Having grown up in Montana, my father was a cowboy, so we had a lot of meat and potatoes as our staple. There was a time in the 80s when the price of meat escalated 25% in a very short time, and I decided to reduce my consumption of meat over the course of two years, then began on my quest as a vegetarian, and have been one for 40 years, and at 77, I look at least 20 years younger, am an extreme walker, meaning anually walking between 4200 to 6400 kilometers a year, whereas my car barely gets in 200 km. I buy only fresh fruits and seasonal vegetables, cook everything fresh, bake my own breads, and avoid all processed and packaged foods. I know what goes into everything I eat, including having quality control. Several of my ancestors lived to be a ripe old age, and I'm looking to do the same, enjoying life everyday.
I am on a diet plan of higher protein, which is meat or fish, lower carbs, white rice, and sourdough bread. I also look 20 to 25 years younger. I have veggies and fruit. Not smoking or drinking. I grew up without fridge, so I cook all my meals fresh. I do not use microwaves. I have cacao drinks and green tea every day. I am 68. I went to Machu Picchu and Rainbow Mt a year ago. I was fine with the altitude. I am planning to do Everest base camp next year.

I would add: In addition with the need to exercice daily: avoid sedentarity, you can exercise daily and still be sedentary if you stay sitting 8h a day.
Working as a GP myself I take off my hat for this man, his attitude, his clear words, his speech and his charisma! I give information like that everyday to my patients (in 10 minutes;)) and I know they understand. But at least here in GER, where health insurance is mandatory for everyone it seems like people have given away the responsibility for their lives because they "pay insurance" to cover an unhealthy lifestyle. Giving an example: after a newly diagnosed Diabetes they listen to the, by me, recommended lifestyle changes that could prevent a lot of the upcoming consequential damages. Then I'd guess about 50% of the patients are willing to change their lifestyle, while the other 50% from the beginning on want pills and continue as usual - because they see the responsibilty for their health somewhere "outsourced" in a monthly paid insurance. Of the 50% initially trying to change their nutritional habits, about 30-40% fail after the first 1-2 years. Only around 10% (and that's an optimistic guess!) really stick to lifestyle changes, and even with initially tremendously bad laboratory results they manage to get along with no, or very very little pharmacological aid (at least in the case of Diabetes). Don't get me wrong, regarding my own lifestyle I'm surely no saint, but for ethical reasons I haven't eaten meat or fish the last 25 years, living vegan about 8 years now (not fully strict, especially when I'm invited, but I don't buy any animal products). Less of everything surely would save us alot of our "luxury" diseases.
Good information. Just one thing to wider your awareness. There is no such thing as ethical animalfood avoiding. Everything around you in nature is a live. Think about it and less brainwash, ideology or propaganda. Just think with your own head. Good luck!

When he was talking about sugar and triglycerides he brought up ice cream. Ice cream usually has quite a bit of saturated fat. It seems a lot of people confuse simple table sugar with desserts. It adds more confusion to the masses.
I got to the point about the coworker who ate ice cream before going to sleep. He didn't just eat sugar, but milk, cream, additives and a lot of fats, especially saturated ones. We never reflect that no one eats just sugar, but combines them with something else which is often worse.

Another great video! As a 9 year Vegan my wife and I enjoy seeing all the work that goes into putting out all this info in such a high production way. I do have one question on what Dr. Scharffenberg said and I was wondering if you might have the study so we can look it over. He talks about the benefits of exercise and that even if you do have some of these "poor health" habits, that a person who is active will far better. I hope this is true and would like to see the study he is speaking about. Could you share it please? And keep up the AWESOME work!
Would love to read this study too. Having friends who genuinely struggle with weight despite dietary changes and exercise, the mindset is still very much “exercise for weight loss and to look acceptably thin”, rather than for “exercise for long-term health, regardless of the weight outcome”. Chris, please keep up the great work, I introduced your interviews to my partner and he thinks you are a wonderful storyteller.
@marcusoshea6081 we've only been domesticating animals for about 10,000 years and farming for not that much longer but we're about 2 million years old as a species. So you're not right.
True, as you have to get rid of the male "bobby calves" that are of no use to the dairy industry and cost money and space eating the grass or grain at the feed lots. Female only. As well as the cows have to go to the abattoir after their milk production goes down again to help with logistics and profits. Again why all the male chicks in the egg industry get dispatched soon after birth( have you seen those horrendous machines they grind them up alive in?) as they don't produce eggs. And they aren't suitable for meat production like the broiler chickens bred for their size, and quick growth. So yes you can't have a productive dairy industry etc, without a meat industry. This is how all farms are run in the western world.
@marcusoshea6081How would that work? How are you going to keep milk flowing without new calfs and what are you going to do with all those extra female and male calfs? Keep them and feed them until they overflow the environment? I guess that's what actually happened because nowadays they are being eaten in India, or sent off to be eaten in other countries. And making hens lay hundreds of eggs per year instead of the natural 5-10 is also mistreatment.
Here in my small town in Vojvodina, northern Serbia, I knew and know few centarians. Each one regularly ate traditional cuisine, with red meat and sugar in home made cookies. No one was and is even remotely close to vegetarianism. What they all have in common, though, is an optimistic and cheerful attitude. My own Granda lived over 90 enjoying animal fat. No one overindulged, of course. I get suspicious when somebody is so zealous in promoting something, because it's obviously not the solution that is one and only.

This man is unfathomly based. He looks great, he looks the same age as my mum, she's 74 and very healthy. My dad who is 73 looks far older as his body is racked by lung cancer and heart disease and diabetes all self inflicted. I'm vegan and overweight and 50 this year, but I've been losing weight after a bad year last year. And as a teetotal, non smoker, who is off the sugar and oily foods my GP is pretty happy with me as long as I keep losing weight. This guy makes me happy to think I could do it, I could live to 100!

Wow!! Great story, thank you for sharing!!
How long did your father live?
I am on a diet plan of higher protein, which is meat or fish, lower carbs, white rice, and sourdough bread.
I also look 20 to 25 years younger.
I have veggies and fruit.
Not smoking or drinking.
I grew up without fridge, so I cook all my meals fresh.
I do not use microwaves.
I have cacao drinks and green tea every day.

1) I think when someone reaches 100yo in as good as his mental health is I wonder what he does to maintain that aspect of his life? That is at least as important if not more so to be 100 yo. Maybe offer several pointers and tips about how to do this.
2) Also, I wonder if there is any genetic tests he can take that is an indicator for a longer health span or lifespan?

WONDERFUL LECTURE...WORTHY OF EMULATION BY ONE AND ALL FOR A HEALTHY AND LONG LIFE...❤❤❤...
Fascinating! Thanks so much for such an informative post. 🙏

Just one thing to wider your awareness. There is no such thing as ethical animalfood avoiding.

He is a vegetarian, not vegan. Vegans are unhealthy, while meat eaters live the longest and vegetarians live the second longest.

A vegetarian world is a meat world. There is no dairy and eggs without the meat industry.
That's right but at least he is leading people in the right direction. Often times, we say a pure vegetarian diet to refer to a vegan diet.
@marcusoshea6081 You know that India is the largest beef exporter in the world right? India is the land of hypocrites.
Kudos to the Gentleman who can walk his talk. Quite a charmer and in no way looking a 100.
Thank you for sharing this! Quite inspirational! Health truly is wealth!
You're welcome! Yes, in that sense he's one of the wealthiest people alive!
Amazing 100 yrs old 👍
Here in my small town in Vojvodina, northern Serbia, I knew and know few centarians.
That's awesome :) Them no overindulging, and having positive attitudes, definitely sounds key!
Yes, overzealous and tied to Harvard etc... What about the increasing number of carnivores reversing major diseases?
