Richard Overton's journey has been such a source of inspiration here at National Geographic, and we hope you'll join us as we continue to celebrate his amazing life.
Rest in peace
I remember seeing your report a few months ago, and telling myself that other people still alive lived through so many different times.
I have just learned of his death, I look again at your report, and I tell myself that things that were contemporary even yesterday, now belong to the past.
It's a pretty weird feeling.
(sorry for my English)
Rip Richard😭😭😭
Just came across this clip today and found he just passed away today. RIP Mr. Overton

Crazy how he was that old and was still sharp, no Alzheimer’s or dementia, the things that usually affect old folks, I know he’s gone now, but I can only hope by the grace of God that I can grow that old and be that badass
nicotine fights dementia, but I'm unsure if it works through smoking cigars. I do know the nicotine patches provide that.
@@vlekarmy5424 when you smoke a cigar and the smoke passes through your mouth and nose nicotine is absorbed through the lining of your mouth and mucous membranes in your nose, that’s all I know though. Perhaps it does
@@thefreshprincer5587 I wonder if there is a study about that...
12 cigar and 4 glass of whisky a day seems his secret. And of course being "grateful" for what he had!
There is a theory, that if someone is needed by his sons/daughters or by any one in the younger generation, he/ she will live longer than someone who lives for his own sake. Perhaps this is the reason this 109-old veteran lived so long.
Rest in peace, Richard. Thank you so much for your service.

I feel genuine sadness knowing that legends like these are leaving us. Men today are rarely like this. These are the true veterans I admire. And this is the reason I respect all that broke their bodies for what they truly believed in. I have met a lot of broken veterans that I can only help in limited capacity. I swear, that I’ll do more once I can. Not just for veterans but the people that need help and are unable to get it. I was saved recently, both physically and spiritually. I want to pass on that blessing to others. God bless you all.

This gentleman reminds me of my great-grandpa. He lived to be 104, and thanks to my family, i got to be present for his 100th birthday, and he astonished me by how he remembered who I am, despite not seeing me for almost 18 years.
When I saw my great-grandpa pour himself a cocktail, I aaked my dad if it was wise for him to be drinking alcohol, and my dad patted me on the shoulder and said "Son, he's been having a cocktail a day since I've been alive. I'd be more worried if he chose to not have a drink."
RIP Mr. Overton, I'm sure you're missed.
I started smoking cigarettes since my teenage. Got addicted for over 28 years. Also suffered severe depression and mental disorder. Not until my wife recommended me to psilocybin mushrooms treatment. Psilocybin treatment saved my life honestly. 6 years totally clean. Never thought I would be saying this about mushrooms.
Amen God bless people. Save your health save your mind. Life is better without heroin, cocaine, alcohol and cigarettes. And you have more money in your pocket. God bless everyone who has rejected the devils intentions to be addicted to alcohol and cigarettes etc which can cause so much damage to health.
Can you help with the reliable source I would really appreciate it. Many people talk about mushrooms and psychedelics but nobody talks about where to get them. Very hard to get a reliable source here in Germany. Really need!
Yes sure of Dr.benshrooms
I hate that psilocybin gets grouped with drugs like cocaine and heroin. Mushrooms are a remedy, not a vice!

Because our western culture and dark forces attempt to create divisions between people and this is just another one; creating generational divides between people that have previously existed for millennia. plus: no TV , no internet , no sex , strong faith

Cats are the best at staying way too clean. They lick themselves all day. The bad thing is they puke because they lick themselves too much. Too clean. When they shit, they like to cover the turd real good, like they'ar ashamed of shatting. Poop chute, but clean and fresh. Crisp.
simplythebest286 if I can be as happy as this man, for that long, I wouldn't mind not having those things
Annalee Poetic you could Declaw the cat
This guy better be the most respected person in his neighborhood

it really makes me smile, literally. Being able to see people who was born 97 years apart from myself is quite astonishing for me. And even if he is no longer in this world, the memories about him will be here forever as long as i live.
Rest in Peace our hero
Such a lovely person. Throughly enjoyed seeing him. Thankyou for sharing this.
“I may give out, but I’ll never give up” hands down one of the best quotes I’ve heard
Yep well said
Well said 👏
Basically his advice is, you're gonna get knocked down, hurt (physically and mentally), fired,/laid off, friends/loved ones leave voluntarily/involuntarily, but even if they take it all, it's on you to decide how to react.
I agree 💯
@Kyle McCloud that’s very true. Words to live by.
“I may give out, but I never give up.” -Mr.Overton
SOUND IN THE CITY You are a wonderful person for doing that quote.

Oh my god I'm just doing my usual end-of-the-video comments scrolling and he says that sentence right when I read it. Perfect timing. Wow.
