Paul: We ignored those warnings and now we're paying the price.
Channel intro: EXCELLENT!
lol they got a cheat AIO thats what you get whrn you are a smartass
Thats broken
🤣🤣🤣🤣
He just needed to lock that drive in the basement with no support like some sort of SSD Fritzl until it promised to behave better.
Paul, I don't know what Steve at Gamer's Nexus is going to be more disappointed with: The fact you didn't take his advice about THAT AIO... or that you're adding RGB fans to Joe's case.
Knowing Steve: yes.
Both
I think he dislikes the software, not so much the rbg.
@Dee Bee I watched a couple of his videos, and had to block his channel from being recommended ... he's just so fuckin' annoying.
@Dee Bee He did more good for the community than us altogether. Maybe: be humble, just a little bit.
I appreciate you for not leaving out the little mistake mounting the fans the wrong way. 👍🏼 Be well and prosper 🖖🏼
The other reason I'm going air over an AIO: As a person who already deals with anxiety isues, that's one (or two or three) things that I won't have constantly at the back of my mind.
Amen! Anxiety's a B!
Preach it man.
i dont understand. what is there to worry about? ive had aio since 10years and never heard about one leaking.
@@FordSierraIS Guess you get out much.
The most shocking thing from this video is that ADATA has a laptop.
Yeahhhhhhhhhhh
and cases and psus too!, bought a case for a build recently and I gotta say its pretty solid, Im waiting for steve to review it. And the PSUs seem solid too considering its in the PSU tier list and quite high there
What if Joe sabotaged his machine because he missed Paul?
Water Cooling has minimum of THREE moving parts: Radiator Fan, Water Pump, Coolant fluid
Air Cooling has minimum of ONE moving part: Fan.
Air Cooling wins due to less moving parts, which leads to less maintenance.
Any good air cooler will even work when fan dies. Most coolers are capable of passively keeping the CPU from overheating.
How often is this an issue though? I honestly would imagine, and certainly for me, my only concern would be the gunk build up because I would presume it wouldn’t have an issue for like 10yrs
@@sheppycider123 depends on your environment and fan speed but in general you only need to clean it like every 1-2 years which is not that bad and a good duster usually gets rid of everything, you don't even have to do a total disassembly, in all my life I only had one cpu fan die on me after like...constant 10 year use lol (originally was my pc then I handed it down to my father who just used it for web surfing)
@@sheppycider123 if what you bought is from china as in a china brand and manufactured in china, its not gonna last you 10 years no way. that i can assure you. you want the least chance possible for failure with water cooling and china brands just don’t build that kind of confidence.

Yep, client of mine switched to the dark rock pro tr4 (from the 280 liqtech). All I've heard is happiness from that. They almost missed having a project ready for a meeting because of the failure, thankfully I had a temporary asetek unit to let them run their PC while we waited for the new parts.
Definitely put a bad taste in my mouth for enermax (but a nice chance to prove my support chops I guess)
Hi Paul, I wanted to thank you for your videos. They helped me get the courage to build my first PC, which I completed yesterday. The worst bit was multiple delays in various deliveries, but it's all up and running now :)

I'm actually really curious to see what Steve finds in this one. That air cooler really does look great though. Beautifully designed!
That nervous laugh of Paul when Joe wanted to keep the spot on the case for some character was incredible.
Always making me laugh

Joel the real one, decent cable mangemant upfront and then SSDs thrown about, an honest to God relateable moment.
Love the way that cooler looks so much. Fits right with the lighting on the graphics card
I love that case! Great airflow, quality, and features.
I’m building a computer with it now. The GPU is the last piece I’m waiting on. Love the case so far though. It’s been a long time since I built a desktop computer and cable management is so much easier than it used to be.
I been through the AIO failing. too much $ for more headaches. I saved my money by buying Noctua and not buying excedrin
Bought Noctua and never looked back.
Bought Noctua and couldn't be any happier!(Well I'd like to add chromax fans with red corners and some fancy top covers for it).
I have X58 so i emailed them and they sent out the mounting kit in 22 days without requiring me to pay any duties or delivery charges(I live in Pakistan where no delivery is free except for Pizzas).
my Noctua won't fit in my case. it's about 1mm too tall. i can close the case with it installed, but it'll cause the motherboard to flex. i'm back to using the stock AMD cooler until I decide on an alternative. i'm leaning towards a new case.
I'm still using my trusty old Arctic Cooling (Yes - they were still called Arctic Cooling back than) Freezer 13 Pro CO air cooler i bought with my i7 2600k ... Never had any issues and it's still quieter than the GPUs i had over the years.
@@Dirtyboxer1 +1 on getting a new case.

That Threadripper RGB light effect looks really awesome!
For some reason that cooler looks particularly sweet in that build. Nice one guys!
For a beefy boy, that installation sure is more convenient and more easy than 99% of the HSF out there.
I recently switched from a custom loop to an all air set up and I couldn't be happier.
I'm just the other way around. 20-30 degrees lower and silent to boot. Love it. :)
@@karaloop9544 I honestly just got tired of maintaining it and also the added cost of new GPU blocks every time I wanted to upgrade. I have a closet full of WC stuff.
@@evo7836 just use distill water mines still fine after a year
I know air coolers are more reliable but it's too much of a personal aesthetic for me. I don't like how any air cooler looks. On a side note, if you're selling your closet full of stuff, I'd love a link to your eBay listing. I'm always upgrading or changing my set up.
@@evo7836 I see, maybe that's me in the future, who knows. :) I'm new to water cooling because my new processor is running hotter than anything before it, ever. Forced my hand, so to speak. I'd have loved a closet full of wc stuff because it's a major PITA to start from zero. With all this gear at least you have the option to setup a loop in the future if it strikes your fancy again.
I only have the CPU water cooled, so I can skimp out on the GPU blocks. I definitely see the appeal of almost no maintenance though, coming from Noctua towers that served me well.
I personally like the look of big air coolers. In my eyes this is a nice upgrade.
OMG Paul vacumes inside the case! Thought I was nuts for wanting to, and doing so for years. Various brushes and a can of compressed air with it ofc.
Wendell from Level1Tech has a vid on replacing the enermax aio coolant, the design is good but the factory coolant is not that great.
I mean Paul should know that seeing as he's wearing Wendell's shirt.
Yeah, but from the context of this video- it being the editor’s working machine- they needed a solid solution as soon as possible. Replacing the coolant seems like a cool idea, but a lot of messing around and time spent that they didn’t have in this case.
Could make for a good future video though!
That removes the reason for getting an AIO in the 1st place, most people want to set it and forget it
@VanillaCoke I don't think anyone expects them to last "forever", not even an air cooler will do that. But I think everyone expects them to last longer than 3-6 months, lol.
My old enermax 240mm aio lasted about 3.5 years before gunking up.
Thats respectable for a 70€ AIO
But at this Point, im not gonna buy any of their stuff Till they sort out their shit
I switched a few years ago back to air cooling. I got caught up in the hype that AIOs were the best thing ever and didn’t realize that air coolers are just so much easier to deal with and have almost the same performance.
With 2 air ducts, air coolers can easily keep up with AIO's.
Hey, love the videos dude super informative! Just one question. What is the program you use to test temps and speeds etc?
I noticed the trend on the Liqtech AIOs and tore mine apart early enough to catch it just as the corrosion started. One thing I'll give to Enermax, that is one easy to service AIO. I did a complete flush and refill with 50/50 premix and it has been great the past two years.
Enermax Aio dies so quickly, GamersNexus covered this topic.
I've bben using corsair aio and never had problem personally
I've been through 2 Corsair AIO Hydro, currently rocking an NZXT Kraken X73. No problems with any of them.
I've had my H105 in my rig for the past 5 years and it still runs like a champ.
Same here, 2 systems, one with an H100i and another with H115i. No issues.
Been running an H80i since early 2014, running perfectly
Trigg3rHippie good luck with the kraken. The one I bought died in 2 months and the replacement I got through rma died in 3. Hope it doesn’t happen to you
*Noctua says a Chromax version of their u12a, is due out later this year.* 😎
Just in time for me to have to replace my second Liqballs, err, I mean Liqtech AIO.
I have the Chromax version of the D15. Looks sick with red noise dampening bumpers!
What about the Ice Giant ProSiphon Elite?!
Nice would that new Noctua version be AM4 ready as well?
They've been saying that for two years now. IT'S HAPPENING!!! Glad it's finally hitting production, those brown/beige colored fans ain't looking to good in my all black set up. Still the best at cooling and airflow tho, I'll gladly spend money again just to change color. You can't go wrong with Noctua. Best of the best at what they do.
Paul, love all the work you, Joe and the others do. My question is what is the model # of the vacuum you use to clean up the dust.
Great video! Enjoyed watching, keep up the good work.
I've looked at different options for cooling over the years and even though, water cooling has it's + or - sides. My latest build with an 3950x, has the plug and play (and mostly forget about it, reliability wise) NH-D15.
What motherboard do you have and is the D15 obstructing much?
@@zarmaanful I looked at a few options for parts and picked a mix. I was happy with and would fit my needs and budget.
Gigabyte X570 Aorus Master, NH-D15 (dual fan), Vengeance RGB pro (2x32=64GB -3600Mhz), MSI-RX 5700 XT 8GB Gaming X, 2x-MP510 1.9TB NVMe (Boot & games), 1x8TB internal HDD (for storage) - 4x8TB external HDD (for backup), Define R6, Gunmetal (no window).
As for how, the NH-D15 effect some parts:
I had move the fan above the ram slots, up a few fins on the NH-D15, as the RGB strip was touching it (low profile, non RGB would have required no movement). The fan still doesn't touch, the case side panel when closed.
Not much space between, the MSI-GPU back plate (2.75x slot card = 297 x 58 x 140 mm) and the bottom of the NH-D15. I can't get my finger's between them to press the retaining latch/clip and the first PCI-E slot. But can use, a plastic trim tool or flat head screw driver to open and close it. if I need to remove/re-seat the GPU or access the 2 the NVMe slots/drives (currently in use) or remove the NH-D15.
Air flow not a problem on the R6 (currently) 3x140 + 1x120 intake and only 3x140 exhaust (not 4, due to an 5.25 optical drive).
I've not done a manual O/C the system and let the CPU/MOBO (PBO) take care of that. Boost up-to 4.7 on 2 cores, between 4.3-4.5 on the rest when gaming/streaming(OBS), benching (prime95, Cinebench, etc). I've not seen the system hit over 80C under load, so far and we had a few warm (30c - 85F) days, with no air-con.
Hope that helps
I had an AIO in my old system. It still works 5 years later tbf.
My mate had one, it broke after 2 years. I'd rather take an air cooler. The performance and acoustics are basically the same but if your fan fails worst case scenario you buy an new one for 15 bucks and stick it on.
Your AIO breaks and you're out of a motherboard. Possibly more.
Acoustic level is not the same because air cooler reacts to CPU load rapidly, while water one has few minutes before temperature raises.
If you take a coper pump and a coper radiator you will never see such corrosion. This is a fact for an elementary school
@@sc0or you do realize as soon as the water heats up from load that point is moot right?
Fans only rev up and down to load if you don't have a proper fan curve set, this applies to fans on radiators as well.
Be quiet air coolers are quieter than most aio
AIO breaks= rip gpu and mobo
@@marcosundah4698 I think you mean cpu.

Great vid, thanks... just one thing made me wondering: wouldn't it be a good idea to get rid of the unused drive cage(s) to improve the air flow for the new air cooler ;-)
This is one of the reasons why I will NEVER consider a liquid cooler! I bought a Noctua NH-D14 around 6 years ago. While it is a behemoth of cooler, man does it keep my CPU cool. I currently have an i7-4770K. I have absolutely no reason to overclock and the Noctua is nearly silent :)
Liquid coolers are expensive and they need a lot of maintenance.
You won't consider liquid cooling because they decided to put in a cooler that everyone has complained about everywhere and it failed. K.
Over lock my bro. Free performance. Also consider replacing the thermal paste
@@orlandoalvarez1504 there is no maintenance on aio watercoolers. Whem they go bad they must be replaced.
I have the 4790K with a noctua NH-U14S. No oc yet. But cools my cpu perfectly.
points of failure are a good way to express my avoidance of AIO and I found a good deal on a Be Quiet III for my build instead.
@mister.T Jr No it's not solved, all AIO's will fail it's just a matter of time. They might not leak but the pump will eventually give way. Why bother when a good air cooler will do the job just as well and will never fail apart from the fan which is easily replaced.
@@SherLock55 This exactly, I've had 2 Corsair AIOs fail over the years, yet my "cheap" air coolers are still going strong even in my older systems from a decade ago. I won't go back to AIOs anymore.
Paul, your videos are so soothing. Thank you.
Been an AIO user for over 10 years now. I have had 2 pump failures in that time (Maybe 8 or 9 AIO). It really hit home when my sons AIO failed and he lives across the country from me. So now I have made the switch to Air coolers for all my builds.
Paul: Look at all this dust!

I'd ditch those two drive cages at the top. Get more airflow to the hench cooler
Tasteful RGB on that RYZEN air cooler. A purpose built machine for sure. Great video and sending a shoutout to Joe - He's da bomb. Both of you, keep up the great work!
I have that same case but in black and I absolutely love it. When I built my last pc it was between that case and the lan cool 2 but I couldn’t find the lan cool in stock anywhere so after like 2-3 weeks I finally gave up and got the phantek. Very happy with my decision I love the “silent” mode with all the panels on
I've never been a fan of liquid cooling. When in doubt, a Noctua D15S is still the "cool anything as well as a dual fan AIO" air cooler. My 3900x stays just fine on it, and no chance of pump failure. Obviously for the Threadripper, you have to go with what you can get that's huge and fits.
This. Never wanted to deal with liquid anything in my computer. Thankfully I never have to.
For 13 years I've done nothing but custom loops in my personal rig and never once had an issue. No pump failures, no leaks....nothing. Give it a try, much more rewarding than putting a boring air cooler in and calling it a day.

A good air cooler can last you a lifetime. I have a friend who has had and used the same Noctua NH-D14 for 10 years, other then requesting new mounting brackets from Noctua from a Core 2 Quad to his 9600K same cooler but better performance then when he got it.

Looks like that machines cooling system caught the Rona 😆
5:28 Feels nice watching things be clean!
What liquid were you using to clean the cpu? 🤔
It's Isopropyl Alcohol which contains over 99% pure alcohol which evaporates leaving behind no residue even if it gets inside the pins.
See you vacuum the dust filter was so satisfying.
Given the improvement in air coolers these last few years, i think my current build is the last one that will be water cooled. I can easily think of other ways to spend the money!
Rob Emyrs.
It's not the last few years. Air cooling has been a great choice for 9 years. Since the NH-D14 came out.
Rocking a D15. thats a 7 year old design i think yet is one of the best performers still.
Air cooling hasn't really changed that much. Even 10 years ago you could have bought a thicc boi air cooler that cooled a 2600k @4.7GHz down easiely. Even fans haven't got significantly quieter since then.
@@maYdaY1337 I think you're possibly a little out of touch with air coolers? They've evolved quite a bit in the last decade; not just the fans, but the nature and quality of the entire ensemble. Material technologies, heat piping, liquid within the heat pipes, arrangement and density of fins. I'll grant you, individually they may not be overwhelming - but combined as a complete package? It's quite substantial.
Air cooling is meh. It works but its boring. Half the fun of a custom loop is planning it and putting it all together...dont get that with a boring air cooler.
Perfect example of why I just go air cooling on my rigs.
An absolutely great video that I enjoyed watching immensely. The only thing that struck me as odd was checking the CPU temps and declaring everything a success, before the chassis was reassembled. Proper air flow cannot be judged until all the side panels have been put back on.
That is a fine looking rig. Even if aesthetics wasn't the goal, that air cooler really made it look like it was.
Been lucky my H100i has been in for 7 years and temps still perfectly fine but I do have an old system with a 4770k cpu. Pc is always on and rarely is turned off.
I also had a water cooling that I was using for eight years and cero problems, I think the failures of it only depends on if you are lucky or not.
Same on a 4790k (6.5yr). Won't even throttle on the balanced setting, so it never gets loud.

I’ve run an aio for years with no issue. It’s just this enermax model that has this issue.
i bought a deepcool castle 360 EX and i love it. low temps and they have anti leak technology and a good rep. Just do your research. There's a lot of memes on Enermax one being the infamous "my time has come" for processors.
@@SirQuacks no, there have been plenty of failures over time of all sorts of AIOs. If a pump fails, you lose 99% of your cooling, if it leaks, you potentially brick your entire system, and over time, they do weep liquid. Fan fails on an air cooler? you throttle a bit, and your PC gets quiet and it is pretty noticeable when it fails. Super easy to replace a fan, not super easy to get any money for replacement parts from AIO manufacturers if it is out of warranty and kills your system.
So again, no it isn't "just this enermax model that has this issue", others have had similar and equally catastrophic issues.

Great video.. Building new computer and switching from Corsair AIO (it's been great these past 4 years) but am choosing to go with air cooling for new build myself (Noctua NH-14D)
The vacuum cleaning part is so satisfying
Why did he used a vacuum rather than a compressed air?
I've never had an aio, and I'll never have one. It doesn't seem to be reliable.
They are, but the lifespan is more limited, and there are those additional points of failure...pump, seals, etc.
@@cbysmith if that's not the definition of unreliable, idk what is. I've had the same air cooler for 5 years, and I bet it won't fail soon. (And the only maintenance I do is blowing it once a year with my breath).
Yeah. I prefer custom water cooling or a good air cooler over any AIO, doesn't matter which AIO it is.
@@MirelRC yup either go FULL water cooling or just go air cooling. I don't know why the AIOs.
Nzxt kraken's are pretty reliable and they have a good warranty on them
Good Video. I did the same thing. Switch from water cooling to air cool simply because it started to gunk. But this was on a machine built in 2013. I replaced it with the Artic Freezer 33e sports one. It wasn't the coolest air cooler but was about 3 to 5c within the water cooler's range. Not bad.
Had the exact same issue this past week, with my Fractal Celsius S24 starting to acting up. So I swapped it for a air cooler too.
Lowkey want to know what vacuum that is 😂
It looks like it's a Shark Navigator. I saw that because the handle looks a lot like mine just in a different color.
I’m dying to know this answer!!
Vacuum isn't that important, that bristle attachment is the interesting thing and many vacuum brands/models have those.
"Lowkey" most useless word/words ever.
I thought vacuuming you pc was a bad idea.?
15:10 NO I/O-SHIELD ! WTF ?!
They forgot about the brace! Lul
Yeah, wow.. Also there is a lot of stuff missing from the back of that case.
IO shields are mainly for cosmetics. The worst you'll get from no IO shield is probably just a little dust 👍
@@ph0roggy I know what i am gonna say is probably the most bizzare and one in a trillion scenario but here it goes:
I had a system with no IO shield sitting on floor then one day i heard noises so i investigated and it turned out a rat made its home/food cache in it.
Was a weird surprise when i pointed the torch on the front panel and saw the little dudes cute little face.
@@zarmaanful this is awfully cute and wholesome
my day has been made
Ive been very lucky with the Enermax liqfusion 240 I have...... so far. I keep an eye on temps just in case. I've been hearing about the dreaded gunk build up on these coolers. AND what vacuum is that Paul? I use a shop vac and blow out mines but I love the little brush on this.
I see you are vacuuming dust. I heard doing that may damage components because of an electromagnetic field that forms while doing that. So is this a special type of vacuum cleaner or...?
There is no electromagnetic field being produced by the end of a vaccuum cleaner
it can generate static electricity. its fine to vaccum your dust filters and the outside of the case, but its not recommended to vacuum inside the case or to touch any pcb while doing so.
@@LithicKing I see, thank you for the heads up!
does anyone else have a problem with the amount of SSDs that are unmounted in Joe's case?
nah mate, it's only you.
I can't believe how big the threadripper is! And the installation is so easy. Too bad I got a new pc just half a year ago, a motherboard with threadripper would of definitely been an interesting option for me.
Enjoyed this one, cheers guys
the struggle is real
wearing glasses and wearing a mask
Yes! The damn glasses fog up even when it's 25 °C outside🙁
That cooler up against the gpu is giving me massive anxiety lol
It's fine. The bracket is what's holding the cooler and is extremely unlikely to fail. I've seen a motherboard warp but only because a screw or two got loose. Even then the cooler hardly moved downward.
Besides that GPU doesn't appear to have any extra support so in a year it'll have sagged away from the cooler.
That should be the anxiety inducing part, really.:P
You would be surprised that the wraithripper isnt as heavy as people make it out. Been using one since they came out. Zero sag zero problems.
I would have more anxiety having an AIO radiator filled with liquid hanging above my components.
I agree, esp. for heat reasons. CPUs get hot and GPU backplates get hot. But, hopefully they've checked the numbers and there weren't any issues.
I feel like water cooling is nice but also high maintenance. I always just go with a nice air cooler. My last build I did one of those Chinese Snowman coolers and have to say I am impressed with it.
4:10 who else thought he was playing with/showing is the swinging door feature of the case? I didn’t realize it was stuck 😂
Wears mask for to stop diseases from transmitting. Leaves blood on friends case
Forced GPU sag. CPU cooler is all, "HEY, TOUGH GUY, THIS IS MY AREA. GET OUTTA HERE!"
He may not have had one available, but the Noctua cooler is a bit more compact and still hits the cooling numbers.
That cooler airflow arrangement seems elegant. How is it for cleaning and replacing the fan?
A little thing I learned with my own system. Having the backside of the GPU that close to the CPU Cooler can cause issues. I have an EVGA 1080Ti Kingpin Card that I had RMA'd in less than a month, then was having degraded performance after a few months on the new replacement card. My temps in HW monitor were "OK" 70s-80s C depending on what I was running. Granted my 7700K is running @ 5.1GHz 1.42V, I did not think too much of this though being delidded. I was using the Noctua NH-D15 and had the same clearance as you showed in an ITX board/case that I cut to add a couple fans and removed the plexiglass from the side panel after drilling holes in it for more airflow. It was my first time overclocking anything, and I overclocked everything learning through trial and error; so user error is definitely a factor. It was not until I looked into the EVGA software that I noticed even though the GPU die temp was 80C, the backside of the GPU was 99C. Got a GPU stand and PCIe extension turned my case on its side and mounted the GPU like a shark fin. Immediately my CPU temps dropped to 60s C on a sustained load, with 75C being the occasional max. GPU was still in the 70s and after the confidence of re-applying the thermal paste on the GPU (which was much less daunting than I initially felt), my GPU never goes over 60C. Unfortunately, Z270 did not allow for a CPU upgrade. Fortunately, my CPU still runs @5.1GHz 24/7, and a lot more experience for when I get a chance to build a new system.
"its pretty packed with stuff"
where? i can parallel park a semi in there.
