  • You need to watch this if you are over 60. Let's begin again. I thought long and hard before making this video about the things I could share that would truly make a real difference in our lives. Aging is full of wonder and change, wisdom and reflection and it's also filled with some difficult challenges that we face every day. Body, mind and spirit all working together for a happier healthier life. I take you through a walk through the park with my friend Hal and I share with you the things I struggle with the most at 66. If you have time please down below leave a comment on some things you had to change when you turned 60 or beyond. I don't want this to be all about me and my ideas..I so want us all to contribute.
I missed you all so much this week and I was so happy to sit down and chat with you. Next week I will give you a life update and let you know how Bill is doing! So many of you are so kind and ask about him. I am hoping to be able to get in and visit with him very soon.
Thank you so much to everybody who is here...I love you to the moon and back...
Have a great new week....we love you, Susan & Desi

Susan you are so wonderful I am 56 and love to read, be in nature and today I went to my garden next to a very old bamboo tree and put classical music and me and my 20 year old daughter with autism dance and laugh and look at the moon it was magical , Time literally stopped and I glanced at my daughter's face and she was looking at me in amazement, she is not very verbal but she has a voice she was telling me mommy thank you for seeing me and for giving me joy ,Susan my daughter is my biggest teacher of unconditional love and you my dear Lady , you give Love every time you make your videos and I am blessed every time I come back.😊

Ivette Nevel...Thankyou for being such a beautiful person and mother to your daughter....I am an autistic adult (a little older than you) and knew no love, only abuse from my mother who didn't know how to show love...it warms my heart to read you share times with your daughter like you described💝🙂....I share similar such times with my youngest daughter too who is the only person i have ever learned what love truly is from....I too love the moon 🌝 &🌠🌌⭐s, music 🎶 and the 🌊sea🌊 🙂🙏

To live a happier life, I’ve turned off the television, I don’t watch any news, I guard my peace fiercely, I get rid of negative people. I try to remember to ask myself if what I’m doing is helping to create the life I want. I’m older....and I’ve also stopped taking any crap. I’ve found my voice and my power. Life is good. 😎

I feel the same as many out there. Divorced since 2003, now 71. Never thought I’d be spending the rest of my life alone. I have two wonderful sons and their spouses and two pups but daily life is lonely even when I’m busy. There is little joy in getting older. Seems I’ve reached the age that even when I get dressed up and do my hair for dinner out...well, no one says “you look great” anymore. I want to scream “please notice me”. I’d love to find joy again. Hang in there. We’re in this together. 💕

I know that I need to get out of my pity party and move forward but it is hard. I am lonely and really always feel like third wheel when I am with other folks. I miss my husband and I must move forward. Ok just wanted to say thank you and I will try.

I live a happier life by knowing that everyone on this earth is broken and has experienced some sort of life changing event. Nobody is perfect, including me. It’s all about grace. Extending it to others and to ourselves. And by doing that I don’t expect anyone to make me happy! They are released from that job. I experience joy by having people in my life, but they are not responsible for producing that joy... only I am.

After my parent's died and my dogs I caught a reflection of my face in a mirror in a store. I did not recognize the face I saw. The saddest face I had stopped smiling and I looked absolutely miserable. From the day on I found myself avoiding mirrors. I finally figured it out I have my Dads big brown eyes and every time I looked into the mirror I saw my fathers eyes. The song In my fathers eyes was sung at my Dads funeral. I could not bear to look at my reflection because I could not bear to see my those big sad brown eyes. Its been eight years and I have been actively seeking things that bring joy. Shopping for plants and gardening, making a wreath for the door, walking in the woods by a stream with my dogs, changing house decor with the seasons. A pretty seasonal window display or a blooming plant in the bathroom or by the sink or on the deck can brighten your day. A bird feeder brings beautiful cheerful birds to look at.

Growing older is really a privilege and embracing how far we've traveled in our lives is part of the process. I always tell my viewers not to give up what they love, but to modify the process as much as they need to, so they can continue to do the things that give them pleasure. Creating our own happiness is one of the most important keys to a happy, productive life. One of the things I enjoy most about being older is many of the responsibilities that took up the majority of our time when we were younger, no longer demand all of our attention, and the freedom to do other things that we love is wonderful.

A few months into the lockdown and working from home, I found myself at my heaviest weight ever. I have a treadmill I had really never used so I started walking on my lunch hour every day to burn off stress. It was very hard in the beginning but I kept pushing myself. I began with 1 mile a day at a relatively slow rate and I started intermittent fasting. Now, almost a year later, I walk 3 miles a day on my lunch hour, and I have lost almost 40 lbs!!! I feel so much better and I have so much more energy! I still have another 15 lbs to go and I will do it. At almost 66 years young, I feel better than I have in years. I have also grown a lot spiritually by feeding my Spirit. Your visit today has inspired me to make a few more changes and I look forward to an even more fulfilling and happier life. Beautiful words of wisdom, Susan. This past year was one of the hardest for me. It is almost like everyone I know stopped and took stock in the things most important. I know I did a whole lot of reflecting on my life. I understand exactly what you mean about being our own worst critic. I fell into a very deep depression around 45 years old and had to see a counselor for months. I learned that every time you go to the doctor or see a psychiatrist they write down exactly what your appearance and demeanor were when you walked in or they first glanced at you. So much is carried on our faces and posture and it is exactly how people perceive the person you are. The psychologist explained to me the first time I walked into his office my whole face was down trodden and my look was downward. He taught me to look in a mirror and find one thing I like about myself and to keep doing that until I learn to love myself again and it worked. You are so correct about the words we say to ourselves and how we have the power to make ourselves complete and happy. Thank you Susan for your beautiful words that help each of us to put on a happy face and let the sunshine in!

Yes, I do pray for her + But what helps me not feel invisible, not feel like I'm nothing b/c I have all this life experience & my daughter isn't interested in me -- is -- I've become close friends with younger women online. One, in particular, I've known since she was a high school fashion blogger in a small-town -- she's now 27 and living the life in NYC! My daughter distanced herself, yet again. I let her in and out she went again, I don't even know exactly where she lives now, I know she went to Arizona and
bought a ranch type mobile home with plenty of space to grow veggies, plant fruit trees and did it back with an EX again and left me to the dust! I was sick
and recuperating from being hit head on, and almost fatal car wreck, well, she came by me for around a little after a year, than took off, left me alone and
no address or what the place looks like so I am at a loss, next time, when my time really comes, she won't even now, if you know what I mean, she will have to figure it out for herself. I'm getting up in years and not even a call or email
not even one once a month, she will never know what happens to me or when
it will, my God, I never treated my mom like that, stayed with her for all of two

I used to have a lovely singing voice but the last 10 to 15 years that’s all change so I never sing. Well thank you I am going to sing for myself and see if I can improve my voice.I used to sing all the time. Drove everyone nuts. You must have a lovely complexion in person. Unfortunately I can’t use just about any products anymore that’s because I have developed severe acne rosacea rash on my nose and cheeks in the last few years which is aggravated by sun, heat, alcohol, hot foods and now mask wearing. It is also aggravated by anything I put on my face even soap which I’ve never used anyway. Thanks for the uplifting video.I am 83 and I’ve been trying to live every moment of my life because the older you get the faster those moments go by and you have to treasure each of them no matter what they’re like or what your face is like, in my case.

@@carrie-joylloyd5785 oh my love we are not at least I’m not perfect. There are days I don’t want to get out of bed. I don’t want to let myself think about the fact of how old I am and there isn’t really that much time left even if I live to be 100. The only thing I can do is keep on trucking. I know what depression is like are usually get it as soon as the days get shorter. Can’t take darkness so I have lights everywhere and they’re all LED so they don’t cost much and they’re on all the time.I don’t go out very much. The only thing that keeps me going it’s sort of a routine. I have several people I watch on UA-cam videos and they post regularly on the same day every week,So they’re part of my day and can’t wait to see what’s next. For a few moments, I can live in a chateau, build a house in the hills of Utah or live on the AmFie coast. There’s a guy in New Zealand who loves to camp in that weather with his sheep dog and I love to follow him. In my youth I loved camping Lol I also like photography and pictures. I’ve taken thousands hundreds of thousands over the years and Google pictures have managed to pick up a lot of them. I love going through these and spend a fair amount of time doing that. Nothing better to bring back the good times. I paint but you know when you get older your hands are shaky and you can’t do what you used to do. I am a bit obsessive compulsive when it comes to painting so it’s very difficult for me to do it but I try when the spirit moves me. I find something to do something to occupy myself even if it’s playing with the cat. Having a pet is a big help. That doesn’t mean I’m not depressed it just means that I got to do something. I visit with my friends periodically however that might be once a week. I can’t tell you what to do but maybe if you thought about it you would come up with some things yourself to keep you occupied. I can’t tell you to just pick up your depression and get on with it because depression is not like that. You got to take it one tiny step at a time. You’re the only one who knows how to live and manage with it.

Theres different ways to view things. I've been invisible about all my life, and not just since getting older. I don't know why that was/is; Even after bringing it to others attention. At work the oncoming shift could walk right past me and wonder where I was and I'd be standing right there! After saying I'm invisible again, I'd just shake my head. You know it's not always you that's the problem, it could very well be that its others being oblivious to what's going on around them. They just live the same ole' ho hum days. It's like driving the same road everyday, but the more one drives on that same road, the less one pays attention to the views around them. So yes, making changes often, is best for onesself and the soul no matter how trivial it may seem, no matter the age. From the feet to the top of the head! Maybe we can start viewing the World more positively. You are fantastic Little Poet! ❤

I don't sing as much as I used to because I forget the words. But you've changed that today! Another use it or lose it situation! Love to you and Desi! And one last thing, your hair and outfit are beautiful! (Well you are!) My Mom was beautiful until she was 85 and Alzheimer's got the best of her. Her last two years she couldn't keep up with her appearance and the disease took over. To feel better I spent the last week purging my house of things that were no longer needed and keeping me from enjoying my family room. My brother came to Maryland from Washington State and we filled a dumpster. He organized my tool room so it's immaculate and I can get back to playing and repurposing things.

For us older single gals (73), a kind & helpful brother is a godsend. When I purged my house of about 1/3 its contents, I worked for several months just sorting, donating, cleaning etc. Then my brother & I filled a dumpster that stretched the length of my house & most of my driveway. What a freeing experience!! I could probably do another 1/3 purge this fall IF I can convince my brother to help again.

At 60 I had to accept losing family members. Dad, Mom and my brother. I think that’s the hardest part of aging, dealing with loss. I accept I don’t look like I used to or have the stamina but the loss is so hard. Do you look so put together and pretty every day? Desi is a cutie pie. ❤️💕

I have a bad habit, of commenting before I finish the video, so I have to keep editing, because you touch so many subjects. I just had to come back and tell you what a fantastic video this was Susan, you wore your heart on your sleeve, and you give us such great advise... I’ll be 70 in July, and I’ll be honest it annoys me that I am at that point of my life, then I realize I am still here, and healthy, so I promised myself as the date draws near not to focus on it... And appreciate the fact that I am growing older...
I didn’t want to edit my other comment again, so this week I had to comment twice. Your video touched my heart, and you look fantastic, 10 lbs is one size down

I told you in an earlier video that I was at my all time weight. I’m not technically “overweight” by chart standards, but I feel matronly at this weight.
    I’ll be 60 in June.
I’ve lost 3 lbs in the last 10 days, by just getting off this Covid comfort food routine and back on intermittent fasting.
About 10 more to go I think. I’ll see how I feel.
I too get told I sound like a kid on the phone. I think it’s because when I walk I wear my air pods and sing like a loon to my 80s music. Lol.
I agree that skin care is not just about beauty. It’s about taking care of yourself.
    Grooming. Glowing!
Saw your friend in the video. He looks like he’s so much fun to be around.
    Love to you and Desi!💕💕

hi Susan, you have just made me feel so good!! I am just about to turn 64. I like to somehow make people smile. We don't realize how much a smile or a compliment can really make someone feel. Be kind is my motto and try to laugh at yourself. Laughter is the best medicine to give to yourself and others.

During this time of change, hardships, and not knowing what tomorrow brings we need communication with someone that wants to listen and share views. Thank you for bringing so much friendship. That is what I do to make my life better and happier. Food for thought....................just you being here, sharing with us all.

I have gotten through the year 2020. We had lockdown, and I had cancer. Now I'm past 3 rounds of chemo, 33 radiation treatments, and tested negative in March. I'm 56 and feel I need a new beginning. I had to be strong and go it alone during treatment, it wasn't easy. I wished I'd had one night with company just to talk to. When you learn it's only you, it can make you want a new path in life. Yes, I'm stronger, and so very thankful to all those who prayed for me.

Thank you Little Poet, well said and beautifully shared. You are like the piped piper where other come and follow. I enjoy giving to others and donating to causes. I like making, giving and sharing foods like sushi for my friends and family. I like to help others who don't have time or are unable to do certain tasks like gardening or simply dishes. I like to make it look great at work to set the stage for a great week. I do also need to fill my own cup or I become drained and tired. We all need to, I enjoy self care, rest laxing times. I seem to do best with busy then rest between each giving busy time. Can be a day rest or two. I Allow others to give to me too, then they too get to give. I enjoy the outside, cooking and making myself healthy foods. Getting myself what I need and surrounding myself amongst what, where and whom I LOVE to be with.
P.S You are looking even younger today Susan like a decade or more. Thanks again for being you.

I will be 62 in June. I lost my best friend two years ago. She was only 60. I lost my brother last September. He was only 68. I have decided to live each day in gratitude. I am a cancer survivor (15 years out) and I am so fortunate to still be here. I also decided to stop working full-time and go to part-time work. Life is short and I want to appreciate every day. I've also learned to "Be connected to everything and attached to nothing."

Invisible? I just said that to my sister in November 2020. Being a confident woman, I was used to being looked at. Definitely not invisible. For my 64th birthday that cold November day, I went to get my hair colored after 2 years of being gray. It lifted my spirits. I recognize myself again when I look in the mirror these days. I now look as young as I feel, 50 something 😉
