#samplebreakdown #nujabes #shing02
Nujabes and Shing02 were basically the Asian version of MF DOOM and Madlib duo.
Man, that is blasphemous in so many ways. Shing02 is nowhere near DOOM's level and neither is Nujabes compared to Madlib.
@@DaveDEF82 i prefer nujabes to madlib but maybe you’re right on a technical level. Shingo2 straight up ruins all the songs in the luv sic series imo.
@@DaveDEF82 tbh I think nujabes was objectively better than mad lib at cutting shit up, even though I like both they’re beats equally. But yeah MF DOOM is on a whole other level compared to shing, and I don’t think anyone can compare to him really.
Wouldnt rlly compare them. All of them have a different feel that fit their style. Some may say Doom level was not close to Shing02 but have completly different styles of rapping.
@@Eeter26 I think he adds something to luv sic, I can’t imagine it without his lyrics
this is what’s so great about Nujabes. He can put together a track like Aruarian Dance where he barley touches an extensive loop, and then make a song like “luv. sic pt. 1” and REALLY highlights his talent and chopping skills. Amazing. RIP.
Yooo LLusion, your lofi song remixes prompted me to start making music. Great to see you appreciate the legendary Nujabes
@BowesyPlays yes that's what he said. Read the comment again
@BowesyPlays that's what he said, gifted kid.
for self, this is strangely where i find greatest joy in sampling. Where it just comes together without too much manipulation.
flowers is the one chop i cant get my head around. i can hear all the notes and chords in the sample but i cant even begin to fathom how seba placed them together so beatifully

Nujabes isn't dead, just press play.
He simply became music.

deep.
exactly. jun seba sama lives forever in my playlist & heart🙏🏼
Nujabes died in 2010
This is why Nujabes production will never fade away. REST IN BEATS.
I remember shuffling a nujabes playlist when I was laying in bed. I ended up falling asleep and when I woke up, the instrumental of luv sic pt2 was playing. I didn't know the song at that time but it captured me because it made me think of really deep stuff. I ended up leaving it on loop for like 2 hours while staring out my window in the middle of the night. One of my favorite nujabes memories ever.
yes
Truu
Wow "really deep stuff" 🗿
I had an enlightenment while listening to this song 💖 deepest stuff ever :)
my all time favorite out of all of luv(sic) !!
The way he flipped pt.2 is very genius.
People might say "Ah he just sampling other's people music. That's not real artist"
For me, the knowledge of all those crazy jazz pieces and the chopping ability are what make him special.
Love to see Brazilian songs had an influence on his music.
I don't get why Brazilian music doesn't get the love it deserves from the rest of the world. Some of the most beautiful music I have heard was made by Brazilian artists.
@@glipk becos in the end it's just music man
My country cant have proud of a Lot of thing, but bro, If you learn portuguese you will hear how good music can be.
@@glipk agree, clube da esquina is one of the most beautiful albums i've ever heard.

Oh, I hope there's a Sample Breakdown for parts 4-6.
Part 4 is interpolation.
Part 5 doesn't use sample for the main instruments.
And part 6, if I remember correctly, use sample but Uyama Hiroto (Nujabes' friend and frequent collaborator) added some more instruments to the track.
If I am not mistaken, Uyama Hiroto was the one who helped finishing Luv Sic part 4-6
@@notgedd For Luv Sic 6 you were wrong. First Nujabes used a sample, which is precisely this (ua-cam.com/video/0q5G2hD3iAo/v-deo.html) at 1:58, which is from 1977 and, curiously, same artist as the main sample of Luv Sic 2. Uyama helped to finish Luv Sic 6 only after Jun died, unfortunately. This song was found in his cell phone after he died on February 26, 2010 in a car accident, but it wasn't finished yet, and Hiroto's help was needed :)
@@ziojis I already know the sample for pt 6. Like I said Uyama *helped* finishing the tracks (I've read the cellphone story too). He added some more instruments to the track. You can hear him playing sax on some parts of the track.
@@notgedd oh yeah, i've read wrong, i noticed now, sorry 😅
@@ziojis it's fine
Thank you for this!! Luv(sic) part 2 gets me every time 😭
I thought I was Spanish at first but it’s Brazilian it always amazes me how similar they are

I was at an opening event of a bar in Kyoto back in 2018. As a DJ and a producer myself, I was introduced to this one DJ and we were talking about Japanese music (since I was from South Korea) and then I think I started talking about sampling and Nujabes, and the DJ goes, "Oh him? Yeah great dude. I used to DJ with him a lot. Chill & reserved dude tho. Not so much fun to drink with ya know."
Was so shocked cuz he was talking about literally one of the greatest producer/DJ of all time as if he was a dude across the street (as he should cuz he knew Nujabes personally lol) Never knew I would have these random moments in my life lol
Wow
Beautiful, the best sample breakdown ever. It’s fascinating how a Japanese guy used Brazilian records at that time. There was no internet, no google, and yet he managed to do all that.
Love to Nujabes.
What do you mean there was no internet or google? Lol 😂
@@Ketsado nujabes started in the mid 90s up to his death in 2010. His record store helped him source out the material he needed.
@@eder7468 and the internet existed during all that time lol

Discover that Nujabes chopped a part of a song by brazilian artists in "Luv(sic) pt. 2" moved me a lot (I'm brazilian), this shows how he especially had such a sensibility in creating music. See through the editing of the video that he used parts of the same drum base was amazing too. I get emotional always when I play his songs. Thank you Tracklib. RIP Nujabes.

i don’t really think so, but nujabes is an incredible producer.

YES!!! I just saw this at the corner of my eye and almost screamed with joy.
jaw dropper moment for me. like seeing an old fren 💚💛❤️
good and evil ;)
This is the first time I’ve ever heard of Nujabes and can safely say I’m falling in love with it. It’s such a shame to hear what happened to them, but I’m happy to be experiencing such a creation. The music is something I’ve been chasing for forever now where it’s not quite Lofi and still has the deep lyricism from hip hop. Fly high Nujabes!
LoFi music would not exist without Nujabes. He is the forefather of the LoFi sound and a flag-bearer for jazz infused hip-hop, a true pioneer and inspiration for later producers that were influenced by him.
If you are into anime he made music for samurai champloo along with fat jon etc
@@ant7396 you had it right on the money with "jazz-influenced hip-hop", but not everything has to classify as lofi.
@@Atmospheral oh dude no way that’s awesome
Did you know Nujabes backwards is his real name? Seba Jun
I don’t know what Nujabes did, but I’ve never ever come close to the way his filter sounds on some samples like in Luv Sic pt. 3, and I’ve been trying for years now. And in a way I’m SO thankful for that, because every time I try, I learn something new. We miss you man
No one ever deserves to go the way Nujabes did, may he Rest In Peace 🙏
you might wanna change this to peace* :)

luv sic pt 3 will forever hold a special place in my heart. tbh i might even like pt1's beat better but pt 3 all together is just so fucking beautiful
Such a ballad bro
Same here, man. Reminds me of a special time in my life.

The word GENIUS isn't enough to describe this man
psss pss sAmuRai ChamploO!!!!
I was actually going to request for you to make a video on this and then I get a notification you’ve uploaded. Brilliant.
2:25 Pt 3 is the most beautiful beat ever made. Don't look at me, I just work here.
more Nujabes pls, his sampling (and music) changed my life
I found out about Nujabes in 2015 by watching Samurai Champloo. I was never a hip-hop guy but his music genuinely never gets boring.
I first found out about Nujabes through a friend, like 5 years ago. I was just a kid, his music didn't quite grow on me at the time.
At the beginning of the pandemic, I was finishing high school. Somehow, around march, it hit me. This artist, "what was his name, uhm... Nujabes?", had finally, after all these years, came back to my mind. I typed in "Nujabes" in the UA-cam search bar while doing some homework, and clicked on the first Nujabes Mix I saw. It blew my mind at the same time my soul enjoyed it. I found myself the rest of the day listening to that mix over and over. I fell in love with Battlecry, can't take it out of my mind to this day.
After that I actually, again, after all these years, texted this same friend that showed me Nujabes for the first time, who I had lost touch with. I said hello, asking if he remembered me, he said yes. I told him I was finally listening to Nujabes, and we chatted some while that evening about how superior Luv.(sic) hexalogy was. It was, and it is to this day, my favorite Nujabes record, and one of my favorite records of all time.
Today, he and I are good friends again, and I've had the chance to share more music, more memes, and more moments with him. Basically, all thanks to Seba Jun and his music. That's just one of the things I thank him for, and I wish I could have at least wrote him a letter telling him this story, and how much I admire him. He's done so much for the music industry, and our mental states, more than almost no one else has.
Rest in beats, Nujabes. Thank you for everything.
RIP Nujabes
omg
This was phenomenal. Would love to see pt. 4 - Grand Finale!
Part 6 is the only one that uses a sample past 4
Not this breakdown bringing me to tears
Some guy really said Shing02 ruins all the songs in the luv sic series. I’m in disbelief and the disrespect is crazy.
fr shing02 isn't even bad though, the songs are still bangers
It really hit in your feelings when you're brazillian and you see people literaly from the otherside of the world listening and enjoying our music. If wasn't this video, i would never have known that nujabes used samples of brazilian music on his works. (sorry if i wrote something wrong, my english is very bad)
The world lost something truly incredible when Jun passed. Let his name be remembered and honored forever in the annals of musical history.
the sample in pt 2 being looped over itself a step out of sync and eq'd is brilliant
You have no idea how happy this made me. Thank you ❤️
Nujabes changed my perspective in life, his music changed me as a person n he will continue to be my favorite aritist to ever exist. RIP seba jun🕊
I listened to a lot of songs during my first breakup, but Luv Sic was the only series of songs that felt like they were helping me heal, in a way.
RIP 🐐
didn't know he had sampled another song from brazilian singers, besides the lamp is low in aruarian dance. As a brazilian, this is very cool for me
me too
I swear every time part 2 hits, something about the atmosphere it creates makes me wanna cry, absolute fucking masterpiece.
I love this so much. Nujabes was a true master of sampling.
Ohhh yeeeah, I will never forget this classic jazzy sound , rest in peace Jun
connecting our souls resting in captivity
Something about part 3 maaaan... just puts me in a good mood
Luv(sic) pt.3 is so simple, yet its arguably one of if not my favorite song ever
I didn't know about nujabe and his beats until this video, and watching it really does inspire me to try more with my chopping skills, thanks Nujabe, wish I could've known about you before you passed, rest in beats homie.
Do one for "Can I kick it?"- A Tribe called Quest
Qtip is genius
this is the coolest thing ive ever seen, i never knew the amount of work goes into sampling, so this just gave me more appreciation. thanks so much for this
These songs mean so much to me. Hearing how they were created brings tears to my eyes. I love this.
Thank you for this.
Nujabes drum Programming is like DJ Premier. He even references some of his beats on Spiritual stone. Luv Sic sounded like a track off of Moment of Truth. His influence’s we’re Pete Rock, Q Tip, DJ Premier, J Dilla, and No I.D. to name a few. His favorite album was Common’s Resurrection. His favorite song was communism.
Indeed 👍 Thanks ❤
My favorite producer outside dilla and 9th wonder
I love this channel. The content is so original. The form behind it. I love it.
Never in my life did I expect tracklib to do _the_ legend
King of mood music!! R.I.P. Seba
Nujabes and j dilla be chopping samples in heaven
I can't thank you enough for putting this to light. Showing just how much of a genius Nujabes is and how he can turn anything into artwork
This is for me the most inspiring video on UA-cam, and has been so for years now. Thank you for uploading this. I aspire to reach this level of mastery.
i tried recreating part 1 in fl and it was a challenge all in of its own, it blows my mind all the techniques and sample knowledge this guy had, forever a legend in my books.
i know he most likely either used an mpc or dj set but that’s still hella incredible
I come back to this video so many times just to admire nujabes' genius - it inspires me so much to write songs, he is empirical evidence that music is a magical thing from another realm
Nujabes was one of my fav musician, I love how samples in his tracks combined into such a beautiful melodies
OMG TRACKLIB I LOVE YOU GUYS

This channel is amazing ngl
its crazy how one man can change my whole life. one of the reasons i want to make music for the rest of my life. luv(sic) 3 will be one of my favorite songs ever, its one of those songs that just holds u in a trance til the end. its songs like that, Peaceland, Aruarian dance, Lamp is low, etc, that highlights how much of a genius this man was. and all of this stuff that hes done has changed my life, after he was long gone off the earth. its crazy because he wouldnt even know how much he’s personally inspired me to do so much, thats what i call a fucking legacy. RIP NUJABES
This is my favorite video you have made

the luv sic series has brought me a little piece of heaven on earth. whenever i feel down i play them and i feel at peace when i cant find peace from within. thank you, Jun Seba
watching this gives off such a unique feeling, i smiled watching it all come together
I am just glad it is 2021 and new content specifically about luv sic series is made. Makes me feel less alone
Still crazy to think Nujabes and Mobb deep both used the same drum sample yet made such different songs
This is so beautiful it makes me cry
Its crazy because the beats for luv sic were just beats that nujabes was still making and then left in his phone, and yet one of them was some of the best instrumental ive heard from nujabes
It's insane how I thought it was the same beat in all three songs, when it's the same beat modified 3 different ways for each song. MindBoom
