  • The Cut Bank entrance and Medicine Grizzly Lake sit on the east side of Glacier National Park and offer a beautiful place away from the crowds. Triple Divide Pass and Medicine Grizzly Lake will most likely reward you with complete solitude as the distance to these remote areas is substantial for a day hike. There are plenty of good campsites near Medicine Grizzly Lake that would serve great as a basecamp for exploring the nearby peaks such as Triple Divide Peak, Razoredge Mountain, Mount James and Medicine Grizzly Peak. The trail to Medicine Grizzly and Triple Divide Pass would be great for the trail runner, as the elevation gain is minimal. Cut Bank road is just a short drive north from East Glacier and a short drive south from the Saint Mary entrance. The Medicine Grizzly area of Glacier National Park is perfect for the person looking for a different type of experience removed from the more congested well known areas like Two Medicine Lake, Saint Mary Lake, Many Glacier and Lake McDonald. Medicine Grizzly is a true wilderness escape from the hustle and bustle of the more popular areas of Glacier National Park.

    Love your channel! I did Triple Divide Pass a few years ago. Never thought to drop down to the lake. Next time. I've got a hike recommendation for you. Shanghai La in the Many Glacier Valley. From the Swiftcurrent Pass Trail...bushwack up a drainage to a mountain plateau with a lake. Cross the plateau & drop down a scree field to Iceberg Lake, then out on the trail. We saw only 1 person on the off trail portion of the hike & 3 grizzlies! Highly recommend.

      OOOO YEAH! I talked with the owner of Mountain Pine Motel in East Glacier who suggested that exact adventure 😄👍🏼 ! We opted for Mount Grinnell instead. Next time I head out there I think I'm going to look at that and possibly add "the notch" up to Ice Berg Peak. Great minds think alike 😁!

      @@TheMountainMatt If your going to do the notch, look into taking the goat trail from Ptarmigan Tunnel then down Iceberg Notch. I haven't done it yet but it looks wild!
      P.S. I see your from MN. I'm from WI. We're living in the wrong states! LOL!

    Great Video !
    I've been to Medicine Grizzly Lake on two different occasions but never up to the pass, maybe next time.
    My favorite parts are the meadow leading up to the lake and standing by the big waterfall at the head of the lake and looking back down the valley.
    That waterfall would be headwaters of Cutbank going all the way to the Atlantic.
    Was this hike in April 2023 or later in the summer ? Looks much warmer than April but maybe not.
    Thanks again for sharing and plan to watch your other GNP videos. Headed back there in 2024.

      The waterfalls are otherworldly 👍🏼! It’s so quiet over there it’s great! I’m pretty sure it was the first part of August, we had absolutely perfect summer weather compared to the year prior. Glacier is so good👍🏼! Cheers!

    Just for info purposes but what are you doing about the new permit policy for making videos? I have been hesitant to make any videos this year in the National Parks so far until I find out what other are doing. I think the policy is just an aboslute money grab.

    • @TheMountainMatt
      @TheMountainMatt  Рік тому

      I know right! It’s ridiculous! Not sure how they’re going to enforce that. From what I researched it’s geared towards multi people productions.

    • @boomersoutdoors8898
      @boomersoutdoors8898 Рік тому +1

      @@TheMountainMatt Let's hope so as the application fee, extra charges for more than 2 people and the $50 an hour ranger fee is absurd. I really don't understand what they are trying to accomplish as small creators are not distrubing anyone else nor are they taxing the park resources. I guess that I am just going to roll the dice and see if they enforce it. Great video incidently and I love how your family is out there also.
