My grandfather was like this. At 80 years old, my brother (4 at the time) could sit on his back while he was doing push ups. He used to do a max set of 60-70 several times a day. He and his brothers would chop down trees, spit roast entire animals over open fire, do random shit around the house all day, and never run out of energy. In his 50s, at just 5’7, he could stand at the base of a staircase and jump up 7 steps. We have a video or him doing this. I remember at 88 years old, he could pick 6 year old me completely off the floor from my shirt collar with one hand. He had the most ridiculous grip strength you could ever imagine. As a fun little challenge, he used to grab people by the wrist and say “try to get out” and it would be impossible. He was just a freak of nature. We have endless stories in my family of him doing ridiculous things. If it weren’t for the botched back surgery he got in his early 90s, I think he would have lived much older than “just” 100. The surgery immediately had him walking with a cane and hobbled over. I miss him every day.
I feel like I am an old timer, but he gives me inspiration. People are surprised an old guy like me is out riding a bike, but it has giving my life back. I went from flat on my back in pain all day to over 14k miles. I feel like I am 16 again every time I ride. Currently riding 30-55 miles a day and documenting it for my great grand children and anyone else who wants to see my progress. Looks like I am doing most everything he is doing, hopefully I will get the same results. Thanks for the video 😃
And this is precisely why Leon Edwards has the greatest physique of all of Milky Way galaxy history and will be remembered for Millenia of generations to come.

I'm 82 and wish I could be like Mike in 18 years. Unlike many young people who have no clue, Mr. Hendrix has an uncommon appreciation for what it is to be older. IMO, the old age simulator can be a useful tool for those willing to take it seriously.
From what I've learned over the years, one of the most important aspects of it is to stay active, stay curious. I work in an industry where I run into a lot of people who work in construction or do mechanical work. In the position I meet a lot of people who are not professionals, but who like to work on projects, whether its something around the house, or just working on their car. Their minds are actively trying to solve problems, and they have a purpose, which is to finish their project. I knew a man in his eighties who built his own back porch, and I regularly run into people who are well past 75 and still working on something. While I know people my own age who have no desire to do anything with their off time but watch television, and who seem much older than they are. There is an old saying that basically goes the heart is happiest when the mind and the hands work together. Jay Leno has said this often. What does he do? Constantly works on cars. He can hire anyone he wants to do whatever work he needs to do, but he still likes to work on cars. William Shatner is in his nineties, but still speaks like someone much younger. I was listening to an interview with Brett Spiner (famous for playing Data on TNG) who is friends with Shatner. He said that Shatner is just a very curious person, and always wants to learn about something new, always has his nose in a book. Hopefully I can stay physically and mentally active as I get older.
Ahhh this was such a wholesome watch - I LOVE stumbling across channels with uplifting messages and community connection. Thank you Leon and team for creating this video 😍
Thanks for covering the coolest grandpa I could ever have. His wisdom needs to be shared and is all he truly wants and sticks around to continuously teach those around him.
Gave you a like for the last part. The mental illness and loneliness epidemic we're living thanks to our screens and "social media" is crazy and people need to be aware of this. The way it's shown here with this old man is just beautiful :)
Ironically though, he is contributing to the problem by creating catchy UA-cam videos, which are designed to glue as many people for as long as possible to their screens.
I love the internet! I can now learn 1000 times more about everything and every science and converse with much broader minds than I ever meet in my physically life. I can repair things and RV all around Australia solo even safer than living in a suburb. With it I am able to help where it's needed and be more self responsible. I have never understood why people aren't using it to learn to the max.
My pops lived to be 3 weeks shy of 90. My mom would sit in the hospital and hold his hand in her late 80’s like she was 20 again waiting for him to come back from sea in the Navy. He chose so well at 17 years old it’s mind blowing to me❤️
This good sir taught me to never take my life for granted. Do what I want, when I want and so on. Love and live life to the fullest. Anyone that wants to steer me in another direction, I bring up this man to counter their statements and put them in shame.
This was so CRAZY good! Every video truly feels better than the last. Big L on UA-cam for not properly recommending these great videos, total injustice.
Bruh. I literally just cried from this realization. I knew most of this information (by which you reaffirmed), however today is my literal half-century birthday. I am heart broken because I know the only thing holding me back from getting beyond my third heart attack is the strength of my interpersonal relationships. I have to take the blame for my own issues from multiple TBI’s, however I cannot fault the data on my stubbornness of being loyal to a partner that is just flat out not good for my health. This will literally be the death if me (that and the fact that everyone eventually dies). 😢
I can never understand why this content doesn't get millions of views :D It's always been my dream to watch and create content like this! Great job, Leon! Your recent ideas are incredible, especially the focus on longevity. I absolutely love it!
I'm glad I found this video and your channel. I'm 70, I have a plan, I want to keep kicking ass. I got a new hip 2 years ago, I had a couple of rough spots, but I am back on mission.
Subbed for the way you helped the old man up off the deck and caught him when he staggered; A completion and fulfillment of the circle of youth and age closing in on itself. Good bro.
This was amazing to watch. I’m glad to see more content like this getting pushed across social. America desperately needs to make changes. It’s mind blowing to me that our average lifespan isn’t at 85 by now.
Both my parents made it to 100. Unfortunately, mum had dementia but dad was as sharp as a tack. He would often get asked, "What's your secret?" He got a bit sick of answering by the end. He was an intelligent man and knew that he probably didn't know the answer. His answers would change but would generally include the factors mentioned in this video. The one factor that was always included was, "A good, supportive, loving wife."
This was so CRAZY good! Every video truly feels better than the last. Big L on UA-cam for not properly recommending these great videos, total injustice.
My father is 97. He is a voracious reader, and he remembers everything he reads. He's had a-fib for many years but handles it well. I think his primary key to longevity is that he eats consistently, never snacked, the desserts he eats are always very small portions. The most he's ever weighed was 175-180, the least was 165. Of course, these days he's down to 140 simply due to age. He thinks his longevity if from genetics. He has a brother who is 94... 2 other brothers passed away in their mid 80's, but they smoked.
Dude reading is huge. Everyone should get into the habit while young to read minimum of one hour a day. Preferably non-fiction. Imagine over 40 years. Thats 14,600 hours reading. Over 60 years that’s 21,900 hours. Compare that to a non reader who might read 10 books in their life but only to pass a college course. Imagine the insane intelligence difference. It’s a whole other universe. Plus it prevents dementia and all those brain diseases.
Excellent video!! I am 40 now and make sure to engage all of my body almost everyday. Doing so is redundant, but seeing this is definitely inspirational. I truly feel like I am back in my early 20s after I workout. Actually, I was more stagnant during my early 20s than I am now. I was sitting, doing a bunch of learning and work, and feeling under-circulated. Now I do about 64 cartwheels every 2 days and run about 4 miles in hilly terrain. It makes for a full-body routine. I like to cold plunge in the shower, too. All together, I think and feel better every time I do these things.
My question is how does his heart keep beating at that age with the demand. Apparently 1 in 36 thousand men die from sudden cardiac death when exercising and the chances raise with age. Hes a very lucky guy or his heart genetics are superior.
at 05:10 when he looses balance...when the oyunger guy helps him..brought tears to my eyes, so much care and respect for old persons is not always a given ( unfortunately ), I know he was on camera, but the moment..priceless. Much respect .
He’s very inspiring, thank you for the video. I personally don’t wanna live until 100, I just wanna have amazing thriving life until 80 and die peacefully with excellent health.
while sleep is mentioned as being key, I've no idea why it isn't all on it's own category. As stated, bad sleep literally destroys all the others. It affects your finance/work too which then keeps you in a poverty trap. eat properly, exercise regularly, sleep well. The last point regarding healthy relationships is also a major, major one. I've adjusted my view accordingly, so thanks for this video
very wholesome story. more simple. you really highlighted the character on this one and made it not only about protocols he follows but his life and personality.
I love this. I am 64 and recently started exercising. I used to think that my ability to do planks, pushups, and pullups was a big deal. Seeing this video makes me realize the errors of my ways. Thanks for this. I hope I have 40 more years left. I told my wife that if I breathe my last breath doing a pushup, I will die a happy man, as long as my wife is there by my side.
wow!! this is an impressive learning video for longevity. Not to mention I was laughing out loud with the some of the jokes.. and it made me grateful that at 65 I'm happily married for 35yrs. Who knew that is a marker for longevity. Thanks guys.
To keep doing thing, you need to keep doing things. Family friend lived into his early 90s, and at that age could pick up an carry 2x3ft sidewalk blocks. They weigh 80-100lbs. He just always did what he always did, and never surrendered to being old. Stayed active so he could stay active. Stopping from moving, stops you from moving. My mom passed away early due to lack of moving. My dad 88 is still doing pretty good.
Thank you for sharing. He is an inspiration in many ways but is that because he was willing to change when he got cancer. To those who say "veganism is impossible", it IS possible and works if you work at it. You are swimming uphill, but it is a compassionate lifestyle. Congratulations.
This Video was so well put together and really forces you to think about your long term health, how much a lot of us take for granted until we regret wasting what little time we all have. It really makes you want to get up and start living life as healthy and fulfilling as you can. Don't think I've ever been this motivated to subscribe to a channel before, I have never once ever considered going vegan but after this i definitely want to do some research. This video was presented so well and i can't wait to check out more content.
Wow i didnt expect this video to make me tear up lol. But when you mentioned that he got married when he was 70 and has been with his wife for 30 years.. that got me. I love that when life is starting to wind down for many people at that age, this man got married and has lived an extra 30 years with this woman. Just incredible to think about!
A former Marine Officer, now 68, I'm also vegetarian, don't smoke or drink and maintain acute situational awareness and a very positive mental attitude. 6x cancer; 38 orthopedic procedures and surgeries; decades of intermittent PT; and walked away from a 65 mph motorcycle accident. Years in and out of Iraq and Afghanistan, following 25 years as a Marine Infantry and Special operations officer. While there are many paths in to the Divine a strong sense of Spiritual identity is as critically important as any diet, exercise regimen, or interpersonal relationship..
I turn 62 next Sunday (Jan 7 2024) Months out from a 2 plate bench, my original goal of 4x my age at 60 got off track, but going to get it this coming year. Now I joke, about 4x my age at 80 (320 bench) and will never surrender to 'old'. We can all do more to be our best at any age.
At 1:46 Jeanne Calment, Age 122. This was likely a inheritance fraud case. The daughter assumed the mother identity to avoid paying French inheritance taxes and said the daughter had died. Hence the daughter was about 98 years old when she died, not 124.
With regards to stability, it's a matter of positive mobility. Mobility plays a huge factor in our quality of life as we get older. I started doing Yoga 10 years ago, and my stability has increased tremendously. However, my balance didn't increase until I started doing weight training, specifically squats and lunges. I'm nearly 50 and I feel stronger now than I did in my 20's when I suffered from bouts of back and neck pain.
This old man was so cute. His positivity and the way he insists on doing things himself that people his age usually don't, reminds me of the sweet old man from Squid Game.
It is freaking JAWDROPPING that this man can do multiple pull-ups in his 100 while most regular people that you can ask on the street won't even do ONE.
Wow, Leon! This was SO well done and inspiring/encouraging, and done with some great humor. I've just subscribed and I'm looking forward to checking out your other videos. Keep up the good work!
Another great video Leon. Now I want to change my lifestyle to be more health oriented. I'm only 18 so I think I have time lol, but it's never to early.
I worked out since about 13, but actually peaked in strength in the gym, aerobic fitness and feeling powerful in my mid-50's. I really couldn't explain how! I wish I knew.
That 100 year old has the luckiest life. You can eat healthy have the best genetics that make you live to 100 but you cannot control what the outside world does to you like fatal accidents, fights etc... or a random slip and fall accident. You cannot control random dangerous external factors.
My father's grandmother died when she was over 105 years old. She loved food and she kept eating. My neighbour died when she was also over 105 years old. She always had butter and beef in her diet. I'm so confused as to what to eat because I have auto immune conditions. But for now, I can say that I've been feeling better since I started to consume more protein.
Protein helps but you only have one liver. So yeah If you want to listen to the Mainstream right now Higher IS better. David Sinclair knowing for making nad+ popular (very powerful anti aging component because fasting creates that basicly but als Supplement is the lazy way). He is certain that you only have one kidney and that you should max at 25mg Protein per day.
@1:39 I love it. Shows how much doctors know. OK, listen to their advice (that's why we pay them), but the final decision on what's good for you remains YOUR decision.
As an occupational therapist, this can't be stressed enough: occupations (the daily activities we do to occupy our lives, ie. dressing, cooking, recreation, sleep, relationships, etc) are all therapy---especially for elders. As you can see here, this gentleman engages in all of his occupations with little/no help. This is key for mind/body health and awareness! Keep it up!! And, on a side note, as a horse/animal lover....I don't love seeing someone hit a horse...no matter what. Not really funny.
I'm half his age and I feel old. Just started lifting weights again after taking less overtime at work. I plan on working till 80 ( been working since 16)
Great overview! I wouldn't focus on the caloric restriction and proteins specifically but rather on the right combination of fibre/legumes/high-quality fats/plant diversity/fermented food/protein. That's what ZOE is recommending and I highly believe in their approach (and been applying it since couple of months).
Definitely. From what I heard of other centenarian and blue zone videos, especially legumes repeat a lot. I guess almost or completely plant based works pretty well
You can definitely gain muscle mass later in age and we have plenty of good examples of that (Joan MacDonald for example). I would be very curious to see the details of that study and what kind of training they were doing within the six month period- bc it sounds FISHY to me.
i wonder if the exercise was monitored or self reported and what they ate was monitored (highly unlikely) or self reported. also, some people with no experience lifting weights have a tendency to not push themselves very hard.
I don’t think a general rule is 1 g of protein per pound. You maybe confused it per 1 g? 180 g of protein for a regular 82 kg person is hard to achieve.
Well, I’d agree on the protein. Mike ain’t getting it …. hence his crepey skin. Lack of proper fat and collagen in his underlying tissues is not facilitating his skin to attach to muscle tissue. Go check out pics of Jack Lalanne in his 90’s … way different tissue attachment underlying his musculature. With that said, Mikes calorie restriction is probably allowing for him to utilize his remaining muscle mass to his overall weight as best possible. So rather than beat a “dead horse” over the protein recommendation … eat the dead horse with a good amount of fat. This is the most under utilized source of quality protein in the USA. Wild horses and burros often have a negative impact on the quality of their environment. Degradation of pasture and high desert habitat is often severely affected. These animals should be harvested under supervision and utilized as a protein source. Other countries eat horse and burros as well as cows. Why are cows considered less intelligent than horses is beyond me. I’ve seen some really smart cows and some ornery dumb horses. Both would be best served as steaks and roasted. I’ve digressed. Keeping a diet free of processed foods looks like one of the tricks here. Single item foods rather than most anything packaged and having a nutrition label is a good direction. Adios to sugar, seed oils and artificial sweeteners as well. Great video for its comprehensive look at this 100 year old guy and his wife as well. An old friend of mine years ago got married at 87. I asked him, how was that going for him. He mentioned a few things about companionship and doing things together. He closed as he walked away… hey, there’s still lead in the old pencil too! He outlived her and passed in his mid 90s.
Mike was a regular visitor to Sharon Woods, a park in Cincinnati. He was there to run. His Nickname became Marathon Mike, because he was always running. Good to see him still going, I've missed him at Sharon Woods.

Currently riding 30-55 miles a day and documenting it for my great grand children and anyone else who wants to see my progress. Looks like I am doing most everything he is doing, hopefully I will get the same results. Thanks for the video 😃
That's so incredible. Your family is incredibly lucky to have you

IMO, the old age simulator can be a useful tool for those willing to take it seriously.
even 1 pull up at 100yrs old is freakn impressive
i can do 0 at 40 😐
I bet half the students on college campuses could not do a pullup for a million bucks
EVEN WALK! at 100 years... even be alive 😱
He does better pull ups than fat strongmen like Eddie Hall and Brian Shaw xD
Even waking up at 100 is impressive
You're singing my song. I love projects
Ahhh this was such a wholesome watch - I LOVE stumbling across channels with uplifting messages and community connection. Thank you Leon and team for creating this video 😍
this is the best informational video on longevity, its not only useful its also actually well narrated. i love this video man
Thanks for covering the coolest grandpa I could ever have.
God fearing Man. Precious to all.

Really like the writing and setup of this! The content is getting better man! If a 101 yr old can hit pull ups, I got hope! 😆
Yeah this really was an improvement!! Weiter so Leon :)
This was so CRAZY good! Every video truly feels better than the last. Big L on UA-cam for not properly recommending these great videos, total injustice.
Couldn’t agree more. Been watching Leon for years
You can turn this around
Please tell me you left. Toxicity is hard to deal with. Love will get you there.
So dramatic. Man up.
Thee ultimate conquerer of life's challenges even of old age ,is the strength and power of purpose.
Holding onto a youthful mentality I believe can be very helpful. If you start acting old, you'll naturally feel older. Both mentally and physically.
Totally agree, keep a youthful mentally , mixed with positivity, game changer💪💪

good story. Mike's current wife seems extremely nice and friendly, definitely a keeper !

2 other brothers passed away in their mid 80's, but they smoked.
mid 80s is still pretty good for heavy smokers
Cold exposure is definitely amazing I have to say

Take small steps brother but at the same time dont regress or atleast do your best not too good diet will take you far

My question is how does his heart keep beating at that age with the demand. Apparently 1 in 36 thousand men die from sudden cardiac death when exercising and the chances raise with age. Hes a very lucky guy or his heart genetics are superior.
He has more practice
at 05:10 when he looses balance...when the oyunger guy helps him..brought tears to my eyes, so much care and respect for old persons is not always a given ( unfortunately ), I know he was on camera, but the moment..priceless.

I've adjusted my view accordingly, so thanks for this video
very wholesome story. more simple. you really highlighted the character on this one and made it not only about protocols he follows but his life and personality.
this video is GOLDEN... done so much studies on this topic, and this video summarises it all soooooo well.

It always astonishes me that someone that old can move and do things. Even just being alive. It's incredible. The labour of a centenarian.
I hope my cat can live to be about 23 yrs old and still do things like this guy.
My dad 88 is still doing pretty good.

and works if you work at it. You are swimming uphill, but it is a compassionate lifestyle. Congratulations.
It's extremely unhealthy to be vegan and it shows in this guy's lack of physical strength and near 0 muscle mass 😂

Wow i didnt expect this video to make me tear up lol. But when you mentioned that he got married when he was 70 and has been with his wife for 30 years.. that got me.

"If you don't die......you live longer." - Profound. It was worth watching the whole video for that nugget of truth.
Ετσι λενε ολοι οταν μεγαλωνουν..
A good portion of stability is having strength in the lower body.
This old man was so cute. His positivity and the way he insists on doing things himself that people his age usually don't, reminds me of the sweet old man from Squid Game.
The point 6 is the f*cking key... I learned in a hard way

@wendywitchner6790yeah, low muscle mass because plants don't provide bioavailable protein 😂

I guess almost or completely plant based works pretty well
Eat beef and dairy and you'll be healthier
Damn 100 bucks per death???
Gotta raid the Woodland Mansion for totem now 😂😂😂😂😂
That's the key to getting past 100 everyone is missing: Totems of undying !
You can also crush them to put it into your drinks. 😋
You can definitely gain muscle mass later in age and we have plenty of good examples of that (Joan MacDonald for example). I would be very curious to see the details of that study and what kind of training they were doing within the six month period- bc it sounds FISHY to me.
Totally agree! That doesn't make sense!
i wonder if the exercise was monitored or self reported and what they ate was monitored (highly unlikely) or self reported. also, some people with no experience lifting weights have a tendency to not push themselves very hard.
Yeah but it's harder!
I don’t think a general rule is 1 g of protein per pound. You maybe confused it per 1 g? 180 g of protein for a regular 82 kg person is hard to achieve.
It's easy but I wouldn't expect you to know. Sure it sounds like a lot for a little woman like you. 😂
Especially on a vegan diet. How can you restrict calories, while hitting 180g of protein on a vegan diet, I have no idea.
Pretty sure the recommendation is 1.6 gr per kilo, or 0.72 gr per pound. Must more doable.
Vegan here! I just need to quit smoking and exercise more. I want to live up to be a healthy 100 as well. 🙌🏽💚
