- In this battle of the bottes I will put Barrell Seagrass Batch 9 up against A Midwinter Night's Dram Act. 11 Scene 9 and see which one comes out on top.
June/July sample giveaway rules:

We are in Riverside June 29th. We are doing the Burnt Offerings festival. Hopefully we do better than the last one. We got a call for brisket so all was not lost. Barrell Seagrass has some wild finishing so don't get that excited about me liking it.... baby steps 😜

Great Review. I have been on the fence about Seagrass. I will pick it up and by the time I am ready to leave, I have found something else (Usually a Scotch) and put it back. After this review I will add more priority to this.
Midsummer Night’s Dram does not seem to have the value since there are so many choices at and cheaper than that.
I agree the value of Midsummer is very low. If you are ready for a wild pour pick up the Seagrass and let me know what you think of it when you try it. Cheers!
Happy belated Birthday! I've had a few pours of different MWND, and like most Port finished whiskeys, I get a lot of darker fruits (raisins, plums, dates). I guess I should open up the Seagrass and finally try it!

IMO it's a wild ride. If you have a whiskey bar in your area see if they have it and try it.
I have a bottle of Act 5. I’m sitting on it to use as trade bate down the road. The seagrass is over $200+ on Maui😢

Midwinter’s night dram reminds me of a good, aged scotch. You need to take your time with it. Putting it with a high proof super sweet rye would drowned it out. That said, the seagrass is very sweet, but a little ethanol forward for me.
I understand what you're saying about the match up. I think the Seagrass would overpower a lot of matchups... Not just this one. Cheers!
Thanks for this match up. Sadly Mid Winter Summer Night Dream is $250 at a small mom n pop. Barrel Seagrass 16 year is $209. That is the only one available at my Total wine. If there is a cheaper barrel seagrass I’ll buy it.
It's nice to support mom and pop shops, but prices are way to high sometimes. If you have a whiskey bar in your area see if they have the Seagrass. It's a wild whiskey.
I have the batch 10 Seagrass open now like you do. It’s excellent and not as sweet as the previous batches I’ve had. My total wine in Brookfield, Wi. had it for under $70 for the last couple years, but they just jacked all the prices up about 20% for some reason.
20% increase! That sucks!
I have tried both of those... and I own a bottle of MWND, because I value subtlety and balance and dislike 'shouty' whiskeys!
Do you have an older bottle of MWND or a new one? I have heard that they have gone down hill over the past few years. I don't have anything to compare it to because this is the only bottle that I have ever had. Seagrass is definitely a shouty whiskey. Cheers!
@@whiskeyisajourney The full-size MWND I have is Act 3 Scene 2 (the one with the best typography!), but I have also tried Act 2 Scene 1 and Act 6 Scene 3; unfortunately, I haven't had a chance to compare more recent ones...

Best of luck on the competition. What seasoning do you put on your briskets? Do you inject? Has there ever been a whiskey so bad you put it in the water pan of the smoker? Happy Belated Birthday and I hope you kick butt in the competition.
We did not do so well at the Ignite Festival, but we did get a call in brisket, but that's it. I do inject, but I'm thinking I am not injecting enough. I am all over the place with the seasoning. I keep testing new stuff. Kosmo, Meat Church, Heath Riles, Recteq, and a lot more. We are back at it this weekend over in Riverside at the Burnt Offerings event June 29th. I still need to experiment with whiskey in the water pan and the sauce.
@@whiskeyisajourney Oh man. I was hoping for a good showing on the Ignite festival. I hope you have better luck at injecting your brisket. They always make it look so so easy on youtube. I've had injectors clog. Juices shoot all over the place. The ways to inject were interesting too. My buddy told me to inject with Italian dressing. For me i'm primarily an SPG rub guy. I tried the Harry Soo idea with celery seed but you have to be really careful one can taste the celery if not done right. I put stillhouse Bourbon in my water pan one time and the smoke smelled more vanilla like. Best of luck at the Burnt Offerings event.

I got Seagrass and for some reason my wife and I get no fruit flavors. It’s pretty good in general but not sure why we aren’t getting the fruit characteristics.
That's interesting. What are you getting?
A classic whiskey taste, good viscocity, some expected burn at the end. No extra flavors to make it stand out. I like it, but would have never guessed it was finished in anything.
I looked it up and some Reddit comments have said they bought a 2nd bottle and it wasn’t the same (not fruity etc and drank hot).
I'm on my second bottle of Seagrass. I would always have a bottle if it was distributed near me. It's fantastic. Midwinters has fallen off and gotten more expensive. It's good, but overpriced.
I agree with that. The Midwinter's is way overpriced.
This review did not help my conundrum! I am trying to decide between the Seagrass and the Mizunara, entirely different Barrell products and I want both, but am only buying one this weekend....decisions!
The Seagrass should give you sweetness and the Mizunara a little more spice.
