  • In this video we're listening to The White Stripes. We really Jack White's music, but we've only heard a couple of White Stripes songs. We figure it's time, especially after watching the documentary on John Peel's record box, which is on our Patreon channel (link below). Enjoy!

Jack White owns Third Man Records a record label & also retail outlet. The stores are in Detroit , London & Nashville. The label does cool reissues.

Theres some good stuff on UA-cam about Third Man. The hq is a pretty amazing place, record store, performance venue, and record plant all in one. Bands can do a live show there and have a record cut in real time of it. They do reissues of music that is difficult or impossible to find and sell some weird and wonderful things, like guitar pedals that are both cool and useful at reasonable prices. There's much to like about their attitude and ethos.

The first time I heard them was when they did SNL back in 2002 and I've been a fan ever since.
It used to be a thing where everyone said what a crappy drummer Meg was. She's not. She plays whatever the song needs and that's her job.

John Peel ... He had excellent 👌 taste ! The Fall were his favorite for many years. You could compare their version of Victoria to The Kinks original ! 👍

JP is a musical oracle to me but there were 2 acts he championed I just couldn’t get down with , one was Viv Stanshall who I thought sucked HARD and the other was The Fall , I couldn’t see what he liked about them , I say them but it was really Mark E Smith and others who he hadn’t fallen out with that week . Guy was a raging alcoholic and a massive tool most of the time . There David , I’ve got it off my best mate 😅

Thank you for checking this one out, you two! Great that you liked it, too! 😀👍
Maybe also try their song 'My Doorbell' some time! Which is probably my favourite song of theirs 😊

Great video again. I would recommend ‘Carolina Drama’ by The Raconteurs, another band Jack White was in. It’s not so much a murder ballad, more a culpable homicide ballad. Well worth a listen.

Enjoyed this song. Had judged them on something I had previously heard which I didn't like. Will now check out their other stuff.

From probably my favorite album of theirs "Elephant". Hey, anyone who names his label Third Man Records, and quotes lines from Citizen Kane in 'The Union Forever' is pretty OK with me, Thanks for the upload.

The director, Michel Gondry, worked with The White Stripes on a bunch of their videos, including this gem. (Check out The White Stripes LEGO video he directed, Fell In Love With A Girl). Gondry also directed the all-time CLASSIC film "ETERNAL SUNSHINE OF THE SPOTLESS MIND." Great stuff!

I saw these two at the big day out about twenty years ago they were really good but after about 35/45 minutes I'd had enough but still probably my second favourite two piece band from anywhere after THE MURDER CHORD who blow four/five piece bands off the stage

For another good documentary, have a look at, Under Great White Northern Lights. A film of The White Stripes Canadian tour in 2007. Its not a concert footage thing, there is concert footage in it. It's more about Jack discovering family roots...his family lived in Nova Scotia before moving to Detroit., meeting weird and wonderful people, including an interesting chat with tribal elders, and playing surprise gigs in ridiculous locations, bowling alleys, boats etc.
And Jack makes Meg cry by singing!

I admit I'd suggested this one mostly because of the great video clip 😅 Still a decent song too, though 😉
I love Gondry's work and his creativity, also in the White Stripes' 'Fell In Love With A Girl' LEGO clip, 'Let Forever Be' by the Chemical Brothers and the movie 'Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind'
      🤩👍

@@Sandy-dd4le - I had no idea what song/clip exactly you were referring to by just reading its title in your comment, but then it turned out to be one I'd seen oodles of times when it was released - but I'd never actually _watched_ it properly, because it's 'Kylie Pop' and not really my cuppa 😅 But I did _now_ , and it's a pretty cool concept, and there were moments in the clip where I was asking myself, "How?? 😯" 😄
And now I'm also thinking the person who commented that the drums and amp in this White Stripes video are multiplying through CGI effects rather than really being dozens of them may actually be right!

    • @Sandy-dd4le
      @Sandy-dd4le 2 місяці тому +2

@@mightyV444 yeah, as far as I know it's just repeated images overlaid, and not truckloads of gear.
There's a superb Gondry dvd/bluray compilation if you wanted more, with his incredible videos for Cibo Mato, Beck, several with Bjork. it's part of a series, there's another for Spike Jonze that has his Fatboy Slim videos etc, and another for Chris Cunningham and his insane videos for Aphex Twin (Windowlicker, Come To Daddy), Bjork (All Is Full Of Love), Madonna (Frozen) Leftfield(Afrika Shox), he's also responsible for the short film, Rubber Johnny, one of the more disturbing things you'll likely to ever see, and the Sony PlayStation, Mental Wealth commercial, which is less disturbing than Rubber Johnny, but still weird.
If Michel Gondry interests you then you probably need all three in the set!

@@Sandy-dd4le - Aww, too bad! Would've been cool if it really _had_ been tons of gear in this video! 😅 But I guess that was the whole idea to start with, to create a perfect illusion! 😄
And thank you for all those suggestions! 😀👍 I know some of Cunningham's and Jonze's work, too 🙂 I admit I prefer the latter, as it's less disturbing 😅
