"Better Call Saul" recap: He wasn't always Saul Goodman, ace attorney for chemist-turned-meth dealer Walter White. Six years before he begins to represent Albuquerque's most notorious criminal, Goodman is Jimmy McGill, a small-time attorney hustling to make a name for himself. He's a forceful champion for his low-income clients, an underdog whose morals and ambitions often clash. Jimmy works with private eye Mike Ehrmantraut, a former Philadelphia cop and recent transplant to the Southwest. Mike has a specialized skill set -- he's a "fixer" of sticky situations -- that Jimmy soon learns to appreciate.

I love when an older seasoned actor gets their time to shine. He did so good in this role it’s insane. Complete suspension of disbelief in every scene he’s in. This clinches it, he’s my favorite character in this universe.
A master class in every scene.
He is THE ultimate badass. Almost everything (if not everything) he does in the show is believable, within his abilities and the world the show creates. Brilliant writing, and incredible acting. probably my favourite ever character too!
I've been a fan of Mr. Banks for years and years. It's nice to see him finally get the kind of rôle and recognition he deserves.
Mike and Jesse Pinkman -- my faves!
I put him in the same class as Lee Van Cleef
The failure to give Jonathan Banks an emmy during those 2 shows is a disgrace.
Criminal, this guy put on a more convincing performance than any A-List actor out there. I’m glad he got a shot with a hit show and that so many people appreciate his dedication. At the end of the day any movie award show is really just a combination of good sales and insider connections. Emmy or no, people know and appreciate how great he is in BCS and Breaking Bad, absolutely love the old guy.
53 nominations for BCS, not one Emmy award. Disgraceful.
@@DevanLundabsolute chicanery. What a sick joke!
The only tough scene to act was breaking down over Matty. Apart from that, Mike has a poker face 95% of the time, so he probably has the easiest character in the cast.
A great character, but I wouldn't know about Banks. He may or may not be great, but we wouldn't know from this.
@@babbisp1Yeah I agree, acting awards tend to go to those with a wide range. He plays Mike perfectly, it’s just not a character written to show off an actors chops.
Mike being a Vietnam vet holds his character together so well in both breaking bad and better call saul, the man has serious skills in deception and weapon handling which feeds his ability to perform crime and punishment in equal measure while under pressure, truly one of the best written characters in a TV show for a very long time.
This is an uncomfortable poop. It is mostly diarrhea. It's uncomfortable, but at the same time it is one of the most satisfying poops. It feels like a load is being taken off of my stomach area. Also, I didn't have a good poop for 2 or 3 days, so this feels relieving

@@michaeldoran4367 what the fuck are you talking about, gonna edit that comment and change it later I'm guessing?
@leafertrash7341 What? Why the fuck would I do that? Change my comment why? I'm not going to return to a random old comment just to edit it. I was commenting on my poop, because that's what was happening at that time
@@michaeldoran4367 I thought you were a troll, my bad
22:20 Mike getting shot there is massive for the story. It’s what makes him seek out an underground doctor to tend to him in Albuquerque, introducing him to the vet and the underworld.
Yea without the Pryce job he would've never met Gus
It's incredible how in BCS/BB one single, seemingly minor event can make a world of difference. Ghilligan loves to use Butterfly Effect to his plots and worldbuilding.
@@pablo_giustiniani and in the final episode of BCS we see Jimmy look back on the moment Chuck offered to help Jimmy with his cases. Perhaps he was just thinking of old memories but it seems pretty obvious that if they had talked it out there, none of the tragedies in BCS or BrBa would occur
Too bad Mike underestimated Walter, but he was right that Saul shouldn't have gotten involved with him.
Most original comment in the world. Thanks
i don't know that mike ever underestimated walter, but he definitely underestimated saul
He never underestimated walt. He knew what kind of person Walt was. But he had no choice instead of working with walt. He needed money for his granddaughter.
@@hasan_0.0.7His grand daughter wasn’t dying of cancer or anything lol, you think he needed to be in the game for her?
@@jackduggan911I think he’s referring to the end of the show, where the cops were on mikes ass and he needed his GO bag regardless of whether Walter brought it. Mike did underestimate Walter tho, he never expected Walter to steal his gun and kill him with it, either that or he was so panicked he slipped up.
As someone who lives in philly, i can confirm it has a blue tint to it. Better than the yellow tint of mexico i suppose.
I really love how all of Mike's plans actually make sense. Especially the shoes one as you realize why he's firing shots.
Mike out there playing checkers while everyone else doesn't even know they're in the game
everyone else playing subway surfers
The quote is he's playing chess while everyone else is playing checkers..lol smh
@@RedDeadGunslingerOutlaw You're a genius
@@facemash agreed
Everything about the 'red shoe scene' was perfect, the build up (getting the bag of drugs) the false 'hunter' shots, the camera work from above as it spilled out, and the long tracking shot at the border......sublime!!
"We were just supposed to scare you, that's all"
"Well try harder next time"
The first scene alone demonstrates just how patient and careful he is in the execution of his plans. He had no interest in shooting Hector’s men, but also didn’t want them to be too alerted when he fired off his rifle at the shoe with cocaine inside. He had to fire off enough shots to have them let their guard down by the time he got the cocaine to sprinkle onto the truck. Quite the expert at reconnaissance and planning.
Oh is that what we just watched?
YUP!

Mike is one of the most badass and dangerously intelligent characters devised by modern writers!
You should’ve included the phone call Mike makes to the cops before he hits tucos car. It just helps show how much he planned it out
My fiancial situation: If Tuco saw my bank account he would have given me the 400 $
I want mony too
Tuco would walk off rob someone
Give you the money
Then Rob you
I like how these are all him using silly, random items to his advantage or playing dumb
social engineering at its finest
4:33 they must be thinking ‘shit, they take littering around here serious’ 😂
😆
Gotta love how even someone as batshi* at Tuco still has high respect for his elders
I'm sure respecting elders is something that's drilled into you in the Salamanca family
Mike Ehrmantraut is an all timer.
I love how in the second clip he's listening to the game on the radio while staking out the house.
Gus needs a spin-off but a spin-off of a younger version of Mike is what we really need. AMC make it happen! 💯
The grist mill of justice turns slowly but grinds exceedingly fine.
You're missing one of the most clever scenes. The way Mike swapped the tracking device to make the hunter become the hunted was absolutely magnificent.
the moment Mike's wallet became Walter White
comment so dumbass and unoriginal its actually funny BRUH
No.
These houses have no squeaky floor boards
That's the reason why he's mine and a lot of people's favourite Better Call Saul and Breaking Bad character
lol hilarious at how as big of a bully Tuco was he truly had patience for Mike
I would have loved to have seen a series of a young Mike in Vietnam and rising in the ranks in the Philadelphia PD.
Love it, makes them stop, think the shot(s) was just local hunters, sprinkles drugs on the truck and they were none the wiser.
8:36 imagine right around this point someone threw the lights on and the music scratched to a halt.
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
@@freepalestinedestroyisrael Fkn bummer embrace the uncomfortable.
That would’ve been the end of the kettlemans to be honest Mike wouldn’t have let that slide😂
I began to weep 😪 when I heard Mike say “you killed Matty you killed him for nothing”. His poor wife Stacy and daughter Kayleigh thank god Mike found that out on his own. Imagine the saddness and frustration they would feel when hearing it
@13:45 LMFAO at the best "Who *ME* ??!" look ever. Fuckin hilarious and priceless😂🤣🏴☠🏴☠🏴☠
12:38 "We were just supposed to scare you, that's all." "Then try harder next time." Honestly... is there a more badass line in all of the Breaking Bad universe?
Mike was the best on the show
omg im just found your channel and the edits is insane
Ur mom is insane
Mike’s food was ready forty seconds after he ordered it.
Mike made the show. Period.
Amazing how calm Tuco was
Tuco was cast perfectly.
Proper clips. A lot cut out the preceding couple of minutes and it makes less sense. Beautifully played part, cool as fuck and totally on top of the situation.
yes, i have to agree those are great mike scenes, the last scene of the corrupt cops is by far my favorite... then the red shoe
I love the tennis shoe bit it shows real creativity.
The red shoes plan always seemed far fetched to me. Mike left himself a window of about three seconds to focus his aim on the shoes from a great distance and hit them just perfectly so that the drugs flowed out.
Well, this is TV. You want reality, ya gotta go outside to see it 🤠
Maybe Mike is part of Delta team 6
I think it's implied that Mike served in Vietnam given his age, the time that the show takes place, and him being highly skilled in sharpshooting and recon.
I would love to have seen how he got the shoes with powder in them up there...
@@MrWunterslausch
In one of the episodes prior, he filled the shoes with coke and threw it up there.
he spent some time practicing throws with a normal pair of shoes until he got it right.
Safe to say those dogs were probably high as hell
Legit wish I could go back in time and watch BB and BCS from the beginning.
This is why he was so into it to never dumb Mike down. Mike is this genius tactician dawg.
But walter kindof backstabbed the guy
Outstanding!
Still havent watched the saul series yet ,one for a weekend binge i think
Mike proves that the old and smart can rival the young and strong.
We need MORE MIKE!!!
I just want to hear Banks say "Well Cuzzzzzz" one more time. I will watch everything he's in until that time. If you don't know what I'm talking about Jonathan Banks has had a LONG career and of the notable roles he's played in, such as in the minor parts he had in TJ Hooker and Hill Street Blues. Above all he's in one of the movies I have religiously watched over and over. It's Beverly Hills Cop(The first one). If you talk about Banks, that's really where I first remember him as being notable. He didn't have many lines but the one lone "Wellllllll Cuzz" is pretty fucking great.
" Well cuuzz, how's that bump on your head doin I gave you back in Detroit"? When I popped your little buddy
I just can’t began to imagine the pain grief and guilt Mike had when finding out the cops were the ones who killed his beloved Matt
never underestimate your opponent
unironically I wanna see Johnathan Banks as Mr Magoo.
Magoo....you've done it again!
I always saw him as Elmer Fudd.
Mike's a very smart character shouldn't of gotten too close to Walter White.
Shouldn't have
@@benkuehn7469 It's really common nowadays.. "should of" People never really learnt what it is, just what it sounds like.
@@nemishasharma5737"common" doesn't mean right, that's why simply informing people that it's 'should have' or 'shouldn't have' is what usually happens, there's no malicious intent, just trying to inform those who don't already know
@@Samuel85228 you don't have to tell me.. it's my latest pet peeve to see "should of" in YT comments
@@Samuel85228You misinterpreted their tone because you believed they would do the same.
I love the music.
Great music too.
You left out too much of how a couple of these scenes worked. You ended the "Framing Tuco" scene too soon and you skipped the setup for how he offed the two dirty cops-him stuffing the loaded gun in the back seat and faking how much he had to drink.
Dont mess with the best!!!
I feel like there could easily be a part 2, 3, 4, and 5 of this.
There hasn't been a more proficient cleaner than Mike in movie or television history.
Best old in word
only the most hardcore gangster understands to true value of a dog
Tuco frightens the shyte outta me.
The scripts are well written .
Be awesome if a good Samaritan going fishing found Mike and saved him.
You can clearly see that that house does have curtains. These people chose to live that way. Like a people aquarium.
Mike is my favorite character on BCS and BrBa. I was so shocked and sad when he came to his demise, it was undeserved.
Though mike deserved what he got out of obsession with Walter. However he earned my respect and sympathy after watching his backstory
*You had to get up very early to get over on Mike… nobody ever did!*
All cars that pass this road will be polluted
Wish u included how Mike found the GPS tracker GUS planted on him and palced it in his Goons car instead
BCS, BB & EC on blue ray is worth your $$$.
Kettleman is damn rich. But they dont have security cameras in their house.
kettleman was generally pretty stupid
check Mike out in 48hrs.
This is the moment Walter's wife drove a Skylark.
Stop
Hmm..Mike is teacupping his guns ^^.
Music slaps
Michael became mike
Mike is a tough old bird
I NEED A SHOW ABOUT MIKE’S PAST
I understand that the way they wrote shooting that shoe looks cooler, but he could have just set a remote-controlled device for releasing the cocaine, make the car drive into a fishing line that releases the powder, or use a silencer for the gun.
Then Tuco agreed to go though insurance and fixed his car. And everything was fine
I dont even know how the writers came up with the shoe one
9:00 That's what she said.
I don't know if the 4th one is really framing, so much as stoking the fire.
the real smooth Criminal got killed by the unpredictable man :)))
Dont understand how Walt took mike out so easily .It was a big moment in the series n given a better send off
Holywood .
Most of this flick is in the dark.
Mike's revolver in the last scene,,,, 6 shots??
Am i getting cracy or is that freaking vaas i see in the framing scene?
I can imagine Mike vs Dwinght Schrute
I just thought it was weird they Mike aim center-mass on an on-duty cop. He would have known he was wearing a vest.
Maybe he only wanted to incapacitate him
oh he knew, hence why he headshot the other guy. He wanted to draw out that kill specifically.
The title inside the video should have been "Mike's 5 most awesome performances", because Mike outsmarted his opponents literally every time.
Unique
Walt shot Jack from the same angle.
music too loud
can powder stay in the van that long?? until dog sniff ? i guess in transport air can clear it ?
grin zone splat
He's not using a silencer, yet firing the rifle right next to his ear. This would send most people screaming to the ground in agony and partially deaf for life. At the NSW Academy, we had to wear ear-gear when firing a .38 S&W two feet from our ears.
Yeah, but he's got the receiver next to his ear, not the muzzle of the rifle. That is about 18" above the plane of his ears, not so deafening.
18″ is around 46cm in Normal units, BTW.
Just remember a high school chemistry teacher full of ego killed this man
