I saw Ginger Baker play about ten years after this, a few years before he died, in London with 'Jazz Confusion'. He was even more crippled up with arthritis then and on powerful pain killers - but he definitely still had it!

Instantly recognizable style and highly musical drum solos, not just a bunch of overplaying and flashy show-off. And to be fair, its a wonder he’s still alive at the point of recording this video, after so many years of heroin.

Sorry to be a naysayer but I think he was very overrated. I will give him credit for great jams with cream, but solos, nah. Would like to hear some dynamics vs only loud.
@@masterofreality5528do you think personal insults change minds? Why specifically do you think he was so great? And why do you assume I’m a bonham fan?
Every drummer since Ginger Baker will have at least a little, but maybe a LOT of his influence in their playing. He wasn't the first to play double bass drums, not by a long way - but he was one of the first to use all four limbs independently. Max Roach said that Ginger Baker didn't use his second bass drum just to play fast footwork, he used it musically as another tom tom. If Max Roach starts giving someone credit for innovation, might be an idea to take him seriously.
ginger is a very musical world/jazz/fusion drummer. his phrasing is very articulate and always tells a story. but he developed his style in the late 50's and early 60's- which was quite unique- and was the first to create a real vocabulary on two bass drums. his concept/style is completely original and true to him. as stewart copeland said, there was no real model for how he played. mind you, ALL five of those drummers were heavily influenced by ginger baker BEFORE he formed cream and used to see him with the graham bond organization. they all looked up to ginger.
One of the greatest back in the 60s
Ginger’s ‘Toad’ solos were spellbinding… he was a truly amazing drummer.
This is a priceless piece of video.
Thank you for showing this old man still had it in spades.
Some are born to run
Some are born to be wild
Some are born under a bad sign
And some are BORN TO DRUM 🥁
Cool glimpse into his world
Thank you so much for that, Brilliant.. Rip Ginger Baker..
I got to see Cream play in 2005 at Madison Square Garden. It was unbelievably fantastic.
Number 1 !!!
Preperations for the upcoming Cream reunion that same year 👍
WOW 🤩. Love ❤️ Ginger. RIP.🙏🏻
Wonderful triplet work. Great polyrhythmic stuff.
I can’t stop loving my guy Ginger Baker drum SOLO ❤🎉

Great influence for me Excellent sounds
The Reason I play Drums, thank you Ginger 🤣
Thank you for posting! Great solo
guy was a fucking BAD ASS!!!
The guy was just mesmerizing to watch!
So Superb !
Thank you for posting this short video. .
The posture is most incredible.
How often do you see drummers sit that straight and let their hands, wrists, and arms do the work?
Thanks for posting this amazing.

"I'll send you to da fackin 'Ospital!"
Say your sorry.. No!!!
That's the DW kit... man I'd just like to know where that iconic silver sparkle Ludwig kit sits.... I hope Kofi has it now
He doesn’t…apparently Ginger’s last wife took a lot of his items including the snare from that silver sparkle kit which Ginger had gifted to Kofi.
@@drummer78 Thanks for answering
I've heard, that was so horrid and evil!
Getting into the zone.
He did this everyday at his ranch to piss-off his neighbours...10miles away❤
One of the greatest drummers to ever live. Sad to see him here in declining health
I remember doing this with bong hits and the neighbors called the cops over n over 😄
This is great
This would sound ten times better if the drum kit was tuned properly.
Drum solo? I’m taking a nap. Wake me when he’s done.
John Bonham was rated one of the best drummers and i loved him but he never did anything like that.
For me he was mutch better than all others, better than John Bonham - JUST FOR ME.
Not just you, for me too!
No way.
@@johnhead6116 I wrote "FOR ME"!!! Not for all, not for you, Just for me!!!!
Even John Bonham idolised him.
First time I seen Ginger have anything to his belly lol. Dude was dangerously thin
A diet of heroin and cocain will do that to ya... ☠️
He’s wearing sunnies due to the glare off his body
very redundant solo ....
It was a practice session, not a performance...
Later he’ll head downstairs and sew people together
Imagine if he had neighbours 😂
He wouldn't give a shit about them, lmao.
Ginger Baker POpomaker
His last Ludwig kit sounded so good. These sound like dog shit.

Not bad for a 66 year old semi-reformed smack addict

Bet you couldn't perform 1% of what he did here

Ashamed yourself incompetent
There are very good pro drummers who couldn’t even play this shit
I've just never got it with this guy. Very overrated, imo. There's literally a list of 100 drummers that I would rather hear play and solo.
