Death Letter Blues is a song written by mid-20th century bluesman Son House, who also wrote "Grinnin' In Your Face" at the end, which also happens to be Jack White's favorite song. The White Stripes were obviously huge blues fans Lol They split up in 2011 when Meg White (the drummer) continued to struggle with stage fright and anxiety, but Jack continues to work with his various bands (The Raconteurs, The Dead Weather), as well as working as a solo act.
it makes sense that this sounds like black gospel music...its actually a cover of the song 'Death Letter Blues' by a great delta blues artist 'Son House'. check out the original.
Try the grammy's 2004 version of this song. Maybe the best version ever and it knocks the crowd into next week. I think you will enjoy it so much more. They start with seven nation army and change half way through. One of my 10 top songs live of all time. somewhere around 8 or 9 on the list.
I can't think of a band that don't play instruments or ain't musicians. If here is anyone that is on a stage & not playing an instrument, it would not be considered a band. It could only be considered a few people standing on a stage doing nothing.
"Don't you mind people grinning in your face" is taken from an old blues artist Sun House. Check out the rock documentary "It might get loud" that features Jack White talking about the song.
Funny I never heard about this band until a month ago on a UA-cam reaction video been around since the Beatles so I am mostly into 60's and 70's Rock, after listening to their music I would put them into my top ten rock bands
Sup TNT...Tasha thanks for putting a smile on my face tonight. It’s getting crazy here in NY. Stay safe n keep the vids coming. Not a huge White Stripes guy but Jack White can shred.
You need to listen to Son House the originator of this song. Son House is Jack White's favorite singer. Son House was a legendary blues guitarist from Louisiana and about 15 miles aways from my hometown of Vicksburg MS. Son House is listening to this version and I am sure he is impressed by what he hears--a heavy metal blues version of his song. Whenever I listen to metal, rock, country, and blues---Son House contributed to all of it.
To me they didn't really break up because sometimes they still get back together as the White Stripes. Jack is playing with other musicians forming new bands and going on to play with others in different projects. He's basically like a man on the move developing a great backlog of a career for such a young man.
I was watching Son House singing it and noticed a link to the White Stripes performance and from there another link to you. Always you are enjoyable. But I suggest you follow me in reverse and listen to Son House.
Jesus is Lord! Believe in Him to be saved! We are all sinners in need of a savior. All have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God! We have all lied, stolen, blasphemed, lusted, fornicated or in some way shape or form broken God's law! There is good news though! We broke God's law, but Jesus payed our fine in his life's blood for us that we might be saved. All you have to do to be saved is humble yourself, admit you are a sinner and need God's mercy, and believe in Jesus that he died on the cross for you and rose again on the third day! For God so loved the world that He gave his only begotten son, that whosoever believeth on Him shall not perish but have everlasting life. John 3:16. I love you all and God bless you!
@@FavianTubeX Yes, it seems like he does play those two together live. Was what he done to that guitar even legal? I believe that guitar staggered away after that session, stuffing it's wet panties into its purse.
Dunno if you guys gives a shit but if you're bored like me atm then you can watch pretty much all of the latest series on InstaFlixxer. Been watching with my girlfriend these days :)
I never heard the song before! That was some heavy ass blues! 👍🏻🔥

check out the original by Son House
@@SEANMCAD The original is amazing. So incredibly far ahead of his time.
To this day I still find it amazing at how much sound this duet could put out as the The White Stripes.
the loudest gig i've ever been too by far!
2 pc extra crispy
One of the best live performances of all time. Hand down.

So many more people on UA-cam should react to this and more white stripes!

This an old school Son House song. Jack White is a huge old school blues fan

I'm not much of a white stripes fan either, but a lot of this reminded me of zeppelin. Didn't realize Jack could throw down the blues like that!
Insufferable Thrash Elitist yea he can flat out jam.

This is my favorite song by TWS (I like many WS songs) and possibly my favorite song ever is the Son House version. 😎😎😎😎
You should hear the BlackPool version. Best live recording of this.
Word !!

Son House tune....he was the man
As a married man, I love the provoking from Jack

🤣🤣🤣 that ending tho
The fact that they are all wearing White and Red is awesome because that's what the White Stripes usually wear in their performances
Aye and honestly not even close to the best version of this live. See: Blackpool

a'ight i wasn't going to comment but then
that last couple minutes had me laughing my ass off
Jack White is still a great Blues artist
You killin it fine ass !! ❤
"Somebody recorded this on a calculator." Oh the irony. :)
Request: Ball and Biscuit - Paris 2007

Lucifer is my name
Jack White still plays but Meg wanted to quit so the band is no longer.
Nay young nag.
What the hell the jam got cut off! Grrrrrrrrrrr!
I think they broke up (?)... I know Jack white has been active in his other band, the Raconteurs
He's a legend. White stripes are done. He tours with Raconteurs, Dead Weather & as Jack White
the white stripes broke up in 2010, jack still tours with other bands
If you only had a clue.
Blackpool lights version is better IMO
If you are going to do White Stripes why wouldn't you do Seven Nation Army?
Bruce Borneman because that’s not even one of their best songs
Seven nation army is like the pop hit from White Stripes that draws you into their better stuff
Shame you didn't pick the live in Blackpool video, it is fire. Recommend listening to it.
this one is still epic because of the grinnin in your face cover thrown in towards the end
