This is an amazing interview. It's stories like these that help us understand the world, beyond ideologies and discourse of demagogues. Our assumptions are rarely correct. We are all influenced by our culture, surroundings, and experiences to the point that it's hard to keep track of our own biases. I appreciate channels like this that show us broadening perspectives. In the end, we realize that we are all people prone to making mistakes that lead to devastating consequences. We cannot judge someone based on just one metric; we are all characterized by incredibly complex sets of attributes, some of which are dark, sure, but the sum of which is always nuanced.

Exactly, what he said about people slipping into these things is so true, it could happen to anyone particularly in poorer countries. People shouldn't judge others based on the titles they give each other, in the end he found the light at the end of the tunnel and he should be judged based on his actions which had good intentions, also he got out before he had blood on his hands. Calling him an "angel" is a bit of a stretch since nobody is perfect but I get your message. His heart had pure intentions but he was strayed into what he believed was a "righteous path" but was actually sold a lie and he repented for his sins by helping out tremendously with his intelligence on Al-Qaeda.
You dear sir are part of history for sure. Going to Bosnia and defending civilians as many honorable soldiers do today in Ukraine, coming from different countries, is an act of a great honor and courage. You've always been a good guy, maybe lost the path, but eventually found it again.
Ephesians 6:12 "For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms."

This shit is what gives the Islamists new recruits, this is also why Iran is an islamic republic rather than a constitutional monarchy now. And more often than not, the very insurgents USA funded turn against them. I wouldn't blame it on most of the USA citizens though. Their acceptance of wars varies, they can basically only choose between two parties (at least, none other had a president in last 150 years) and they are often indoctrinated to see some country and its people as enemies, even though that "sworn enemy" is on the opposite side of the globe.

I wouldn't blame it on most of the USA citizens though.
