I think the next season is season 8.5. They have done that before. So I think they are going to recreate the season 8 world in 1.17.2 keeping the main island. And ocean the same biomes but then update to 1.18.1 and we will see them all spread out completely wiped of their stuff but they are super far away from each other. Then they will slowly make their way back to the island only to find it in a destroyed state. Or season 9 could do that too. But here’s the clues that why I think it is a season 8.5: Most of the hermits did not label their videos as season 8 finale. So we can expect to see the island again. 2 the fall moon rocks didn’t damage the core builds( redstone devices. 3 if docm77 is involved with a season finale HE ALWAYS TITLE HIS VIDEO WITH THE WORD FINALE IN BOLD CAPS. This time he didn’t
@@eddog6666 -I think this is a plausible theory but due to the end of doc and rens episodes they may not do that thought I personally am unsatisfied by this season in general and no longer want to remember it so this may just be that part of me saying that
you could kind of tell it was ending early by how quick they finished their bases while not involving as many farms into them so they could focus on the bases looks
At the end of season 7 Mumbo promised a iron farm in the next season. Mumbo did not build one is season 8, because season 8 wasn’t really a season it was the change from 7 to the REAL 8
it felt like they ended season 7 to prepare for the cave update which then got delayed. this left them in an awkward spot as they could either wait until the cave update (part 2) got released or do a mini season.
this is my thought process as well. everybody expected the new caves and the new cliffs for 1.17, so that was a good time to start a new season, but the hermits, just like many other people, started a new world when the real caves and cliffs 1.18 update came out. they probably waited a a little while to see if the update didn't cause too many bugs before deciding to end season 8
Also explains why so many of them had either cave or cliff themed bases they wanted to build and some even ended up terraforming their own mountain range basically overnight. Looking at you Bdubs. If it's like last seasons we'll still have to wait a little bit for optifine to come out for a stable version of 1.18 because a lot of the hermits rely on it for optimization.
Which was apparently perfect for gem and pearl coz they had other commitments. I'm really interested if they plan to add new hermits because some of them are starting to get burnt out. Iskall, stress, and etho definitely need a break
My theory is that they were originally planning on updating the worldto 1.18, with the main island in tact. But as the season progressed they were so close together, and they would loose all kind of farms etc anyway that they decided it was just easier to go to a new season all together. But maybe xisuma will see ur video and explain it, seeing how active he always is on UA-cam.
I think parts of the shattered island like impulses factory might land in the new season, possibly riding on doc and Ren's ship too. Xisuma said he's delaying the world download.... possibly to work on spreading out the bases to give more room to each hermit?

Am I the only one that wants a season being in bedrock edition just you know literally everything being there before java like light blocks lava cauldrons and observers its still the only version with baby dolphins and squids
when grian ended the war with big eyes I had a feeling that the season was going to end soon. it’s just so unlike grian to accept defeat and not retaliate and it’s clear he wanted to get the war over with so he could finish his base quicker before the season ended.
I'd also say it was so short as it was a 'filler' season between Season 7 and the 1.18 update as the hermits got burnt out and bored at the end of S7 so this was just something to make more hermits play again.
Because they rush everything so much these days... Just look at the impossible scales of their builds in such a short periods of time. Seasons before were calm, peaceful and interresting, alot of happend during multiple episodes and now it feels like everything happens in one episode. I do not like it much.

It was just meant to serve as a fun little refreshing break from season 7 and a filler until Caves & Cliffs part 2. I'm quite positive season 9 will be a VERY long season, with how many new features there are to work with.

Even gave us some neat insight into the season like why it was short and who’s idea it was that the moon would crash into the server (Grian’s, and Doc helped a lot with the technical side of the entire thing)

I.E Iskall and etho they hardly did anything ya terraforming a mountain and a few farms but in grand scheme they really never did much of anything on that season and there vides reflected that aswell i ASSUME that everyone knew it was a short season and some decided to so a mini break till the next season which is cool i know iskall was super bummed about not finishing his omega god sized tree and prolly took alot out of him mentally to work so hard on something prolly around 1000+hrs into it to never see it finished
What was super confusing to me was that the big eyes didn't even get to finish their shopping district and welsknight never got close to finishing his base
Bdoubs and Etho could not do their horse race track (and two or three weeks ago bdubs even said, that he now has a fitting horse and the horse track will be finished soon, which makes me believe, that they decided very recently to end the season) and while grain called his base finished, it was not really, because the center piece his "girangotts bank" was not even really started. I am not watching a lot of hermits, but I feel like noone I watched has really finished their plans or even their running projects.
Boatem was really special for me personally, and a lot of other people watching. That whole complex had such a richly detailed landscape with such amazing builds and what could be considered the first official hermitcraft gigabase. I'm going to miss it dearly along with the octagon and big eyes, it just feels like there were so many parts to this season that really deserved to be developed slightly more.
Honestly, I'm inclined to believe that "resetting things outside the continent" _was_ legitimately their plan at the start, and at some point, they changed their minds and chose to have 1.18 be an entire new world and new season, so they came up with the Moon Big storyline to give a _reason_ for ending so early and to go out with a bang. ...On the other hand... the tie-in of the whole Hermatrix thing Doc and Ren were doing, which was a thing since the start of the season, and Moon Big was _directly_ linked into that... so I suppose you could argue either way, for both "it was always planned to be short" OR "they changed their minds mid season, and Doc and Ren wrote Moon Big into their Hermatrix plot", and both have decent evidence supporting them. (And, considering the ending of the Hermatrix, where you see the ACTUAL HERMITS - not armor stands, they're actually moving around - in the tubes at the end, it means the rest of the server had to have been on board for the Hermatrix plot...)
Doesn’t mean they were actual hermits. Easy to just use their skins on other accounts, the shots of Ren and Docs ship probably weren’t even done on the Hermitcraft server, they cut and pasted a bunch of stuff into the ship too.
Id wager this was all planned out except the moon was going to change the world to 1.18, but they changed their minds and just did a fresh start. Except impulse who said he saved the factory which tell me they are probably going to let him drop it in on the next world
I agree,it felt off. A lot of them still had plans and even builds that weren't completely finished before the while "moon too big" things happened. I also feel like the "moon is doing something" ending is a bit played out to end smp's.
@@semineutral I've watched other smp's where it has to deal with some kind of orbit shift that deals with the moon specifically. Blowing the moon up, the moon crashing into something, something crashing into the moon. Overall I felt like there could've been more. The ending was abrupt and I know that it's just because they need to update but the ending was lackluster. Some of the hermit were kind confused or caught by surprise imo.

My first as well…. But what an Amazing introduction to all it can be! I just wish we’d been able to have more of the Hermits whose seasons were disrupted, like Iskall and Stress… 🥺 Though it’s understandable they’d rather wait for the new world.
I think they decided very recently to end the season. If you look just 2 or 3 weeks back nothing seems like they would want to end the season soon. Many hermits still had a lot of plans and runnin projects were either finished very hastely or not at all. I think they've run into issues with updating the world, for example the resetting of chunks might have caused bugs or so.
@@thyrumx2901 Doc said on Twitter himself that this season was the start of deep lore in hermitcraft. Plot wise, the episodes may continue forward into the new season.

I think Season 8 was short to help the Hermits recharge some before updating to 1.18. Sure they did a lot but the main building aspect was either slow or very chill.

I mean, some hermits, like Mumbo, Scar, Impulse, Doc and Ren built A LOT for only half a year, but i totally see your point for hermits who scaled WAY back, like Tango, Bdubs, Keralis and Xisuma
It has happened before that they've ended a season pre-maturely because of world-generation changes. I'll bet that's what happened here. At the beginning of season, they were probably intending to move to a new area on the map like with a few previous seasons in anticipation of the "seamless" update of existing worlds but that "seamless" transition hasn't quite panned out, unfortunately, so a new world/new season just makes sense. I could have sworn there was another that only lasted 6-8 months but I guess i must just be thinking of a season change soon after a move or something.
you're probably thinking of the villager update - that was when the tower battle happened and all previous bases were left for a while, which is why you'd think it's a separate season
@@catiosis no, 1.18 transitions are not good at all especially for hermitcraft because of the y-level change that creates a big gap underground which is practically impossible to transition smoothly
I remember early in the season they were talking about continuing season 8 into the 1.18 release by updating the terrain outside of the spawn continent to 1.18 once it launched. But as the season progressed, I noticed more and more people building outside of the spawn continent and it made me wonder if they were still planning on resetting it all, which would have wiped the builds out there. I’m fine with a shorter season, I liked this server’s township structure, how most of them got into small groups and built in an area together, I hope that happens again in the new season, it provided a lot of opportunity for collaboration. However, I know that these concentrated areas with multiple players’ builds/farms had a tendency to cause significant lag, so I’m kind of doubting they’ll continue this settlement structure. I just wish they had more time to fill in the blank spots, Boatem for instance, had a lot of spots where they had planned on putting shops. And Grian NEVER BUILT THE BACK OF THE MOUNTAIN.
I have this bad habit of not finishing seasons. I usually watch 2/3 of a season and then stop (idk why). I started Watching HermitCraft during season 6 and I’ve watched seasons 5, 6, 7, and 8. The only season I’ve fully finished was season 6. So the fact that I never finished a season means that I didn’t see the moon stuff and all I saw was that the hermits weren’t uploading hermitcraft content and I got nervous that hermitcraft got cancelled. This videos helped a lot and I’m glad they didn’t get cancelled.
This was my first season watching, and it was tremendously fun, but I’d enjoy seeing more “normal” (Hermitcraft-style normal!😂) building and shenanigans, like Pearl & Keralis’ castle, the Swamp Lump, and the Cloe/Joe collab! 💖😅
@@lisa_wistfulone7957 if that's the case, you should watch season seven. Idc who you watch it from, but I recommend Grian. He makes it super entertaining, and HC is definitely something you could watch while doing something else.
Same, when I first heard of all the moon stuff I was kinda upset it was turning into all mods and lore like the dsmp, not that that style is bad, I just liked how humble hermitcraft was and how they never needed that sort of stuff to be an entertaining series. I loved how it was all about the shopping districts, building, having challenges amongst themselves and pranking each other with redstone and stuff. I would still watch it if it did turn into just mods and lore, but I wouldn’t enjoy it for the same reasons. I get why they done the moon thing though, it’s a good way to transition into a new world. I kinda disagree with what the video says tbh, but that’s just because they said the season is ‘over’. I personally think they will continue the season just in a newly generated world, i do agree that the hermits never set themselves big flashy goals, but that’s probably because they knew the season would be over. Probably why they put a lot of effort into their ‘starters’.
I think Doc said at the ending of his videos, that he wasn't the biggest fan of all the modding and retexturing too. So maybe it will actually turn back to how it was before and this season was more of an experiment.
S8 was mainly for entertainment packed with inside jokes, running gags, and lets say quite a substantial amount of lore; S7 was mainly ambitious projects (with a bit of lore); And there's S6 with all of em.
its really easy imo yes they were planning to just move outside the island when 1.18 came out, for some mountains etc. But after having actually seen the 1.18 update they saw that it wasnt 'only' mountains. The whole world generation and ALL biomes got affected and were 10 times better and more beautifull, so they just all wanted to play in the new biomes and to use their new creativity there, not just move outside the island and keep coming back to the old island for farms or convenience. I think you already could tell around a month ago, since a lot of builds were almost finished, and no new big ones got started. only builds that could be build within 1 episode.
Also to add, they probably didn't just change their minds and made the moon arc instead of resetting the chunks outside of the continent. The new generation of cliffs and caves would have probably messed up a lot of existing bases and builds. For example, in season 8, the boatem hole went all the way down to bedrock. If they updated to the new update, it would have messed up the boatem hole by adding caves to the bottom of the hole. And other things like cubs and boatems custom terrain would be messed up by the biome blending feature. It's was more due to technical issues causing the season to end early, not lack of mega bases. Edit: Sorry, I didn't know that nothing generated under already broken bedrock.
I partially agree because I don’t think they would’ve reset the chunks right next to the boundaries of the island, so cub’s biome and other people’s retraining would most likely not have been affected👍
they kinda hint at it throughout the season since their plans weren’t as ambitious as other seasons, and even the things they did throughout the season
I feel bad for people like etho. He always hates map resets, and in his last episode it sounded like he had no idea the moon meant the end of the season. He was setting things up for the future, and now… it’s gone,
It was a hilarious season. Boatem was the comedy hub. I'm always saying HermitCraft is my favorite TV show and they really made a TV show out of it this time. I suspect the problems of updating to 1.18 on the existing server was going to be a problem. Despite being short, they made a heck of a production.
actually it does not matter if the season is short or long the important thing here is that we enjoy it btw also season 8 was my first season of watching hermitcraft i liked the moon storyline and everything that the hermits do are so perfect
Been here with them since the middle of season 6. The end of each season made me tear up and sometimes cry, but the Hermits never - and i mean NEVER disappoint. Their episodes always brighten up my day and always will. Season 9 is gonna be longer and more fun, and i know it!
I think it was incredible that they did this whole moon story. Instead of saying "we cut the season short" they actually made us hyped for the end without us even knowing xD And seeing how close season ends and the new season beginning usually are, I don't think we'll have to wait long at all.
Tbh some of them burned out too as they started this season straight after S7 And I think it will knock some of them back as they had great plans and it’s been squashed
canonical explanation: watch docm's video, and you learn that season 8 was a simulation in the "Hermatrix", a preparation for the REAL season 8, which will be season 9. In other words, season 8 may also have been used to hype things up for season 9
And that's why Mumbo was peace, love and plants and focused on building, Grian did the opposite, EvilXisuma existed, hell existed, just weird stuff happened.
my personal theory to why it was so short: obviously this season didnt have a shopping district or anything, basically meaning that shops could go anywhere. because of this, there was no real central area for the season, therefore making most hermits stay in the area where their base was. this made the server feel very split up, with very few hermits properly interacting with each other (for example, throughout the series, grian only really interacted with other boatem people and occasionally octo, tango, and keralis). the hermits may have realised this wouldnt work very well so wanted to simply start over. this is just my theory so probably isnt right but its what i think might be the reason
I kinda agree with this. Even mumbo and iskall didnt get to hang around much. Since iskall joined Hermitcraft mumbo hass been doing a doing endbusting streams with him. This season that didnt happen because their bases were just too far apart. and they all split up into various different communities as well which made it hard for player interaction
I started watching hermitcraft in the start of s7,but S8 was my fav!The people grouping up!Botem(my fav),ortagon/gotem,the swamp,the big eye crew,etc. I hope they team up again!
Honestly, anyone who watched scar and was paying even a little attention, would know this was coming. Scar said he would finish the swaggon wagons and start his mega base. Instead, he started building new wagons, which made it obvious, that he doesnt want to waste time on a megabase that would last 2 weeks. Yea I know he was in hospital for some weeks, but that doesn't change the fact that he continued with wagons which he promised hes done with.
I always thought the season 8 was just a holdover until the full Caves and cliffs came out. The seasons seem to roughly follow the version releases and 1.18 was only six months after 1.17 (since it was split in two) hence the season was six months long. I imagine it ended right before Christmas so the hermits can take some holiday time off before starting up in the new year.
I always figured that the growing moon was for a transition into 1.18, but I never figured it'd be the end of the season! Looking forward to season 9!!

I think another large part of them cutting the season short is Scars health. He has been having a lot of issues and I would bet they all agreed to give him some time to recover properly.
This was my first season I watched Hermitcraft. You guys have been around for 8 years since I was 10, and I just stumbled across it this year for Seasom 8. What a great season. Can't wait for Season 9! :) ❤
I love this video. The season was so short, but it didn't feel short. So much was done and the whole moon development was entertaining, and the end of the season doesn't seem so bad. There was a lot of colab and joint bases (boatem) which was great for developing the beautiful area, but stifled each hermit individually. Can't wait for the next season!
Welp, I was partially right. The big moon was a Majora's Mask reference, but they didn't use the threat of a big moon crashing into the world to transition the world in a new update -- they were literally going to destroy S8 to go on with S9.
This season really bugged me on how short it was with all the unfinished stuff. The grand horse race never happened, the Big Eyes shopping district wasn't finished, and while I rarely watched his episodes, Grian's alley/base wasn't finished. There wasn't any cohesion with the giga-base, aside from making the blocks touch. Did Scar do anything with the mountain aside from building it? They led us to believe that for the update places outside the island could be removed/replaced and they'd continue. Suddenly, everyone finishes their base and the fan theory that the moon was going to _cause_ the caves & cliffs update. Instead it was, "meh, let's just restart." Something else that annoys me is subscribing to Hermits who stop playing. Or they take 2-4 months off and return pretending nothing happened, then go away again. Stress, Iskall, Welsknight, and VintageBeef were all ones I'd subscribed to that practically stopped doing anything. I had started watching Etho, but then he stopped. At least TFC has a reason why he's slow to upload, but he keeps going.
Sorry man but you really need to chill out. This isn’t a tv show. Everyone is human. If the hermits thought it was the best decision to start fresh then I’m all for it. There was plenty of unfinished stuff… like all seasons and many other series on UA-cam. There was so much accomplished in this season for most hermits. Stress has a lot of irl isssues going on and has kids, Etho has other series that are a lot of effort and fun too, Iskall got really pressured and ended up enjoying Vault hunters a lot more, Tfc actually had a ton of time to make vids and progress but had trouble getting motivated. Every single hermit is an adult with responsibilities that we don’t know about. They don’t HAVE to make videos for us. It’s basically a service. I do hope next season will be longer, but we’ll see because I personally loved this season.

I think that it started in a weird spot, at starting, they didn’t have info on the 1.18 update, and since they were all on one island, updating would mean that yea they would be on 1.18, but the whole island would stay in 1.17 and only new chunks would generate in 1.18...I think that they made the right call
I also almost exclusively watch Etho. And in my experience Etho is a really good touchstone for the quality and livelihood of a server. The more active he is, the more active the server and all the other creators are. He was very rarely on this server and really didn't do a whole lot this season. He obviously has other series, and a personal life, and things so it's not a guarantee. But even going back to the mindcrack days, and the meme of Etho and Bdubs working on a project always killing a season. Hermitcraft with such big names and Etho having never really "popped off" the way grian and mumbo and some of the others have, means it doesn't really rely on him to drive content or viewership. But he definitely has always felt like the canary in the coal mine for minecraft servers.
I'm a bit sad that joehills and zombiecleo haven't quite finished there base. And than there is the problem with iskall who i still doubt will join the new season cuz he was mostly absent from season 8 do to vault hunters
If this was always going to be a short season, Iskall may have intentionally not commited to much, given how busy he was. Once he became less busy, the season was nearly over, so I doubt he'd wanna start getting stuck in.

Here's my theory on why the moon crashed on to the Island. So you know in 1.18 the depth of the world wasnincreased by 64 blocks. But so was the height. The height of 1.18 increased the gravitation pull so the moon was too close to the hc 8 world. Therefor the gravity got the moon and slowly pulled it towards the earth. So because hc was slowly turning into 1.18 it accidentally had a side effect to the moon which is the reason it flew to the earth. And ended hc 8
Several of them are sounding burned out. Jevin, Keralis, even Xisuma. Wels and Stress have basically moved on. And then there's Iskall, victim to the negativity of the growing fan base. Getting Grian in season six was like signing a pact with the Devil: you got a lot more exposure, but also got the younger and more vicious Grian fan base. Those guys go around attacking the other Hermits in comments and streams. It was too much for Iskall, it may have been too much for Doc too, who hinted recently in a chat that he's going to take time away.
I remember when I was watching Grian's video he was kind of rushing to finish his base and I was like "Why? You got the whole season to finish it" and then I was like wait what it's over?
idk if anyone else is thinking this or maybe I'm just slightly oblivious, but I feel like the moon crashes in this season and in season 9, they're gonna use the same world seed but then have mountains far out beyond where they built bases (because the moon pushed the terrain outwards) and have a massive crater in the middle of the world of where the moon fell. The deep dark exists because the moon crashed and merged with the Earth.
The deep dark will be coming in the next update not this one. The world generation has also changed, so you can not generate the same world in 1.18. And thirdly I don't think they will start with an altered world, but stay with vanilla generation.
@@sebastiannitu6928 Yes, but at Dorian Termini said that they "use the same world seed". I understood that as generating a new world with the same seed. But that does not make a lot of sence when the world will look completely different. I am not talking about updating the old world.
It was obvious the season was ending. Hermitcraft used to have their server hosted by Cubedhost, and whilst I have no evidence, I believe it still was, however right at the same time as the moon growing big thing started, Cubedhost announced they are closing business, and servers had to be moved elsewhere. It kinda makes sense that it had to end. It ended pretty much 1 week before Cubedhost shut their doors. Also, notice no mention of the world download amongst the outros...
Hermitcraft isn't using Cubedhost anymore, hasn't been in a long time, Xisuma said once that they're using some other company they don't want to disclose. Also, the world download is coming, it just always takes some time
I personally loved season 8. I do wish it was a bit longer, another month or so. But in terms of quality, it is definitely one of, if not the best season yet. The use of mods and stories between all of the Hermits made it feel more personal. It was less, let's watch these people play Minecraft but let's tune in every week to see what happens next.
Also, with the wild update and the pushback of the warden, it would will be better to tie that into the 9th season and have a massive crazy exploration in the middle of the season, and not at the beginning and getting wrecked by a warden
while i hope they keep making the seasons long, i really feel like this was the right decision. it obviously wasn't the decision from the start, but i think it worked out perfectly with them keeping mostly to the main island. everyone ended up with smaller builds, and people were already finishing things up even before the decision because if they had continued the season everyone would have just been moving off the island anyway. which also would have resulted in everyone being further away from each other. we made a similar decision with my small server, where we were originally going to unload a bunch of unused chunks in order to have new terrain but it just didn't feel right with how massively this update changes the overworld.
Xisuma uploaded a video on his xisumasays channel, where he answers questions about hermitcraft season 8. He confirmed that it was never really their intention to reset chunks outside the continent. They knew going in that it was going to be a short season. But they didn't want to tell people that, otherwise they might not think it was worth watching if they knew it was ending by the end of the year. They did keep the resetting chunks idea in mind, in case Mojang's plans changed or something, but it was never the Hermit's intention to reset chunks.
I feel like the move away from mega bases was more to do with things like reducing lag (not everyone having every farm or a huge sorting system) and also bringing people closer together, like with boatem, since they were moving slightly more towards content driven by interactions between hermits (also being the first season with proximity chat) rather than the main focus being building and farms. Probably as well just that some creators were tired of creating mega bases. I think the update was just way too good with all the generation changes and they might have felt it would be worse for the hermitcraft series as a whole to not be playing entirely on the new update especially if everyone has already built their main bases in a pre update area. It makes me a bit sad to not see some builds from season 8 be completely finished but I think finishing early was ultimately the right choice because the new update is amazing and I can't wait to see what everyone will do for their new bases.
I really wish this season would have lasted longer. Scar never got his main base started (the city above the mountains he made), the Big Eye's shopping district just got finished, etc. However, it was best for them to start a whole new server for 1.18. We can only imagine what they will make with the new increased Y coordinates. I am certain someone will try to make a base that reaches from bedrock to the new build height.
I would like to say that in a livestream, Scar was asked a question in the chat. He answered with “No, season 8 has just started!” I’m not sure if this changes anything, but I’d like to point it out.
I think the video essay was spot on, but I also think one aspect that you could have explored was WHY so many builds were not mega. That is because on the island, hermits were so close to one another. This meant that the builds almost couldn’t be mega (with exceptions like wels and impulse, or the joint collaboration builds when they were made by multiple hermits like the swamp or btm area). I think the hermits knew ahead of time that this would be a smaller season due to 1.18, so they purposefully put themselves closer together, trading mega builds for more collaborations between the crew. Sure TFC did his own thing like he normally does, but everyone else had some great collaborations throughout the season. BTM, horsehead farms, big eye crew; these teams and more were great and carried the season in a way like never before (personally making it my favorite ever). Heck, even zedalph, a hermit that is a hilarious loner to some, did hermit collaborations with the experiments.

i dont think they ended it because of anything like "it getting dragged out" i think they have been planning this for a while so that there would be a nice transition to the new update, a more creative way of doing "well the new update is out so we are going to just wipe the world and start on S9" and i love that they made it into a story where the world got destroyed by the moon, and the production value of all the hermits were super amazing
part of me thinks if it weren't for 1.18 this season could've gone on a lot longer with a lot more interesting things happening. the whole singular island shtick was really fun, and if they showed more of the travel time between places i think this season could've been the most connected season yet
Iskall was streaming last night, he said he'd be back for S9 and the reason he was gone for the majority of S8 was because 1: He was ill and couldn't speak much, and 2: by the time he was OK again, the moon plot was already in full swing and he couldn't fit himself in properly.

In season 7 he had a bunch of IRL stuff that weighed very heavily on him, and while he didn't have as much motivation to grind on hermitcraft, streaming his modpack was a lot easier. After a month or two he started doing more on HC again, but then the season was about to end. And while S8 was going, he also had the second itteration of his modpack going. And since it was getting close to being done he put a lot of effort into that for the last months. If you're curious, he streams it quite often on his Twitch, and the mopack is called Vault Hunters. He has a server of it together with X33N, CaptainSparklez, HBomb94, Seapeekay, Petezahutt, and a bunch more. It's an extraordinarily expansive modpack based around procedurally generated dungeons called Vaults.
This is the first HC video i watched in about 5 month. I somehow fell out with all the "boatem" and storytelling stuff, it was not minecraft any more, it was a telenovela and minecraft was the medium. Anyway, hearing with how much passion you like HC, it shows that the Hermits made the right call in changing their content into a more story orientated way. I am so glad there are people who love the new HC way of playing the game!
It seems that season 8 was full of experimental stuff such as the closer/co-owned bases and the addition of storytelling elements. It's not hard to believe Season 9 do away with some of this stuff, integrate it to lesser extent or find ways to improve on it moving foward
I loved this season so much, and I think that it was a good idea to do a complete restart so all the hermits could start anew in the new terrain generation.
Season 8 feels like the most cinematic season has ever done. Between Xisuma, iJevin, Rem and Doc, as well as Welsknight, season 8 had many hermits doing cinematic cuts energy storylines for their episodes. I enjoyed the style and I enjoyed the episodes they made for season 8. But I do wish impulse, Stress and the others who didn't get the chance to finish the majority of their bases got that chance.
Ok...Hermitcraft Season 8 was planned to be cut short or extended. It has nothing to do with their bases, but it has everything to do with the 1.17 and 1.18 updates. 1.17 was already a wonky update, because so much was left open and unfinished all so they could easily mesh 1.18 in when it was done, HOWEVER that didn't mean it would be a clean mesh. 1.18 was already a debatable carry over when Xisuma started talking about new world generation. 1.18 has completely rewritten the world generation code and because of that, updating the server to ad these new things WOULD LITERALLY TEAR THE WORLD APART! Not like how the moon did heavens no. If they followed through with what they were planning and resetting the world outside the island there would be no mesh between where the old version and the new version would begin, meaning their would massive chunk errors surrounding the island that could lead you into the void. Everyone was making small bases at the start cause they didn't know if the mesh would happen, when it started getting closer they started making bigger plans, but then those plans were quickly tapered off. Most of the Hermits didn't even finish their bases, because in case ya'll didn't know...the community is pretty loud...and naggy. 1.17 was supposed to be 1.18 PERIOD but we got it split because people were impatient. If the Hermits continued to play in 1.17, not only would they receive complaints from the community, but they could also get bored because 1.17 was an incomplete update in general.
You can also add to that that some have already said that season 8 was supposed to be an experimental short season for them anyways. This is why they added some new things and tried out different things. So that if they ended up not liking what they're doing they wouldn't have to live with it for as long as a long season
I think this ain’t the end of season 8. I think they’ll all come back to 8 and the moon will have “caused” the new generation maybe destroyed everything but ehh. Or that’ll just be it an epic ending for an early close to hold us over a few months
In reality I think it helped fill in the gap to Part 2 of the Caves & Cliffs Update. This season was more of a "filler" to me due to them waiting for the C & C Update P2. It was started in the area where we knew that P2 was coming in the holidays not in the summer. Personally I think S8 and S9 will have a linked storyline as the moon storyline cannot just stop there. So, I do think there will be a lot of cross references etc from it. I just call S9 the second season of an already good running series - it's always left on a cliff hanger and will be resolved next season.
I liked season 8, but I'd say it was probably my least favorite season. It was fun, but I don't feel like we got the most fun out of it that we could have.
the plot in this season was straight fire! i also love the creation of boatem with the linked bases which was a super cool idea. i don't think the seasons over yet i think there will be some sort of part 2 to season 8 but in 1.18

I think the next season is season 8.5. They have done that before. So I think they are going to recreate the season 8 world in 1.17.2 keeping the main island. And ocean the same biomes but then update to 1.18.1 and we will see them all spread out completely wiped of their stuff but they are super far away from each other. Then they will slowly make their way back to the island only to find it in a destroyed state.
Or season 9 could do that too. But here’s the clues that why I think it is a season 8.5:
Most of the hermits did not label their videos as season 8 finale. So we can expect to see the island again.
2 the fall moon rocks didn’t damage the core builds( redstone devices.

it felt like they ended season 7 to prepare for the cave update which then got delayed. this left them in an awkward spot as they could either wait until the cave update (part 2) got released or do a mini season.
this is my thought process as well. everybody expected the new caves and the new cliffs for 1.17, so that was a good time to start a new season, but the hermits, just like many other people, started a new world when the real caves and cliffs 1.18 update came out. they probably waited a a little while to see if the update didn't cause too many bugs before deciding to end season 8
Also explains why so many of them had either cave or cliff themed bases they wanted to build and some even ended up terraforming their own mountain range basically overnight. Looking at you Bdubs.
If it's like last seasons we'll still have to wait a little bit for optifine to come out for a stable version of 1.18 because a lot of the hermits rely on it for optimization.

My theory is that they were originally planning on updating the worldto 1.18, with the main island in tact. But as the season progressed they were so close together, and they would loose all kind of farms etc anyway that they decided it was just easier to go to a new season all together. But maybe xisuma will see ur video and explain it, seeing how active he always is on UA-cam.

in a recent video, Xisuma seemed to suggest that Hermitcraft season 9 won't be happening for a long time, so I don't think that's it.

when grian ended the war with big eyes I had a feeling that the season was going to end soon. it’s just so unlike grian to accept defeat and not retaliate and it’s clear he wanted to get the war over with so he could finish his base quicker before the season ended.

Because they rush everything so much these days... Just look at the impossible scales of their builds in such a short periods of time. Seasons before were calm, peaceful and interresting, alot of happend during multiple episodes and now it feels like everything happens in one episode. I do not like it much.

I.E Iskall and etho they hardly did anything ya terraforming a mountain and a few farms but in grand scheme they really never did much of anything on that season and there vides reflected that aswell i ASSUME that everyone knew it was a short season and some decided to so a mini break till the next season which is cool i know iskall was super bummed about not finishing his omega god sized tree and prolly took alot out of him mentally to work so hard on something prolly around 1000+hrs into it to never see it finished

What was super confusing to me was that the big eyes didn't even get to finish their shopping district and welsknight never got close to finishing his base
Bdoubs and Etho could not do their horse race track (and two or three weeks ago bdubs even said, that he now has a fitting horse and the horse track will be finished soon, which makes me believe, that they decided very recently to end the season) and while grain called his base finished, it was not really, because the center piece his "girangotts bank" was not even really started. I am not watching a lot of hermits, but I feel like noone I watched has really finished their plans or even their running projects.

Boatem was really special for me personally, and a lot of other people watching. That whole complex had such a richly detailed landscape with such amazing builds and what could be considered the first official hermitcraft gigabase. I'm going to miss it dearly along with the octagon and big eyes, it just feels like there were so many parts to this season that really deserved to be developed slightly more.
Honestly, I'm inclined to believe that "resetting things outside the continent" _was_ legitimately their plan at the start, and at some point, they changed their minds and chose to have 1.18 be an entire new world and new season, so they came up with the Moon Big storyline to give a _reason_ for ending so early and to go out with a bang.
...On the other hand... the tie-in of the whole Hermatrix thing Doc and Ren were doing, which was a thing since the start of the season, and Moon Big was _directly_ linked into that... so I suppose you could argue either way, for both "it was always planned to be short" OR "they changed their minds mid season, and Doc and Ren wrote Moon Big into their Hermatrix plot", and both have decent evidence supporting them. (And, considering the ending of the Hermatrix, where you see the ACTUAL HERMITS - not armor stands, they're actually moving around - in the tubes at the end, it means the rest of the server had to have been on board for the Hermatrix plot...)
Doesn’t mean they were actual hermits. Easy to just use their skins on other accounts, the shots of Ren and Docs ship probably weren’t even done on the Hermitcraft server, they cut and pasted a bunch of stuff into the ship too.
Id wager this was all planned out except the moon was going to change the world to 1.18, but they changed their minds and just did a fresh start. Except impulse who said he saved the factory which tell me they are probably going to let him drop it in on the next world
I believe Grian hinted at the Hermatrix plotline in his last episode, he mentioned something about a simulation and the video got glitchy for a moment

@@semineutral I've watched other smp's where it has to deal with some kind of orbit shift that deals with the moon specifically. Blowing the moon up, the moon crashing into something, something crashing into the moon. Overall I felt like there could've been more. The ending was abrupt and I know that it's just because they need to update but the ending was lackluster. Some of the hermit were kind confused or caught by surprise imo.

I think they decided very recently to end the season. If you look just 2 or 3 weeks back nothing seems like they would want to end the season soon. Many hermits still had a lot of plans and runnin projects were either finished very hastely or not at all. I think they've run into issues with updating the world, for example the resetting of chunks might have caused bugs or so.
I think that's why they had the moon story, if the update would work they'd fix the moon, if not....well we know how that ended

I think Season 8 was short to help the Hermits recharge some before updating to 1.18. Sure they did a lot but the main building aspect was either slow or very chill.
Some Hermits had some fun collabs and shenanigans on the side, but I know what you mean - the pacing on bases was different.

It has happened before that they've ended a season pre-maturely because of world-generation changes. I'll bet that's what happened here. At the beginning of season, they were probably intending to move to a new area on the map like with a few previous seasons in anticipation of the "seamless" update of existing worlds but that "seamless" transition hasn't quite panned out, unfortunately, so a new world/new season just makes sense. I could have sworn there was another that only lasted 6-8 months but I guess i must just be thinking of a season change soon after a move or something.
you're probably thinking of the villager update - that was when the tower battle happened and all previous bases were left for a while, which is why you'd think it's a separate season
Nah every other season lasted almost twice as long (lowest was ~400 days) or much more (season 6 was longest at nearly 600 days)
1.18 world transitions are good actually, especially considering they would have world borders in the ocean

I remember early in the season they were talking about continuing season 8 into the 1.18 release by updating the terrain outside of the spawn continent to 1.18 once it launched. But as the season progressed, I noticed more and more people building outside of the spawn continent and it made me wonder if they were still planning on resetting it all, which would have wiped the builds out there. I’m fine with a shorter season, I liked this server’s township structure, how most of them got into small groups and built in an area together, I hope that happens again in the new season, it provided a lot of opportunity for collaboration. However, I know that these concentrated areas with multiple players’ builds/farms had a tendency to cause significant lag, so I’m kind of doubting they’ll continue this settlement structure.
I just wish they had more time to fill in the blank spots, Boatem for instance, had a lot of spots where they had planned on putting shops. And Grian NEVER BUILT THE BACK OF THE MOUNTAIN.

I have this bad habit of not finishing seasons. I usually watch 2/3 of a season and then stop (idk why). I started Watching HermitCraft during season 6 and I’ve watched seasons 5, 6, 7, and 8. The only season I’ve fully finished was season 6. So the fact that I never finished a season means that I didn’t see the moon stuff and all I saw was that the hermits weren’t uploading hermitcraft content and I got nervous that hermitcraft got cancelled. This videos helped a lot and I’m glad they didn’t get cancelled.
As good as season 8 was, I kinda hope things returns to normal for season 9
This was my first season watching, and it was tremendously fun, but I’d enjoy seeing more “normal” (Hermitcraft-style normal!😂) building and shenanigans, like Pearl & Keralis’ castle, the Swamp Lump, and the Cloe/Joe collab! 💖😅

Same, when I first heard of all the moon stuff I was kinda upset it was turning into all mods and lore like the dsmp, not that that style is bad, I just liked how humble hermitcraft was and how they never needed that sort of stuff to be an entertaining series. I loved how it was all about the shopping districts, building, having challenges amongst themselves and pranking each other with redstone and stuff. I would still watch it if it did turn into just mods and lore, but I wouldn’t enjoy it for the same reasons. I get why they done the moon thing though, it’s a good way to transition into a new world. I kinda disagree with what the video says tbh, but that’s just because they said the season is ‘over’. I personally think they will continue the season just in a newly generated world, i do agree that the hermits never set themselves big flashy goals, but that’s probably because they knew the season would be over. Probably why they put a lot of effort into their ‘starters’.
I think Doc said at the ending of his videos, that he wasn't the biggest fan of all the modding and retexturing too. So maybe it will actually turn back to how it was before and this season was more of an experiment.
S8 was mainly for entertainment packed with inside jokes, running gags, and lets say quite a substantial amount of lore;
S7 was mainly ambitious projects (with a bit of lore);
And there's S6 with all of em.

But after having actually seen the 1.18 update they saw that it wasnt 'only' mountains. The whole world generation and ALL biomes got affected and were 10 times better and more beautifull, so they just all wanted to play in the new biomes and to use their new creativity there, not just move outside the island and keep coming back to the old island for farms or convenience. I think you already could tell around a month ago, since a lot of builds were almost finished, and no new big ones got started. only builds that could be build within 1 episode.

Also to add, they probably didn't just change their minds and made the moon arc instead of resetting the chunks outside of the continent. The new generation of cliffs and caves would have probably messed up a lot of existing bases and builds. For example, in season 8, the boatem hole went all the way down to bedrock. If they updated to the new update, it would have messed up the boatem hole by adding caves to the bottom of the hole.
And other things like cubs and boatems custom terrain would be messed up by the biome blending feature. It's was more due to technical issues causing the season to end early, not lack of mega bases.

I partially agree because I don’t think they would’ve reset the chunks right next to the boundaries of the island, so cub’s biome and other people’s retraining would most likely not have been affected👍

Since there were no blocks at height 0, nothing would have generated, tho you have a point with the messing up of bases.

It was a hilarious season. Boatem was the comedy hub. I'm always saying HermitCraft is my favorite TV show and they really made a TV show out of it this time. I suspect the problems of updating to 1.18 on the existing server was going to be a problem. Despite being short, they made a heck of a production.
actually it does not matter if the season is short or long the important thing here is that we enjoy it btw also season 8 was my first season of watching hermitcraft i liked the moon storyline and everything that the hermits do are so perfect
Been here with them since the middle of season 6. The end of each season made me tear up and sometimes cry, but the Hermits never - and i mean NEVER disappoint. Their episodes always brighten up my day and always will. Season 9 is gonna be longer and more fun, and i know it!

I think it was incredible that they did this whole moon story. Instead of saying "we cut the season short" they actually made us hyped for the end without us even knowing xD And seeing how close season ends and the new season beginning usually are, I don't think we'll have to wait long at all.

And that's why Mumbo was peace, love and plants and focused on building, Grian did the opposite, EvilXisuma existed, hell existed, just weird stuff happened.
my personal theory to why it was so short:
obviously this season didnt have a shopping district or anything, basically meaning that shops could go anywhere. because of this, there was no real central area for the season, therefore making most hermits stay in the area where their base was. this made the server feel very split up, with very few hermits properly interacting with each other (for example, throughout the series, grian only really interacted with other boatem people and occasionally octo, tango, and keralis). the hermits may have realised this wouldnt work very well so wanted to simply start over.
this is just my theory so probably isnt right but its what i think might be the reason
I kinda agree with this. Even mumbo and iskall didnt get to hang around much. Since iskall joined Hermitcraft mumbo hass been doing a doing endbusting streams with him. This season that didnt happen because their bases were just too far apart. and they all split up into various different communities as well which made it hard for player interaction
I started watching hermitcraft in the start of s7,but S8 was my fav!The people grouping up!Botem(my fav),ortagon/gotem,the swamp,the big eye crew,etc.

Honestly, anyone who watched scar and was paying even a little attention, would know this was coming.
Scar said he would finish the swaggon wagons and start his mega base. Instead, he started building new wagons, which made it obvious, that he doesnt want to waste time on a megabase that would last 2 weeks. Yea I know he was in hospital for some weeks, but that doesn't change the fact that he continued with wagons which he promised hes done with.
I always thought the season 8 was just a holdover until the full Caves and cliffs came out. The seasons seem to roughly follow the version releases and 1.18 was only six months after 1.17 (since it was split in two) hence the season was six months long.
I imagine it ended right before Christmas so the hermits can take some holiday time off before starting up in the new year.
I always figured that the growing moon was for a transition into 1.18, but I never figured it'd be the end of the season! Looking forward to season 9!!

I love this video. The season was so short, but it didn't feel short. So much was done and the whole moon development was entertaining, and the end of the season doesn't seem so bad. There was a lot of colab and joint bases (boatem) which was great for developing the beautiful area, but stifled each hermit individually. Can't wait for the next season!
Welp, I was partially right. The big moon was a Majora's Mask reference, but they didn't use the threat of a big moon crashing into the world to transition the world in a new update -- they were literally going to destroy S8 to go on with S9.
What really gets me is that they all knew and it makes sense why hermits tried new things and some posted less this season.
Probably had 1.18 in mind ever since they started, cuz smol island isolated not humongous projects
This season really bugged me on how short it was with all the unfinished stuff. The grand horse race never happened, the Big Eyes shopping district wasn't finished, and while I rarely watched his episodes, Grian's alley/base wasn't finished. There wasn't any cohesion with the giga-base, aside from making the blocks touch. Did Scar do anything with the mountain aside from building it? They led us to believe that for the update places outside the island could be removed/replaced and they'd continue. Suddenly, everyone finishes their base and the fan theory that the moon was going to _cause_ the caves & cliffs update. Instead it was, "meh, let's just restart."
Something else that annoys me is subscribing to Hermits who stop playing. Or they take 2-4 months off and return pretending nothing happened, then go away again. Stress, Iskall, Welsknight, and VintageBeef were all ones I'd subscribed to that practically stopped doing anything. I had started watching Etho, but then he stopped. At least TFC has a reason why he's slow to upload, but he keeps going.
Sorry man but you really need to chill out. This isn’t a tv show. Everyone is human. If the hermits thought it was the best decision to start fresh then I’m all for it. There was plenty of unfinished stuff… like all seasons and many other series on UA-cam. There was so much accomplished in this season for most hermits. Stress has a lot of irl isssues going on and has kids, Etho has other series that are a lot of effort and fun too, Iskall got really pressured and ended up enjoying Vault hunters a lot more, Tfc actually had a ton of time to make vids and progress but had trouble getting motivated. Every single hermit is an adult with responsibilities that we don’t know about. They don’t HAVE to make videos for us. It’s basically a service. I do hope next season will be longer, but we’ll see because I personally loved this season.

I think that it started in a weird spot, at starting, they didn’t have info on the 1.18 update, and since they were all on one island, updating would mean that yea they would be on 1.18, but the whole island would stay in 1.17 and only new chunks would generate in 1.18...I think that they made the right call
I also almost exclusively watch Etho. And in my experience Etho is a really good touchstone for the quality and livelihood of a server. The more active he is, the more active the server and all the other creators are. He was very rarely on this server and really didn't do a whole lot this season. He obviously has other series, and a personal life, and things so it's not a guarantee. But even going back to the mindcrack days, and the meme of Etho and Bdubs working on a project always killing a season. Hermitcraft with such big names and Etho having never really "popped off" the way grian and mumbo and some of the others have, means it doesn't really rely on him to drive content or viewership. But he definitely has always felt like the canary in the coal mine for minecraft servers.
Grian called out Impulse for his S7 base not being mega, so he went nuts in S8, only to have the season cut short. 🤦🏻♂️
I'm a bit sad that joehills and zombiecleo haven't quite finished there base. And than there is the problem with iskall who i still doubt will join the new season cuz he was mostly absent from season 8 do to vault hunters
If this was always going to be a short season, Iskall may have intentionally not commited to much, given how busy he was.
Once he became less busy, the season was nearly over, so I doubt he'd wanna start getting stuck in.

Here's my theory on why the moon crashed on to the Island.
So you know in 1.18 the depth of the world wasnincreased by 64 blocks. But so was the height. The height of 1.18 increased the gravitation pull so the moon was too close to the hc 8 world. Therefor the gravity got the moon and slowly pulled it towards the earth. So because hc was slowly turning into 1.18 it accidentally had a side effect to the moon which is the reason it flew to the earth. And ended hc 8
Several of them are sounding burned out. Jevin, Keralis, even Xisuma. Wels and Stress have basically moved on. And then there's Iskall, victim to the negativity of the growing fan base.
Getting Grian in season six was like signing a pact with the Devil: you got a lot more exposure, but also got the younger and more vicious Grian fan base. Those guys go around attacking the other Hermits in comments and streams. It was too much for Iskall, it may have been too much for Doc too, who hinted recently in a chat that he's going to take time away.

I remember when I was watching Grian's video he was kind of rushing to finish his base and I was like "Why? You got the whole season to finish it" and then I was like wait what it's over?
idk if anyone else is thinking this or maybe I'm just slightly oblivious, but I feel like the moon crashes in this season and in season 9, they're gonna use the same world seed but then have mountains far out beyond where they built bases (because the moon pushed the terrain outwards) and have a massive crater in the middle of the world of where the moon fell. The deep dark exists because the moon crashed and merged with the Earth.
The deep dark will be coming in the next update not this one. The world generation has also changed, so you can not generate the same world in 1.18. And thirdly I don't think they will start with an altered world, but stay with vanilla generation.

It was obvious the season was ending. Hermitcraft used to have their server hosted by Cubedhost, and whilst I have no evidence, I believe it still was, however right at the same time as the moon growing big thing started, Cubedhost announced they are closing business, and servers had to be moved elsewhere. It kinda makes sense that it had to end. It ended pretty much 1 week before Cubedhost shut their doors. Also, notice no mention of the world download amongst the outros...
Hermitcraft isn't using Cubedhost anymore, hasn't been in a long time, Xisuma said once that they're using some other company they don't want to disclose. Also, the world download is coming, it just always takes some time
I had been watching Hermitcraft Since the middle of the 7th season to now, I think Season 8 had the best ending and was the most interesting.
I personally loved season 8. I do wish it was a bit longer, another month or so. But in terms of quality, it is definitely one of, if not the best season yet. The use of mods and stories between all of the Hermits made it feel more personal. It was less, let's watch these people play Minecraft but let's tune in every week to see what happens next.

Also, with the wild update and the pushback of the warden, it would will be better to tie that into the 9th season and have a massive crazy exploration in the middle of the season, and not at the beginning and getting wrecked by a warden
while i hope they keep making the seasons long, i really feel like this was the right decision. it obviously wasn't the decision from the start, but i think it worked out perfectly with them keeping mostly to the main island. everyone ended up with smaller builds, and people were already finishing things up even before the decision because if they had continued the season everyone would have just been moving off the island anyway. which also would have resulted in everyone being further away from each other. we made a similar decision with my small server, where we were originally going to unload a bunch of unused chunks in order to have new terrain but it just didn't feel right with how massively this update changes the overworld.
Xisuma uploaded a video on his xisumasays channel, where he answers questions about hermitcraft season 8. He confirmed that it was never really their intention to reset chunks outside the continent. They knew going in that it was going to be a short season. But they didn't want to tell people that, otherwise they might not think it was worth watching if they knew it was ending by the end of the year.
They did keep the resetting chunks idea in mind, in case Mojang's plans changed or something, but it was never the Hermit's intention to reset chunks.
Not just mega base but also on a small island as well but love the animation & story 😁

I feel like the move away from mega bases was more to do with things like reducing lag (not everyone having every farm or a huge sorting system) and also bringing people closer together, like with boatem, since they were moving slightly more towards content driven by interactions between hermits (also being the first season with proximity chat) rather than the main focus being building and farms. Probably as well just that some creators were tired of creating mega bases. I think the update was just way too good with all the generation changes and they might have felt it would be worse for the hermitcraft series as a whole to not be playing entirely on the new update especially if everyone has already built their main bases in a pre update area. It makes me a bit sad to not see some builds from season 8 be completely finished but I think finishing early was ultimately the right choice because the new update is amazing and I can't wait to see what everyone will do for their new bases.

Scar never got his main base started (the city above the mountains he made), the Big Eye's shopping district just got finished, etc.
However, it was best for them to start a whole new server for 1.18. We can only imagine what they will make with the new increased Y coordinates. I am certain someone will try to make a base that reaches from bedrock to the new build height.
I would like to say that in a livestream, Scar was asked a question in the chat. He answered with “No, season 8 has just started!” I’m not sure if this changes anything, but I’d like to point it out.
I think the video essay was spot on, but I also think one aspect that you could have explored was WHY so many builds were not mega. That is because on the island, hermits were so close to one another. This meant that the builds almost couldn’t be mega (with exceptions like wels and impulse, or the joint collaboration builds when they were made by multiple hermits like the swamp or btm area). I think the hermits knew ahead of time that this would be a smaller season due to 1.18, so they purposefully put themselves closer together, trading mega builds for more collaborations between the crew. Sure TFC did his own thing like he normally does, but everyone else had some great collaborations throughout the season. BTM, horsehead farms, big eye crew; these teams and more were great and carried the season in a way like never before (personally making it my favorite ever). Heck, even zedalph, a hermit that is a hilarious loner to some, did hermit collaborations with the experiments.

i dont think they ended it because of anything like "it getting dragged out" i think they have been planning this for a while so that there would be a nice transition to the new update, a more creative way of doing "well the new update is out so we are going to just wipe the world and start on S9" and i love that they made it into a story where the world got destroyed by the moon, and the production value of all the hermits were super amazing
part of me thinks if it weren't for 1.18 this season could've gone on a lot longer with a lot more interesting things happening. the whole singular island shtick was really fun, and if they showed more of the travel time between places i think this season could've been the most connected season yet

Iskall was streaming last night, he said he'd be back for S9 and the reason he was gone for the majority of S8 was because 1: He was ill and couldn't speak much, and 2: by the time he was OK again, the moon plot was already in full swing and he couldn't fit himself in properly.

In season 7 he had a bunch of IRL stuff that weighed very heavily on him, and while he didn't have as much motivation to grind on hermitcraft, streaming his modpack was a lot easier. After a month or two he started doing more on HC again, but then the season was about to end. And while S8 was going, he also had the second itteration of his modpack going. And since it was getting close to being done he put a lot of effort into that for the last months.
If you're curious, he streams it quite often on his Twitch, and the mopack is called Vault Hunters. He has a server of it together with X33N, CaptainSparklez, HBomb94, Seapeekay, Petezahutt, and a bunch more. It's an extraordinarily expansive modpack based around procedurally generated dungeons called Vaults.
I think that it was so they could update to 1.18 and start new with all the new generation.
This is the first HC video i watched in about 5 month. I somehow fell out with all the "boatem" and storytelling stuff, it was not minecraft any more, it was a telenovela and minecraft was the medium. Anyway, hearing with how much passion you like HC, it shows that the Hermits made the right call in changing their content into a more story orientated way. I am so glad there are people who love the new HC way of playing the game!
It seems that season 8 was full of experimental stuff such as the closer/co-owned bases and the addition of storytelling elements.
It's not hard to believe Season 9 do away with some of this stuff, integrate it to lesser extent or find ways to improve on it moving foward

I loved this season so much, and I think that it was a good idea to do a complete restart so all the hermits could start anew in the new terrain generation.

Season 8 feels like the most cinematic season has ever done. Between Xisuma, iJevin, Rem and Doc, as well as Welsknight, season 8 had many hermits doing cinematic cuts energy storylines for their episodes. I enjoyed the style and I enjoyed the episodes they made for season 8. But I do wish impulse, Stress and the others who didn't get the chance to finish the majority of their bases got that chance.
Season 8 was short because of updates
Ok...Hermitcraft Season 8 was planned to be cut short or extended. It has nothing to do with their bases, but it has everything to do with the 1.17 and 1.18 updates. 1.17 was already a wonky update, because so much was left open and unfinished all so they could easily mesh 1.18 in when it was done, HOWEVER that didn't mean it would be a clean mesh. 1.18 was already a debatable carry over when Xisuma started talking about new world generation. 1.18 has completely rewritten the world generation code and because of that, updating the server to ad these new things WOULD LITERALLY TEAR THE WORLD APART! Not like how the moon did heavens no. If they followed through with what they were planning and resetting the world outside the island there would be no mesh between where the old version and the new version would begin, meaning their would massive chunk errors surrounding the island that could lead you into the void. Everyone was making small bases at the start cause they didn't know if the mesh would happen, when it started getting closer they started making bigger plans, but then those plans were quickly tapered off. Most of the Hermits didn't even finish their bases, because in case ya'll didn't know...the community is pretty loud...and naggy. 1.17 was supposed to be 1.18 PERIOD but we got it split because people were impatient. If the Hermits continued to play in 1.17, not only would they receive complaints from the community, but they could also get bored because 1.17 was an incomplete update in general.
You can also add to that that some have already said that season 8 was supposed to be an experimental short season for them anyways. This is why they added some new things and tried out different things. So that if they ended up not liking what they're doing they wouldn't have to live with it for as long as a long season

In reality I think it helped fill in the gap to Part 2 of the Caves & Cliffs Update. This season was more of a "filler" to me due to them waiting for the C & C Update P2. It was started in the area where we knew that P2 was coming in the holidays not in the summer.
Personally I think S8 and S9 will have a linked storyline as the moon storyline cannot just stop there. So, I do think there will be a lot of cross references etc from it. I just call S9 the second season of an already good running series - it's always left on a cliff hanger and will be resolved next season.
I liked season 8, but I'd say it was probably my least favorite season. It was fun, but I don't feel like we got the most fun out of it that we could have.
