Bought a Z06 with the crazy aero. Took it to Mosport… and became very afraid. The car was so good, my mind couldn’t understand how it was making it around the corners at such speeds. Can’t wait for the spring.

I know I made a comment quite some time ago that there are dealerships in the US with them on the lot. Naples Motor Sports in Naples, FL has had scores of them for about a year. So, they could have cancelled the ordered vehicle and found one close to, if not spot on, to their desired spec and just picked it up. Not sure if they were getting a deal on pricing with the one they were ordering.

Two years ago I built an Emira and submitted it to Lotus. Star Motors out of Houston was my closest dealer. Not one email or phone call in months. Put an order in for a 22 GT500 and actually have been owning it since Nov 22, modified it, makes 875whp. Very happy...

Your video was a big part of the reason I bought my Emira. Have had it for 9 months now and love it. It did end up on a tow truck with under 1000km on the odometer though. 😂 Congrats on the now 1 year old, James!

Honestly love you Throttle House gents. I got my emira a month ago, and I have to say it is absolutely intoxicating. She's beautiful, she sounds exceptional, and she's fast (genuinely 4.5 is plenty). 2nd gear takes you close to 70 and the sound is out of this world. That supercharger just does not stop. I haven't driven ferrari or genuine supercars but I cannot imagine needing anything more. I've had middle aged women in Wimbledon stop me and tell me how nice it is. I've had kids and grown adults alike compliment me, and every drive is an absolute pleasure. I'm obsessed and I have not looked back.
@@johncena-hq1ti looks like the zora is gonna be around 1200 hp, the zr1 is 1,064 rwd, and the zora will most likely have awd and the hybrid from the e ray pushing it to a minimum of 1,200 hp which is going to be crazy to see
I am pretty sure they used to do that, but that is also a difficult thing to do editing-wise, and I think they just recently had someone leave the team, so it might have been the editor. That, or doing something that advanced may have been deemed not worth the effort. OR maybe that was planned, but they ran out of time to edit it and just had to send it without that part.

@@kamprikorn bro, these high end cars rentings have trackers on these cars. You drive hard one of them and they'll limit or disable the car entirely. You cant rent a super car and push it. Not for 800 bucks a day at least. It costed 3000$ to buy a circuit package for a 3 lap package on a track with a ferrari or a porsche.
@@AI-qd4vb it depends which company you go with. the one i rented from had a tracker but we pushed it anyways and it wasnt limited or disabled. if its not on the agreement then they cant do it.
The only real argument for the Z06 not being a supercar is that it's not $690,000 with only 420 produced. Regular well off people can conceivably get one. The Incredibles said it better than I could: "when everyone's super, no one will be."
That’s my thoughts, this video was just evidence of what happens when a really high end sports car goes up against a low-end supercar. As a Brit my money will always be with the lotus, but that Corvette was mind bending-ly fast, and a 2 fingered salute to Porsche
People have scuffed the terms so badly, they're meaningless, just use them how you feel..... To be completely cliche, it was better back-in-the-day when there was only "exotic sports cars" and supercars. If it was a normal series production car, 911 (any trim), F355, DB7, etc, it was the former. F40, XJ220, McL F1, etc, were the supercars. Then the term Hypercar come around, and it's all jumbled now. People call the Revuelto a hypercar, I could disagree more.... I can't remember the last time I've heard the phrase "exotic sports car."
The Z06 IS a super car, it’s just not a European/“exotic” super car. But make no mistake, it’s no “mere” sports car, it’s a super car, point blank. The Emira is a high end sports car; there’s nothing “super” about it outside of its amazing looks.
IMO the z06 just has a supercar engine. The car is very heavy and in a lot of ways not built like most supercars if you dig into the details. Chevy throws a lot of HP at it to help bring the perf numbers back up. It undoubtedly achieves there. Subjectively, these cars have very little visual appeal to me. I spend maybe 3s checking them out when I pass them.

I’ve been waiting a long time to find out if the C8 Z06 puts down a faster lap time than the C7 ZR1. I was not expecting the Z06 to beat EVERYTHING including the freakin 911 GT3 RS!!!🤯
In a bigger track, the GT3 RS will win, it posts better times overall. IMO, the Z06 was targeting the regular GT3, which still has aero, but looking at cornering speeds, they were nearly neck and neck. GT3 RS aero is a step above both and allows for faster cornering speeds, enough to negate Z06 power advantage. GT3 RS is a much more track-focused machine, even as much as both the GT3 and Z06 are already very track focused. It'll be close, but there's enough data on the GT3 RS out there now to know it's a little tick above the Z06...and the GT3 is a little below.
GT3 RS dethroned on track...yeah thats hard to swallow. Plane wing vs brute force, on a small track the force wins. Good thing Round 2 is coming around, GT2 RS vs Zora will be insane to watch

I have been waiting for you two to have the Z06 and put it through the paces. I had hoped that it would beat the Viper ACR on your track, but to see it beat the GT3 RS... WOW!!! I think its a beautiful machine, the interior is finally done correctly with a Corvette, and the performance you get for the price.. its a Supercar. Well done on another banger video.
@@markw9512 As someone who owns a Gen V Viper, and tracks it, the Kumho tires aren't remotely to the level of the new Cup 2Rs tires. They are better than the Cup 2 standard tire, but not the Cup2R.....however, they currently do not make the Cup 2 R tire in the sizes of Vipers. The ACR would in fact be .5-1s faster with those tires than with the current Kumho setup.
It would be. As a die hard Corvette guy, the GT2RS will probably be faster on most tracks, maybe with the exception of some like VIR. But overall performance and road driving would be fun to compare.
@@Marcello2005 yeah, I have to remind myself that a gt3RS has only about 500 n/a hp to show those lap times, I can only imagine what a gt2rs with ~800hp will show. Although if a Zora is planned to be a 1000hp awd hybrid monster, then it will be interesting to see. The zr1 will be probably a zo6 with turbos bolted to it.

A while back I tried to make the same comparison between these exact cars and no one out there had compared them truly. Since then I decided on and bought a z06 and got it a couple weeks ago. I am in love! Just a weapon of a car.
@@NegativoZ06 not the 1/4mi track and I have yet to seen a side by side race with BOTH on Cup2rs.. So far they give numbers running with the ps4s.. Cup2s make a difference. Then also 2 it depends on the Track. Ones with long stretches no doubt the Z06 will do great.. but ones like these guys used with lots of turns. It would be a nice show for them to do one with both cars. For some reason no one really has for some reason head to head.
The Z06 is the greatest sports car ever made. When considering daily drivability, cost of ownership, amenities, and performance, it's the GOAT hands DOWN

just subtract 2 seconds for high performance cars and 4-5 seconds for normal ones..that's roughly the amount of time Cup 2s would save on each lap. The Cayman GTS would def beat the Emira if it used the same tires I'm honestly a little disappointed with the Z06's time given what it got in Car and Driver's Lightning Lap competition

As soon as I saw the picture of Lotus Emira and the Z06 I knew I have to drop whatever I'm doing and watch this first. It's true! I learned something after I watched the video. Do not buy the vehicle if it's not yet on dealer floor. But after all, I agreed with you both. The Z06 is still the best bang for the bucks. Now, I'm eager to see you guys testing and track test a new Corvette e-Ray vs whatever you guys would like or can to think of. May be a Revuelto or Emira again or a new Fairlady Z Nismo or a new 911 hybrid. I'll know if I've to stop by roadside to watch it once I see the main theme picture of the video 😅. But I must say this is the best automotive video I ever watched. Got me giggling all the way. Good job dudes.

Put it this way, a used lotus mira cost $143k CAD and a brand new C8 corvette 1LT cost $91k CAD (and would still match the mira on any track with the regular base 6.2L V8). If it were my money, I'd take the C8
I love Porsche's, my dream is a GT3, but this new Corvette has everything the GT3 RS has. The engine is just as special. The looks have grown on me, you can drive it without looking like you're heading to Le Mans... The feel? Don't know, haven't driven one... But to be honest, even here in europe where the Z06 is 200k Euros, the Z06 would be the car to buy between these two... Would still prefer a manual GT3 tho. Now I am going back to my bicycle.

I started following you guys a little after you start and within the first year of following you became my favourite Canadian car reviewers. Keep up the great work
I mean, TBF, they don't really have a single undisputed super car on the leaderboard. They're a bunch of cars like the corvette that people argue about whether or not they make the cut. Some people consider the GT3 RS a super car, some argue the only 2 911s that qualify are the GT2 RS and Turbo S. Some people would say the Viper ACR is a super car, some people argue it isn't. They need to get some undisputed supercars like a SF90 or the new lambo around the track, so we have a good comparison.
My z06 was built on Wednesday, and I can't wait to pick it up. That said, it's not really a "supercar" because it doesn't have the exclusivity element. It's a bargain sports car with "supercar" performance.

I knew the Z06 would probably beat the C7 ZR1 and the base 992 GT3, but I would've never expected a convertible Z06 on the aluminum wheels to beat a GT3 RS on any track. I'm sure there are even more tenths to shave off with the carbon fiber wheels and the coupe taking off another 150 lbs.
@@hummingbird9149 You probably aren't wrong, but again, adding the carbon wheels and switching to the coupe would shave off more time. Even being close to the GT3RS is a win at half the price.
@@diverxpl I mean it has 150+ more horsepower than the GT3, and some very big grippy tires, so Im not surprised its fast. But on most race tracks the GT3 RS is going to be faster (regular GT3 as well, if they're very twisty), due simply to how much faster it can go through corners and how much later it can brake before them. Hagerty did a racetrack (willow springs) comparison with a real racing driver, and despite some long straights, the GT3 RS still beat the Z06 by half a sec.
@@diverxplThe GT3 RS beat the Z06 couple with carbon wheels around Willow Springs by 7tenths, and that unlike this was a fair test with both cars running on the same track and same day.
C8 Z06 IS a Supercar. Supercar is about performance stats - and the C8Z has them. Exotic? No. That doesn't change it from being one of the most high performing, only NA V8 flat plane crank V8 mid engine Supercars you can buy new on the planet right now.
@@mikedelape6609 - while I am a huge fan of the C8 Z06, your volume count is not accurate. The first year with massive production and materials issues - you are close to correct - it was between 5-6K cars. Now GM has upped that number. This car will likely trend around 25-30K cars, perhaps as low as 20K. The 458 Italia was around 15K cars for all years and types - so it isn't far off. The C8 ZR1 - like all ZR1's will be the true Supercar exotic - with a sub 3-5K car run - overall. Which is less than a McLaren 720S (just under 10K). THe engine is exotic - in that it is a FPC NA V8 - the only new FPC NA V8 of its kind in production today - so we agree there.
To me it’s not because a supercar must be made of exotic materials and be rare. Just like a 911 GT3 is also not a supercarin my eyes. But that’s not a bad thing, because supercars are way more painful to maintain and are less usable
No it is not. A sports car does not turn into a supercar by adding options to it. It remains a sports car, albeit a very fast and capable one. Same goes for the 911. A supercar must be a supercar from the start, not optioned up to be one.

Not only that, this Z06 is not equipped with carbon fiber wheels. I'm sure a Z06 - Z07 coupe with the carbon wheels would be at least half a second faster

When I'm James looked over and said "That thing is ****ing gorgeous" I said to myself "yeah it is" and Thomas then repeated my sentiments word for word. Yeah, it is gorgeous.
Love my C8Z htc, had for 17 months. The front and side views are beautiful. The rear could use a little work, emira rear is beautiful and side profile.

The idea of a mid-engined car is to go around the corner as fast as possible. Getting the back end to come around under throttle is a flaw in my opinion. Not sure why all these UA-camrs nowadays think if a car doesn’t power-steer the rear out it’s considered a bad thing. That being said these are the two best car reviewers on the planet.
They certainly are two of the best reviewers, and very enjoyable to watch. You are also right about losing traction. There isn't any quicker way to lose time than to lose traction. A Lotus is a momentum car, and the key to that is to NOT kick the tail out or slide around, and it's setup to not do that. That doesn't look dramatic however. It looks much more dramatic to slide around with lots of tire smoke because it LOOKS like you're going really fast when you do that, even though you're doing the exact opposite; you're actually slowing down.

Please keep doing what you’re doing, how you’re doing it. A lot of car based channels are breaking up recently but thus far you’ve continued to give consistent content. Please don’t follow their suit
The scientific thing to do would be to run a “calibration standard” car (something generic that they’d keep indefinitely) on every test day to account for changes in driver skill and ambient conditions. If they did that, they could even apply a correction factor to the test car to standardize all the results.
When I see these videos and focus on the entry points on the curve and all the technical stuff on the track I quickly notice that as a Driver James is heavily underrated.

Honestly love you Throttle House gents. I got my emira a month ago, and I have to say it is absolutely intoxicating. She's beautiful, she sounds exceptional, and she's fast (genuinely 4.5 is plenty). 2nd gear takes you close to 70 and the sound is out of this world. That supercharger just does not stop. I haven't driven ferrari or genuine supercars but I cannot imagine needing anything more. I've had middle aged women in Wimbledon stop me and tell me how nice it is. I've had kids and grown adults alike compliment me, and every drive is an absolute pleasure. I'm obsessed and I have not looked back.
Put a Larini exhaust on it. I did and it sounds proper supercar amazing.

I am pretty sure they used to do that, but that is also a difficult thing to do editing-wise, and I think they just recently had someone leave the team, so it might have been the editor. That, or doing something that advanced may have been deemed not worth the effort. OR maybe that was planned, but they ran out of time to edit it and just had to send it without that part.
It is amazing to see that the Corvette C8 Z06 was able to beat the magnificent Porsche 992 GT3RS at the track.

I was actually disappointed going into the Z06 coming from my 720s. Steering felt AWFUL. But the engine is great.
i rented a urus in miami with 2 other guys for $850 for the day.. divide that by 3 its only around $260. fix your mindset and go drive one bro
@@kamprikorn bro, these high end cars rentings have trackers on these cars. You drive hard one of them and they'll limit or disable the car entirely. You cant rent a super car and push it. Not for 800 bucks a day at least. It costed 3000$ to buy a circuit package for a 3 lap package on a track with a ferrari or a porsche.

The only real argument for the Z06 not being a supercar is that it's not $690,000 with only 420 produced. Regular well off people can conceivably get one. The Incredibles said it better than I could: "when everyone's super, no one will be."
That’s my thoughts, this video was just evidence of what happens when a really high end sports car goes up against a low-end supercar. As a Brit my money will always be with the lotus, but that Corvette was mind bending-ly fast, and a 2 fingered salute to Porsche
People have scuffed the terms so badly, they're meaningless, just use them how you feel..... To be completely cliche, it was better back-in-the-day when there was only "exotic sports cars" and supercars. If it was a normal series production car, 911 (any trim), F355, DB7, etc, it was the former. F40, XJ220, McL F1, etc, were the supercars. Then the term Hypercar come around, and it's all jumbled now. People call the Revuelto a hypercar, I could disagree more.... I can't remember the last time I've heard the phrase "exotic sports car."
The Z06 IS a super car, it’s just not a European/“exotic” super car. But make no mistake, it’s no “mere” sports car, it’s a super car, point blank.
The Emira is a high end sports car; there’s nothing “super” about it outside of its amazing looks.
IMO the z06 just has a supercar engine. The car is very heavy and in a lot of ways not built like most supercars if you dig into the details. Chevy throws a lot of HP at it to help bring the perf numbers back up. It undoubtedly achieves there.
Subjectively, these cars have very little visual appeal to me. I spend maybe 3s checking them out when I pass them.

I’ve been waiting a long time to find out if the C8 Z06 puts down a faster lap time than the C7 ZR1.
I was not expecting the Z06 to beat EVERYTHING including the freakin 911 GT3 RS!!!🤯
And it was the convertible Z06, no less. The coupe is about 100lbs lighter still.
Also without the carbon fiber rims!
In a bigger track, the GT3 RS will win, it posts better times overall. IMO, the Z06 was targeting the regular GT3, which still has aero, but looking at cornering speeds, they were nearly neck and neck. GT3 RS aero is a step above both and allows for faster cornering speeds, enough to negate Z06 power advantage. GT3 RS is a much more track-focused machine, even as much as both the GT3 and Z06 are already very track focused. It'll be close, but there's enough data on the GT3 RS out there now to know it's a little tick above the Z06...and the GT3 is a little below.

The ACR they tested, if I remember properly, wasn't the extreme version..
The original OEM tires for the Viper ACR were bespoke R compound tires made specifically for that car. Cup 2’s won’t bring that much to the table.
@@markw9512 As someone who owns a Gen V Viper, and tracks it, the Kumho tires aren't remotely to the level of the new Cup 2Rs tires. They are better than the Cup 2 standard tire, but not the Cup2R.....however, they currently do not make the Cup 2 R tire in the sizes of Vipers. The ACR would in fact be .5-1s faster with those tires than with the current Kumho setup.

It would be. As a die hard Corvette guy, the GT2RS will probably be faster on most tracks, maybe with the exception of some like VIR. But overall performance and road driving would be fun to compare.
@@Marcello2005 yeah, I have to remind myself that a gt3RS has only about 500 n/a hp to show those lap times, I can only imagine what a gt2rs with ~800hp will show. Although if a Zora is planned to be a 1000hp awd hybrid monster, then it will be interesting to see. The zr1 will be probably a zo6 with turbos bolted to it.

A while back I tried to make the same comparison between these exact cars and no one out there had compared them truly. Since then I decided on and bought a z06 and got it a couple weeks ago. I am in love! Just a weapon of a car.

@@NegativoZ06 not the 1/4mi track and I have yet to seen a side by side race with BOTH on Cup2rs.. So far they give numbers running with the ps4s.. Cup2s make a difference. Then also 2 it depends on the Track. Ones with long stretches no doubt the Z06 will do great.. but ones like these guys used with lots of turns. It would be a nice show for them to do one with both cars. For some reason no one really has for some reason head to head.

I'm admittedly a Corvette hater but competing with, much less beating, the GT3 RS for half the price is impressive.
I was also never a fan of the corvette. However, the c8 generation not only looks amazing, but performance per dollar is insane. I am now a fan.
The Z06 is the greatest sports car ever made. When considering daily drivability, cost of ownership, amenities, and performance, it's the GOAT hands DOWN

just subtract 2 seconds for high performance cars and 4-5 seconds for normal ones..that's roughly the amount of time Cup 2s would save on each lap. The Cayman GTS would def beat the Emira if it used the same tires

As soon as I saw the picture of Lotus Emira and the Z06 I knew I have to drop whatever I'm doing and watch this first. It's true! I learned something after I watched the video. Do not buy the vehicle if it's not yet on dealer floor. But after all, I agreed with you both. The Z06 is still the best bang for the bucks. Now, I'm eager to see you guys testing and track test a new Corvette e-Ray vs whatever you guys would like or can to think of. May be a Revuelto or Emira again or a new Fairlady Z Nismo or a new 911 hybrid. I'll know if I've to stop by roadside to watch it once I see the main theme picture of the video 😅. But I must say this is the best automotive video I ever watched. Got me giggling all the way. Good job dudes.

Put it this way, a used lotus mira cost $143k CAD and a brand new C8 corvette 1LT cost $91k CAD (and would still match the mira on any track with the regular base 6.2L V8). If it were my money, I'd take the C8

I love Porsche's, my dream is a GT3, but this new Corvette has everything the GT3 RS has. The engine is just as special. The looks have grown on me, you can drive it without looking like you're heading to Le Mans... The feel? Don't know, haven't driven one... But to be honest, even here in europe where the Z06 is 200k Euros, the Z06 would be the car to buy between these two...
Would still prefer a manual GT3 tho.

I mean, TBF, they don't really have a single undisputed super car on the leaderboard. They're a bunch of cars like the corvette that people argue about whether or not they make the cut. Some people consider the GT3 RS a super car, some argue the only 2 911s that qualify are the GT2 RS and Turbo S. Some people would say the Viper ACR is a super car, some people argue it isn't. They need to get some undisputed supercars like a SF90 or the new lambo around the track, so we have a good comparison.

My z06 was built on Wednesday, and I can't wait to pick it up. That said, it's not really a "supercar" because it doesn't have the exclusivity element. It's a bargain sports car with "supercar" performance.

I knew the Z06 would probably beat the C7 ZR1 and the base 992 GT3, but I would've never expected a convertible Z06 on the aluminum wheels to beat a GT3 RS on any track. I'm sure there are even more tenths to shave off with the carbon fiber wheels and the coupe taking off another 150 lbs.
High track temps make a big difference, the GT3 RS is undoubtedly faster on the same day. They could've proven that by driving them back to back.

@@diverxpl I mean it has 150+ more horsepower than the GT3, and some very big grippy tires, so Im not surprised its fast. But on most race tracks the GT3 RS is going to be faster (regular GT3 as well, if they're very twisty), due simply to how much faster it can go through corners and how much later it can brake before them. Hagerty did a racetrack (willow springs) comparison with a real racing driver, and despite some long straights, the GT3 RS still beat the Z06 by half a sec.

Usually great drift cars are not as fast on track as those who are not. That said, Emira seems to hold corners very well.
C8 Z06 IS a Supercar. Supercar is about performance stats - and the C8Z has them. Exotic? No. That doesn't change it from being one of the most high performing, only NA V8 flat plane crank V8 mid engine Supercars you can buy new on the planet right now.

@@mikedelape6609 - while I am a huge fan of the C8 Z06, your volume count is not accurate. The first year with massive production and materials issues - you are close to correct - it was between 5-6K cars. Now GM has upped that number. This car will likely trend around 25-30K cars, perhaps as low as 20K. The 458 Italia was around 15K cars for all years and types - so it isn't far off. The C8 ZR1 - like all ZR1's will be the true Supercar exotic - with a sub 3-5K car run - overall. Which is less than a McLaren 720S (just under 10K). THe engine is exotic - in that it is a FPC NA V8 - the only new FPC NA V8 of its kind in production today - so we agree there.
To me it’s not because a supercar must be made of exotic materials and be rare. Just like a 911 GT3 is also not a supercarin my eyes. But that’s not a bad thing, because supercars are way more painful to maintain and are less usable
No it is not. A sports car does not turn into a supercar by adding options to it. It remains a sports car, albeit a very fast and capable one. Same goes for the 911. A supercar must be a supercar from the start, not optioned up to be one.

It was never mentioned in the video, but it's noteworthy the C8Z was a hardtop convertible which is ~125lbs heavier than the coupe.
In this video they had the HTC? How do you know?

Yep, first thing I noticed! It's the heavier convertible and it doesn't have the carbon fiber wheels that shave 40+lbs of unsprung weight.

The idea of a mid-engined car is to go around the corner as fast as possible. Getting the back end to come around under throttle is a flaw in my opinion. Not sure why all these UA-camrs nowadays think if a car doesn’t power-steer the rear out it’s considered a bad thing. That being said these are the two best car reviewers on the planet.
They certainly are two of the best reviewers, and very enjoyable to watch. You are also right about losing traction. There isn't any quicker way to lose time than to lose traction. A Lotus is a momentum car, and the key to that is to NOT kick the tail out or slide around, and it's setup to not do that. That doesn't look dramatic however. It looks much more dramatic to slide around with lots of tire smoke because it LOOKS like you're going really fast when you do that, even though you're doing the exact opposite; you're actually slowing down.
I’m a grip & rip guy myself. Just ruin tires & suspension parts trying to slide. This was the 1 flaw that Top Gear started
understeer is a flaw too though and will make you go slower round a corner than if the car would rotate the right amount.
Am I wrong but aint it the same thing with Porsche? Like you are not supposed to drift them right?

I think Thomas is getting better at his own track as time goes on.
The scientific thing to do would be to run a “calibration standard” car (something generic that they’d keep indefinitely) on every test day to account for changes in driver skill and ambient conditions. If they did that, they could even apply a correction factor to the test car to standardize all the results.
When I see these videos and focus on the entry points on the curve and all the technical stuff on the track I quickly notice that as a Driver James is heavily underrated.
