But what Widow Tweed doesn’t know is that if a wild animal is raised by a human, and then released into the wild, it’s a death sentence for the animal.
The Fox And The Hound is a masterpiece of emotional storytelling. I can’t get over how relatable and well written the relationships are. Easily one of my favorite Disney movies.
@@nathancruz9172 It really is. If only it hadn't come out come out during the so called "dark age" it would probably be more respected today. Don Bluths exodus from Disney during production also made the movie look bad to many, which I feel is unfair, because it truly is one of Disney's best.
very true! I haven't watched it in a while, but what hit me now was how much of the movie is just silent - the whole climax barely has any words in it and you still feel all the emotions they want you to feel. they let the animation and score do the heavy lifting and it works so well!
@@clarasundqvist6013 I would agree. The best comparison to make with the Fox and the Hound is to Bambi, another movie with a lot of silence that let the animation speak for itself. Even though I like Bambi slightly better, I think the Fox and the Hound expanded greatly on a lot of Bambi's greatest aspects, such as having the parent death at beginning instead of the middle, which still stands as a possible top 20 favorite opening scenes of any film, if not top 10.
Fun fact: Tim Burton was one of several uncredited animators that worked on "Fox and the Hound." He did a lot of the animation for Vixey, and it apparently took him quite a while to get used to drawing in such bright colors since he was used to using more muted ones (as demonstrated by his later work).
It’s kinda impossible not to cry when Todd and the old lady say goodbye. 💔 And the bear is one of the creepiest animated ones I’ve ever seen, still scary to me even to this day lol! The red eyes don’t help. I really enjoyed this because I grew up watching it. :) Seems like a lot of the older Disney movies are hit or miss when it comes to moving an audience, but this one definitely qualifies.
this movie makes me cry like no other. Not even Lion King comes close to the moment when Todd gets released. The scene, the music, the song im balling my eyes out everytime the scene starts. One of my favorite movies. Thanks Cody for reacting! ♥
Yeah, this movie is very, very good at breaking people who watch it, especially those who have/had pets. I'm glad to see you reacting to it. It's great
I remember my grandma had 2 VHS movies, and this was one of them. I watched it every single time I went to visit her, and she reminds me so much of the woman in this movie. I talked to a classmate and she had never seen this movie before, so as a good friend I made her, knowing exactly how this movie played out. She was a crying mess multiple times, but then again so was . I love this movie
The scene when Todd is let go didn't really bother me as a kid but now as an adult it really does a bit because of the words in the song: "Farewell is like the end, but in my hearts of memory and there we'll always be". I knew that scene was gonna get to you and Nick reacted exactly the same way
What’s even worse is that putting him in that preserve is worse because it’s a death sentence. I volunteer at a zoo and know from the keepers that a wild animal raised by humans cannot go back to the wild because they don’t have the survival skills that only the parents can teach. It’s why the zookeepers would rather let the moms raise them. The zoo I volunteer at even has a wild bird that was someone’s pet and she can never go back to the wild because she imprinted on humans.
The part when Widow Tweed leaves Tod in the forest to be safe is the most heart wrenching thing that still makes me cry every time I watch this movie. It hits me more than any classic Disney movie
Another guy pointed out something interesting. When Todd and Copper fight, Todd bites his neck, and he had the chance to end him then and there, but chose not to. Red foxes mate for life, so I think they're naturally fiercely protective of their mates. However, Todd still couldn't bring himself to kill his former best friend. I also think Chief should have died. Oh, btw, the bear is not a black bear, it's a grizzly bear. Black bears don't have that hump on their shoulders.
The first time I saw The fox and the hound was when I apparently never cried at films. No matter how sad the situation was I'd be stone cold but the "farewell" in this film broke my heart so much I was bawling my eyes out. *Even now, as an 18 year old emo...I shed a tear*
Amos is actually a really interesting character from the small amount of screen time he gets. He’s not necessarily a villan as much as he’s a man doing his job in the time period he was doing it in. Context matters, when Chief was chasing Todd, Amos had no idea that Todd was just over to play. Foxes are known to kill chickens after all, so from his perspective it was a pest trying to kill his chickens. Not all of his actions are ethical, but he’s human and entitled to mistakes. In the end when he realizes that his hate had gotten the best of him… I think it’s a really beautiful scene between Amos, Todd, and Copper.
Exactly he is not in the wrong in the beginning knowing things from his point of view, where he messed up was making it personal, never make it personal

I had completely forgotten about this movie! When I saw the thumbnail however I was struck with massive nostalgia from when I was a kid back in the early 2000s. It was one of my favorite movies, and it’s hard to even understand how it had left my memory. I never noticed until years later that they gave the woodpecker a speech impediment. A funny small detail added to make the character come more to life
Yes i was hoping you would one day react to this film Cody! The Fox and the Hound is one of the saddest yet most iconic and memorable animated Disney films of all time, although a lot of people kinda think that the ending could've been better but it was still better than the ending to the novel since both Todd and Copper die, but anyway this film is perfect to watch for when someone needs a good cry.
@@geekasaurusrexy It's actually quite terrible and traumatizing. What Commenter Dragon said is correct. And it is actually not just that they simply die of old age or something. I like The Fox and the Hound, it’s a good Disney film with a great cast of characters and a nice story about two unlikely friends. My favorite characters have to be Dinky and Boomer. Besides the two title characters, they are the most memorable ones imo. I like to see this film every now and again, it’s a fun and emotional tale.😌
Pat Buttram, the voice of Chief has one of the most recognizable voices(aside from Paul Winchell as Boomer) because he was also featured in other Disney titles like Robin Hood and The Aristocats as the Sheriff of Nottingham and Napoleon the dog.
While this movie is no Disney masterpiece, one of the most moving endings in the studio's history is its final image of the two main characters: united yet separate, their bond destined to outlive - but never quite heal - the hurt they've caused each other.
Even though it diverged from the book on bleakness, which was a bit different, the story of friendship and testing it out came out very strong. I remember watching the movie for the ending.
😭😭 I’m old and saw this in the theater when it was out. Probably at the drive-in. Broke my heart back then, and would break it again now (I haven’t seen it in years! My kids never appreciated classic Disney, heh).
This was one of my favorite classic Disney movies that I would watch on repeat as a kid. The first moment they talked about being friends forever, I was already crying.

This story is truly sad two BEST FRIENDS becoming slowly Hunter and prey. It broke my heart cuz it showed me that not EVERY friendship is ment to hold forever. Even if Cupper and Todd are friends in the end they will never be like in the old days🥲
First off, I love your reactions. Your honest emotions and reflections that come from your own experiences make all the difference in a great reactor. Thank you for being you!! I think this was the first movie I can remember crying in at my youngest age, re-watching it in my mid-teens. It's not easy to cry at a movie when you're young because you don't have real-world experience to relate to. Moving on. The voice of the hunter, Amos, is the grandpa in the original "Wonka" movie from 1971. The voice of the badger happens to be in one of my favorite movies, "Turner and Hooch," a Tom Hanks movie from 1989. In the spirit of not ruining that movie, I'll only say that he's the old man on the docks, when you get the chance to see it.
Mickey Rooney was the voice of Tod. I saw him in Night at the Museum. Kurt Russell was the voice of Copper. I saw him in Sky High, in the Fast and Furious movies, Guardians of the Galaxy, The Christmas Chronicles movies.
I read the book as a child, my babysitter when I was younger bought me the book to read as a youngster. At the time I was just thinking of the Disney version of the book. I was surprised as to how the book was, completely different from the movie.Todd ends up killed by the hunter, One of the dog is actually killed by his owner because the owner was going to go to a retirement home. Very dark book to read when you’re a young child
My experience was similar. I found a copy of the book at a relative's house when I was 11. I read it, and couldn't put it down, even though it was so grim it gave me nightmares afterward...
The fox and the hound is one of the Disney classics and part of my generation growing up watching through VHS, another of my all-time favorite Disney classics is Disney’s Robin Hood which I like because it’s also deals with animals woods and it’s just a great movie, I highly recommend it!!!!!
There's a reason it's a classic. So many older movies have such a good connection, even now, that it's worth going and looking through them and check them out. That's really true of the older Disney movies; so many of them have such simple lessons that people can still relate to them. While this one has never been my favorite, the scene where she releases him back to the wild is still a knife to the feels.
Its kind of sad that modern disney wouldn’t want or be able to tell a story like this anymore, this movie is rather bittersweet in an old disney way possible cause it also gives us an open ending, maybe its possible that Todd can visit Copper and the old lady any time he wants but that would risk his life, Vixie’s life and possibly the growing friendship between the old lady and the hunter, so its better if he just stayed far away to keep the peace
19:30 That part makes me cry😢. But she did a right thing. If Tod stayed with her, Amos will kill him and it will breaks her heart. So, she must put him somewhere safe and away from danger and not to get hunted. 19:41 I am with you Cody. I cried as I am older when I young. It’s still gets me. 😭
I love the fox and the hound movie, i use to have the movie on DVD. And I always loved both Todd and cooper being best friends, because they deserve to be friends forever.
The scene where she releases Todd into the wild always makes me cry. The way he cocks his head when she leaves and he doesn't understand why never fails to make to cry my eyes out. I grew up with this movie and I'm so glad I've seen it. And yes, Chief was the dog that helped hunt down Todd's mother with Amos.
It was (and still is) common for voice actors to do animal noises as it's hard to get certain noises that the directors wants by just recording animals (or some cases impossible). Like, Clarence "Ducky" Nash (the original voice of Donad Duck) did the dog barks in 101 Dalmatians, Jimmy McDonald (sound effects man at Disney and the second Mickey Mouse voice after Walt himself and mentor to late Wayne Alwine, third Mickey voice and sound effects guy at Disney) and Candy Candido did bear growls in a lot of Disney movies including this one, Candido also the growls of the crocodiles Brutus and Nero in The Rescuers, June Foray did the cat sounds for Lucifer in Cinderella and since the 80's Frank Welker have done several animal sounds for many movies and animations including Abu and Rajah in Aladdin, Charles the Bulldog in Space Jam, Max's barks in How the Grinch Stole Christmas, The lion roars in The Lion King franchise, Cree-Kee the Cricket in Mulan I and II, Fleet in Pocahontas, to name a few. Sure, you can record animals but sometimes you can't always get the right type of sounds depending on what you look for, especially when it comes to certain characteristics that are hard to even for professionals to train animals to do, so when you can't do that, you have to look for voice actors to do sounds. Heck, the barking and howls of the Wargs in The Lord of the Rings were done by Sound guy David Farmer as they had a time crunch when needing the sound effects but you can't tell they don't sound like animals.
I love this movie but I can't rewatch it. It always makes me cry. Todd getting released is always so heartbreaking. Cooper and Tod's relationship ending.
I remember i watched this movie for the first time when i was abt 5/6yo in the 00's & i loved it so much! I didn't understand a lot tho. Now, understanding it, i tear up even from beginning & i can't stop it til the end.. Any other movie can get me like that.💔💌
The Fox and the Hound!!!!!! Todd and Copper!!!!!!!!!! I LOVE FOX AND THE HOUND!!!!! Fun fact the actor who played the stork looking bird is Paul Winchell who voiced Tigger in the Winnie the Pooh!!!!!
The book that this movie is based on had a much darker ending where they both died, Todd died from an exhaustion induced heart attack and Copper was shot by his owner because he had gotten so old that he couldn't do much anymore.
Not only that but Copper’s master was also going to a retirement home, so he had to shoot the dog because they’re weren’t any pets allowed at the retirement house
A childhood favorite of mine. The car ride still makes me cry to this day. 🦊 me and mom still quote we’ll always be friends forever. Yeah forever.” To each other.
You just warmed my heart by saying that you love animals because I love animals as well and I'm happy to know now that at least we got that in common 😊🥰
Thank you for this reaction. This underrated film definitely shows the value of true friendship and the reality of friends going their separate ways. Those old days are gone, but never forgotten. The the film has a lighter tone than the original novel. The original novel is much darker and more emotional. Both the Fox and the Hound in the novel reach tragic endings. 🦊🐶
One of my earliest memories is seeing this at the movie theater with my dad. I was 5. It’s still my favorite Disney movie, but I can’t watch it very often because it makes me cry.
This is my favorite Disney animated movie I guess because my favorite animal is a Fox 🦊 but as much as I like it I cannot watch it again. It’s really heartbreaking holy crap.
There's a family of foxes that decided to set up residence right in the middle of my college campus and it's so adorable. I always see a crowd of students gathered whenever they're out playing. Don't worry, the college officials have set up a boundary around the den so no hunters will be going after them. Edit: 24:20 wait a minute, That's just about as many babies that are living on campus!
You know, my favorite thing about this movie is the bear fight. I think it sucks that the bear only got one role, but I have to admit, I guess it is a pretty important role. Here's this dog trying to kill this fox even though they used to be friends, and yet the said fox still attacks a bear to save the dog. Foxes don't normally do that unless either cornered, or crazy. And in return, the dog realized the truth about the monster he had turned into, and then repays the favor by not letting his master shoot the fox they were after.
In my opinion the Fox and the Hound is not only better than most of Disney's films of the past 20 years, but is one of the greatest animated films of all time. It only has a bad reputation because it came out during the so called "dark age" of Disney (Aristocats to Oliver and Company), but it's an emotional masterpiece with great characters and is one of the darkest and ballsiest films Disney has made with one of their best casts (Mickey Rooney, Kurt Russell, Corey Feldman, Jack Albertson, Pearl Bailey). I hope one day this film gets the respect it deserves, as well as Oliver and Company, another unfairly hated animated film that deserves better.
Pixar's Disney always make me cry but from the old Disney classics ones this one and especially the scene where she released him is probably the one who make me cry the most of all of them 😭
19:09 Unfortunately, what Widow Tweed doesn’t know is that what she is doing is a death sentence for Tod. When a wild animal is raised by humans, they never develop the social and survival skills that only the parents can teach them. Had it not been for Big Mama and Vixey, Tod likely would’ve died within a couple days.

@@DamonNomad82 same, it traumatized me as a child. Still in this day it still traumatized me
disney fans dont know true disney sadness till theyve watched this, im crying all over again
When she gives him up it rips my heart out every time I'm such a crybaby when it comes to sad movies
I grew up with this movie and that saying education or elimination, I took that is more than just for an animal's term, that's life.
The fox and the hound is one of the Disney classics and part of my generation growing up watching through VHS, another of my all-time favorite Disney classics is Disney’s Robin Hood which I like because it’s also deals with animals woods and it’s just a great movie, I highly recommend it!!!!!
Me too.
It's such a great movie, I remember watching it as a kid, it's a great movie.
Me too.
Actually, putting him in the wild is almost worse because it’s a death sentence. Since Tod was raised by a human, he doesn’t have any survival skills.
Bambi came first. Bambi was released in I believe 1942 and The Fox and The Hound was released in 1981.
Bambi was 80 years ago, The Fox and the Hound was over 40 years ago, 41 to be actual.
How could it be Amos and Chief when Chief was at home at the time and Amos was bringing Copper home? I don’t think it was them.
Balled my eyes out when I was a kid and now I try not to as I’m older 😂
When I was a kid, I was TERRIFIED of that bear. Just the whole big black shape in the dark? Absolutely not.
I love this movie but I can't rewatch it. It always makes me cry. Todd getting released is always so heartbreaking. Cooper and Tod's relationship ending.
In case you may have forgotten, Amos Slade, the hunter, was voiced by Jack Albertson who was Grandpa Joe in "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory".
I’ve got two basset hounds (copper) and they are so adorable just like copper
The book that this movie is based on had a much darker ending where they both died, Todd died from an exhaustion induced heart attack and Copper was shot by his owner because he had gotten so old that he couldn't do much anymore.
And todd had two families, both killed
@@ines0499 Yep
Yes. And that was just the tip of the iceberg. The book is beautifully written, but is one of the darkest and most depressing stories ever.
Not only that but Copper’s master was also going to a retirement home, so he had to shoot the dog because they’re weren’t any pets allowed at the retirement house
Her releasing Todd to the wild isn’t like a punishment or her giving him up. I always saw it as her realizing he’s fully grown and a wild animal.
A childhood favorite of mine. The car ride still makes me cry to this day. 🦊 me and mom still quote we’ll always be friends forever. Yeah forever.” To each other.
When ya posted this only a couple minutes before I started watching I was already crying seen this so many times as a kid. Still makes me cry😭
You just warmed my heart by saying that you love animals because I love animals as well and I'm happy to know now that at least we got that in common 😊🥰
You not alone on that
Thank you for this reaction.
The voice of Amos Slade the hunter also played Grandpa Joe in Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory
This is my favorite Disney animated movie I guess because my favorite animal is a Fox 🦊 but as much as I like it I cannot watch it again. It’s really heartbreaking holy crap.
OMG this is my childhood ❤ I remember having this as a DVD
bambi came out in 1942 and the fox and the hound came out in 1981 if you wondering!
I knew that. And I was just gonna say that.
Happy 12th Anniversary Marvel Studios "IRON MAN 2" (May 7, 2010)!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (R.I.P. Stan Lee)
I love this movie
Edit: Bambi was 1942, this was 81
I am watching this while working and "that scene" made me cry. Always does no matter what.
And in return, the dog realized the truth about the monster he had turned into, and then repays the favor by not letting his master shoot the fox they were after.
i mean....... in the novel it's based on chief dies, disney just didn't wanna go that far
I watched this movie so many times growing up and I would always cry. Then I watched it again while I was pregnant, big mistake... I was bawling hard.
fox and the hound another childhood fav
Pixar's Disney always make me cry but from the old Disney classics ones this one and especially the scene where she released him is probably the one who make me cry the most of all of them 😭
Todd getting released is still one the saddest scenes in Disney history
19:09 Unfortunately, what Widow Tweed doesn’t know is that what she is doing is a death sentence for Tod. When a wild animal is raised by humans, they never develop the social and survival skills that only the parents can teach them. Had it not been for Big Mama and Vixey, Tod likely would’ve died within a couple days.
So adorable 8:44
Hey, Cody you should do reactions to these movies;
- Disney’s Tarzan
- The Wild
- Pocahontas
- Disney’s Dinosaur
I still love this movie
26:48 back when I was 7 years old, that scene freaked me out
When I first watched this as a four-year-old I was infused I was heartbroken and to this day it still makes me cry let it out Cody you’re not the One you’re not the only one Cody who still cries to this day I still cry at Bambi let it out let it out Cody you’re not alone,. You’re not alone cry your heart out’
Me: *sees Fox and the Hound*
Also me: This man about to be hit with an emotional nuke.
probably the first movie to make me cry as a child
Yes! I wait for them! Thank you for reaction! And now I will subscribe to your channel!
Bambi come out first, if I remember correctly Bambi was a 40s or 50s movie
Edit: Just double checked to make sure, Bambi came out in 1942
This age of Disney really hurt.
Littlefoot's mom dying and Tod getting released are hands down the two saddest movie moments from my childhood. I remember watching both movies in elementary school and every kid in the class was crying.
With the Owl Lady helping Todd. Reminds me of Longclaw from the new Sonic movies
A classic Disney movie but the end part of their friendship break up, was sad.
I see where you coming from, but at least the movie ended on a somewhat happy note. Plus, the ending relates to real life cause it’s basically saying that eventually we have to move on. But I still understand where you coming from
This is my moms favorite movie of all time, She and i watched it all The time when i was A kid until The VHS tape broke around 2006. That was The first time i ever saw my mom cry😅 I few years ago i downloaded this movie and gave it to her as a birthday gift and judging from her reaction im pretty sure it was The best gift she ever had haha. Now we watch it once A month together just like when i was A kid. Still The best Disney movie of all time i say! But that bear still scares me...🤣
