  • The Volvo Rescue bought a 1986 Volvo 240 4 door Turbo B230FT swapped brick! LH 2.4, EZK ignition, lots of good mods and fun times waiting to be restored.
    I put this video together in 20 minutes, and my poor old laptop can't process 4K footage, so it's sloppy; no music, no intro, just a quick shot of our day. A martini didn't help, but it sure was savory!
    Next time, RobertDIY gives me a ride in his T5R

    Can’t stop watching this video. I’ve painstakingly been sanding down my 240 non wagon for a least 3-4 weeks. 4 hours a day because I work. Power sander and by hand. 10 sheets of sand paper per sesh. It’s been a project for sure. And I outta finish soon because it’ll surly start raining soon. Long story short. I’ll be painting it by gun jet black without side trim. In fact I’ve bonded in the small holes. So it’s now a smooth fleek surface.

    Sweet looking old bus you've bought yourself. I actually don't mind the S80 alloys, I think it looks low enough to pull them off with some offset correction.
    However your securing the car to the trailer game is weak. You need some tiedowns for the wheels before you loose a car on the highway.

      Thanks for the advice man! Keep up the awesome videos, and ill keep looking for a brick! :)

    • @gosportjamie
      @gosportjamie 7 років тому +1

      +Andrew Liebner The later 960s and V90 with the 24v 2.5 and 3.0 engines can be very good if they've been maintained well, I know a few that are well on their way to 400,000 miles with no signs of a problem. But, a lot haven't been well maintained and the cooling system, which is already a bit marginal in good condition especially in areas with high ambient temperatures, deteriorates and you end up with all sorts of head gasket and head problems. Find one that's been in the hands of a careful owner for ever and you'll have a great car for not much money (they do like a drink though) but if it's been through the hands of many owners in not much time or it looks like it's been abused, driven into the ground and neglected then just walk away. There are enough around and they're cheap enough that you can afford to be really picky. Buy a good one and maintain it by the book and you could still be driving it in 40 years, they're probably the last of the proper bomb-proof Volvos. Be warned though, some parts that are specific to that car are only available as genuine parts and they are expensive. If you come from an area where rust can be a problem then have a good check of the toe boards/foot wells under the fenders/wings behind the front wheels as 7 and 9-series Volvos seem to like to rust there...

    • @leeping2
      @leeping2 7 років тому +1

      gosportjamie the one that I looked at and test drove had a clicky rear diff, and very very little power when I had my foot to the floor , also was shaky upon braking

    • @gosportjamie
      @gosportjamie 7 років тому +3

      +Andrew Liebner Definitely forget that one. I've never heard of a 960 having diff problems, usually they're virtually bomb-proof so it must have been seriously abused or neglected to hurt the diff. The lack of power certainly suggests that car may have been starting to show signs of top end trouble, but it could also be electronic problems which aren't unknown. The shakes on braking are probably warped brake discs/rotors which isn't unknown on any heavy car with automatic transmission as they do work their brakes hard, but the fact that the seller hadn't rectified what is a simple and pretty cheap problem to fix before attempting to sell the car suggests that they had little idea about vehicle maintenance or just didn't care. All in all, that was definitely NOT a good 960 to buy. I should have said in my previous response that you should be wary of automatic cars with tow bars. Really these cars need to be fitted with a separate transmission oil cooler to keep the gearbox healthy, which is what happened if you ordered the car new with the factory towing package, but people who put tow bars on after delivery often didn't know or didn't want to spend the extra money with the result that the cars got used for towing just with the standard transmission oil cooler which could result in the transmission being overheated which seriously compromises the life of the unit and can also kill the electronic controls in the transmission. So, if you find an otherwise very good car that has a tow bar then check the transmission very carefully, make sure that the fluid is nice and clean and red/pink and smells nice, if the fluid is brown or black, has noticeable debris in it or smells horrible and burnt it means the transmission has been badly overheated and is going to need attention. Similarly, when you're test driving the car make sure all the electronic controls work properly, that the car selects all gears quickly and cleanly and that it shifts gears sweetly and kicks down well. A good car that has transmission trouble could be a good option as long as it is cheap enough to take into account the fact that it is going to need a transmission rebuild as once it's done as long as you don't abuse the car and change the transmission fluid and filter according to the book you should easily get 150-200,000 miles without transmission problems...

  • @gosportjamie
    @gosportjamie 7 років тому

    That car looks like GLT spec. Not sure about the S80 alloys, you might get problems with odd tyre wear with them being front-wheel drive wheels on a rear-wheel drive car...
