      @@Poweroftouch You are right. Dr Jason Fung (an expert of intermittent fasting & diabetes consultant) actually said: “When you break your fast, eat normally, as if you hadn’t fasted.” He also advocated that it’s not just when to eat but also what you eat so he recommends: eating low carb, as much greens as you like, protein and as much whole foods as possible without any added sugar and also to avoid highly processed foods. I am not overweight at all so I fast for health and energy at my old age but even if I were young, I certainly wouldn’t want to be slim & unhealthy!

      @@Poweroftouch PS. Maybe to be fair, when she said not to restrict what you eat, maybe, she only meant, “don’t bother counting the calories”.
      I have never ever counted calories - a pointless exercise according to Dr Fung & he has a video to explain why merely counting calories don’t work.

    I did IF for quite a while and ate whatever I wanted to (ie. Pizza, cheeseburgers, cookies, etc.) and it was able to get me down to 192 lbs. - with 2 meals in a 4-hour window. But my goal was 180 lbs. as I am 6 ft. tall. So, I eventually did OMAD and that got me to 179 this past week - the lowest in 20 years! So, yeah, IF evolving into OMAD for the Win!👍 Life Changing habit for me - I am grateful for it.

    • @alinap.7298

      How long did it take you on OMAD to reach your goal weight?
      And how much of it did you gain back after changing from OMAD?

    • @SynerstarHealthOver50
      @SynerstarHealthOver50 Рік тому +8

      @@alinap.7298 I have been doing OMAD for 30 weeks now so I am still doing it on a daily basis. That said, I don't do perfect OMAD. I cheat and drink Vietnamese coffees/Ice Mocha coffees for about 10-12 hours out of the day (I'm addicted, and have 2 - 3 a day, LOL). There is a lot of sugar in these drinks and if I cut them out and really did OMAD 100% I'd probably be down another 10 pounds to 170 - which is something I am interested in doing in the future. It took me about 20 weeks on 'partial OMAD' (we'll call it, with 12 hours of sugary Ice coffees) to go from 192 to 180. I started at 226 lbs. about 6.5 years ago and IF helped me get to 192 on 4 separate occasions in that time - but, I always failed and reverted back to worse eating times and would balloon back over 205 to 215... So, 192 was my Achilles heel and I started to really doubt if I would ever get below it. Then 6 months ago I hit 192 again but this time I transitioned to OMAD and BOOM... the last 12 pounds FINALLY came off over the coming weeks regardless of what I ate and even with me having sugary drinks 10-12 hours per day. Yes, it took 20 weeks of being on Partial OMAD to lose the final 12 pounds and get to 180 - but if I wasn't drinking the sugary ice coffees all day - I'd probably have hit 180 in 5 weeks or so... the sugary drinks make me happy so I continue with the habit but it definitely slows my OMAD progress down. That is OK with me as I am willing to obtain slow improvements - so long as I get there. Thanks and Good Luck!😃

    I recently switched to doing OMAD , now on day 5 and I am already feeling more amazing than before ! I was doing intermittent fasting all along before I switched to OMAD, now that I have done the switch , I am never going back ! I am 6 feet tall, 170 pounds. I have been at 170 for years and years when I was doing intermittent fasting so I am not doing OMAD to lose weight but for other reasons. One is to be healthier , there is a phenomenon called atophagy in which your body re-cycles some old dead cells inside the body that could otherwise turn toxic later .. This usually starts to occur within 16 hours of no eating , so doing a 23 hour fast is definitely a great way to trigger autophagy in your body. Second is OMAD slows down aging and initiates growth hormone. Your body is an amazing machine that could adopt to anything so when you start eating once a day you give all of your organs a lot of time to rest and re-generate cells without constantly being busy digesting the foods that you shove down your throat every 4-5 hours in a day.. Third , you have more time during the day as you don't have to sit down and eat 2-3 meals a day . Fourth , not constantly worrying about what to eat for breakfast , lunch and dinner, that frees up a lot of brain space that you could use for more productive thoughts and plans.. Fifth, OMAD ensures a minimalistic life-style so your life actually becomes easier . Sixth, your mental clarity and focus improves dramatically when you do OMAD , and your emotions are much more stable throughout the day than before.. This was the most amazing factor that surprised me ! I knew that my mental clarity and my ability to focus would improve but I never thought that my mood would become more stable. Lastly, doing OMAD saves you money too : ) 😊
    To cut a long story short, OMAD is really a life-changing experience , once fully adopted and implemented it could enrich your life in ways not imagined before. You will be less impulsive, more calm, much more focused, more stable, healthier, younger, end up with a better skin and happier.
    Here is a couple of things to consider to get the best out of OMAD : First is that there is a misconception that now that you get to eat once a day you could get away with eating junk and not so healthy food.. It is true that you would be losing weight if you ate once a day even if you ate junk food but poor diet is a poor diet no matter what, so avoid falling into this trap . Second, deciding what time of the day you will sit down with your only meal is also important. Our body operates within its own circadian rhythm , eating at noon is not the same thing eating at 8 pm even though you eat the exact same type of food, so the most ideal time for OMAD is sometime between 1 pm and 4 pm .. If you are able to eat your only meal between these times it would be the best for you.. Lastly, some people get the drinking part wrong . Coffee , black and green tea and sparkling water ( plain, not flavored ) is perfectly okay but avoid any fruit juice, Redbull or sodas at all cost..
    For those who have been thinking about doing OMAD, my suggestion would be instead of going cold turkey and start doing it right away, start doing intermittent fasting first, try two meals a day with 12-12 IF ( Intermittent Fasting ) then move onto 14-10 then to 16-8 then start switching to OMAD..
    Cheers ! 😊😊

      I know I’m replying a month later, but I’m in shocked that you only lost 25 pounds in 2 years!! Something had to have been wrong chemically in your body(need to do blood work) or you are doing something drastically wrong. I lost 50 pounds & every person I’ve ever met in months, just doing it. The key was eating correctly during your eating period, healthy protein & vegetables. Some folks can eat starches, junk food, etc, but most of us have to eat healthy during our Feasting Period to lose weight. Also, if you aren’t fasting at least 19 hours to get into Autophagy (google it) for a full fat burning state, you aren’t going to get great benefits. Try to do OMAD occasionally

But it has cured my metabolic syndrome basically within 10 days. Clarity of my mind - feels so good, and I am not even hungry anymore. I will need a few months before I get to my ideal weight. This is it for me, after years of YO-YO diets, I feel I have the answer this time. Dieting never felt this good. Thank you again.

    i find it easier to stick to a calorie count with omad. I eat 2000-2200 calories a day and omad also makes it easier for me to eat healthier too. There is something to say about "time under pressure" in working out but for eating "time under consumption" like a half a cup of oatmeal vs 2 tablespoons of peanut butter, the peanut butter probably yields better nutrition but having more volume and time to eat that half a bowl of oatmeal makes the brain feel as if it has eaten. I have for over a year eaten 2 meals a day-one when i wake 1 before bed and i did ok but sometimes the amount at supper would just be too low for me. So the Omad is perfect for me for that.
    i take a multivitamin in the morning, fish oil. I love eggs beans and sweet potatoes on this diet and spoons of peanut butter.

    What I discovered and really surprised me from a Muslim friend of mine is that their fasting in the month of Ramadan is the closest to intermittent fasting. What is really strange is that their Messenger told them to fast and you will be healthy. This was 1500 years ago! How is this?

    • @SixMilesToSupper
      @SixMilesToSupper  4 місяці тому +1

      And The Bible teaches about fasting and it's benefits and it was first mentioned in conjunction with Moses who lived around 1500 BC. So I think maybe they got it from The Bible. Our family also fasts as Orthodox Christians have been fasting for millennia. - J.R.

      I know my friend that Christianity has fasting, but your fasting is not at all similar to intermittent fasting because you eat throughout the day. However, the fasting of Muslims amazed me because they completely abstain from eating and drinking for 16 hours a day during the month of Ramadan, which is exactly the same as intermittent fasting, which science has discovered to be healthy. Also, their prophet used to fast this fast two days a week throughout the year, and he also advised them to fast these two days! I hope you understand. Thank you.

    Great Advice.. Fasting can help create a calorie deficit, but if you consume more calories than you burn during your eating window, you may not lose weight. To lose weight, you need to be in a calorie deficit, meaning you burn more calories than you consume.
