    Your one of the first vegans who I've heard tell why they are vegan without calling those who choose to eat meat the worst people on the planet. Thanks for your approach.

      Research has shown that diet accounts for 80% of your good health, or lack thereof. A lot of it depends on your gut biome, so there is no guarantee that a vegan diet will be optimal for any one person, but for Gerard it sounds like it is optimal.

    Comparing drugs to fast food is spot on. The feeling I get trying to quit drinking, quit smoking pot, and quit eating garbage is pretty much identical. Of course there are massive differences on a larger level, but superficially they should be thought of the same. This video really helped me see the larger picture, things I've thought about before, but I still always relapse and go back to living and feeling bad. It's insanely helpful hearing about an identical thought process and how you overcame it. I wish I could get out of the city and go back to living in nature like how I grew up, underrated how big of a help that is. City life create stress and therefore requires ways to cope, at least IMO.

    This is another reminder why I was a vegan since early 90's for so many years and rode and raced bicycles since 2000, and felt at the top of my health. Quit road cycling in 2014, then quit vegan in 2015 and went back into eating meat/dairy/fish... in 2017 picked up MTB, and now, trying to get back to my vegan lifestyle and back into road cycling!!! great video!!! so glad I watched it

    vegetarian for over 12 years, vegan for like 1.5 years, i had no idea how many of these steps we shared until you laid them out in front of me. sport-wise it was rock climbing and running, only recently picked up cycling. absolutely my favourite channel on the tube at the moment.

    Just watched this one today. I'm 26, and have lost about 50 pounds this year by falling back in love with the bike. I rode a lot in 2013, but always as a junk eater and casual rider. I've done about 2,000 miles in the last 6 months, and am starting to hit the plateau of time/exercise versus diet. Love the reinforcement of the idea that small changes turn into big lifestyle choices. I'm hoping to be in the middle of one that sticks this time. I can't go back to 270lbs.

    I was also turned full vegan from eating everything within 1 week, similar reason as you. I had a dog and my connection with him was so strong it connected me with all other animals. I started to imagine how the animals look like in slaughter houses. It's not like I didn't know about this before, it just been put aside from the mind because it was so uncomfortable to think about. After tons of research and studies about veganism, I knew this is the way I will live my life. It had came to the point like I had been awaken from long sleep. Thanks for sharing your story and hope to see more of your video!

      +Kevin Yeoh Awakening from a long sleep is spot on, I felt so much sorrow once I let my self take in what we as a world have been doing to animals. Its hard to let those feelings in, but only then can we start to make a conscious decision to change. Thanks for the view bro!

    Love your videos VC and fully support your decision to go vegan. What someone chooses to eat is a very intimate and personal journey. To push back a little I would like to mention that supplementation is very important to a vegan diet. Essential vitamins such as B12 can only be found in animal products. 86% of vegans are deficient in B12 which can lead to anemia and nerve damage. Also certain essential amino acids are not produced in plants. I do agree that being vegan is healthier than the diets of 95% of Americans today. Please just be sure to supplement properly in order to get all of the nutrition your body requires. And ethics aside, eating meat does not make someone unhealthy. It can be a very important part of a healthy diet for its protein and healthy fat content. Nothing but support for you VC and your channel though! Keep making great videos!

    Awesome! I also became a vegan because of the fitness level and recovery speed. When you talked about to be aware of food you just pointed out one thing that I believe is crucial. Nowadays people are loosing this awareness, some of them think the food just magically appears at their tables.

    Even as a professional butcher, and full keto cyclist, this was inspiring. An absolutely amazing transformation for the better. You are one of my main inspirations in this sport, and im so glad i happened upon this video in your archive. It may not be the path for everyone, but I i truly believe that most people should go vegetarian/vegan for their own health and longevity. I could not because of how my body processes fiber and vegetables/fruits. But i wish I could because I love salads, especially cabbage salads, and smoothies, and nut based protein. But my body cant process it properly. Anyways, i really enjoy your new videos, and id love to see more nutritional content based around low fiber, high fat/protein--lowcarb/sugar vegan dietary advice for mid ride refueling. I sure as hell cant take a pork chop with me on a ride and get some extra energy without losing too much weight otherwise. The uptake period is over an hour for meaty fatty goodness. Which is my inverse struggle. BMI of 15-16 and struggling to keep it on my bones while wanting to push over 300 watt ftp. Impossible. ANYWAYS, keep up the great work. You continue to inspire me with every upload, to keep pedaling harder and training smarter.

    bro i enjoy the truth in all of your videos, regarding losing weight from a fellow cyclist to another what i came to understand is that as long as u meet the macronutrient goals and u create a coloric deficit u ll lose weight meat has amino acids that help in recovery plus 25% is lost in tef but problem is most people eat much more than what they think they eat i used to do the same mistake but anw i ll agree on dairy products and on vegies and carbs but key is moderation and consistency it is as simple as that really, cheers and keep it up btw gz for your 5 w/kg ftp watched the video!

    I'm still omnivorous, but I strive to eat more fruits and vegetables. I strive to eat at least one meal/day vegetarian. My parents made sure we were exposed to fruits and veggies growing up. I hated broccoli, 'cause kids were supposed to, but when I did try it, I found I liked it. Like your videos and like your approach about presenting what works for you. No preaching but results. Also, I was stuck with for hours of commute just before I started cycling. That commute also came with lots of fast food and the mirror told me the same lies, but the photos are painful to see. Keep 'em coming.

    Great vid man. I too am a cycling/tri nut. Have been for years. Diet has always been my Achilles heal. My story is similar to yours. I'm about 4 years into my quest for the top of "Vegan Everest". Still eating a protein a day, some fast food, but cut almost all dairy out. I've tried it just going full out, and usually make it about a week for the pizza monsters takes over. Very inspired though

    • @TheVCAdventures
      @TheVCAdventures  9 років тому +2

      PhantomZO9 Dude, the pizza monsters are strong! I used to get a bacon, sausage, pepperoni , extra cheese pizza EVERY Saturday night and watch supercross live. It was like a tradition, but last year was my first time watching supercross without a pizza, totally felt like something was missing. So my wife made a vegan pizza, and after a few flops, we found a really nice recipe that fills that void.
      What Im saying is that giving up stuff is hard if you dont have a replacement. Find a replacement for the stuff you want to cut out, and will help. Stay strong and slay those monsters.

    I am both sides of the coin, I am plant-based after ending up in hospital with kidney stones after following a (what i though was healthy) meat/veg diet. I then had my eyes opened by documentaries such as #earthlings and became vegan. I now actively promote the vegan lifestyle for the animals, health and the planet. I'm also a cyclist of 30 years that saw a substantial performance shift (namely lactic acid tolerance, endurance, recovery, sleep).

    My current cycling strategy is to have bacon at one end of the ride and me and the bike at the other.
    I ride towards the bacon - LOL! That guarantees I'll get there. when I reach the bacon, I've already burned 1200 calories (its hilly round here), so I eat without guilt - then ride home! I might try some veggies - and see what happens!

    Know what you eat cuz you are what you eat our relationship with food ought to be a priority love how you said that about your family learned to know know know what they're eating I'm not vegan but I been working at restaurants for 15 yrs now work at a chinese restaurant seeing how they eat way better than us Americans I just crush a lotta fruits and veggies nuts fish things but KNOWING what why this food is what it is before you smash it back is important like you said for those who want to live long and be fit dude I've also know the difference as well you can feel the difference... from eating poorly to eating good...look at it this way Like our bodies do talk.... listen to your body when your thirsty drink when your hungry eat but to season in and season to understand our own body in terms of when to consume, exert, recover, extended rest, etc etc takes a lifetime to master everyone's body is different....this nation especially but what the world system since business is based on making the buck quantity quantity quantity regardless of quality regardless of necessity just ship it out there so we can make billions of dollars even the health industry doesn't understand what there doing trying to shove a routine and diet down every single person's throat yet with the nutrition as well as activity is different for everybody I know said a lot but dude I'm agreeing with how you said
    To summarize
    dude to me health is more precious than money I would rather be healthy with mediocre finances quiet life than rich and awesome life but have some sort of pills I need to pop or go see the doctor every month... dude America was strong once but fleshing out on these fast foods and restaurants is truly what is making other nations disrespect us seriously Europe too the amount of sugar both England and USA consume a day is just ridiculous ok I dont wanna rabbit trail n e way I'm out peace vegan cyclist! Keep riding!

    At least your honest. I'm a firm believer of an omnivour diet. I believe in the circle of life. I'm complete ok with taking the life of an animal for consumption because something has to die for me to live. I don't take pleasure from taking the life. It's hard but it died for a reason. Also, the vast majority of my diet (90%) is fruits and vegetables. We're living in a society of convenience and people are abusive with their diets. Way too many animal products are consumed.

    I know this video is about going vegan but.... Started with Jiu-jitsu for me too man. Just took up trail riding on a BMX bike the past few months. Finally made the jump and got a nice Trek XC bike. Probably get a road bike next season. Finding the right diet is rough especially because I live in Indiana and there's not a huge availability for affordable food that's healthy. I've always felt that diet is this most crucial thing for getting and staying fit but it's so hard to find a diet that works well.

    Dude a couple things. I love this channel, subscribing as soon as im done this comment.I'm kind of on the same path right now. I am not a vegan or vegetarian but every day I get closer to it. I see no reason to not be a vegan for the exact reason you said. health. oh and the cycling stuff is awesome too. I've been riding for 4 Years now and I'm just too competitive to not want to get better. keep it up bruh

    Hey Tyler, I’m a huge fan of your videos and your lifestyle. I’m wondering if psychedelics have played some sort of role in your life or your transformation. I’m a father and a cyclist, and coincidentally I am also 24 which you shared is the age you decided to be vegan. I’m interested in other plant medicines, too, and I think it would be interesting to hear about any experiences you had that may have nudged you towards a more compassionate lifestyle and oneness with other life on our planet. Thanks for sharing!

    I'm at the fiish, chicken, veggies, fruit and overall healthy food stage. I'm having a super hard time dropping fish as sushi is my absolute favorite. I don't think I sadly ever could. I think fish and chicken are healthy but I think farming them wrecks the environment. So I'm considering.

    Vegetarian here. this is a great story. I did some quite similar journey but not vegan yet. I understand the whole chicken thing, I love animals and after all there are not that different from us. I have seen chickens pilled up alive before a slaughterhouse then dead and it opened my eyes. Yet, eating eggs feel to me like a good balance where we feed chickens then have eggs in return. what make you decided to be vegan over vegetarian ?

    Thanks for sharing your story. Not a vegan here but try to eat healthy. I grew up eating whole foods and a balanced diet (everything under the food pyramid) (mexican heritage - radically different to a mexican taco shop ). I'll admit it is heavy on livestock.
    Any ways just had a question. Why does the vegan diet cut out animal by product? Just wondering if their was more to it. Nutritionally speaking at least there is are nutritional benefits. Also I was recently made aware of the environment impact it has but i also am aware that that its relevantly newer information than the vegan diet. So wondering if there was or if there is more to it than that.
    Btw like your vids and a subscriber

    • @TheVCAdventures
      @TheVCAdventures  9 років тому +1

      +Adam Garcia From what I have read, and how my body has reacted, animal product has more negative impact on your body than good. So like saying cocaine is good for you because it kills bacteria in your nose. yea, it has that going for it, but you wouldnt really say its healthy for you. It seems that our body's were built for living off plants, but in the case of survival, we can also derive nutrients from animals. But you used to have to chase down that animal with a fucking rock LOL
      So the amount of calories your had to burn to track, kill, skin, butcher, preserve, and digest was a good trade off. Plus there did not use to be factory farming, so hunting off the land was a symbiotic relationship between us and the earth. Most people now eat meat 3 times a day, and do no activity with their body. for me, it works. But I cant say it works for everyone. Thanks for sub bro!

    Converting to a vegan diet/lifestyle is pretty damn tough. I've tried it about 3-4 times within the past two years and I keep screwing up and I get dejected. The longest I've gone was a little less than two months. Maybe I'm just not meant to be a vegan. I hate it. My willpower is weak.

    • @TheVCAdventures
      @TheVCAdventures  8 років тому +1

      +Random Bike Trips I dont think it has to do with will power. You just need to make the choice on your own terms. Maybe start really small and let it build. The first time I ate a salad was at 22 years old, and then the change to vegan took almost another 6 years. Also, try just being plant based. If 80% of your diet is plants, you will be doing pretty dang good my friend.

    Hi, quick question. I am trying to be vegan, and right now i'm exercising 5 times a day. My dad was a pre diabetic at 40 and went 100% paleo. He says by going vegan or vegetarian with high carbs ill wreck my materialism. I'm well with in my bmi and im more of an ethical vegan but the health benefits are still an aspect. Are there any study's you could suggest to convince him that being vegan is better then paleo and wouldn't kill my matablism. He is also all about gut health and things like that.

    • @TheVCAdventures
      @TheVCAdventures  8 років тому

      +Liam Grennon Rhonda Patrick is a good source, she is not vegan but she is all science based and so its great info from an unbiased position. But just look at most if not all vegans, are they fat? Are they unhealthy? Its pretty hard to deny the proof that a primarily plant based diet is a great way to go.
      People will say all sorts of things but the fact is the people who talk down about a plant diet have never been on a plant diet. The people on a vegan diet dont come out and say it wreaked their life, you know? But no one wants to give up meat, so they say whatever they can to reaffirm that they are in the right.

      I also bought a bike and I cycle to work rather than use car, it's 10 miles a day - not much but it's something. And this level of physical activity gives me much better resistance to flu and cold, and also gives me much more energy to work and be with my two small kids.
      Living 20-30 years longer and free from diabetes, strokes, cancer and heart attacks is a big deal, it's worth changing one's diet dramatically. Especially considering the fact that you can cook wonderfully delicious foods without salt, with vinegars and natural spices.
