      She balances Carmy out, at least she tries to. A lot of the traits Carmy lacks seem to be found in Claire: confidence, certainty about her desires in life, ability to effectively balance her work and personal life so everybody wins, emotional stability (at least she seems stable now, but I’m betting the writers will reveal a troubled side to Claire if she stays on for season 3), and happiness. I really love these two together as well and I disagree with all the negativity going around about her. People only see what they want to see sometimes. She’s good for Carmy. Just maybe he can learn to be good for her, too.

    Noticed an interesting line in this scene, "I just stared at her arm." "Because you wanted to fix it?" "I wanted to understand it." Really good subtextual writing there. Shows her approach to the relationship. She wasn't there to fix Carmen, which he might have been afraid of. She was there to try to understand him, something much deeper and more helpful.

    Yeah I wasn't a big fan of the whole Claire storyline either personally. It's not awful or anything and the actor does a fine job, its just that the season's other storylines are so exciting and fast paced and tense that every time one of these scenes comes up the whole show screeches to a halt.

      To be fair, I think that’s the point. Claire is normalcy. What she offers is the chance at a healthy, normal, loving relationship, which is so unlike what Carmen grew up with that he immediately feels the need to self sabotage it, because he’s more comfortable in chaos and disfunction.

Her and carmy don’t really have a lot of chemistry. It feels forced and later on you find out that carmy felt weird about their relationship bc of his personal issues around love. And I think she was only there to show viewers more depth into carmy. All of the characters are very complex and interesting and then we are given Claire she doesn’t exist outside of carmy. Carmy is shy and a bit awkward. Claire is more outgoing, but even she is a little weird occasionally. But it could be because she senses Carmy’s tension. Of course it’s not going to be perfect every time he talks to someone, especially not with Claire. I thought claire was a truly amazing addition who offered a lot of emotional growth and development for carmy. It was great to see claire provide such a strong stable platform for carmy to dissect all of his issues in his past and truly open up in a way that we haven’t seen before. Provided a fascinating conflict for carmy to tackle next season. Hope to see Claire herself fleshed out more and developed in the next season too because Molly Gordon and Jeremy Allen White are incredible opposite each other.

    • @kroakie4
      @kroakie4 6 місяців тому +4

      I agree, they have wonderful chemistry. Carmy really let down his guard and opened up with Claire much more than we’ve seen him do with any other character, and fairly quickly too. It’s because he’s known her so long. These two are hinted to have been somewhat close growing up, so Claire likely heard about, and possibly even witnessed, the abuse he’d endured. She knows who the real dude is underneath the insecurities and trauma. So Carmy’s comfortable around her. Claire has this distinct advantage over every other character…except Sugar and Richie, maybe.

    Probably because I’m a guy but Claire was real asf to me. Some other fans I heard from didn’t like her but I thought the character made sense. A lot of the ambitious people I know are also nostalgic lovers I think that makes sense for these two to hang onto each other after so long. And she’s cool.

    • @kroakie4
      @kroakie4 7 місяців тому +3

      I love Claire as well. She’s so sweet and warm! I also think that it makes sense that she and Carmy don’t seem to have totally let go of every remnant of their past feelings. Those feelings just seem to have been lying dormant, judging from how quickly these two started their relationship. And, yeah, Carmy did give Claire a bad phone number but I think he was just barely treading water, what with his emotional turmoil, being preoccupied with work, and al-anon meetings - the prospect of adding Claire to the mix was just really daunting for him. Carmy was always into Claire (but maybe was either too shy to admit it or felt an attraction subconsciously), and she always felt the same way. When Carmy is around her he actually seems kind of relaxed, which is in total contrast to every other character he interacts with. I think because they’ve known each other since childhood, Claire has an advantage that the others lack (excepting Richie) in that she probably can grasp what he’s been through and how it’s caused him to be so messed up emotionally.

      The simple fact that Claire exists in the series is already a reason for her to receive hate and that is so stupid. People keep trying to find excuses to hate her, when we know that the real reason is because a large part of the fandom believes that she is “hindering” the romance between Carmy and Sydney. Then they will start to say that she is a poorly developed character, even though many characters were not in the first season and only in the second they managed to be developed, not to mention that there are still characters that have been since the first and have not been developed, but there is no one distributing hate on them, but they do not spare efforts to throw free hate on the character who has just arrived in the story. Not to mention that they keep throwing the responsibilities of the male protagonist on the female character as always, as if she was to blame for him not doing his part in the restaurant. She always asked if it was okay for him to go out with her, and he instead of saying that he was busy at the moment, he agreed to go out with her ignoring his responsibilities. And even with his absence during the season, the restaurant managed to open on time and was a success at the opening, despite the refrigerator problem.

    • @kroakie4
      @kroakie4 6 місяців тому +3

      You hit the nail on the head on all of it. People only see what they want to see sometimes. With the overwhelming push for inclusion in society right now, I truly believe a lot of people just want to see a bi-racial couple on tv. A lot of people have failed to internalize what the show’s cast and producers have said regarding a Carmy/Sydney relationship. Claire deserves none of the hate because she is underdeveloped (or for any other preconceived flaws); other characters are still in their infancy too, as you pointed out. Claire has not had sufficient screen time to develop as a character. Another thing that irks me is that nobody seems to be able to reach a unified decision on if they want a romance subplot on The Bear. Some people hate the idea and others like it, but only if it goes their way (Carmy dating Sydney).

    • @snakeswithhats1913
      @snakeswithhats1913 5 місяців тому +1

      @@analuiza6306she isn’t like the other characters at all though. She literally only exists through Carmy. She’s only on screen when Carmy’s on screen, when she’s talking it’s about Carmy, when others talk about her it’s to Carmy or in reference to him, the conflict of the season is about how she effects Carmy not the other way around. She is massively underdeveloped but for completely different reasons.

  • @kroakie4
    @kroakie4 6 місяців тому +29

    Carmy is obviously in love with Claire. So the question is: why did he give her a fake number? I think it was that Carmy either (as he’s said more than once) doesn’t feel worthy of receiving pleasure from a relationship with her or didn’t feel like he was worthy of being the person to give Claire pleasure. That or he’s honestly at a loss on how to balance his work/ personal life and panicked because he didn’t want to hurt Claire if he couldn’t give her the time she deserves. I think its a psychological thing and not at all because he’s disinterested in her.

    This song. I first heard Strange Currencies when I was 14 when I first watched Under The Silver Lake (great movie) and fell in love with the track immediately. Pretty sure I considered it the best part of an already amazing film, even though it just played over the closing credits. However, I always just thought of R.E.M. as one of those bands that my parents listened to and not much else more, so for whatever reason, I just sort of forgot about it. Until a year and a half - maybe two years later (?) when it just popped back up in my life again, and it knocked me flat. That was, until it just left my brain again. So, for the past seven years, this song just creeps back into my head again to allow me to have a little (much needed) cry every once in a while, and these times have been very few and far between., So, when it started playing under the context of an old love coming back unexpectedly in this show that I was really falling madly in love with, it nearly killed me honestly. It's so amazing what art can do.

    I'm confused by the meaning of the lines... Clair asks: "Do you Remember Katie from Roosevelt?" Carm then asks, after her story about the arm: "That was Roosevelt or...?" To which Clair then says "Uh no, Mrs. Kelly's".
    Can someone explain this to me!? From what I understand "Roosevelt" is a school in the first sentence, but then later Roosevelt is put in the same sentence as "Mrs. Kelly" as if Roosevelt is a person? Is "Roosevelt" two different things? Or does Claire suddenly remember wrong, and that it wasn't in fact at Roosevelt, but at Mrs Kelly's? But that doesn't make sense either since Mrs. Kelly isn't a school but a person... I'm confused!

      I think its like Roosevelt is an elementary school and Mrs Kellys is daycare or something. Carmy might know Katie from Roosevelt since they could have all went there together. But the story about Katie breaking her arm was from when Claire and Katie were at Mrs Kelly's which Carmy may not have gone to. Just clarifying that Katie didnt break her arm at Roosevelts since Carmy didnt remember that happening.

      She was fine but I didn't want that relationship and maybe that was the point of Claire. She was this overly perfect woman, seemingly with no flaws who just breezes back into his life from the past. She was the girl that his family and friends were always nudging him towards. I thought she was just a device to illustrate that clinging to the ideas and desires from the past is impossible when trauma has transformed you into a different person and also the filed romance highlights that Carmy is not ready to accept something as vulnerable and confrontational as 'love' when his whole life has been devoid of any healthy displays of love. Donna admitted that she didn't know how to show that she loved her kids. Michael's only way to demonstrate love for Carmy was to push him away. The man doesn't think he deserves any kind of love, he has very low self worth outside of what he can do in a kitchen.
      What he has now at The Bear is the closest thing he has ever had to a functioning family. His relationship with Syd is the healthiest relationship he has ever had and the reason it works is because they communicate, they have understanding, empathy, trust and respect for each other, shared passion, shared professional goals, even shared trauma. I'm not saying that Carmy and Syd are definitely going to take a step from platonic to romantic but I am saying that this relationship is going to be foundational in Carmy's ability to be in any kind of successful romantic relationship in the future. Personally I do think they will make great romantic partners by the end of the shows run.

    I was creeped out she sat there in the finale, listened to him at his darkest most insecure moment… didn’t tell him she was doing that… and then twisted the knife in even further.
    She’s awful.

      I mean he said some pretty hurtful things about the relationship, suggesting it was a waste of time and that he doesn’t want to be happy. He even said that no amount of happy is worth how bad he feels right now. So he’s the one that hurt her and twisted the knife.
      Weird to think it’s her fault.

      @@JoshHinrichs-vv2ft eavesdropping on someone discussing their darkest emotions in a moment of weakness… not announcing your presence and just listening… and then using it against the person. Frankly it’s disgusting behavior. There is no defending it. Same way there is no defending syd when she bailed on carmine.
      This poor guy is surrounded by toxic people.

      @@Primenumber19 it isn’t disgusting one bit. it’s not like she’s eavesdropping on a stranger, it’s her boyfriend, her closest person in her personal life. if carmy was feeling this way, she’s the ONE person who would need to know.
      she didn’t use anything against him? explain how she did lol. are you good?

      @@JoshHinrichs-vv2ft she basically said well if that’s how you feel let’s break up. Then she siced his “cousin” on him know full well he was already destroyed. And what did he do? He freaked out in his cousin because a person he cared about just betrayed him while he was locked in a room being tortured physically and mentally.
