My favourite combo is KSC75 on PortaPro headband. This headband gives a bit more bass, making KSC75 a full range of sound without taking out anything out of high frequency details. IMO it makes PortaPro also more appealing, reducing mudiness in bass region. If you have both, just try this, it's easy to unhook the drivers.

The ksc 75 on a parts express headband with Yaxi pads! That extra bit of pressure improves the bass just enough and it's titanium coated driver gives it that extra clarity and instrument separation and the most even FR. Given some burn in time it mellows a bit. Definitely a preference and music library thing, but my favorite of these and better than the kph 40i too. With their great soundstage and imaging as well I think these are the best deal in audio. I use mine at some point everyday even though I have "better" more expensive gear, lol.

@@Skeeb23 Hi Ryan , I bought all 4 Koss headphones including the kph30i clear model. Your reviews nailed it. If I was to arrange all 5 with highest bass to lowest , here is my report. Portapro, kph40, kph30i , kph30i clear, and ksc75. The kph30i clear version sounded a bit bright as the pads have been removed behind the drivers.Also the normal kph30i sounded less muddy when paired with a Grado pads. But the kph30i clear versions when modded with Grado pads sounded too bright and did not like it. I am new to this magical world of sounds and like the ride. By the way have you tried Koss ktxpro1 . They are also titanium coated like 75s and may sound bright. I need 2 suggestions from you. 1. Any other good head phone suggestions like Koss within $100 range budget. 2 . Good DAC suggestion for Koss. I tried Fiio btr5 but did not like blue tooth version. Only USB mode sounds good. I prefer wired over Bluetooth. Appreciate any input.
It will never stop being funny when audiophiles talk about the "differences" between the KPH40 and PortaPros. They are the same headset, just different headband and cable, unless you buy the utility KPP then even the cable is the same. They have the same tuning. Any difference is either the headband or placebo. The KCS75's tho, while similar do have a different driver which makes the high end higher IIRC.

Not really a huge difference, TBH I have Both, but the Wife broke one of her 75s by dropping a weight on it, and then stole my 40s and put them in the Ear Hooks, so since I live in Serbia and could not find new 40s here I tried these and hate the comfort (GIANT head Life) but do like the Detailed WarmDark thing that they do. I feel like they are an On Ear version of the Timeless. And they scale just as well as the 40s - but that is no surprise since the drivers are shared.
@@Djimbe I can only compare them to the Koss KPH30i which I love. The drivers in the KTXpro1 are the same as the 75s, but not the 40s. One has titanium coating, which is more rigid, while the others do not. The problem is that the KTXpro1 with the titanium coated drivers just sounds lifeless, it loses all the magic. They claim it reduces distortion, but it just makes the sound feel even more distant, with a heavily crushed bass response and more treble. There was nothing particularly pleasant about the listening experience. The KPH30i does not have that problem, the sound is rich, intimate, and alive. I don't know how else to explain it. You get pulled into a unique audio experience that is just completely erased with the titanium coated drivers of the KTXpro1. I have much more high end headphones, and would never in a million years want to use the KTXpro1 over any of them, but the same is not true for the KPH30i, which I find myself grabbing immediately over them.
The standard version does not, however you can get a version with a USB plug that does include a mic. Or because it does have an interconnect system, I'm sure you could buy that in line mic cable separately too.

my only problem with this swap is that due to the KSC75 being a bit bulkier, it heavily limits the range of motion for comfort
In my opinion Koss Porta Pro are very good and comfortable headphones. There are no better at this price. I've been using them for two years.

Give the kph40 headband a bend in the middle. Makes a big difference to the comfort to lift pressure off the centre hotspot

I feel the 30i falls somewhere between the KPH40 and KSC75 tbh. I need to listen a bit more to it, but I enjoyed the listen I had with it so far.
