Alyssa, the Beginner, here... and Wow! I am absolutely blown away by all the positive feedback. I just want to thank Parker, Jake and the team for allowing me this growing opportunity to participate in this Beginner vs. Pro shoot. Walking in, I was nervous and had no idea what to expect. Walking out, I was so nervous about the feedback I would receive. Thank you to each and every person who has commented feedback, critiques, and compliments. Congratulations! It’s truly inspiring. You have a great eye and natural instinct. It’s clear that you’ve had great references to soak up knowledge from. Well done!
I feel like Alyssa's video could pass for a TV commercial while Jake's video is perfect for social media which is exactly what the client want. Either ways, in the end Quality is subjective!
Both were good. My problem with Jake's is I've seen a lot of cheap/scam products that use that format (especially that opening AI voice). So although the production and everything was good, I felt skeptical about the validity of the product. Alyssa's had me more convinced this was a genuine quality product. Honestly both were good for respective platforms. Jake's for tiktok/UA-cam shorts/Instagram, Alyssa's for UA-cam and the like.
agreed- when it comes down to it I actually would consider buying from alyssa's ad, but was turned off by how disingenuous the robotic voice sounds and wouldn't buy from jake's. good job both though!
THIS. that tik tok voice and how the video was shot were automatically a turn off, because my brain almost adapted to skipping those bad reviews/ads from social media, and call the skeptics of it.
@Christopher Mitonides she knew what an F Stop was… what are you talking about? She told me to bring it down because she knew that a lower F stop meant more light. She just didn’t know where to see it on the RED since she had never used it before. Nobody’s lying to you buddy
We need more videos like this, showing how to interact with clients and what questions to ask when prepping for a product shoot. This is such valuable information.
Alyssa's video is undeniably good. She has a good understanding of the concepts, and little details like the slow motion water shot show this - this is something that needs to be planned at the time of filming because you need to adjust the shutter speed accordingly. I also think that from the perspective of editing and getting straight to the point and selling the product, Parker's video achieves this better. A great demonstration that both knowledge and experience are important.
2000 IQ play by the client, who used the competitive nature of the video's structure to pit these two into creating entirely different styles of video, specifically so he could use both of them for his various mediums. Two videos instead of one? That's what we call big brain! In all seriousness, this video is so valuable for so many reasons. Amazing work and I can't wait to see more content like this!
Honestly, when Jake said "Wow it actually works" and the look on the client's face... I was more sold on the product than anything else done in either ads. If that could have been in the ad, with something like a cut saying... "You bet your ass it works!" while sticking the product on the phone and waking out like a boss, might have pulled out my wallet right then and there.
I'm more impressed by Alyssas video tbh. She brought up that you can clean the screen cleaner itself and didn't use the same B-roll 3 times like Jake did :D Ofc the quality also helps.
I systematically prefer Alyssa's video over Jake's in this case, not because of the quality of the footage but also because it is more engaging and slick in my opinion.
Alyssa made a better video because if I see that on social media I will doubt it actually works, but Alyssa's video gave me confidence about the product and put the message very clearly. Jake video's message was not effective as hers.
Not even, I feel like most 16 year olds absolutely hate ads because growing up in a fast developing digital world, they have seen ads all thier lives and they tend to like ads only when it doesn't even feel like an ad
A video idea: Why not give the beginner top end gear (Like the Red Cameras), the intermediate a mid end gears (DSLRs) and the pros phones. It would be nice to see more competitors in the video.
Ok I need like a dozen waterbears!! I really liked Alyssa's video. Very clean cut, well lit and amazing. For social media the other shot is great too! So I think he needs both for different applications.

Almost wish you both created a more similar style ad and both shot in the same format, because at the moment it felt like Alyssa’s video was higher in production value, just due to the nature that you chose to shoot your ad, which felt like a value added cutdown for social. Personally I would’ve liked if the styles were both in the same ballpark, shot in landscape, just so it’s an actual comparable scenario. I would’ve also liked to see if the client went in blind, not knowing who shot which video, select the one he would use.
@@dieterrosswag933 I agree with you so much. It looked like it was done by a typical 15 year old girl with a circular selfie lamp. We could see tons on this in shorts. I would never pay a pro to deliver to me such a product. Alyssa’s was great though.
Very interesting to watch as usual!. Jake's video is very self-explanatory and cool for sure, BUT next time how about if you guys try not to tell the final judge who the PRO is and who the BEGINNER is (from the beginning). Since it was used for social media, it was better shot in portrait mode and not landscape mode. Both videos looked good, it’s helpful to show the practical use and ability of a product in a video.
It's quite funny because I have an opposite opinion. If I see a "candid" ad on social media, I immediately stop watching because it feels cheap and scammy but if I see a "landscape professional" ad, I stay engaged and watch the whole thing.
I would love to see this format of video but with a short film. Like having to create a script, and actors, and having to use your filmmaking to make the best short film.
As a advertising student I have to say that, I'm amazed. Both of the ads are amazing, you have made greate ads, both of you. For me Alyssa's add is amazing, but Jake made what the client wanted and that is the point. Alyssa didn't make and add that the client wanted which was a social media add. Her first step should be "recognising" what the devices are mainly used for those, and the answer to that are cell phones. So your work "surface" is a lot smaller becose it isn't a horizontal screen, but a vertical mainly, her add would be good for TV or UA-cam, if you would cropp it to fit for lets say TikTok you would loose a lot of footage.
Are the ads good? Yeah, they definitely are! I went from "Well, this thing is useless" to "Wow I want that! 🤩" just by watching these 2! Well done both of you!

Both of you make a fantastic infomercial video about the cleaning product. The first video is good to use on TV, UA-cam and Websites as advertisements that attract future buyers. The second video is perfect for any social media, which the client wants to recognize and to endorse.
Fun fact, that podcast room is actually in STUDIIO, which is owned by former FTF member Landon BTW, I was actually in the room during Landon’s workshop, it’s fantastic to see Landon is still involved after leaving
@@Gonzalia yes he actually told us, he wanted to pursue his own company, he also started losing interest in video even though he was good at it, he wanted to make his own content. Also he made a good living from FTF, but he doubled his profit when he opened his own company :)
It was a perfect show. Anyone who wants to get into this business has just learned a lot. As convincing as the approach is for social videos, I am not convinced of the product and would never buy it. Why? Every photographer and filmmaker learns in connection with lenses and other valuable optical surfaces: Always use cleaning kits that are NEVER left lying around exposed to dust and minute dirt particles. This will scratch your valuable lenses and surfaces. For sure.
As a marketer first and content creator second I have really appreciated how Jake focused the video. Most content creators produce art for customers which won't sell. But that's not the case of Jake's video. Simple video, powerful script and selling idea. Outstanding 😁
What showed really is what separates a PRO vs a good shooter. A pro understands his/her clients needs and can channel his creative direction to suit the clients' preferences and specific needs. While Alyssa may have outdone herself coz she was a beginner, it showed. We were all like this when we were still learning, just trying to get the best looking outputs as possible.
Ok, I have a couple of thoughts. First, I have 0 knowledge of making videos. However, I feel it's hard to compare these two because Alyssa looks more like you stated, a website or youtube video. More AD centric. Where as Parker is more for Instagram and TicToc. So they are two different approaches. I would have liked to have seen more of a side-by-side with the same stage, for lack of a better word. That being said, she killed it for not having a lot of experiences. Both of you guys did a great job, and your skills show for sure. Great video.
Great stuff. The best thing about this channel is that I learn something new every video!! Props to Alyssa for the amazing commercial for a beginner! 😊
- Gopro in studio vs. DSLR in adventure challenge. - Both participants can be beginners, pros, or Beginner vs. Pro. - Critics can be Parker for the Studio setup, and anyone with experience in vlogging outside for the Adventure setup.
Why don't try with Samsung or huawei phones instead? They do have the pro video mode (manual video mode) and could give you a beautiful natural focal length.....
Honestly I didn’t like Jake’s editing. Showing the same shot 6 times with the phone in the hand flipping, going straight to that shot at the beginning and then he repeats exactly the same shot with the screen dirty. And at the end Again closing with the same shot for third time…
Now the point here is that a client can himself shoot an ad with some friends or family members if he knows how easy a phone can can shoot. Probably with an easy quick video editor & watching 1-2 youtube tutorial will do the job for most people if they don't want to spend money hiring a filmmaker & editor.
Or it might be just me who now after 5yrs of experience thinks that making such videos are very easy for everyone in the world😅 But seeing bulk of videos on Instagram Reels daily makes me feel that even a 10yr old knows how videos are made & edited.

Dude! I liked Alyssa best! Crazy. I felt Jake’s was a little repetitive visually. But there were some tidbits I would take from Jake’s. Like the re-sticking of the cleaning pad. But as a viewer I would have left Jake’s add as soon as I heard the Siri voice at the beginning. I can’t stand the generic robot voice that EVERYONE uses. So not authentic. The next eject moment for me was the second he repeated a shot. So as a person being marketed to…. I would have left that video within 2 seconds. Alyssa’s video kept me stimulated through the end and it seemed to end so fast that I wanted more. I couldn’t wait for Jake’s video to end. Sorry Jake. I love your work. But this one was a miss for me.
Parker, I absolutely love your videos, I shot my first wedding video last weekend, and fortunately it went well thans to you and your team. I was wondering if you an make video about unhappy clients or any difficulties you faced with clients, and how you dealt with those situations, thank you😁
In all honesty, while iPhones are still far from matching the quality of cinema/mirrorless cameras, the 6:19 format honesty scares me as UA-cam is slowly dying. Im afraid soon many videographers are soon gonna have to (if not already starting to) aim for higher end clients who still see the value of good cameras; which will mean a harsher competitor market and less jobs.
Alyssa’s video appeals to niche market, second video appeals to mass consumers. Pretty sure you guys did this on purpose so the client could appeal to two markets. One video will be used for desktop applications and the other will be for their tik tok. Smart way to create interesting content guys!
I would change the beginner vs pro intro, to the next transition of we are back, followed with the b-roll. After the intros, rhen switch to the main shot. But that's just me. Great work!
Yeah, I don’t see that as an “hip ad” I see it as a scam product that’s not worth a second more of my time, especially with that terrible voice over voice.

I am learning so much from these! Amazing work!
Amazing content literally what I needed to get back into videography
wow... I feel enlightened here, thank you so much for educating about various aspects of videography. I really like your videos
Both the videos are great ....while Alyssa's video is perfect for TV commercial or UA-cam AD while Jake's video will do the marketing on Instagram and other social media perfectly 🙌💯👌
The LDS is strong in this one
I think they both looked good but the only issue i had with the iphone video was the reusing of the same cleaning the iphone shot
You raise good points tho
@@emilyesnyman thanks Emily
Sorry to say this but Alyssa's video was on top 😁😁
I love this series.
Jake alway best.
Pretty sure it's 9:16😉
6:19 really scares me too 😂😂
what makes you think youtube is dying?
Those types of videos are always great and always inspire me to learn more and more 😍
Alyssa’s video appeals to niche market, second video appeals to mass consumers. Pretty sure you guys did this on purpose so the client could appeal to two markets. One video will be used for desktop applications and the other will be for their tik tok. Smart way to create interesting content guys!
I would prefer jake ads, it’s really make me wanna buy one 😬
I would change the beginner vs pro intro, to the next transition of we are back, followed with the b-roll. After the intros, rhen switch to the main shot. But that's just me. Great work!
Love to watch your video, I learned many lessons from you guys. Thanks!
I was literally just searching your channel the other day for an iPhone 13 comparison video lol
We want this kind of videos from you guys
Those videos fit different purposes and were different styles, both executed well I think
Alyssa for the win 🎉🎉
This video itself is the ad. Quite clever if you ask me.
Big brain move there. Not only do you have an amazing video for FTF, you also convinced everyone who watched this to go buy a water bear😂
Why just why you dummies
Jake's video looks like the type of video they use for scams XD.
It just needed the "invented in the military "
hahaha totally agreed
Yeah, I don’t see that as an “hip ad” I see it as a scam product that’s not worth a second more of my time, especially with that terrible voice over voice.
Y’all should make more videos like this, plus adding the editing process
