One thing that you didn't mention in your video is that the processor is different. It is now a 6nm processor which requires less power so less cooling is needed, hence the heat sink design change.
Would look cool putting the old black green stand on the robot white series X with the green black stand being more highlighted with the white of the new X
That would most likely require some software modification as well. If the system still has some UI thing to eject discs or such, (IDR if the regular boxes actually have that. ?) then maybe. But I still figure that would be quite a maybe.
I just subscribed to your channels a little while ago and I wanted to say how much I enjoy your videos. The Restorish channel is great too. You've helped me gain a little confidence in working on my electronics, even if it's just upgrading my PCs or general simple repair stuff. Thanks 👍
The little fail at the end, made me laugh, but this is what I was talking about in the discord server, leaving some fails, to show people even the best can do some mistakes 😂👍 great video, and I am certainly waiting the video of trying to put the disk drive into the digital
Looks like your feeling much better and I am glad to see that man! Great video and yes plese do a video checking to see if the old style heat sink cools better than the new or if they work the same. Always interesting to find out. Praying you have a full recovery!
Enjoy watching your videos more than I thought I would. You’re lookin much healthier lately as well. Look forward to seeing how you tear apart the next gen consoles soon.
Hi Steve, something about the power supply is missing. It should have an amp Reading of 12v 21.25 amps. 12v 5 amps should be the supporting rail. So I believe the lowered just the supporting rail for the disc Drive.
Personally I see it as pointless - if you're spending the cash for the all digital version I'd rather spend the extra £30 here & get the full thing when there's less than 10% difference, if it had been like the PS5 then there's a decision, but the £30 in savings is barely worth thinking about. Nice to see it's essentially the same thing internally, should mean the availability of parts is widespread & easy to handle!
I'm not a gamer, but will these "digital" consoles be useless bricks in say 15 years if you pull one out of your closet and want to relive some games you used to play? I assume they all require on line sign in, and those servers will be long gone.
Of course we want to see you transfer the components to see if the disc drive can be enabled :) presumably it would need a firmware flash as well though? Looking good dude.
@@topherd1011 hey man you're the one thinking invisible men exist. people like steve and i have actual knowledge and dont rely on nonsense magic wishes. try thinking for yourself sometime. oh wait, you can't... your religion prevents any common sense.
@@Tronicsfix it honestly has me really worried about my Series X. I love the thing, saved up 3 months for it. I wouldn't want it to become useless because of its SSD. I am strongly considering getting an Xbox One again due to it being more repairable

I absolutely would like a future video with interchangeable components for the disc drive and the heat sink. It would be cool to measure re and after temperatures as well.
I own a SX but I don't really care for these "new" versions. I just clicked the video to see how you were doing and you look good and I'm glad for that. Keep getting better, bro. Cheers from Mexico.
If you do, try to install the disk drive. Before you do any soldering, can you do a closer inspection of that side of the board (I know you would naturally) first? Because just pausing it, other than the soldered parts, there is quite a difference in that area that I am curious about.
Before attempting to swap heatsinks, you'll want to measure the package height of the old vs the new 6nm processor. If the stack height is different you could damage something if you swap heatsinks.
Surely you could place the disk drive components on the new model, but disc would never work as the driver is paired with the board, and that’s done at HWID level which is unique for each unit, but surely would be an interesting exercise
Voltage is push, while amps is pull. So if you install a power supply that is higher voltage than your machine it will blow something, but if you install a power supply with a higher amperage it’s ok as your machine will only pull the amps it’s requires.
Of course we want to see if adding a drive is possible!! So are all the component marking gone or just lightened so you can't see them? If they're gone, that seems like an anti-repairable step!
Isn't the Disc drive paired to the motherboard? Also when it comes to a PSU, the rated amps denotes the maximum amount the PSU can output, It is up to the device itself to request how many amps it needs so a PSU of the same voltage but a higher amperage will work just fine on a system that uses less amps. On the original 360 systems the PSU bricks were always forwards compatible with lower power 360 systems but not backwards compatible as they wouldn't provide enough power that way.
okay, vapor chamber on the new board, try the disc drive but i assume there might be some sort of software limitation when actually trying to use it. in the event it does work, personally id try to cleanly modify the new shell to have the disc drive and eject button usable, but im janky like that :D
Just tell me, does the new heat sink which cools down the SDD, has the same weight to reach the SDD as previous model? Just to know if the SDD cage is worthless, and I can remove it , when I will clean the Xbox someday, happy to know you look so much better since the last time I saw u, congratulations :)
you should definitely try to put the components for the discdrive from the original board on the digital board, it's interesting to know if is can be transformed into a disc version 🤔
I don’t know why they made an all digital Series X when they had the Series S. The allure of the original Series X was that you could still go buy physical copies of the games and play them.
If you are going to try the vapor chamber heatsing on the new Series X, please try it also with the power supply from the older model. Just for the sake of my OCD :D
Do you think they are using some king of thermal pad like the ptm7950 for the CPU? The originale thermal paste Is rectangular on the heatsink, really strange
I want to see someone put the regular vapor chamber on the new smaller chip to see if that does a better job cooling since a vapor chamber is a better cooler than what's on/in the new series X with the pipes. From other videos I've watched it seems like it would fit. Also put the X shield on the new series x that's no longer on there from original series X. Edit: made this comment early in video and at the end tpu mentioned doing what I said lol
I'm seeing a lot of cost optimization in this comparison. Hopefully nothing that affects longevity. I wonder how many of these changes can be found on the latest disc versions?
One thing that you didn't mention in your video is that the processor is different. It is now a 6nm processor which requires less power so less cooling is needed, hence the heat sink design change.
Yep, you're totally right. Not sure how I missed mentioning that. It's even in my notes, lol.
Also, the silk screen is missing on the newer model.
What about the new Series S model?
Would look cool putting the old black green stand on the robot white series X with the green black stand being more highlighted with the white of the new X
that could explain the changes all over the mother- and daughterboard

Steve! You read my mind about wanting to see if a disc drive would work with this console. I'd love to see that. Great video!
Yeah I'm surprised the pads for the components are still there, every one of those boards is a new revision after all.
Me too I'd like to see that.
