thanks so very much for sharing this topic,and all your live discussions..etc.I find all very informative,and comforting...enjoyable.You are such a sweet woman..Have a great day..Phyliss
Phyliss: So sorry to read you lost your youngest daughter and in such a tragic way. It´s hard to give advice but I feel you should do what is best for your health and what keeps you closest to other family members who can provide a support system for you. You will always carry your child in your heart and therefore with you. Like Margaret says, it has to do with compromise and we have to find home within ourselves. I also am not where I thought I would be living in old age, alone and without the partner I spent almost 40 years with, in an apartment instead of a house surrounded by land and trees, without pets except one cat. And yet, each day is a gift and each evening a reason to give thanks for what I still have and can still do. Embrace imperfect but still worthwhile Life and live near the people who love you and whom you love. Wishing you all the Best and Peace.

Yr daughter will always be in your heart where ever you are. You are surrounded by other family members that most probably knew her and by others that had never met her. You could keep her memory alive and also make her known to those of a different generation.

I’ve lived within 10 miles of the same location in north eastern Kentucky since my birth 62 years ago. Later this month, my husband and I are leaving to travel. We sold our home and most of our things for this purpose. We will travel and explore and “try on” different states and cities and climates until we tire of the travel or find the place that “fits”. It may be two years of adventure or it may be 10.
I just moved to Arizona from California. Made fast decisions after my mother passed away. This will be the first time I have ever lived alone. I am excited I will be in my own place but fearful too. I like that quote : where ever I go there I am. So true, I also retired, I will be able to do all the things I enjoy and and yet go back to California often. I've been living in Venice, CA for over 40 yrs and really love it here, but my duplex has been sold and I will need to relocate probably within the next year. My only daughter lives in Moscow and I just lost my 85 yr old Mom in March. It will be very hard to leave this place I have called home for so long, but I am slowly beginning to embrace the change and the chance at a whole new life style somewhere else. Thank you for your perspectives, they are always very helpful!
This is one of the most meaningful down-to-earth discussions I've ever heard. It's the conversation of my heart. I grew up in a military family, so gypsy is in my blood. Married life continued in the same vein until we moved here to NC. Bought a home and stayed put for the next twenty years. Myhusband and I just finished several months of preparing our house to sell and looking for our next one - only to discover that what we want is still here, for now.
A friend of mine once said; the grass is greener because they water it.
Whenever I think of yearning to be somewhere else I think of the quote you mentioned and Matsuo Basho's poem:

Thanks for this. This is totally where I am and have been for some time. I am over 60, single, and I have lived in the same large southern city for 40 years. I am very tired of it and I'm totally aware I am not in my right space. I would rather be in the UK, Scotland, Wales, The British country side. Even Colorado or Vermont would work. To me it's really painful to live some place that is not a fit for your spirit. Hopefully someday I will gather my courage and take the next step. Thanks again
Through my experience of living in 26 different places in the world I go with the old saying 'home is where the heart is' and in my case no matter where you live you will always find obstacles in one way or another. My ex husband used to say I can make a hut into a home, you take yourself where ever you decide to go and then make the best of it!! X
A very nice topic! This is a major theme in my life. I am glad Margaret, that you have current ties to your family (I just realized today, that I don't have that). My family then, would be in the past, but my parents are gone. My present is unhappy (arguing back at people who bother me, or who talk about me). I'm alone, and on benefits. I did not have a career or college completed. I am in a city, but know no one, except in a program (not socially). Hard, when it's limited, alone, and with problems. UA-cam has been great! inspiring, and fun. I am glad you have this page. Nice to have this mentorship for this time of life. The community helps too. I wish you continued happiness, and your family as well, and everyone here.

I live in a place I retired to. It's away from big cities and the air blowing in from the Pacific Ocean is so fresh. I love it here in this small town where I can walk to everything! If I lived anywhere else it would be at another place I call my spiritual home, Mt Shasta. It is land bound though. When the summer fires happen, it fills with smoke. So i visit there quite often.

This feeling of ‘home’ to me is internal,.you are right Margaret that wherever you go there you are,all your ‘baggage’ stuff dragged along with you,!my ideal I’ve always said was to live walking distance from a small town yet close to woodland walks,in the uk with the joy of a constantly changing landscape of our seasons,so here I am,BUT internally the soul yearns for more…..oh dear!
My heart is happy where my children are. I have only one grandchild so far and this is where I am and want to be. I love waterfalls and believe id like to live in a wooded area. Im interested in the tiny house movement and am going to try them out by renting different types to see if id like living in one. I'm still working so I may only do this on the weekends. Im continuing to save as much as I can. Bless all women who are on this journey to find an earthly place were their soul finds peace.
I have lived in central Nebraska since my parents and I moved here in 1973 when I was 18 ( from Pennsylvania), and though I have lived here all these years, I have always wanted to live on the west coast. My parents have both been gone for quite a few years, and I have been working my way towards moving to Oregon since 2012. This area has never really felt like "home" somehow, though I have been happy here. It is very much in my comfort zone, but it feels off now. I just feel as if I am done here. Because I have to overcome that "comfort zone" feeling, I take my time and do my preparations step by step, but things keep happening to knock me down. One step forward and two steps backwards! Lol!
My husband and I have had to move several times for his career and when it came time to make a major change before he retired we both agreed it was best to be near our daughter and her family. We had always been very close and when we suggested buying a home together we were so happy when her husband and her agreed. The location wasn't the important part, being near our family was. We will always love the west coast of Canada but family is more important.

Interesting topic. I've lived where my soul feels completely at home (San Ramon, CA) for almost 30 years. But, as I near retirement, without a financial miracle, I will have to move because my retirement income will not be high enough to remain here. Hopefully, I will meet someone (my person?) who loves here as much as I do and we can split our expenses. THAT would be wonderful on both fronts. Love your videos, Margaret. This is the perfect video for me, because I have been struggling with actually moving to or only spending three months out of the year near one of my children and grandchildren. It would be quite expensive to move and the cost of living is so much higher where they live. Being on a fixed income at this point, good decisions are very important if you want to be comfortable. So going there for 3 months of the year sounds good and I could get away from the cold for the months as a bonus!
Vera T I am in the exact same situation. It sounds like it will work for me too to go and spend three months with my family who are about a 4 hour drive from me. How very apt. We have recently moved from the Midlands (UK) where we were both born, worked and brought up our son for all our lives(mid sixties now). Our new home is near to the Malvern Hills and we both could not feel more at home although we even looked at living in Liverpool to be by our son & his family but like you say Margaret it just didn't feel right. I wake up each morning and feel so lucky. (We do visit our family and stay for a couple of days) xx
Great topic. I've always struggled with this idea of "home." I've lived in several States, east coast mostly, and also over seas for a spell. My friends and family often ask me WHY I move so much and the reason is simple: I'm searching for that place where I feel most at home and also I have a job that allows me to move, so why not? I guess it's strange to some, but since I don't have any kids, I don't feel the need to be tied down to one location. Like Lisa, I've made a list of the "type" of place where I think I would feel most comfortable and for my most recent move it was all about the weather. I moved from Philadelphia to South Carolina and I have no regrets in that area. I like waking up to sunshine and NO Snow and it feels right in my heart. South Carolina may not be my final stop as it's lacking in other areas but I know I'm on the right track. :)
I want to live in Berwick-Upon-Tweed. It's the northern most town in England where my people are from. I visited and fell in love.

In 1983 I was living in my home town and got married in Nov of that year. In 1985 we had a daughter that was born with Spina Bifida and by the time she was 6 months old we moved from Ga to Orlando, Fl. It’s been 33 years of living here in Fl and not once have I ever been happy here. There truly is something to be said about living in a place that only has one real season which is hot as hell nearly year round. For the exception of a few days of what is called a “cold snap.” It messes with your internal psyche. My soul has grieved beyond belief to move back to Ga but my husband likes living here. Now I’m 63 years old and I doubt we will ever leave Florida...
I lived in many countries all over, now live in Southern California and love it! Lived on a boat for 7 years with my husband after we retired and traveled all over. As long as I am close to the ocean then my soul is happy!
I m living in the city I was born in. Lived here all my 69 years except for higher education. My parents still live in the home I was raised in, all 3 of my adult children and grandchildren live here as well. This is home. It has everything, the ocean, the river, a thriving downtown and plenty to do. 30 miles from Boston, MA.
For most of my life I was near the ocean. Then I moved to the mountains to enjoy something completely different. So glad I did.
I love this segment, Margaret. I do feel restless where I am right now. My hometown has always been where I have felt most comfortable and where my soul is at peace. But it is also the fastest growing city in our state, and really not the same with all the change. It actually hurts me to visit. So now I am a seeker this late in life. I do love the notion you discuss of trying out a place temporarily, visiting while deciding. Since I have 2 more years to work, it gives me time to explore. Thanks for such a worthwhile topic! Im living exactly where I want. I love the desert beauty, climate, flora and fauna. I love the hot mineral waters that spring up in this area. I almost feel like I am part of the earth in the desert…..that the desert is an extension of me. Great topic.

I've just invested in my future by leaving a rainy climate that I was unhappy in, and moving to southern California at age 55. I hope that by the time I retire, I'll feel at home and have new friends and loved ones for mutual support. But I know it doesn't happen overnight.

Just found your interesting videos two weeks ago Margaret! Loving them. I am living where my soul belongs, back where I was born in Cornwall U.K after living in South Africa and various parts of the U.k all of which I enjoyed whilst I was there but they weren’t my real home! 😊

This is so relevant to me at the moment. I am not happy where I live but the choices are limited when you don't have much money. I've compiled a soul list and I agree that it is essential to understand that you take yourself with you. I really think that I need to live in two places for six months at a time. This means renting for half the year and trying to buy a really cheap place to come home to. Thanks for another stimulating video. You're great Margaret!

Just now catching up with this video (June 2022.) I’ve lived in suburbs of Michigan all my life and I cannot imagine living anywhere else. I need to be around lots of trees, freshwater lakes, four seasons (but do not like heat), English speaking, medical centers, with all modern conveniences yet a country feel. I love arts and culture and prefer to be in a smaller town atmosphere. I have researched the possibility of moving elsewhere in US or even overseas, but always decide that Michigan is the best place for me. (My ancestors came from Germany and Sweden so northern living is in my blood.)
Guilt is stopping me…it’s taken my husband almost 20 years of hard work renovating our fixer upper country home and now all I think about is moving to a small simple place in the city
This was such a good video..I am not so happy where I am ..I gav up my house to move not only to a different state but a 55+ retirement community apartment.. after 3 years I’m stil adjusting n wishing I had a small balcony so my could sit out n enjoy being outside n evn hav small plants there as well.. it surely would help n help me get over the move n feel better at home… Thank you n God bless u Margaret u hav no idea how ur videos impact me..

I am now 70+ and moved to where I am now living almost 3 years ago. This is and feels like home and I am always happy to come back to my haven even after a wonderful vacation elsewhere. But you are so right in saying that you always take your past with you. No place is perfect, we are not perfect and culturally people can be so different, which makes communication difficult at times even if one speaks the language. That takes acceptance and a willingness to adjust. Where I live now is exactly where I want to be from a residential, geographic standpoint. More importantly, I am comfortable in my own skin, accept the cultural differences around me and try not to be nostalgic about the Past.

I was raised in NJ. I LOVED my childhood. My summers found my entire family at the Jersey shore. Getting sunburned & living for the sound of ocean waves. My soul was seeded in the summers; knowing even as a child that ocean waves ... sometimes angry as they hit shore ... like a troubled teenager ... “felt right.” As an adult, due to my husband’s work, we have lived in MI. Unable to visit an ocean easily. Soooo I go to Ludington on Lake Michigan. It’s NOT the Jersey shore but it’s similar. For two weeks we stay where I can remember more vividly my “once upon a time.” Because at 63 ... those childhood years become more sacred to me; by the year.

I'm very happy living where i was born. I have travelled extensively my entire life but i always feel so relieved when i fly back over my city on my way home.
I once heard a young African girl describe her happiness at returning home as getting off the plane and 'smelling the beautiful African air'. I knew exactly what she meant.
I absolutely love travelling overseas and will continue to do so for as long as possible but my heart will always belong in my home town.

Great topic to cover more. I’ve been in the midst of this for years, waiting for retirement to act. Then the pandemic hit. It certainly caused me to reconsider somethings + it’s had a massive effect on numerous markets as well as the economy. Lots of decisions and it’s feels more challenging in some ways as a single person with no children.
Great topic. Love this video. Native Californian, left with family of six in 2005. One decade in Texas. Loved Houston (9 yrs) and San Antonio (1 yr) relocated to Reno, Nevada 2015. I love it here , Lake Tahoe and the Sierra Nevada Mountains. Beautiful like Switzerland. But, I am to the place that I know I could be happy anywhere because each place has its own beauty and wonderful people. Love the topic.
I'm happy where I live. I've been living in this same town since I was two years old. I turn sixty tomorrow. I've done many trips out of town and had some wonderful holidays but it is always good to come home. I am so lucky to have my family close. Have a great day Margaret.🌺🌺🌺

Great video! Not happy at all where I live only because I have no family here and my spouse has died. Once a beloved spouse dies, everything changes. It takes a lot of time to sell and get the money together for a move. Who knows, I may move several times trying to find that place that feels right.

I'm 60 and have lived in or by Nashville, Tennessee my whole life and always wanted to live in another state before getting to old to enjoy and also health care, hospitals and not to bring everyone down but these are important as we age, but husband still works and health insurance is outrageous in this country! Another topic but I do love your necklace, would you mind sharing where you purchased it, on a travel or local, have a lovely week!
I've been spending a lot of time thinking and searching options of my future retirement. I'm 51 and I'm lost.. basically. I live in north east of uk and have searched for my place north (Scotland) & south (north Yorkshire). I have seen some lovely apartments but are for over 55's. I feel like I'm rushing forward as I just want to be there & perhaps leave my stressful job, work part time and travel. My parents are 77 and thankfully healthy & hearty so I am blessed. Unfortunately we are not a close family but we do all get along fine and love each other.. At 20yrs old I travelled the world for 6yrs but returned 24yrs ago and have never felt settled. No children or partner but I quite like my quiet life..I just wish I could find my place. I've only just found you all and subscribed - so a year behind you all.. I thought of retiring in the town where I grew up, but decided that stay here, near my children, the airport, the people I have made friends with.My house and garden is where my soul feels at home, even if its a little too large. Here's birdsong all day, quiet streets, I can keep my pets, love my garden. I feel uneasy between too many people. Thanks for reinforcing my idea
I can really relate to this, I came to Australia when I was eight although I went back to the place I was born several times before my sixties in fact I met my now husband there the first time I went back which was 38 years ago now it wasn’t till I went when I was sixty that now I feel I want to be there permanently, of course I can’t as I would miss my children and grandchildren terribly yet my husband has never wanted to be here either so it would be easy for him to go back, we now try and go for three months of the year as you mentioned in your video but yes I do feel my soul belongs there my husbands definitely belongs there there has not been one day that goes by without him saying so
I have just found your channel after seeing it referenced in a Guardian newspaper article. I'm 58 but a lot of your topics touch me at the life stage I'm at. Regarding this particular video, I am coming to the end of a 4 month stay in Paris, a city I've always wanted to live in. I have a job, house, partner and adult children in the UK so I will go back but Paris is a place where I feel at home and if circumstances allowed I would stay here. In the immediate future this experience has crystallised my desire to move back to a city from the countryside where I normally live. This is definitely a change I want to make when I get home but it will have ramifications for my relationship - my partner likes living in the country. Your videos inspire women to take control of their lives in later years and make the most of them. BTW, I am making a side trip to Geneva next weekend, first ever visit to Switzerland, staying in a hostel! Private room though.

I was born in New York city I currently live in florida I love it but recently I want to travel and have extended stays 3 months or more. I am planning to start with Mexico, exploring different cities . IN the past I traveled to Peru in 3 occasions. So bottom line I want to explore, see and feel different cultures. That's where my heart is at this point in my life😉

I live in northern Missouri where my daughter and grand children are. Which I enjoy!! But you had a video today of house sitting in other countries!! Wow I could do that! I want to get my passport right now!! I am leaving for Florida Sunday for nine days with a friend from second grade. We are 69. She is married but I don't care..he is a nice person too. I was there last year for nine days..enjoy ed it..this time were going to do yoga..walking ..she does pickle ball ..eating right..low carb..has two little dogs...house dogs..daisy and lilly..riding in a golf cart☺☺☺ and other things..I embordordery.☺ There are activities in the complex..they live in a manufactured home..3 bedrooms..2 bathrooms and an en closed porch.☺
What a interesting topic ,i live in Shawnigan lake about 30 miles out of victoria b.c. but my heart is in the city i love the busyness and growth i see there ,my husband is from a small town in saskatchewan so we had to move out of town and the lack of a desire to grow was really frusterating sometimes there were no bus routes ,no streetlights, small grocery store and no real shopping variety, but it did grow eventually and its o.k. now but i go victoria often,Maybe we will move back one day.
