  • Grinnell Glacier Overlook is by far one of the best viewpoints in Glacier National Park. Granite Park Chalet via Granite Park Trail is just one way to access this incredible overlook. The popular Highline Trail also connects to the spur trail to Grinnell Glacier Overlook. The Loop section on Going to the Sun Road is the trailhead of Granite Park Trail. Granite Park Trail winds through the forest with views of several mountain peaks including Heavens Peak. Rest at Granite Park Chalet after climbing the many switchbacks that it takes to get to the chalet from the westside of Glacier. The Granite Park Chalet is an icon of Glacier National Park. This is a great spot to take a break before heading up to the overlook. The spur trail can be seen from the chalet going up into the Garden Wall. Be prepared for a full day in Glacier as this trail is nearly 12 miles and close to 4,000 feet in elevation gain. The Loop section has limited parking spots so an early start is a good idea.

    Hey Matt, this is an excellent video! Do you think that the peak that you and Dalton scrambled up to was Point 8479?

    • @TheMountainMatt
      @TheMountainMatt  Рік тому +1

      Thanks Ken! It's gotta be it or very close to it. We scrambled up about as high as we could from the saddle. One could drop down a little and keep traversing as there are good class 3 moves all along that garden wall section. If we had more time that day it would have been super fun to traverse that whole ridge-line as the research I've done indicates that it's possible. There are some very good detailed books written by Blake Passmore that detail most peaks out there 👍🏼. I've purchased all of them and they have helped tremendously with planning my routes. So many peak in so little time! Cheers!

    What the the reason for not taking the Highline in and then back down the loop? Just the amount of people that way?

    • @TheMountainMatt
      @TheMountainMatt  3 дні тому

      Yes, pretty much. The Highline is amazing but is a zoo. Also, you'd have to coordinate a hikers shuttle.

    Nice, like the added scramble at the end. Got Wind River on the docket?

    • @TheMountainMatt
      @TheMountainMatt  Рік тому

      It was to irresistible not to run up to that spot 😁 just wish we didn’t have all that smoke, I can’t complain though. We had a full week of perfect weather last August when we went back 👍🏼! I do have the Wind Rivers on the list 😁 the trails there I so long we will probably have to backpack it. Unless I can convince Dalton to super long day hike a bunch of it someday. I may save that range for when Emily and I move out west 🤔

      @@cristianhernandez1045 it’s a beautifully groomed trail the entire way so you should be fine 👍🏼. I would try to get up to “the loop” on Going to the Sun Road early to get parking.
