good for you. i hiked/climbed Glacier for 35+ years. over 6000 trail miles and 100+ peak summits. it is spectacular. you chose a good hike, albeit there are so many excellent ones. glad to see you didn't have to deal with smoke from forest fires and got some sunshine. thanks for the video. my park days are over and i live in retirement in the Andes (Ecuador). i have thousands of pics, but little video. good job ....
Such an amazing trail with very spectacular views! Definitely agree about the section to the Grinnell Glacier Overlook being as intense as the rest of the hike combined. Also had some animal encounters, including a rather bold mountain goat on the narrow part of the trail near Logan Pass heading back late in the evening when there was hardly anyone else on the trail...now that part was scary! A bit similar to your experience with the ram but made scarier by being on the narrowest part of the trail with the sheer drop.
As someone with mobility issues I'd never be able to hike miles on a trail like that so thank you for taking such lovely video while there so that others can experience things like that vicariously 😊

Very nice video of one of my favorite hikes. Next time go to Granite Park Chalet. It is really fun. For a different hike try going over Swiftcurrent Pass down to Many Glacier. Keep up the videos!
Going to Glacier for 5 nights 4 days July 2025. I am retired and 62 yrs young. This is one of the hikes I have plotted on my Giaia GPS. What time did you get to the parking area? I am staying in East St. Mary at the KOA tenting it. I plan to get to the parking area around 5:30ish, to guarantee a spot. How many hours did it take you and what was your pace per hour? Sorry for all the questions.🤔Subscribed also👍.😂That was awesome right out of the chute you and that mountain goat. He looked at you like “ Excuse me, my bad. Coming thru.” You were so polite saying “Go ahead.”👍
😂 Just needed to usher him along if he didn't understand! I made it into the park before 6 and the parking lot was full, the turnout was a great find, but did add to my hike. The start of the hike went fairly quick except for taking pictures. The climb up to the lookout really did me in. I recommend going very slow instead of trying to get it done quickly. I was extremely tired getting back to the van. The trail was pretty empty on my way back and I made it back around 4. When I was there, they had special requirements for the shuttles and you needed a pass. I would recommend studying the shuttle map and heading down the opposite way instead of making a loop then taking the shuttle back to logan pass. It would cut off some miles!
I remember being over half way and still considering if I should turn back! At least you took it slow and made it to the top! It felt like it was the hill that never ended. I am happy you could see it here instead of hiking up again 😅

The park is beautiful. You could spend a week hiking and still love it! Hidden Lake trailhead also leaves from Logan Pass. I'm not going to miss that one next time!

I was just going to do a little of this hike but am now thinking to push till the end. There’s no way I’d wanna pass those cliff side spots again!!!!
The stretch just past the haystacks is so beautiful and way less crowded since most people have that as their destination. You’ll love the hike! And the cliffs will feel wider in person!

You’re going to love it! And if you have extra energy you can still go to the chalet. This is just an off shoot of that trail. If only I was out there we could run from the goats and long horned sheep together 😂
I had the same experience! I’m happy I didn’t film more on the way back because it was rough! I held out drinking my last sip of water for the final 1/4 mile
So how tired were you “really” after you got in the vehicle and headed out? I bet you were exhausted and probably slept well! Great scenery but looked quite windy and dusty in the beginning. Thank you for sharing!

My wife and I were supposed to visit Glacier/Tetons end of September but got a little apprehensive due to the fire/smoke conditions. It would be our first time and we want it to be as good as it can get! So we are heading back out to Colorado again to explore some areas we have not been yet (the reservation system for RMNP seems like a nightmare...ahh!). Looking forward to seeing more of your adventures!
Understandable that you would want to wait to make the trip. At Rocky Mountain the biggest thing is if you want to go toward bear lake. If you get a permit then go for it! If not you can use the other entrances before 9 am which is when you would want to start hiking anyway. I used the Fall River entrance around 7am with no issues to get to my trailhead to climb Mt. Ida and it was an amazing hike!
Before seeing your video I was thinking of hiking from Loop TH to Grinnell overlook and then down Highline to Logan Pass... But NOW I wonder if the opposite direction might be better... Need a TOPO map...
I think a lot of people start at Logan Pass for that loop because it’s more gradual then it’s steep on the way down to TH. It would be good to check a map. And worth it either way!!
Wow, excellent video. So windy at the start. Now..about the garden hose part, what happens if hikers are coming the other way? Hug the wall? Believe me, I don't know how I'd feel about crossing paths on the open side.
It’s a slow one! I would say it took 8-9 hours. I usually hike 2 miles per hour and that would be 7 hours here, but with the views and elevation it took a lot longer. It was a great one to take slow, but I did run out of water with 5 or so miles left (I saved a drink in case I started coughing, but I didn’t have enough for the time it took!)
I was there at the end of July. This was July 22nd and it seemed like a great time! It was cherry season and there were tons of places to buy cherries along the drive!
Hi! I felt very safe, but as a solo hiker, I always had bear spray with me. The area has bear sightings on a regular basis and all hikers should have it just in case. I usually go on popular trails, but there are stretches where I’m alone and I was happy I had it. I do recommend the popular trails. They’re popular for a reason plus having people around helps incase you need something! Have fun!
I hiked in mid July. It was perfect weather. There is also a hike to hidden lake that leaves from the sand trailhead and that would be a great one to do too!!
so did you walk all the way back to Logan pass after the glacier overlook? Why not continue to the loop snd then take a shuttle back to Logan pass where your car is?
I did walk back to Logan pass. The summer I did this there were restrictions on shuttles and I didn’t have a shuttle pass. I ran out of water and energy with a few miles left so it ended up being a rough one!!

I did it as an out and back which took around 12 hours. There is a loop trail that involves taking the shuttle that would be a little shorter. If you do that, I would start at Logan Pass just for more gradual elevation change. The final push to the overlook is tough stuff. Just save some energy and take your time. Also take plenty of water. I had to drink less in my final few miles to avoid running out. Have a great time! the views are unbelievable!

I think it was a little after 8. I didn't have a pass for the road that day, so I had to enter the park pretty early and I had to park down from Logan Pass to get a spot.
Do you use GoPro and Sony and splice the footage together using GoPro Studio? I find GoPro Studio really tempermental. Do you mind if I ask about your editing software? Your footage is beautiful!
Thanks! I’ve actually been using 100% GoPro footage and throw in something from my iPhone if that’s where I have it. I use iMovie to edit and it goes really smoothly.
This hike is amazing, the park is amazing. We were chased by a grizzly for 1.5 to 2 miles on the highline trail... a bit scary to say the least. But we survived.....

I love the Highline trail, done it several times. also love Grinell Glacier trail and Iceberg Lake trail.

I was so exhausted! Luckily packed some cold drinks to enjoy while changing my shoes and enjoying the view!

It didn’t seem quite as narrow in person but usually one person will stand still as the other one passes. It usually goes pretty smoothly!

Unfortunately this was in 2021, so you had to have a reservation to use the shuttles. You could and should now though!!
