      All I felt was sadness when he said that. He used those words to masks the real reason he gave her the wrong number(trying to spare her emotions)...... Carm wants nothing to do with his past because everything from his past heighten his anxiety and add to his trauma. When he had that panic attack at the back of the restaurant, thinking about her didn't help 1 bit. That means she's not part of his solution, but another unhealthy root to his problem just like his family. It took the freezer scene for him to be brutally honest with her.

    The only reason people hate Claire is because she's not toxic.

    What’s with all the hate on Claire? Manic Pixie Dream Girl? She’s the exact opposite of Manic, which is what everyone else on this show is. With maybe the exception of Pete, Sugars husband. Who also is a great character who is loving and supportive even though he’s thrust into this crazy family. I agree she could be fleshed out a bit more, but give it some time. Richie was pretty one dimensional for most of season 1 but now is one of the most sympathetic and relatable characters not just on this show but any I’ve seen recently. The fact she works as an ER doctor ( providing some hospitality in a stressful environment) and is still a decent person who can foster healthy relationships should be take as a sign of hope for Carmy… even if they don’t end up together

    Carmy's relationship with Claire is the best thing to happen to him in a long time, but Carmy is damaged and he knows it. Damaged to the point of thinking that he doesn't deserve to be with somebody like Claire. I hope Carmy can get it together and things will work out with them.

      She’s boring af. A total mary sue character and ‘clearly just a plot device to show that Carmy isn’t ready for a relationship rn.

      @@applemoneroy7371 how is she boring? Her and Carmie vibe perfectly together. In all their scenes she has a soft, soothing voice but she’s still got a sense of humour that pokes fun at him without diminishing him, she’s supportive, she literally didn’t do anything intentional to get in his way plus she’s in medical school making her own money not to mention she’s beautiful to top it all off

    • @applemoneroy7371

      Like I said she’s a Mary sue. She’s like this perfect person, completely out of alignment w every other character on the show, who we see has flaws and an actual personality. Everybody kept saying how great she was but we only saw her through the other characters lenses so what about her was so great? Why would I as an audience member root for them? Ig she was nice, but that was about it. I didn’t dislike her but she’s obviously just a plot device to show Carmy isn’t ready for a relationship rn. Plus I felt like her version of Carmy isn’t the version of himself that literally everyone else experiences, so is that even the real Carmy or just him trying to be a more mellow version of himself to fit how she sees him… Like that time she told him not to ever apologize was so cringe, because he Fuchs up a lot and NEEDS to apologize sometimes. I just think she treated him like some soft baby boy instead of the highly complex person he is and it gave off weird vibes… Carmy needs therapy, not a relationship lol

      @nomad_wm 9 місяців тому +9

      @@applemoneroy7371 okay you make some good points but I think I just disagree because personally everything you dislike about her character is what I enjoy about her. She IS perfect, and as a consumer that’s what really all I want for my protagonist in a love interest. But yo repute the “she was nice, but that was about it” argument, that feels like an oversimplification. To elaborate, she has a quirky sense of humour and way of teasing that doesn’t cross any lines. She also has a history with Carmie and she showed on more than one occasion that she is super attentive - she remembered the restaurant name that they apparently told no one - and held Carmie in a high regard for a long time. She serves as a major contrast to the high stress, high volume environment he works in and provides a softer, gentle oasis he can come home to. I agree he needs therapy, but he needs therapy because he’s so fucked up, he can’t accept that he deserves to be loved by the perfect woman or even just accept his own kindness regardless of a woman. There’s also this stigma here with Carmie that I see with a lot of main characters and more specifically Spider-Man/Peter Parker, that the narrative always has to beat him up and he’s not ever allowed to be without adversity or struggle. Why can’t he have the perfect girl? Why can’t he be allowed to heal his trauma? Why do we always have to watch everything just suck for him and he has to overcome?

      @@nomad_wm i respectfully disagree, we can both enjoy the show for different reasons. If they flesh her character out more, which I don’t see happening cuz her placement feels pretty random in a show about a restaurant and it’s staff… then maybe I can warm up to her, as long as it’s natural good writing, doesn’t feel forced or isn’t boring it’s all good to me.

    • @bananaduck14
      @bananaduck14 5 місяців тому +12

      Yeah thats kind of the point, she represents the calm in his life which is why he eventually rejects her. He cant be calm for too long or he starts shutting down, the only way his lifestyle is sustainable is if he doesnt have the time to think about it. His character arc will most likely entail him changing that about himself and being able to relax

      I don’t know. We saw how she handles herself in a chaotic and crazy party environment. She did really well there. She’s also an ER doctor; emergency rooms are high stress, fast paced environments. We’ve never heard her complain about having problems with handling that.

      @@nomad_wmcalm? She took him to a party with grown ppl living like kids. A party police had to break up. How is that calmness? You can only understand and see toxic ppl when you've experienced it yourself. Claire and Carm relationship will only get one saying from me "Uh-oh". Even his uncle knew it was a recipe for a disaster. AND the Uncle is very much aware of Carm's past and probably knows Claire.

    I have a hard time seeing them together in a relationship when Carm clearly has more chemistry with Sydney. However, it is still unclear what the writers will make of Sydney and Carmy's relationship, whether they will keep it as a mentor relationship or whether there is actually a deeper chemistry. I think it's interesting how the "under the table" scene could be interpreted in so many ways. Personally, I could clearly see a deeper chemistry between them, which was especially at a point in the scene where carmy looks deeply at sydney and then immediately turns his gaze away, almost as if he is trying to "brush the moment off"... The relationship between Carmy and Sydney is clearly something that many have a hard time to accept, maybe they are scared that the writers mess it up, it will be exciting to see what the writers make of them. If there were to be a romantic relationship between them, however, I expect it to happen in 2 seasons minimum, it will possibly be a slow burn.

      Ive gotta be honest. If Carm and Syd get together I'll stop watching. Its a boring trope and not what either character needs or deserves. Their dynamic as it is is perfectly fine.

    • @kroakie4
      @kroakie4 4 місяці тому +3

      I won’t stop watching if it happens. But ONLY for two reasons: I want to see what happens with Richie, and it would kill me not to know if Carmy gets better (separately or in a relationship). Sydney wouldn’t be good for Carmy as, during her downtime, she can’t relax and get her mind off of the restaurant - just like Carmy. He needs to be with somebody who will get him out of there, giving him a chance to think on his problems and find answers. The restaurant is just an excuse for him not to do that. Plus, it’s hinted that Sydney carries trauma too, and a hurting person can’t heal well in a romantic relationship with another wounded person. They need to be around emotionally stable, healthy individuals. Claire is emotionally stable and healthy.

    Carmy needs both Clair and Sydney. It's just impossible to mix work with relationship with Sydney and Carmy. It would be a disaster, Claire is a nice balance who is outside of the kitchen

    • @kroakie4
      @kroakie4 4 місяці тому

      More importantly though, Claire will give Carmy an opportunity to process all he’s been through, in a safe non-work environment. Work is a crutch for Carmy that he uses to put off confronting his demons. Instead of going home at the end of the day and continuing to focus on work drama, like we’ve seen him do, he can be encouraged by Claire’s calm and supportive nature to start thinking about the root of his problems during this time. Working through that and bonding with somebody as he does so, would be beneficial to Carmy. We’ve seen how Sydney goes home and harps on work drama too, so that would be bad for him. Sydney would only distract him from healing.

      Claire had a crush on Carmy for a long time too. Carmy didn’t reject her advances, either. He’s shy so he’s probably a bit relieved that he doesn’t have to initiate everything. It’s outdated to think that a woman shouldn’t pursue a man they like if that man is showing interest in return. And Carmy was reciprocating her interest.

      I think what’s so great about their relationship is that Claire is so normal and emotionally mature compared to the chaos and instability in Carmy’s life and his family which really allows Claire to ground Carmy allowing us to see a much more open and vulnerable version of him allowing Carmy to have so much emotional richness in this season and developing his character a long way
