Hi, great video, I have followed the steps and have made everything work fine, I still have the dull lighting though, I am using 4.2, I cannot see the sunlight like in your clip?, I remember removing the light in the early steps, did I miss putting in back or is that not correct?

Just came here after finishing the Donut tutorial. Donut was great, I got to make something pretty, but I don't feel like I retained a lot of the concepts. I went away and tried to apply what I learned there to make a cupcake, and did OK, but not as good as when I followed the video step by step.
I feel like you really helped in reinforcing and retaining the basic concepts and core skills. I like how you tell us to not just follow you, but to listen, then repeat. I'd recommend people come here first before going to Donut. Looking forward to the next part.

You're an excellent teacher. I've watched quite a few tutorials on various specific skills, and while they almost always walk you through the process, they rarely give an explanation of WHY you do particular things. If something goes wrong and a glitch gets introduced into my project, I don't know how to fix it because I don't know why I was doing what I was doing. Your emphasis on clear explanation and developing specific muscle memory skills helped SO MUCH. I hope this tutorial series blows up because the work and skill and patience you put into it is unmatched. Thank you for this.

    Blender Tools and Navigation:
💡 The three most important objects in Blender for beginners are the default Cube, the camera, and the light, which are essential for creating 3D models and animations.
🔵 The rotation tool allows users to easily rotate objects by clicking and dragging on the red, green, and blue handles.
🌍 Learning how to move around in the 3D viewport using navigation controls, such as the orbit tool using the middle mouse button, is essential for 3D modelling.
🔄 Blender's frame selection tool allows for precise orbiting around a specific object, enhancing the user experience and making navigation more efficient.
🎮 Practicing the three-step process of orbiting, selecting, and framing objects will help users navigate their scenes quickly and efficiently, improving their overall workflow.
🧲 The snapping tool in Blender allows us to easily line up objects and make our lives way easier when creating scenes.
🛠 Modifiers in Blender are like tools that can be added to objects with a permanent undo button, making them non-destructive to the scene.
🎬 The goal is to turn the scene into a rigid body simulation, making everything animate, which will be the biggest and most challenging chapter yet.
    Visual Customization and Effects:
🎨 The Shader editor in Blender is an important tool for customizing and fine-tuning the appearance of objects in the 3D view.
💎 Adding reflectivity and material properties can make objects in Blender look like glass or metal, enhancing the visual appeal of the 3D models.
💡 Using ambient occlusion and bloom can transform a flat scene into a more cinematic one, adding depth and visual interest.
TLDR: Learning the essential tools and techniques in Blender, such as navigation controls, modifiers, and shader editing, is crucial for creating high-quality 3D models and animations.
    1. 00:00 🎬 Learn the most important objects and tools in Blender 4.0, including the default Cube, camera, and light, to build confidence and skills as a beginner.
1.1 Learn the three most important objects in Blender - the default Cube, camera, and light - to build confidence and skills as a beginner.
1.2 To fix the small user interface in Blender, go to preferences, set the resolution scale to 1.25, and start using the three most important tools in the toolbar.
1.3 The most important tools in Blender 4.0 for beginners are move, rotate, and scale, which can be activated by clicking on the corresponding handles to manipulate objects.
1.4 Learn how to use the white handle for uniform scaling and navigate the 3D viewport using a three-button mouse or trackpad.
1.5 The orbit tool in Blender allows you to circle around a specific object by using the frame selection tool to select the object and then using the middle mouse button to orbit around it.
1.6 Zoom in and out with the middle mouse button, pan left and right with the shift and middle mouse button, and use the NB to Pro navigation exercise to build up skills.
    2. 06:02 🎨 Practice orbiting, selecting, and framing objects in Blender, enable trackpad controls and use shortcuts to navigate, use the snapping tool for easy object alignment, and duplicate and align cubes using the move tool and pan navigation.
2.1 Build muscle memory by practicing the three steps of orbiting, selecting, and framing objects in Blender to navigate quickly and efficiently.
2.2 Enable trackpad controls, use shortcuts to navigate around the scene, and reset the scene to start creating a Minecraft pillar.
2.3 The snapping tool in Blender allows for easy object alignment and makes creating a Minecraft scene easier, after activating the snapping mode, the move tool will snap objects incrementally as they are moved.
2.4 Watch the demonstration of duplicating a cube, then use the move tool to align the two cubes using the snapping tool, and note that the duplicate objects button won't be used in this tutorial.
2.5 Select the default cube, copy and paste objects, use hotkeys for faster duplication, and use the pan navigation tool to move around.
2.6 Select and manipulate objects in the object properties panel to scale and duplicate cubes in Blender.
    3. 11:48 🎬 Learn how to delete, duplicate, and move objects in Blender, use box drag selection, struggle with navigation controls, and switch to the shading tab for a fully rendered world.
3.1 In this chapter, we will learn how to delete objects, including the camera and light, and then move on to multi-select and duplicate objects.
3.2 Learn how to use the multi-selection tool in Blender to duplicate and move objects, and then learn how to do box drag selection.
3.3 Use box drag selection to easily select and copy multiple objects, and move copied objects outside the scene to make selection easier, then use the view frame selected tool for navigation.
3.4 Duplicate and move pillars and cubes, select all, continue duplicating, struggle with navigation controls, and use box drag selection to duplicate side pillars.
3.5 Duplicate and move objects, take your time, learn about the shading tab, and keep going in the video for more tips on creating a 3D world.
3.6 Switch to the shading tab in Blender to go from a default gray flat world to a fully rendered and colourized world, using the top and bottom panels to navigate the 3D view.
    4. 18:05 🎨 Customize lighting and add colour/material properties in Blender using the Shader editor, import image textures, and organize/connect nodes for a final textured pillar.
4.1 Customize lighting in Blender by accessing the viewport shading menu and selecting a lighting preset, then get to know the Shader editor in the bottom panel.
4.2 Add color and material properties to objects in Blender, make sure to have a single selection, and use the Shader editor navigation controls to navigate and zoom.
4.3 Adjust the base color using the color wheel, make a selection, and link materials to all objects in Blender 4.0.
4.4 Assign and clean up materials, then import image textures into Blender to create a final textured pillar.
4.5 Repeat the process for importing images into the Shader editor, or use the alternative method of searching for image texture, then organize and connect the nodes to assign the color parameter to the base color parameter.
4.6 Click on the Shader editor to remove the grid, then access the viewport toolbar by going to the view menu and selecting the toolbar to be able to move the bottom pillar.
    5. 25:00 🎨 Duplicate and create materials for cubes, add array modifiers, adjust settings, and duplicate layers to create a foundation for pillars and brown dirt.
5.1 Duplicate cubes using crl c control v instead of using the duplicate objects button or shift d, then create brown and green materials.
5.2 Select the correct object, rename the material, and assign the colour in the Shader editor, then duplicate the green cube to create the base foundation for the pillars.
5.3 To add an array modifier to an object in Blender, go to the modifiers panel, click the add modifier button, search for "Array", and then click enter.
5.4 Adjust the array count to duplicate the cube, collapse the array modifier for organization, add a second array modifier, change the direction and count, and duplicate the green cube layer to create the brown dirt layer.
5.5 First, copy and paste the selection, then move it down one unit, deactivate and reselect to remove dark highlight, and finally assign the Brown material.
5.6 Collapse the array modifier, add a new array modifier, change the factor settings, adjust the count, and move/rotate the object into place.
    6. 31:33 🎬 Adjust parameters for cinematic effects, set up a timeline for playback and simulations, apply modifiers for rigid body physics and array modifiers to make objects move in simulation.
6.1 The goal is to make the scene look more cinematic by using ambient occlusion and Bloom, adjusting the parameters to exaggerate the effects.
6.2 Rotate around the scene to see shadows and light Bloom effect, then set up the timeline for playback and simulations.
6.3 Change the simulation length to 4 seconds, select all white cubes using the select linked materials tool, and then proceed with an active rigid body simulation.
6.4 Objects can be made to move in a simulation using rigid body physics, but passive objects need to be assigned to prevent them from going through the floor, and array modifiers need to be applied for the simulation to work properly.
6.5 Click on the wrench icon, select the upside-down triangle pull-down option, and click apply to collapse the modifier into the object, then repeat the process for both modifiers.
    7. 35:53 🎬 Change gravity to speed up the simulation, sabotage by moving cubes, pause and rewind to fix issues and view the simulation with materials in the shading tab.
7.1 Exaggerate the gravity in the scene properties by changing the z-axis from 9.8 to 30 to speed up the movement in the simulation.
7.2 Sabotage the simulation by moving cubes around to make pillars fall, and be aware of common issues with objects snapping back to their original location.
7.3 To avoid issues with the simulation, pause and rewind as needed, and if the cubes explode, keep following along and use the pause and rewind buttons to adjust them, then view the simulation with materials in the shading tab.
    8. 39:01 👍 Practice muscle memory by rebuilding your Minecraft Project to succeed in Blender.

Just a heads up, if anyone gets a feeling all their blocks are being draw in by an invisible force it's because the objects origin is off. If you click on your object, it's highlighted orange but an orange dot is closer to the world origin then that's the cause. You'll need to select all the objects that are affected by this, right click, "Set Origin" & select "Origin to Geometry". If you do it & all your blocks move to the orange dot just ctrl+z & redo it just make sure to not select "Geometry to Origin".

I am CRYING right now. This tutorial is amazing and I really appreciate it. But, the reason I'm crying is from laughter because I accidentally made a scene that blows up. I accidentally copy and pasted and left the side pillars inside of each other and duplicated that creating an accidental explosion mechanic before you mentioned it. Very cool! You did such a good job teaching that even though I made a mistake I was able to deduce why it happened and fix it if I wanted to. I think it's better exploding though, that's a core memory now.

This is a really good tutorial to have right after you finish your donut tutorial. It basically goes over the same stuff, but it's like there's a different workflow to it. Where he focused more on the shortcuts and getting through your first project, you go over the menu and some other things that he didn't really touch on. Because you use a different way of doing things, I can remember things better, and it solidified what I already learned. Which is exactly what I wanted from a tutorial.

The three button mouse emulator might be good for some people, but personally, I was lucky with my computer in the sense that my trackpad can do everything my mouse can without turning the three button mouse emulator on. The way I use the trackpad for navigation is by using to fingers to rotate, shift + two fingers to pan, and spreading my two fingers in and out to zoom in. Although I must say, while the zoom in feature on my trackpad is pretty good, it takes forever to zoom back out.

    • @venky193
      @venky193 10 місяців тому +6

I had the same issue when I did these tutorial the 1st time (in version 3.6)... since we are learning, we end up making duplicate cubes by mistake! Mr. CG does point out in his video too, that Duplicate cubes have been places on top of each other. Thats why the explosion happens!!
      Solution ==>
1- Check each section to see where the duplicate cubes are placed. then remove them. tedious work, i know!
2- Make the structure again from scratch, taking extra care to avoid any duplicates!
I prefer this 2nd option, since it helps to re-enforce the muscle memory that is essential to proceed further in Blender. Very Painful now, I agree, BUT you will thank us later for re-doing the whole thing again from the 1st block!! Its practise makes perfect.

I've just started this and I love the pacing. Enough to help you hit the ground running but not so much that you feel overwhelmed and wondering what you would even do with everything you've learned. Some tutorials throw too much at you and are very long and/or in depth. There is so much to 3D modeling that I think tutorials like this are better to let you learn just enough to decide which path you want to get started with.
