- Even after all of the audio gear I've reviewed, I still love me some budget Koss. And now Koss is out with a new line they call the Utility Series, three different portable headphones with replaceable cables (kind of) and 3.5mm, USB-C, and/or Lightning connector options. In this video, I'll unbox the three sets -- including KPH40, KEB90, and Porta Pro Utility -- for some first impressions.

Bekoss they need the extra monies make more KSC75s.
Koss does make good sounding budget headphones these newer ones improve upon their older ones a bit. Still might use a Yaki pad for those new Porta Pros
I was SHOCKED when I plugged my $14 porta pro (which DOESN'T have the cable thing btw) into my DAC powered LG G7 phone.

Hey man. Did you mod the cable on the porta pro drivers that you put into your retrospekt build? How did you do it? I love my porta pros, but I would love a new cable lol.
Yeah, I used a solder iron to replace the cable, pretty straight-forward but a UA-cam video search will do better to explain than my comment can.
If we can actually use 2.5 balanced cables with these, well, that´s a big deal. Not everyone is willing to do the mmcx mod and buying a modded KSC75/porta pro pair is quite expensive. What are those binaural microphones you´re using by the way?
IMO... balanced makes no difference for portable audio.

I have koss PRO DJ200 headphones and they are great
the flat cable is good for tangled-proof. it is a lot harder for the wire to tangled inside your pocket and probably need about 1 hour to un-tangled it.
Mayyyyyybe. Tangling cables not nearly a big enough issue for me to want a flat cable.

You can. They're exactly the same driver, dunno why you would.

Any update on the KEB90? are they worth their price? Any better silicone earbud that wire goes straight down that is a little cheaper than the KEB90?

It doesn't sound... bad. But at the price there are a lot I like better, and IMO this Utility cable is a big turnoff for me.

Could you tell me if you know there is a different between Yaxi foam pads and Koss replacement foam pads?
Are Yaxi pads really that good? Or, are Koss replacement foam pads no less than the Yaxi pads?

Yaxi pads are bigger around + a bit thicker. In my experience, they slightly reduce the bass, which can be a good thing or a bad thing depending on your preferences. I think the best thing about them is the color. If you don't want to change the bass, and don't care for the colors, the standard Koss pads are just as good.

That cable swap system is stupid, was it too hard for KOSS to put MMCX connectors on their products and also not have cables that look like they were bought from Dollar Tree?
I think Koss did this on purpose so they can sell really overpriced replacement cables.
Apparently they've had trouble keeping KPH40 in stock, so I guess it's popular? But yeah, I agree -- not a fan of this system, I've already soldered off the utility cables from the Porta Pro and KPH40.

Yeah, it does leak audio, and no, other foam pads won't change that.
