Note that the tank is a model used by the Empire during its ground invasion of Hoth. The CX-291A was well-suited to frigid temps and difficult terrain. Though the tank was not shown on screen, it accompanied the AT-ATs on a very wide flank.
Very nice, appreciate the context, always makes the story better👍🏻
Hoth was filmed in Finse, Norway...this is Lapland in Finland
I'm pretty sure that's a cold war era soviet T-54 but it's definitely not a German tank or a ww2 era one
While it preformed well, it was only a matter of time until the CX-291A replace the Nazis M1 Abrams.
Cantankerous
Yes, the Abrams platform was eventually going to fall out of favor. The production pace of the Abrams was too great for quality to remain high. Harley-Davidson plants were stretched to the limit and besides, the V-twin engines were very noisy in the Abrams.

Finns confused on whose side they fought.
They literally fought on both sides... First against the USSR to retake lands lost in the Winter War, and then against the Germans once the terms of the Continuation War dictated that they had to drive out the German forces from Finland.
I think your nutrient rich diet of cabbage, vodka and sulfur dioxide has rotted your brain so much you are incapable of reading a little bit of history
Bro they were confused THEN
@@OmegaJuggalo Not really, just pragmatic. The allies didn't give a shit if the USSR annexed the entirety of Finland or not so the Finns had to get any allies they could to keep their independence. And once the Germans started losing to the allies, they had to sue for peace with the USSR, which meant agreeing to their terms and driving out the Germans. War makes strange bedfellows.
There's nothing "pragmatic" about siding with the Nazis. The Finns could have pragmatically accepted the border losses in the winter which they lost in the end.
And there is no historical record of them actually fighting against the Germans. The Soviets gave them a good deal in 44 and they took it.

»The book of the generation of Jesus Christ, the son of David, the son of Abraham.
Abraham begat Isaac; and Isaac begat Jacob; and Jacob begat Judas and his brethren;
And Judas begat Phares and Zara of Thamar; and Phares begat Esrom; and Esrom begat Aram;
And Aram begat Aminadab; and Aminadab begat Naasson; and Naasson begat Salmon;
And Salmon begat Booz of Rachab; and Booz begat Obed of Ruth; and Obed begat Jesse;
And Jesse begat David the king; and David the king begat Solomon of her that had been the wife of Urias;
And Solomon begat Roboam; and Roboam begat Abia; and Abia begat Asa;
And Asa begat Josaphat; and Josaphat begat Joram; and Joram begat Ozias;
And Ozias begat Joatham; and Joatham begat Achaz; and Achaz begat Ezekias;
And Ezekias begat Manasses; and Manasses begat Amon; and Amon begat Josias;
And Josias begat Jechonias and his brethren, about the time they were carried away to Babylon:
And after they were brought to Babylon, Jechonias begat Salathiel; and Salathiel begat Zorobabel;
And Zorobabel begat Abiud; and Abiud begat Eliakim; and Eliakim begat Azor;
And Azor begat Sadoc; and Sadoc begat Achim; and Achim begat Eliud;
And Eliud begat Eleazar; and Eleazar begat Matthan; and Matthan begat Jacob;
And Jacob begat Joseph the husband of Mary, of whom was born Jesus, who is called Christ.
So all the generations from Abraham to David are fourteen generations; and from David until the carrying away into Babylon are fourteen generations; and from the carrying away into Babylon unto Christ are fourteen generations.
Now the birth of Jesus Christ was on this wise: When as his mother Mary was espoused to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of The Holy Ghost.
Then Joseph her husband, being a just man, and not willing to make her a publick example, was minded to put her away privily.
But while he thought on these things, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife: for that which is conceived in her is of The Holy Ghost.
And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins.
Now all this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying,
Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.
Then Joseph being raised from sleep did as the angel of the Lord had bidden him, and took unto him his wife:
And knew her not till she had brought forth her firstborn son: and he called his name JESUS.«

Don't get me wrong, this looks awesome. but i can't ignore the fact that the title card shows it to be in 1944, which is also indicated by the weapons and the Nazi uniforms all fitting the WW2 theme. But the tank shown on screen is a T-55, a soviet tank produced from 1955-1981, that barely ever saw service in neither Finland or Eastern Germany. leaving me a bit confused as to why it's there.
I thought it would be obvious? budget is the reason, have you got any idea how expensive it would be to hire a real German tank, working panthers, tigers, pzr4s are obviously very rare, and evidently mocking up the t55 to make it look more german was too expensive, I recommend watching films like "bridge too far" and "battle of the bulge" whilst the allied factons had historically accurate tanks the germans were portrayed with modern day leopards and pattons

Until 1944 , Google the Lapland war, where this film is based
Yes. But per surrender deal (Moscow Armistice) Finland made with allies and soviets, all german troops were to flee Finland and while Nazi troops were fleeing to german occupied norway, the Finns escalated the situation into warfare on 28 September after Soviet pressure to adhere to the terms of the armistice. This caused short lapland war between Finland and Nazi forces.
