I love 06 so much, and Project 06 makes me love it even more. I really hope Sonic Team puts a similar amount of ambition and passion from 06 into the next Sonic game!

Sonic 06 may be one of the biggest tragedies in gaming. It had such huge ambition. It aimed to be the best Sonic game in the series. It was going to be Sonic’s Breath of the Wild. But instead, it ended up being one of the biggest failures in gaming and heavily dented Sonic’s reputation. Part of me, as a matter of fact a lot of me, really wants to see P-06 officially be ported go modern consoles like the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, Nintendo Switch and Steam. That may be highly unlikely as the I recall the creator of the port saying that he doesn’t want to see the port to consoles and I don’t think Sonic Team wants to acknowledge the game exists. However, we live a world where Zack Snyder was able to complete his cut of Justice League and it generally received positive feedback from fans and critics. So I say anything is possible.
I've played through most of the game and I've only encountered one glitch so overall I had a great time with the game. The camera could be less jittery though but even Sonic heroes has a very bad camera and that's still one of my favorite games
That's exactly how I play it. And to this day I still question how I ever became a fan since this was my introduction to the series and made me rage quit as a child.
Imagine if Sega straight up contacted ChaosX, gave him a small team, and actually released an official Sonic 06 Remaster. Sonic the Hedgehog: Redemption. I really feel like that could restore a lot of the damage the original release did and make people realise how good the game's foundation was. It would probably sell well too.

I was 15 when this game came out and that trailer had me hyped up for the game, i never played Sonic 06 and wanted to say that i dodge a bullet there but since P-06 is almost done (i think) it's a perfect chance for me to experience of how the game was meant to be

Okay, this is really good, very nice video, but I really think there is a piece of the puzzle missing: the influence of 06 on SEGA themselves. After 06, they haven't even DARED to do anything big. The biggest, most heartfelt thing SEGA tried to do after it was Unleashed which despite its flaws, is a really good game. When it comes to story, the more heartfelt stories were at least tried in something like The Black Knight and that is it. After Colors, they completely forgot about 06 and anything it even touches. They've been trying to keep it safe for a good while, with Lost Worlds and Colors having their weird Saturday morning humor and Generations not even having a story at all, and it's all out of fear: fear that doing something with ambition will cause the next 06. The last time they tried to be "ambitious" was in Forces' plot; despite that, they held back in writing, characters, story execution and gameplay, which made this game be pretty mixed when it comes to opinions. The thing is: they meme and joke all around about 06, but it's a way to hide that fear. Think about it: why haven't we had anything near an Adventure style gameplay? Why haven't any characters beyond Sonic been portrayed well, either serving as background characters or parodies of themselves? (Tbh even Sonic feels badly portrayed at times) Why haven't we got a story that builds on the lore, expands itself to be more grand and show this little Hedgehog's true power and ambition? 06 did it. 06 failed. "Therefore, doing this is bad."
That's really good then, I was editing with his editing style so it's good that it looks like one of his videos! It was a lot of fun and I really enjoy editing with other's people's styles of editing, it's a nice breath of fresh air!

I did enjoy this game. I have played this on the PS3 and it’s not that bad. And this game has a lot of things I like. The level design, the gems, the CGI cutscene and especially the music (level theme, the score in the cutscene and the theme of all the characters, especially the main theme of the game, His World). I wouldn’t mind if Sega remade this game. But if they do, there are some things I do want them to fix: 1. The speed of the characters 2. Fix the spin dash 3. Give Tails momentum and his tail spin attack 4. Give Rouge martial arts 5. Make Silver faster than he should have been. 6. Give Omega combat abilities like in Sonic Heroes 7. Fix that stupid ball puzzle in the story. 8. And also fix some of the issues in the story. Other than that, I still enjoy the game and it’s not as bad as people make it out to be.
I feel like people don’t really LIKE this game more its that they’ve come to a mutual acceptance, now they look back and at the very least can praise the ambition and the level design
Sonic 06 was the first sonic game I ever played, even though my favourite has always been unleashed, this game was peak gaming for me at age 6, the scale of the game itself was enough to keep me engaged and finish the story, I never understood why people would call it unplayable if I beat it being a kid

@@dafirelive Comparing 3DS games to gameboy games back in the late 90s is not fair. Games nowadays need to be more polished. All I did was compare 06 and the old pokemon games. Its not fair to compare the old pokemon games released in the late 90s to a 3D game that was released for the xbox 360 and PS3.
Oh and I played the PS3 version and able to beat it easily, I think I've redone the playthrough twice even when I lost data and I'll do it again but the problem is the last copies of 06 in my GameStop was gone coming back months later and nowhere else has it so I will have to go online, not now but sometime.
At least SEGA of Japan genuinely prizes Sonic 06. They put a really interesting reference to 06 into TSR JP dub, to which Japanese fans gave rounds of applause.

i love 06 its my favorite sonic game and 2nd favorite game of all time. sometimes i feel like that if this game was a success the sonic series wouldn't be in the current state it is right now. if 06 was a success sega wouldn't be so afraid to have huge stories or playable characters, or make a fully 3d game. but sadly 06 failed and sega is now to afraid to let sonic evolve so they relying on nostalgia and memes
Admittedly I was one of those who blindly hated on the game without even playing it, but come 2014 I would get a second hand PS3 from my dad's work friend and with it a copy of this game. I sat down, played it, then replayed it for a commentary with a friend. And while I don't consider it a good game, there are aspects I liked. The CGI cutscenes were very nice to look at, the story was entertainingly stupid, the music was fantastic, and I dug how open some of the levels could be. Of course its flaws far outweigh the positives, but when I go back to it from time to time I have a decent time.
Instead of just humans (or realistic humans), Sonic Team could've gone with anthros (look at Fartces) WITH some humans in the setting. I'm still having a weird stroke looking at humans with few animal freakshows like Sonic habitating in the same world. Imagine Elise being an anthro instead of a human. Sure that won't save her character, but at least it'll look less awkward...
Shame Sega or Sonic Team won't see this video. I love 06 and hate it too. People bash it, but as you said it did do a lot of good things. I really wish Sega will continue this style of gameplay. The music was A1 and the story was pretty good minus Sonic's. I really need to buy a gaming PC and try project 06.

Sonic 06 isn't a reboot. The title just comes from it being made to be the definitive Sonic experience for the next generation. Also, how do you explain the characters knowing each other and acting like this has always been happening?
06 is one of those Sonic games that I secretly love, but have a lot of frustrations with. Also I wouldn't consider it as one of my Top 10 Worst Sonic games and I definitely wouldn't consider it one of the worst games ever made! So you know what, I say remake the game for current gen consoles, fix the glitches, the bugs, some bits of the story, the gross out human designs, and make it into the game it was meant to be! And for a little joke, delay the game by a day or something!

I love Sonic 06 despite it's flaws amazing level design and the story I personally love and the freaking music is fantastic it does make me sad to know this game could of been even than it ended up if just got delayed an entire year or so, but if you or anyone asked me to choose to play this or Sonic forces I'll gladly choose Sonic 06 over that horrible game that spit in our faces with Tails straight up nuked Sonic just as annoying as ever silver was ok but Shadow I feel bad for he nothing more than a edge lord in recent games. The entire 2010 Sonic era felt like attempted (and unsuccessful) course correction for Sonic 06. I think it would be a very good call for Sega to partner with the Project 06 team and remaster it into something great-including releasing it on platforms like the Switch. They can also easily edit out the kiss and leave the Elise/Sonic relationship as a deep friendship rather than a romance.
Sonic and Elise don't have a relationship, she kissed to ignite the Positive Chaos Energy which is formed from strong thoughts and emotions so trigger Super Sonic who's made of that energy and if they have a relationship, why did Sonic leave Solenna after leaving that gust of wind to remind Elise of him? And if they have a relationship, why doesn't Sonic say he loves her? He literally had her blow Solaris as a flame out when she doesnt want to lose Sonic as her memories with him will be wiped and go back to her miserable life, he didn't say "Okay don't blow out Solaris, let's not bring back the world and stay together." because Solaris brought them to a small area he forged in time-space to learn of him, everyone was still dead.
I really am happy that people are starting to think more positively about 06. When I bought the game on New Year’s Eve of 2019, I really enjoyed the gameplay and story, even if they are slightly flawed. But I can accept the flaws that this game has and I can enjoy the game for what it is and what it was trying to do. It might not be the best Sonic game ever made, but it’s not even close to being the worst either. And it’s just so unacceptable to me that people think of 06 as one of the worst games ever made....they’re just wrong.
To be completely honest I always liked sonic 06. Back in the day, nobody took me seriously. If I said I liked sonic 06 people would laugh or think I was trolling. But now there’s actually people coming out admitting they liked the game. It makes me feel less crazy.

Welcome to the series! I would say most people find the glitches frustrating because it causes the game to be a lot more difficult than it should be. Although many fans have found enjoyment from it so I would say to check it out regardless to form your own opinion.

Say what you will about 06 but it had a tone and it stuck to it, unlike Forces with the whole "Tails has just lost it," suggesting he could have gone mad with grief over the death of Sonic, only for him appear later no worse for wear. Or "Eggman has been torturing Sonic for months," and what sort of impact with that on Sonic, how will his mental state be when his friends come to save this battered tortured hedh-and he's kicking back cracking joke, looking no for wear... Granted Tails losing it, or Sonic being tortured were never in the original Japanese script but I really do think they were trying to drum up drama for drama's sake. What's the put of suggesting a tone if you're not actually going to commit to it? [Merlina, now transformed as the Dark Queen, is sitting on a throne.] Dark Queen: I've been expecting you. Again the ideas were there...and I’m actually one of the few that wasn’t against Elise and Sonic...if it had been developed properly (concept art for the original Sonic had him with a human girlfriend...so this wouldn’t have been something out of left field). She just seemed too clingy with Sonic like Amy Rose (which is my main issue with Sonic and Amy’s relationship in the main series ...with Boom being the exception) instead of having more development. Sonic and Elise had 1 relax interaction in the entire game since most of the time she was getting kidnapped by Eggman and being saved by Sonic and the kiss would have been a more impactful if it wasn’t for fact that Sonic saves people on a daily basis. You would have put anyone on the dangers Elise was and Sonic would have helped regardless, with no romantic attachment what so ever on Sonic’s end. They needed to develop the relationship in a different way in order to make it feel like there would have been a mutual connection with the 2. My main issue with the game (since I was the unfortunate person with the PS3 version) was the glitches and endless loading screens. In terms of Silver and Shadow’s Stories i wouldn’t change anything...they were well put together.
I agree with you all the way matt. Although sonic 06 was glitchy and nearly ruined sonic's reputation, at least this game had ambition. The gameplay of 06 could've worked really well for future games. If 06 succeed, we might not have the boost in 3d games, but im completely fine with that. No hate for boost though
Although i get this game had some ambition mainly in the form of its Catchy music, both the story and gameplay are in need of some major fixing since its beyond a joke as to how bad it is. But then again, I think the most logical thing to do now is to move on from this failure and focus on making something newer and better, since I think too many ppl are needlessly going into too much depth with this junk, especially when considering it came out around a decade and a half ago now, since i find it dumb and repetitive that people are still going on about it. Then again with not much going for this franchise currently, I guess I can kinda see why ppl keep on bringing this 06 failure back into discussions. Although I feel like it should be casted out for good now so better things can come.

in all seriousnes, I havent played 06 and I will never forgive it for destorying sonics reputation but in all the 06 love vids I think I will enjoy it when I eventually do play it.

I did enjoy this game. I have played this on the PS3 and it’s not that bad. And this game has a lot of things I like. The level design, the gems, the CGI cutscene and especially the music (level theme, the score in the cutscene and the theme of all the characters, especially the main theme of the game, His World).
I wouldn’t mind if Sega remade this game. But if they do, there are some things I do want them to fix:
1. The speed of the characters
2. Fix the spin dash
3. Give Tails momentum and his tail spin attack
4. Give Rouge martial arts
5. Make Silver faster than he should have been.
6. Give Omega combat abilities like in Sonic Heroes
7. Fix that stupid ball puzzle in the story.
8. And also fix some of the issues in the story.
Other than that, I still enjoy the game and it’s not as bad as people make it out to be.
Sonic 06 and Shadow the Hedgehog are my two favorite hated Sonic games.
I feel like people don’t really LIKE this game more its that they’ve come to a mutual acceptance, now they look back and at the very least can praise the ambition and the level design

Pokemon wasn't broken, it was a bit buggy in the combat, definitely worth playing still, though buy FRLG or lGPE if you must.

@@dafirelive Comparing 3DS games to gameboy games back in the late 90s is not fair. Games nowadays need to be more polished. All I did was compare 06 and the old pokemon games. Its not fair to compare the old pokemon games released in the late 90s to a 3D game that was released for the xbox 360 and PS3.

Oh and I played the PS3 version and able to beat it easily, I think I've redone the playthrough twice even when I lost data and I'll do it again but the problem is the last copies of 06 in my GameStop was gone coming back months later and nowhere else has it so I will have to go online, not now but sometime.
Technically it was Sega whom ordered Sonic Team to fart out the game for the Holiday 2006 season (and also for the 15th Anniversary too).

sometimes i feel like that if this game was a success the sonic series wouldn't be in the current state it is right now. if 06 was a success sega wouldn't be so afraid to have huge stories or playable characters, or make a fully 3d game.

Admittedly I was one of those who blindly hated on the game without even playing it, but come 2014 I would get a second hand PS3 from my dad's work friend and with it a copy of this game. I sat down, played it, then replayed it for a commentary with a friend. And while I don't consider it a good game, there are aspects I liked. The CGI cutscenes were very nice to look at, the story was entertainingly stupid, the music was fantastic, and I dug how open some of the levels could be. Of course its flaws far outweigh the positives, but when I go back to it from time to time I have a decent time.
My biggest wish is Sonic 06 remastered

Instead of just humans (or realistic humans), Sonic Team could've gone with anthros (look at Fartces) WITH some humans in the setting. I'm still having a weird stroke looking at humans with few animal freakshows like Sonic habitating in the same world.
Imagine Elise being an anthro instead of a human. Sure that won't save her character, but at least it'll look less awkward...

Sonic 06 isn't a reboot. The title just comes from it being made to be the definitive Sonic experience for the next generation. Also, how do you explain the characters knowing each other and acting like this has always been happening?
06 is one of those Sonic games that I secretly love, but have a lot of frustrations with.
Also I wouldn't consider it as one of my Top 10 Worst Sonic games and I definitely wouldn't consider it one of the worst games ever made!
So you know what, I say remake the game for current gen consoles, fix the glitches, the bugs, some bits of the story, the gross out human designs, and make it into the game it was meant to be! And for a little joke, delay the game by a day or something!

I love Sonic 06 despite it's flaws amazing level design and the story I personally love and the freaking music is fantastic it does make me sad to know this game could of been even than it ended up if just got delayed an entire year or so, but if you or anyone asked me to choose to play this or Sonic forces I'll gladly choose Sonic 06 over that horrible game that spit in our faces with Tails straight up nuked Sonic just as annoying as ever silver was ok but Shadow I feel bad for he nothing more than a edge lord in recent games. The entire 2010 Sonic era felt like attempted (and unsuccessful) course correction for Sonic 06. I think it would be a very good call for Sega to partner with the Project 06 team and remaster it into something great-including releasing it on platforms like the Switch. They can also easily edit out the kiss and leave the Elise/Sonic relationship as a deep friendship rather than a romance.
2010s was a attempt to make sonic games that's nothing like 06 but ended up stripping away alot of stuff that made sonic sonic
Sonic and Elise don't have a relationship, she kissed to ignite the Positive Chaos Energy which is formed from strong thoughts and emotions so trigger Super Sonic who's made of that energy and if they have a relationship, why did Sonic leave Solenna after leaving that gust of wind to remind Elise of him? And if they have a relationship, why doesn't Sonic say he loves her? He literally had her blow Solaris as a flame out when she doesnt want to lose Sonic as her memories with him will be wiped and go back to her miserable life, he didn't say "Okay don't blow out Solaris, let's not bring back the world and stay together." because Solaris brought them to a small area he forged in time-space to learn of him, everyone was still dead.

I really am happy that people are starting to think more positively about 06. When I bought the game on New Year’s Eve of 2019, I really enjoyed the gameplay and story, even if they are slightly flawed. But I can accept the flaws that this game has and I can enjoy the game for what it is and what it was trying to do. It might not be the best Sonic game ever made, but it’s not even close to being the worst either. And it’s just so unacceptable to me that people think of 06 as one of the worst games ever made....they’re just wrong.
To be completely honest I always liked sonic 06. Back in the day, nobody took me seriously. If I said I liked sonic 06 people would laugh or think I was trolling. But now there’s actually people coming out admitting they liked the game. It makes me feel less crazy.
I feel like we need a sonic 06 reboot, like we take everything that is wrong and fix that and maybe change the story to make a tiny bit better.

I would say most people find the glitches frustrating because it causes the game to be a lot more difficult than it should be. Although many fans have found enjoyment from it so I would say to check it out regardless to form your own opinion.

You forgot to talk about the music of Sonic 2006!
Say what you will about 06 but it had a tone and it stuck to it, unlike Forces with the whole "Tails has just lost it," suggesting he could have gone mad with grief over the death of Sonic, only for him appear later no worse for wear. Or "Eggman has been torturing Sonic for months," and what sort of impact with that on Sonic, how will his mental state be when his friends come to save this battered tortured hedh-and he's kicking back cracking joke, looking no for wear... Granted Tails losing it, or Sonic being tortured were never in the original Japanese script but I really do think they were trying to drum up drama for drama's sake. What's the put of suggesting a tone if you're not actually going to commit to it?

Again the ideas were there...and I’m actually one of the few that wasn’t against Elise and Sonic...if it had been developed properly (concept art for the original Sonic had him with a human girlfriend...so this wouldn’t have been something out of left field). She just seemed too clingy with Sonic like Amy Rose (which is my main issue with Sonic and Amy’s relationship in the main series ...with Boom being the exception) instead of having more development. Sonic and Elise had 1 relax interaction in the entire game since most of the time she was getting kidnapped by Eggman and being saved by Sonic and the kiss would have been a more impactful if it wasn’t for fact that Sonic saves people on a daily basis. You would have put anyone on the dangers Elise was and Sonic would have helped regardless, with no romantic attachment what so ever on Sonic’s end. They needed to develop the relationship in a different way in order to make it feel like there would have been a mutual connection with the 2.
My main issue with the game (since I was the unfortunate person with the PS3 version) was the glitches and endless loading screens.
In terms of Silver and Shadow’s Stories i wouldn’t change anything...they were well put together.
I agree with you all the way matt. Although sonic 06 was glitchy and nearly ruined sonic's reputation, at least this game had ambition. The gameplay of 06 could've worked really well for future games. If 06 succeed, we might not have the boost in 3d games, but im completely fine with that. No hate for boost though

Although i get this game had some ambition mainly in the form of its Catchy music, both the story and gameplay are in need of some major fixing since its beyond a joke as to how bad it is. But then again, I think the most logical thing to do now is to move on from this failure and focus on making something newer and better, since I think too many ppl are needlessly going into too much depth with this junk, especially when considering it came out around a decade and a half ago now, since i find it dumb and repetitive that people are still going on about it. Then again with not much going for this franchise currently, I guess I can kinda see why ppl keep on bringing this 06 failure back into discussions. Although I feel like it should be casted out for good now so better things can come.
