Dirty work by intelligence agancies are no crimes. They are a hard necessity. It's often heartbreaking work, but it has to be done by the right folks, for the greater better.
Interesting video. When you consider how much surveillance we have, so many criminals walk unhindered on London Streets. and police not able to catch them.
She made erroneous judgements about a case regarding Palestinians, here is what I found : Crown prosecutors said evidence linking the 2 convicted Palestinians to the cars that carried the explosives was “overwhelming”. Both Botmeh and Alami admitted having had possession of five pounds of explosives which were used to make the bombs. Alami said she had had three hand guns and the explosives and guns were found in a lock-up she rented. But the pair denied they had intended to use the materials for explosions in Britain.

Annie saying at the end that whistleblowing cost her everything but she feels nothing has truly changed, and may even be worse than before, is a genuinely haunting statement. "If you want a picture of the future, imagine a boot stamping on a human face- for ever."
It's true things have gotten worse our whistleblowing has gotten ppl only poisoned, disability, loss of life loss of everything And the world has become worse. 90% whistleblowers are dead.
This is super interesting and Annie displays a huge amount of bravery not only then but also now to talk about this. Especially admitting that it hasn’t necessarily changed much, but at the very least she can live with herself knowing she tried to make a change to the system that’s in place 👍
Silly thing to do. Mistrust and paranoia is best created by resigning and blowing a loudly traceable whistle. University recruiting always ends that way. EGOCENTRICALLY. In 1970 we already had more technical equipment than she knew. Oh well. She has her tale to tell.
To sacrifice your career and normal life for the sake of your beliefs, "doing the right thing", must have taken a lot of courage and a very strong conviction. I admire you and David for that. I hope things are better for you now!

@@mayankexodus It absolutely would be heartbreaking. Snowden was lucky, Putin has granted him refuge in Russia. Personally I think Putin is one of the finest diplomats the world has ever seen. He is not even remotely like the monster Western media makes out that he is. I am not sure about this Annie Machon character. She seems like an attention seeker to me.
I saw Annie give a talk at a conference for cannabis reform in Bristol back in 2013. She was facinating to listen to. I remember a point she made about how the war on drugs is directly funding terrorism, and how the government are completely aware of this. 'Deliberately unjoined thinking'.
It is strange, isn't it? It's not hard to work out that making sure people can only get drugs from criminals means that drug use funds terrorism. Then there are all of the social, health and tax benefits of taking a public health perspective when it comes to drugs, rather than crime perspective. It seems the only thing keeping us from decriminalising or even legalising drugs (and therefore achieving all of the related benefits) is people's irrational fears and unwillingness to be open.
The same people who are waging a war against drugs are also the same people benefiting from terrorism, fear is the currency that rules the world. If everyone knew this they would know how corrupt and evil the basterds are that control governments of the west
@@fab-ian they want terrorists and criminals in order to justify their draconian laws and powers and restrictions of freedom etc, which they use to control us.
That are not exactly the most important qualities needed to become an effective field agent for an intelligence agency I'm afraid. She should have become newsreader, a radio reporter or indeed, a diplomat, fine with me. But not a field agent. That's not her mistake, that underlines how unprofessional the recruitment of field agents still was in those days, even after Philby & Co. Not sure about how that is today. If it is still as unprofessional, it's no wonder the Russians and Chinese remain the real spy masters.
@@ddoherty5956 Beauty, as defined by Cambridge Dictionary : "an attractive quality that gives pleasure to those who experience it or think about it, or a person who has this attractive quality:" Attractive qualities: kind, gentle, strong, resilient, caring, assertive, hard-working, reliable, honest, practical, responsible, loyal, mature, creative, consistent, appreciative, capable, quick, sensitive, perceptive, patient, thoughtful, fit, trustworthy, shows initiative, motivated, versatile, intelligence. I feel for Annie. Why is it that good people with a moral compass who bravely seek to speak the truth in order to keep the masses informed, aware and able to be protected are the very ones who are then hunted, harrassed, stalked, bullied and targeted from the top, to the point of losing everything you have. I'm out of money, through no fault of my own and will now lose my house. I've had a "series of unfortunate events" as the film of the same title portrays. So many awful things, intentional underhand things have been thrust not just at me but at my family over the years. All for being honest! Something is truly wrong when innocent people are targeted by excuses for people who have access to your life, when they are not fit to! Stay safe Annie. Thank you for the insight. God bless you and your family 👍
I remember the Bishopsgate bombing. I was sitting in my living room in Archway, North London, when I felt the shock-wave from the blast shake the window!
That kind of mass surveillance is impossible on a practical level. Even if you can track every keystroke, every syllable, it is not possible to analyse that volume of data in any way at all. Intelligence is about knowing what data to gather.
This is why, despite all the fascination around secret agencies, and despite my own personal qualifications, I could never work in such an environment. I remember low level intelligence jobs recruiters coming to the campus and making it all appear fantastic, but I ran away from them at full speed. The injustices would make my blood boil and I would surely crash.
Me too - I had a job ideal for spying on a certain culture but I couldn’t do that given my own ancestry and the British establishment have never been held in high esteem 😮

a question that always pops in my mind whenever I watch a interview like this, how do these people protect themselves/get rid of these people hunting for them and live to talk about it?

thanks for following the truth! Without people like you these state organizations would be a lot worse and we a lot further towards a police state. Even if it maybe seems like not much has changed, in the long run it is so important to get truths out again and again. So that the bigger mass can see what is really going on and can eventually stop this abuse of power and money. I‘m really thankful for your brave work!
@@bfc3057 when Shayler signed up with the MI5, I doubted that he was provided an independent legal advise. If they joined the government agency when they were young, they might not fully understand the liabilities awaited. They thought they served for the purpose of the Public interest. It turned out it was not the public interest but the government interest at the time. Shayler was hunted down by the provision of public interest. We all know as of today, these two can be divorced, i.e., the public interest (the voter's interest) and the government. Both of them served for the government, not necessary for the public interest. when Shayler was convicted for disclosure of confidential information for the reasons of a draconian contract he signed without an independent legal advice at the first place. He should be pardoned after disciplined, giving if there was no actual damages to the public interest not the government. Overall, this example should discourage young, naive university students or graduates without working experience to join the government machinery. The machinery crushes private citizen as a cockroach. I still believe public interest and government interest are not necessarily the same thing.
As an avid watcher of The Behavior Panel (Body Language Experts for non-watchers), I thought that was very interesting that she did a ''cut'' move with her finger on her throat while saying the phrase ''a slide towards totalitarism'' at the end of the video, I think that speaks loudly of her feeling of dread about a democracy ending. Chilling.
The thrilling account of how one individual exposed government secrets and had to go on the run highlights the power of whistleblowers in holding those in power accountable. This kind of bravery should be featured on OTR, it is very relevant in the Philippines.
I have two video's on my channel of what happened to me 15 years ago after making a complaint at Immigration, where I worked and after applying to Mi5. My future was destroyed. I had been talking about how girls were being abused at the Home Office and how Immigration were corrupt. Mi5 , the IPT, Police , MP's all knew about this before I did the video's and they weren't of much help. I totally understand where she is coming from and in my experience, no one wants to know. I didn't want to know what I was told, but I think it's in the Public interest to know that you can be watched , manipulated and caused to be dangerous to yourself or others by the Home Office and Mi5. Had I died , the truth would not have come out.
Annie and her partner sacrificed a good chunk of their lives to try to do good, and it is quite honourable. I can't help wondering though if they had gone the anonymous route or become a mole for investigative papers and slowly leaked information whether it would have made a bigger impact, i.e. just been a lot more calculating. The interviewer, no offence to her, sounds bored, annoyed or outright rude in each interview. It's her tone. The quality of her questions also leaves a lot to be desired. I would kill for the opportunity to interview such interesting people.
If you are going to be a whistle blower, your story MUST somehow make it clear that what happened was a systemic failure, not a one-off slip-up. The establishment will always claim it was the latter and make it look like you caused a great deal of trouble over one small slip-up. It is extremely difficult to counter that narrative especially when you are the small guy and your opponents have all the power and all the connections.
Huge respect for Annie. She came from a privileged background and could’ve easily kept quiet about the situation to continue living a cushy life, but she cast it all aside, using her skills and knowledge for justice. Legend
We're only hearing her side of the story though. For example they've never proven the Bishopsgate bomb could have been stopped, they didn't for example name the people that supposedly MI5 would have been following, or what exactly was "bungled" for example whether it was the IRA smuggling the bomb in and they got lucky with a section of lights and managed to slip away down a road that wasn't covered or what exactly. Her fella also went completely insane and started raving about aliens and now thinks he's a woman 😂 not exactly the sort of person you should be trusting to have a reasonable discussion based on facts with.
Several years ago, I was about to join the Royal Marines, when I was approached by an individual dressed in a naval officers uniform, with no rank insignia, no medals etc. He wasn't navy though, he saluted in the 'palm outward' style used by the Army, Marines & Airforce not the ''Palm down' of the navy. He had Laurel leaves on his cap, which meant he was too senior an officer to be interviewing candidates. He chatted informally, mentioned a few things that let me know he knew exactly who I was... and then asked me about a friend (who was also in the process of joining the Marines) and if he'd shown any political leanings (I answered honestly - 'no') and 'if a place in the same troop could be guaranteed' would I be prepared to report back on him? I politely declined and ended any military career. I mentioned this to someone I trusted who was 'in the know', and they said he was certainly the same character that had approached him in the preceding weeks. The trusted confidante told me he was certainly intelligence and that if I'd have done it, I'd have been military intelligences 'bitch' for life. Or if I'd have continued with pursuing my military career after refusing, it probably would have stalled my career (if I'd have been allowed in) and I'd have found myself being refused all promotion and training courses.
So now I've just realised how UK Govt - and no doubt Keir Starmer - are so easy helping US govt out with Assange - we're becoming particularly bad with not just the intel whistleblowers but the press 14 years prison per charge of prison!!?. Chilling. But the heroic actions like her and David's need to be kept in mind.
I pray God gives you lots of beautiful days, and give you more grace to keep pushing, I’m David Greg originally from Spain but currently in Texas and you?
I once dated a girl who works for MI5. She wasn’t aloud to talk about many things. I’m not making a joke when I say it was refreshing not to have to talk about our jobs at home.
Saw many clips of her over the years (hard to find now, oddly enough). But perhaps still available are ones where she speaks of those behind 9/11 (David Shayler also spoke on this) and those who killed Diana (for her relationship and potential pregnancy with Dodi, and planned support for Palestine). Bless you all and props for interviewing her.
Ironically it's really the other way around. Think about it logically, a minor mistake in what was otherwise a successful assassination plot leads to the wrong car getting blown up, and some civilians dying. Not great, but let's not pretend assassinating world leaders is easy, even in Libya, they have protection, the fact it went ahead at all is impressive as the people who "walked in" could potentially have just taken the cash and run away... Now that isn't great but it isn't massively terrible either, you're implying the stuff we don't hear about is much worse, affecting many thousands across the UK every week levels of bad, BUT if a couple people getting killed in Libya was enough to cause these people to turn whistleblower then you really think NOBODY else in MI5 would for something many times worse? That doesn't stand to reason at all, everyone who works there is a human being, sure a disproportionately high number will be psychopaths but not all of them. When MI5 does something genuinely unequivocally "good", really well and stops a major terrorist attack, we naturally don't hear about it. They don't shout every success because it would make the next success less likely, the stuff we DON'T hear about is more likely fine.
imagine that, 14 years per charge for whistleblowing, it'd make sense if you were just leaking sensitive information vital to the countries security but when you're just blowing the whistle on underhanded things and criminal charges this seems preposterous
What I don’t get is how comes it’s so hard to convict rapists but whistleblowers get convicted so easily? I’m beginning to think society isn’t made for the everyday person….
@@Celinamars666 It's easier to convict because they had signed the Official Secrets Act, basically a statement/contract that you won't leak info, and that you know the consequences if you do beforehand. I'm not disagreeing with you though.

16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. 17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. 18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. 19 And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. 20 For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved. 21 But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God.
Mark 1.15
15 And saying, The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel.
2 Peter 3:9
The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.
Hebrews 11:6
6 But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.

She made erroneous judgements about a case regarding Palestinians, here is what I found :
Crown prosecutors said evidence linking the 2 convicted Palestinians to the cars that carried the explosives was “overwhelming”.
Both Botmeh and Alami admitted having had possession of five pounds of explosives which were used to make the bombs. Alami said she had had three hand guns and the explosives and guns were found in a lock-up she rented. But the pair denied they had intended to use the materials for explosions in Britain.

I am not sure about this Annie Machon character. She seems like an attention seeker to me.
@@paulanderson7796 where is she lying?

I disagree. I think the interviewer came across as impartial and the tone was appropriate for the gravity of the topic

I admire your commitment to inform the public of evil works .

Incredible story and quite disturbing to know some of what goes on “behind the scenes!” I can’t imagine what we don’t know or aren’t privy to …
Tip of an iceberg for sure.
Imagine all the things they have stopped from happening while your at it
