At 3:47, the snapping options have changed. For Blender v3.3 onwards select "Face Nearest" then the "Snap to same target" checkbox.
Woah, I've actually been having trouble with this and you came in at the perfect time. Thank you sm!! :D
Thanks, I was wondering why Face wasn't just there anymore.
thank you i was just trying the tutorial today and it came in handy
Thx! This was the first roadblock in the tutorial for me
Is this messing with the extrude part?
I googled Donut icing images and at least half of them were 3D renders done by people learning from your tutorials. That's kind of amazing.
same lol

How do you know it was his tutorials they had learned from?

Around 25-37% of people that tried the first tutorial made it to this section alone... from here on out it only gets harder. This is my second time doing the tutorial. It may get difficult, but the journey is so fun and the end result is worth it. Remember, this isn't just how to make a donut: this is a tutorial that teaches you all the core concepts of blender. Only 8.75% made it to the end tutorial, and with enough determination you will be one of them. I wish you the best of luck modelers. o7.
please can you tell how you did snapping part

can u tell me how to get the " shortcut VUr " ?
For the past 6 hours of trying, I finally made it to this point. If something went wrong I just start all over again, until I get the hang of it without actually looking at the video and it worked out really well in terms of familiarizing myself with the tools and shortcuts. Hope I make it to the end of this playlist :')

I messed up the icing in this so I just went back to video 2
Dude, the fact you actually go back and redo your old tutorials in new versions is actually super cool and appreciated.
I literally just finished the old tutorial a week ago and was kinda bumbed since not 3.0
BUT THEN YOU DELIVERED IMMEDIATELY!
Thank you dude, you da GOAT
You’re welcome :)
Dude I was in the exact same boat. I was so amped when I saw the premier. Cannot wait to see the rest.

Have you noticed any struggles going from 2.8 to 3.0? Going from 2.79 to 2.8 was huge but 2.9 and 3.0 didn't really feel like a big change. Am I missing something or are all the steps pretty much the same so far?
@@pismodude2 ya when I followed along the old tutorial on 3.1 I just had the different UI to deal with and there are a few more options here and there to navigate that made me feel like I was in the wrong menu. Cycles rendering all at once instead of by squares also tripped me up. I thought I had my GPU setting set incorrectly but it was smoooooth sailing for the most part. He did mention how geometry nodes could eliminate the sprinkle meshes from crashing into each other and that was something I really wanted to learn after but then this tutorial revamp came out so I am really excited to see if it is mentioned here so I can compare the old workflow to the new workflow 1:1
0:59 - hide the solidify modifier (to see the vertices and faces of the icing in editing mode)
1:24 - move the vertices down, with proportional editing turning on
1:52 - problems
2:18 / 3:44 - snap to the face (magnet)
4:10 - project individual elements (everything in proportional editing circle area will also snap)
4:52 - believe him, he made millions of donuts before
5:28 / 5:52 - split the window
6:25 - image editor
7:26 - apply sub-surf modifier
8:16 - hide and unhide object (hide: H; unhide: ALT+H)
9:43 - add back sub-surf modifier (get the smooth edge)
9:51 / 10:06 - extrude (hotkey: E)
(extrude = add extra face. Select two or more vertices first, extrude, move and left click to confirm, right click to cancel)
14:20 - working on donut (apply sub-surf modifier)
14:39 - edge loop (hotkey: ALT + left click) , to select a ring of vertices
Meanwhile, O is hotkey for proportional editing, turn it on; and turn snapping off
15:18 - shrink wrap modifier
16:38 - ALT+S: shrink / flatten (vertices moving along normal, review tutorial Part2 at 17:51)
Every cooll
Thank you for doing this. I must admit that sometimes I either get lost or mess something up so bad that I have to back track. putting these chapter markers helps so much.
Thanks this is super helpful!

3:47 I think that depending on how much you edited your Donut vertices at the end of Part 2 you have to increase your thickness accordingly otherwise the icing mesh will just go inside the donut. I was nearly giving up because the meshes weren't snapping no matter what. What worked for me after 2 hours was selecting "Face Nearest" with everything unchecked but "include non-edited" and "snap to the same target", and then increasing the thickness of the solidify modifier.
You´re a life saver, I was almost about to give up, thanks!!!!
Huge lifesaver indeed. Thanks!
Holy shit thank you
THANK YOOOOOOUUUU!!!!!!!!!!!! I was about to give up on this myself but Turning up the thickness in the solidify modifier worked perfectly.
Bruh I was about to walk out.... I pushed this thing like a day late....
for those at 14:52 wondering how he radially shrinks the ring, it's through scale (press S on keyboard)
Thank you!
Thanks!!!
thanks king 👑
OMG thank you
Throwing another thank you on to the pile!
Just so you know, at 14:46 he just selected to vertices by tapping shift and the two vertices and then he pressed S to scale down the two vertices which kind of “narrowed” down that part of the dribbly bit of the icing in case anyone was stuck there.
That was the one part I couldn't figure out, thanks for this!
thanks a lot, thought i was going crazy
after watching the latest blender guru's series (donut part 4) I was very confused about a few things.. like at 3:55 he says "the point is snapping to the face but, this point is not".. I didn't really understand what he meant and then project individual element feature.. so plz help me with that part..
Thank god for you! Was so stuck.
your a legend bro
If your are stuck at 14:55, this might help
Click the torus (not the icing) then toggle to x-ray mode with ‘Alt z’( so that you can see across the torus. Then press ‘alt + left click’ on a single Vertix across the horizontal plane of interest. If you do that correctly, you should have highlighted a single chain vertices across the torus. When you get that done, ‘press alt + s’ to scale as you want.
thanks so much I was forgetting how to do the scaling.
Thank you so much 😭😭😭😭 I was about to quit because I was stuck here.... really Thanks alot 🙏🙏
TYSM!
Thank you Thank you Thank you Thank you Thank you !!
Thank you!
At 8:30 if you have the icing mesh clipping through the donut mesh after subdividing, make sure you have the icing mesh selected in the scene collection and in edit mode press A to select all the vertices, press G to grab them, and as soon as you do you’ll see the entire icing mesh snap to the donut surface correctly. Press ENTER. Make sure you don’t move your mouse after pressing G to grab. Just hit ENTER right after. Worked for me. I’m on Blender 3.5 by the way.
thx dude i was having this issue and this solve it. much love
Oh, thank you so much
👍
Didnt work for me . After pressing G all the vertices change their places in a way that the view stands the same but if I change my view angle I find that everything is messed up
Any solution ?
You are my fucking hero m8!
I was trying to solve it for like 20 minutes.
Thanks!
@@ish2153 Yeah same here they all got skewed to one side when I rotate around to check the other side
*NOTE:* For everyone struggling to find the same set of snapping options as at 4:22, I've found a solution:
In the "Snap To" menu, you should see 2 options, namely: "Face Nearest" and "Face Project".
Shift+Click on both of these, and you will now see the "Project Individual Elements" option as well, as opposed to only selecting "Face Nearest".
Project Individual elements will allow all vertices in the Proportional Falloff circle will snap to the Donut faces underneath.
P. S. Despite all of this, you may notice the Icing faces still overlapping with the Donut faces, it's fine as long as your vertices are still snapping, because when you re-enable the Solidify modifier for your viewport and go back to "Object Mode", you will see that the icing still looks like it's properly resting atop the Donut top.
Not all heroes wear a cape, thanks man, finally it worked.
But it doesn't work with extruding 🥲 has anybody figured it out?
Thanks man it work 👍, also for those who also try the methods from other comments above, on Target Selection please also check "include active, include edited, include Non-Edited"
@@dimarch6316 Hi. I fixed mine. When you select all the little dots of your icing and subdivide it in edit mode and then try to pull it. I was looking for a solution a long time and this worked the best for me.
what are face nearest and face project functions and where can I add them in ?
Around 12:00 If your extrusion drips are squared off at the bottom, you didn't add back a subdivision modifier. Also hit S after extruding and shrink (scale) the end to make it more rounded "drip" like.
To select multiple vertices hold shift then Left Click on more than one or drag selection box.
At 14:50 he's hitting alt and clicking on an outer ring of the dougnut to select all the way around it. Then adjusting his proportional editing using mouse wheel to affect the proper amount from top to bottom. Then S to scale it inwards all the way around by moving mouse. Then left click to finish.
Wonderful thanks
Very helpful! I got stock here for so long. Thanks!
I got stuck at 14:50 but you helped, thank you :D
big thanks from me cause I have been suffering from these squared-off drips for about 4 to 5 days. I'm really thankful to you.
still not exactly sure what to do to fix the squared off tips. help?
Your UA-cam Donut series is better than many paid beginner courses. I bought two different "beginner" courses on Udemy, and they skipped a lot of things. Your Donut series allowed me to actually really understand the little things, that many other "beginner" courses gloss over. Thank you so much!
For anyone watching as recently as me, the 3.6 version of blender is slightly different when it comes to snapping to Face like he does at 4:44 ish. On the version he uses in the video there is only one option for Face and in the 3.6 version there is Face Project and Face Nearest. I'm no expert, so i have no clue what the difference is, but i got my snapping to work how his did in the tutorial by shift selecting both Face Nearest and Face Project and checking the boxes for Project Individual Elements and Snap to Same Target. I just needed to do some minor adjusting of the shape of the donut under the icing to fix some minor clipping that this didn't avoid, but this method was the closest i could figure out to what he did. Let me know if there's a more correct r exact way to stop all that clipping in the 3.6 version!!
ADDING: ive seen several others also suggest checking that your icing is thick enough in the Solidify Modifier after setting up the Snap Tool like i did, so though id add that here!
thanks so much for letting everybody know I was trying to figure it out and this fixed it
Thank you, thank you so much for this advice - wonderful help!@@aliceinyoutubeland5436
this helped alot thanks!
thank you!! this was my question exactly
For anyone having the clipping issue with the icing (even with project individual elements) The workaround I've found is making the icing thicker within the solidify panel i'm not sure if that's what's causing it but it has gotten rid of the clipping effect. I hope this helps!
Also make sure your offset in Solidify is set to 1.0!!!
For me just grabing the vertices and pressing G then moving them up along the z axis in the dip worked well for me to pull them out and get rid of the weird spots.
In my case I also turned on 'Backface culling' in the snap menu which seemed to eliminate some of the clipping. Not sure how that's related but it seemed to help.
Try using extrude rather than G, it just work fine for me, I watching previous donut tutorial
wow thank you so much! It worked!
If the Alt+Left Click to select Edge Loop didn't work for you at 14:39, you can just double click on the edge in between two vertices and it will select Edge Loop. (v3.2.2) :)
Thank you so much.
how? I get stuck.. do not select anything..
Yes, that is how I did it as well.
Thank you
thanks mate. big help
Thank you so much for making these in-depth tutorials. The community really finds them beneficial and you are just an excellent person for making these videos. Keep up the great work!
For anyone stuck at 15:30 because the shrink wrap modifier clips the icing through the donut even after prioritizing it in the modifier stack, here’s the settings that worked for me:
Wrap method: Target Normal Project
Snap Mode: Outside
Target: Donut
Hopefully I’m not leading anyone astray down the line. This seemingly achieved the same result though. (V3.4.1)
not working in blender 3.5.1

4:25 I had a problem here: Even tho i had Project Individual Elements checked, the icing mesh was still goin through the donut mesh

a) Increase thickness of the icing's solidify
b)upon moving the icing vertex and pressing g to move it, theres a hotkey option to Snap Toggle being Shift-Tab. This diables the magnet tool.

Thank you so much! Was scratching my head for 20 minutes on this one.
after doing the first 3 parts and getting halfway through this one pretty late at night, i decided to go to bed. while pulling my blanket over me i suddenly realized that the same method you teach us to make the icing could also be used as a first set of steps in making clothing for character models! i had the whole lightbulb moment where all the pieces just fit together. i am glad i took the advice of your seminar on how to improve as an artist because if i had just kept powering through instead of taking a break i might not have made that connection for later! i am nowhere near making character models (yet!) but when i get there i already know how to start the clothes. and it is all thanks you and your donuts! XD thanks Blender Guru!
This is as far as I've seen from other tutorials a very common way to do clothes on models. Just select, duplicate, scale, solidify
@@weakamna i figured that lol. i was pointing out that his tutorials teach us the tools well enough to not have to be told that in another tutorial. he teaches us enough about the tools to have these ideas ourselves. which makes him a good teacher. :)

Quick Tip for Anyone stuck at EXTRUDE at 10:12. I had "Face Nearest" set for my snapping and every time I tried to extrude the mesh would kind of fold in on itself instead of travel down the side of the donut. I switched snapping to "Face Project" and extrude worked exactly like you see in the video. If there's anyone out there that can explain the differences Face Project and Face Nearest, that'd be great. Always good to understand the intent of an option so you know how to apply it.

I didnt finish the first donut tutorial too long ago, it was about a month ago and then I did my own project of a brownie to see what I could do. I also had 2 other failed attempts at completing the donut tutorial a few years back. But now I can watch these to make sure i actually remember everything I should and learn how Blender 3 is different. You are so legendary for delivering these so quickly.
For those having trouble to see 'Face' option at 4:13 (it must be something about the version and I had the same) I would recommend you to select 'Face Nearest' and then toggle 'Snap to Same Target'.

I've used Maya and loved it! But as someone who's no longer doing this professionally, Blender is amazing and has come such a long way since first time i tried it (like 10yrs ago). For a non-professional just looking to create personal stuff, Blender is just the thing i was looking for! I miss working in Maya and Zbrush, and this is kind of the best of both worlds, but FREE! Love it.
Trying 3d modelling again after a few years break. Glad to see you are still doing great tutorials!
u have made The Donut the "hello world" of blender. Thank you for the wonderful tutorial and constant update.
If you have a second monitor you can create an extra window with Shift + dragging from the little spot. Took me a while to find out but helps a lot if you have multiple monitors
Holy moly, this is so powerful! Im glad i read the comment section :D
For everyone that has tried to fix the clipping, check your scale for the donut and icing and thickness. Make sure your scale is at 1. I thought mine was at 1 and it was clipping and then i noticed my scaling was off. So change them to 1 and click the little locks next to them so they dont go back. Hope this helps
thank you everyone in the comments for helping
baker's note: doughnut batter is buoyant in oil, so after frying both sides, what you see in the middle is batter that didn't form a crust becuase it wasn't submerged in oil. happy blending! (:
You might not see this, but i am speaking from the bottom of my heart.
When i was in Uni a couple of years ago, i always thought i wanted to do 3D. It was such wishful thinking, that i was actually not prepared to experience the full processes of getting into 3D. Meshes, Textures, UV unwrapping. I had to use Maya, which was sort of a struggling experience for me (Don't get me wrong, Maya can be good!).
Also chalked up to the fact that for some reason, i don't 'Get' things right away until much later. Because of Maya, I actually still struggle trying to understand UV unwrapping, which sadly, is something i should have picked up on. Then they made us use the older version of Blender. Which actually made me turn off from the program as a whole.
So when i had to take 3d animation classes for the second time, i decided to try brave myself and out Blender. And the first thing that comes up as a beginner Tutorial? It was your first Donut Tutorial. It did take a while for me to get used to it. But one day, suddenly it all clicked for me. I don't know how, but i was able to model various things, and the concept of Texture painting was MUCH more fun than with my experience in Maya!
I am still learning more on how to get better. But i was able to use Blender to create backgrounds for a Manga project i had to work on in my last Semester. And now? I'll be graduating soon!
Sorry for the super long post. But i just thought i should share you my journey. There was something about your tutorials that seriously pulled me in, wanting to learn more. So Thank you Blender Guru! You made me to not completely give up 3D modelling!

Going through this tutorial right now. I was expecting it to be overwhelming (which it is to a degree) but I have to say, you have a really fantastic way of explaining things and making it easy enough to follow along. I have NEVER used Blender before starting your tutorial because I was intimidated by the idea of 3D modeling even though it was something I always wanted to try.
Thank you for this awesome tutorial and actually motivating me to push through my anxiety and pursue working in Blender!

Thanks bro you are life saver!
I like how at this point the donut modeling art is so mapped out that we've got a "how it's made" style video demonstrating how the donut got a ring around it. Well done!
(Blender 3.04) 10:00 That part is tricky for newer user of blender like me so let me explain... Before creating new vertices go to snap (Magnet) then deselect move and select Scale. Once your vertices are created you'll notice that your mesh didn't snap with the lower part of the donut... To make it snap to the lower part simply go to snap (magnet) deselect scale and select Move. Once this is done click on one of your vertices you just created and press "G" to automatically snap it !
Please, don't give up like I did many time, take blender as an odd video-game instead.
I hoped that help Blender Guru and viewers !

This was unbelievably simple for a first-time learner! Thank you. I wasn't gonna try to learn Blender but you released a new (third series) on the donut. The steps couldn't be clearer.
hi!!! I'm a student studying design by my own self from Korea. I've really wanted to appreciate that you prepare for these amazing tutorial video!! It's so helpful for someone who are interested in blender tools and trying out like me! :ㅇ i know that a decision to share your know-how and skills would be hesitated and difficult thing, but thank you that you decide to share your wonderful gift!! I'll keep practicing and enlarge my skill by getting an enthusiasm and motivation by you. THANK YOU AGAIN :)
I'm recovering from surgery and have a lot of free time to spend in bed:( I have decided to learn something new and this is being the literal icing on the cake :) been here all morning and I won't give up until the sprinkles are on. thank you for sharing your knowledge !
The congratulating on not giving up acutally makes me happy
Especially since that is not my first time around, not giving up!!
At 14:40 for Mac users it's double clicking a point to select the outer ring of the donut. Thanks Andrew for all the material you create and all the whole blender community for being so wonderful humans!
Big Big Thanks!!! I almost gave up due to this issue 😂
double clicking does absolutely nothing for me and i can't figure it out through googling!😢
THANK YOU!!!

For those still struggling with icing clipping inside the donut instead of wrapping. I found that my results were much better after applying the original subdivision modifier and adding then adding a new one, as done a little later in the video.
So first time I'm getting into any kind of software like this and these videos are great, usually I find it difficult to pay attention to things never mind following along but these videos are great and I seem to be getting the hang of things really fast watching your videos
Reference is one of those universal truths. I'm an audio engineer and it is absolutely essential to reference other tracks when mixing and mastering. You see it everywhere in creative spheres. Reference, reference, reference!
Here's what worked for me in this order:
face nearest
include non edited
snap to same target
under the affect bar select move.
after you have moved your icing where you want it, turn on the solidify modifier again and should of worked.
PS: These were not by me but some other guy whose comment is very obscure and it works. Thx @Swifty
What about if my icing snaps to the inside of the donut? I can't seem to fix that
Edit: oh if the actual advice isn't from you then nevermind but thanks anyways this helped me a lot to fix the snapping but then it only made it snap to the inside of the donut
Thx man
Nice! thank you and the other dude!
although for some reason after i used extrude my icing was snapping to x or y axis, so i pressed middle mouse button couple times and its fixed
@@abdel2894 could you fix that??
@@TatataG I couldn't sorry
15:20 If the shrinkwrap "failed adding value" make sure you used it for the icing and not for the donut. The two mesh have their own modifier handling (top right you can switch cam, donut, icing and light) you have to switch to icing and then use the shrinkwrap.
It's kinda obvious, but I had a problem with it, took some minutes to figure it out.
Have a nice journey!
THANKYOU, I ALSO GO STUCK HERE😃
My hero of the day! I was thinking "what the hell am I doing wrong??" I'm in Object Mode, clicked on the icing, etc...
This fixed it, thank you so much!
You're a lifesaver
Thank you, you saved my precious time!
What do we do if the icing mesh is clipping though the donut after adding the shrink wrap modifier?
Very helpful, thanks.
Blender 3.6 here. For the dripping, it worked for me with 0.001 thickness, snap set on "Face Nearest" plus checked "Project Individual Elements" and "Snap to same target" boxes. Hope it helps!

actually, i'm an ex Maya user and switching over to Blender was the best thing I've ever done
i could write a 50 page paragraph on why I hate Maya and how Blender is better in every possible way, don't worry about it
This is magnificent to hear
How could you cheat on maya?
completely agree, still have to use maya at work mainly because the skeleton seems to be quite different from blender. Do you know about any tutorial that would help me with this?
I'm in the same boat, I learned Maya because of art school and Have switched to Blender recently. Never looking back!
@@asr59 There's a course on Udemy by Riven Phoenix (no relation, I assume, to River Phoenix) called "Blender Character Rigging For Beginners HD". He's a really great teacher, and the videos go step-by-step on how to set up a complete, detailed skeleton for a human model, including Inverse Kinematics. Once you go through that course you'll know everything there is to know about rigging in Blender.
The only thing I would caution you on is that the tutorials are in an older version of Blender, and a few things have changed between that version and 3.0 (mostly involving, I think, the use of "layers"), but it should be pretty easy to figure that stuff out.
Your tutorials are the BEST for beginners like me thank you!
I managed to do it!
I struggled with the different shortcuts, but the comments helped a lot, thanks!
If anyone is having trouble with the snaping part, check if in the snap options at the bottom is marked Affect: Move. I know it's a simple thing, but I was having trouble with snaping for about 1 hour and now it's solved!
What the heck. I've been struggling for 20min to get it to work. Tried a bunch of different tips from commenters and this is the one that worked. Thanks!!
6 Days to be exact until now TT
To reverse applied sub-division modifier, can use decimate modifier (reduce by the same factor as you subdivided).
if this method did not work a better way to do it is at the top -> select edge option menu-> select xray mode at top left -> select the entire donut -> select unsub-divide. Cheers.
OMG! This is a nice challenge for the brain 😂 the more I go through this tutorial the more patient I become. Thank you for this series!
Makes me so happy watching this guy
Congratulations to everyone nice work😍
For those stuck in the EXTRUSION part. I spent like two hours of frustration, I extruded and the edge and it was overlapping, it also did not let me pull the edge downwards. I believe there is a bug but if you toggle on/off the "grab" (G key-shortcut) and make the size smaller or larger it fix the problem and the extrusion becomes "unstuck".. also switching between edit and object mode seems to help. I also have the "face project and face nearest" selected (use shift so select both options).
for me pressing E, than CTRL and dragging worked
@@hannamarin1234 i tried and it works as well however for me it stops being stuck to the actual donut. did you have similar issues?
@@deunin i do, i ll try to fix it and tell you
@@deunin i found it, you just click on the lowest dot of the droplet you made, like the last one, and then you go to the proportional editing falloff and you click on inverse square, then you click g on the dot you clicked and voila, it fixes itself for some odd reason...took me while to find out about this, since no one made a video on it, so I hope it helps you :)
Guys...if you icing is coming out whacky and intersecting with original donut...increase the thickness of icing in solidify property under modifier properties. Make sure it's thick enough so no part intersects with original donut
Hi, i just downloaded Blender and your videos are really usefull for me, your style of explaning seems comfortable! Thanks, Keep up the good work
IF YOU'RE NOT ABLE TO EXTRUDE
switch, in the snapping menu, "move" to "scale" in the "affect" section and create your drooly bits. you might have to delete or undo some of the vertecies you accidentally created
IF YOUR DROOLY BITS ARE NOT SNAPPING PROPERLY TO THE DONUT
switch back the "affect" section to "move" and, after selecting the drooly bits, press "G" (vertex slide) and they will snap to the donut
hope this helps :D
thanks a lot, it was very helpful
thank you! 🙏
I was stuck at that point, thank you very much man
do you mean have both scale and move selected or just scale?
@@flyingbasstv Just scale, having move will not work
Just finished this part, super excited for the next one!
Pro tip! To make the 'seam' of the donut @ 14:50 look more realistic, add a loop cut above and below the edge loop you're scaling in. Play around with location of the loop cut and how far you scale the edge loop in.
How did he select the center of the donut to push it in. He doesn't mention how he did that and just poof his was selected. I watched it like 10 times.
@@gaylekakac313 Are you on a Mac? I have seen other comments that helped me on my Mac. Option and double click to select a ring of vertices around the donut all at once which itself is a little tricky because you need to click on an empty space between vertices and often will grab a vertical band instead of a horizontal ring around the donut (maybe that happens after this in the tutorial- I haven't finished lol). Then you need to click S for scale which should then allow you to scale down that center ring to create that band- I think having another subdivision there would be good for me because I either get the shrunk ring above or below the middle but not on it. It is pretty confusing and I am not sure why pressing O was mentioned and it took me reading a bunch of different comments to come to this answer.
Really need to make an updated version of this. I've wasted hours trying the 100+ different fixes in the comments to the icing clipping issue with no success.
I love love LOVE your teaching style. Thank you so much for taking the time to make such a comprehensive tutorial series that is newbie friendly.
I have rewatched the first 4 parts over 5 times, following everything you do except not using metric so I'm using my own imperial values, when I get to shrinkwrap modifier my donut shape clips through my icing in random places. Not sure how to fix and there has to be a better way than manually selecting and moving every vertex I need to smooth out. This is a very challenging program to learn with no prior experience.
Thank for the motivational speech in the introduction 😁 and thx for the playlist. Very helpful and easy to follow 👍
Ironically, the video you mention not giving up has been the video I constantly give up on. I hope I can stick around for the third time!
Your tutorials are a godsend! Been having a lot of fun following them =D
Funny thing is I actually use to work in a bakery that made donuts. Can confirm... we would put the donuts in (without machines) - let them cook one one side, then use wooden sticks to rotate them to the other side. This leaves the middle part not cooked as much as the other two sides
To edge loop around the donut it’s not ALT+ Left Click anymore. Just double click the line in the middle of the vertices, also when he puts indent in the middle of the donut, he’s not grabbing he’s scaling (S) after turning on proportion edit port portion size (0.008) which was never advised.
SHIFT+ALT+Left Click seems to work for horizontal (3.6)
At around 4:00 everyone seems to be having this snapping problem, and I did too. I tried to fix it with literally anything I could think of, before I gave up and decided having a wonky donut is fine. Then, miraculously, I went to start doing the icing, and it worked totally fine. IT WAS PROPORTIONAL EDITING THE WHOLE TIME!!! I have no idea why this worked, but it did. Idk if it'll work for anyone reading this but it's worth a shot.
(I'm using 3.4.1 if anyone is curious, also the snapping settings I have on are face project, include non-edited, snap to same target, and affect move.)
Oh noice but Wdym with the Proportional editing that you said btw?
@@Erebus_official That was a month ago so I don't quite remember haha. Maybe try switching proportional editing on/off and see which one works?
Thanks for the great tutorials! I'm an oil painter who likes sculpting and am loving the complicatedness of this art form. I also love certain computer games, so this is like a computer game that results in some nifty art. I've been wanting a donut ever since the first lesson which is the only tiny downside to the tutorials, hahahahaha!
Lol
Video production tip to those making tutorials in Blender 3.0.0:
The new default theme introduces a vignette effect to the background of the 3D viewport. Blender uses dithering to smooth out the color banding; however, video compression eliminates the dithering, and thus, the color banding returns. You may wish to disable this option, if you don't like how it looks in your videos for UA-cam.
Preferences -> Themes -> 3D Viewport -> Theme Space (way at the bottom) -> Gradient Colors -> Background Type : set to Single Color
(On a separate note, some users have complained that the dithering of the vignette leads to flickering on their display. Those users should also disable this feature.)
nicee
I have also noticed the vignette thing and it's a bit annoying. Tnx for sharing how to eliminate it
after watching the latest blender guru's series (donut part 4) I was very confused about a few things.. like at 3:55 he says "the point is snapping to the face but, this point is not".. I didn't really understand what he meant and then project individual element feature.. so plz help me with that part..
I can reccomend making short key tags on your keyboard using tape to write on. I use freezer tape but I think masking tape or other types might work
I am loving this! Thank you so much. It is easy to follow and informative.
If, like me, you are struggling for hours to understand why ALT+Lelf Mouse to make the radial selection won't work. 14:40. It's because you selected the "Emulate 3 Button Mouse" option in the first video, so ALT now behaves like the middle mouse button. Double-Click the edge instead. Simples!
For anyone noticing a clipping issue even after clicking the snap tool I found that I needed to leave the solidify modifier set to -1 instead of 1 not sure why this would be the case but I hope it helps.
Ran into a few other issue and decided to start over. I reset the settings to the default settings and that fixed the offset issue… I am not sure how I changed that but apparently I did.
thxu so much this helped me alot!
I noticed a clipping issue and realized that I didn't have it sized correctly. I was sizing through the initial "Add Taurus" menu with the major/minor radius values. This made the overall size too large, so when I added the solidify modifier at .002 m thick, it was clipping. I scaled it to around .1 m on the x and y axes instead using the instructions a few videos back (press N) and that resolved most of the clipping issues. Just tossing that out there in case I'm not the only one who's restarted this about 10 times and forgot that one step.
been lookng for a solution for past 1 hour THANK YOU !
Thanks, that helped alot
8:32 It would be good to note how to report bugs like the one you saw for others to learn how to report bugs. Presumably you would want to undo the apply, then save the file. Close and re-open Blender and re-open the file and see if the apply reproduces the same bug, and if so, upload that file and reproduction steps as a bug report.
i did reopen blender and then open the file and it fixed the bug for me
