I find that the love and admiration we have for certain people ends up being counter productive in some aspects. They are so godly to us that either we fuck our creativity or place them in such a high standard that everything seems impossible to match because X made it, so it's obviously genius. I struggle with that all the time. The number of times that I made a beat and threw it away because I though it was bad and then I find something similar made by the a producer I admire...

That is so true. After analyzing a lot work for study purposes there is a lot of "there is no way they did this on purpose". The small imperfections that give character to someone aren't something to be emulated.
I think the line between inspiration and jealously is somewhere in there.
When you analyze to do something with that feel it is inspiration, but when people literally copy Carti and Travis whole voice and beat structure , for example, then I think it is jealously

@@Narokx "there is no way they did this on purpose" That's really spot on. I often found myself trying to emulate artists that I love but end up messing up, when really a lot of things just happen "by accident" or with the artist just "feeling" it's right. Gotta work on just feeling my way through it instead of agonizing about who I wanna sound like

@@Narokx A lot of the legends made things that they thought sounded good, sometimes it's complex to make but most of the time it's simple. The difficulty comes in trying to find that sound that resonates with you.

If you ever used an MPC before that's a really obvious and basic technique, beatmakers rely so much on interfaces these days when they should really rely on their ears 👂

Now this is the Narox type of tutorial I like. More humanized more engaged like I feel you’re just beside me giving tips. But It’s all good what ever direction you’re in to I respect that. Just saying my personal reference. Anyway about that type of sampling. It’s actually easy doing it on A Maschine by just copy/pasting each sample on each pads. And on FL I can could say it’s easy to do it on slicex. This is all if you are fixated with the tempo of the beat and drums since that is where you’re gonna pattern your sample to groove. It really make sense tho. I didn’t dwell on this technique much coz Im more usually focus on the groove of the sample and not the drums since I can manipulate it. But I didn’t thought of it vice versa. Thanks for reminding me of that! I’ll test this on the lab and see if what wonders I could produced on this n mind! Thank you again mate. PS: I hope you have a discord for members who think A like so we can share ideas like this.

Thanks for the words!! I am super close to working with camera too so I can put my face out there too!Discord probably once I hit 1k subs and 4k hours watched so my channel becomes monetized!!
As for Fl... I am all but done with it. Sometime in the next 2 years I see myself completely switching to Ableton, it is so much better for sampling (but there is still so many Fl things I can't live without)

Well, it's weird to examine a couple songs from Nujabes and judge that process for every track he made. Tracks like Luv (sic) Part 1 or Peaceland are way more complex than Aruarian Dance or Reflection Eternal. And I don't think it's a stretch to think that he was filtering and making more technical adjustments to samples. Some of his friends talk about him geeking out with various fx programming in the studio, which is evident on most of his music. I think Sea of Cloud is definitely up there though, both with the amount of sampling techniques he used and fx usage that made sense musically.
As a music composer and producer I can definitely say, even disregarding any existing biases, that his music is on a whole other level than it appears on the surface.
Regardless, your breakdowns are always very fascinating to watch. Re-creating these tracks isn't easy at all. Important to note btw that FL Studio has an easy way to get rid of those clipping noises when chopping samples.

    • @Narokx
      @Narokx  2 роки тому +3

Thanks for your words! Sea of Clouds was insanely complex, even after simplifying it.
About generalizing Nujabes... well I said I noticed he does this in a couple of his tracks and I wouldn't be surprised if he did it a lot in other track as well (one thing I've realized is that producers have habits).
Surprised me, but yeah Nujabes is the most complicated mixing wise. Can't wat to analyze him more for my Low End Theory video!

Hey Narokx! To clarify, it sounds like Nujabes primarily relied on his ear?
Then based on what he liked, he would chop each note and stitch them back together forming something more cohesive? Would that be an accurate statement?

No trying to hate or anything, but this technique was already obvious to me when I was remaking beats. DAWs and modern audio software have so many advanced features so easily accessible that is has spoiled producers, and now as you've experienced it yourself, who have lost touch with a simple rule: Keep It Simple, Stupid. No need to timestretch stuff, that just wasn't a thing on older hardware. But hey, at least you figured it out.

If you add up all the hours was prob 7 to 10 hours of work. I just try to not do too much at once because I tend to get fixated and loose lots of time on bad ideas. So yeah it took multiple sitdowns across 2 to 3 months.
But I am working on projects. COVID is still keeping me from recording artists, but I am dropping mixtapes with remixes, all different styles (as a learning drill) the first project is almost done and it is a Phonk mixtape
