Perhaps, it could have been easier all the way to just use a case with a little more headroom, then you could use the larger cooler. Not a lot larger but enough to use the coolers you already considered at some point. Obviously, this case is not intended for a high heat system - like you have, it is probably intended as a passive cooled system

@@xxtovarichxx that's a really good point. I'm assuming he just used it because he needed a surveillance build and Dr zaber sponsered a build at the time, but no reason to keep it in there now. With regards to the AIO in a 24/7 build, at this point, aios are plenty reliable enough. Failure rates are incredible low and the pumps are rated for a rediculous amount of hours, I believe asetek is 70000 hours or 8 years mtbf. 24/7 heat will cause more stress, but not enough that I would worry about it.

You had me at Paul's "quick fix" in the title and a picture of the angle grinder. This can't end well.
My own "quick fix" a couple days ago, was to fix a nagging nit of a problem by "quickly" flashing the bleeding-edge OpenWrt software image onto my router before doing the dishes and laundry etc.. Two days of panic and sweat later, I managed to un-brick the router and flash the exact same firmware I had the nits with. Guess which nits I'm happily willing to live with until they release the official upgrade. I can un-clench and go do those dishes now.

Nice job on that cut out-! A nice chrome wire grille would work well on that exposed fan and not hurt airflow or noise at all. I use em on cases that have punched fan exhaust holes because this makes fans louder, the round wire chrome grilles are the quietest grilles ive found and almost indestructible especially in an exposed area like this. I cut out the punched opening and install the chrome wire grille over it, makes a very functional mod.

For the U-channel wrap, you can just cut the bottom side of the rubber a tiny bit shorter (roughly how wide the adjoining side channel is) and let it hang over to take up the gaps in the corners. basically notching it out so you have a flap that hangs over the edge of your cut. I've done the same with Drywall cornerbead for a window. You could 45 it but I'm guessing that's harder with U-channel to pull off.

i have thought alot about pc home survey-lance and the one conclusion i have come to is no matter what you will WANT to pay for offsite storage. Because the point of camera set up's are for the unexpected and what if that involves the loss of your camera power unit and device. SO without proper backup power and dedication for cameras i feel a diy solution is far more expensive than required considering you can probably bundle security with your internet for less than it would cost just to rent server space with enough bandwidth to handle your cameras feed.

The NH-L9a (NH-L9a AM4 for updated mounting solution) is the AMD version of that first cooler, so I'm not sure if the NH-L9i is going to be any good to you even with an extra bracket.
I think you may have preferred to get the NH-L9x65 SE-AM4. It would still need a hole cut in the case, but much smaller and has the same cooling capacity as the NH-L12S.
However, if you find the original
NF-A12x15 slim fan that came with the NH-L12S, you do have the option of mounting that inside the case so there are no spinning blades for little fingers to touch 😆

Why not just a 120mm AIO again? Worst case you cut some holes in the side panel over the GPU chamber to let air pass through, but you keep things inside the case that way.
Did a similar mod to a RVZ-02 for a friend's build, worked really well. Just get a short GPU (or in your case, a hard drive), and with the hole I cut to pass air thru from the outside, into the rad, and thru the other side, temps were great.

in fact I'd recommend using a Threadripper(gen1 preferably) machine for the PCI express lanes so you can have all the cameras to one machine. also to do it right.... I'd see a custom home surveillance machine costing in the ballpark of 2000 - 3000. only cause the SDI capture cards you'd need to have all the camera's terminate at the machine costs about $400-$600 a pop for 4 to 8 cameras per card.

Why would you build with a low profile case, then hack it up and put a cooler on it that literally doubles the width? Makes no sense at all.

Paul, mitered corners are your friend. For those in the audience, mitered means instead of cutting the rubber of at 90 degrees (a square corner), you cut it at 45 degrees to bisect the 90 of the corner, which means both rubbers overlap half the angle, resulting in a clean seam and no "naked" gap where they join. So, hold the snips at 45 degrees instead of 90 and done, no ugliness. Just remember the needed length is the short part of the snip angle, not the long "ears" part.
Paul, Dr Zaber hates you now, he went through a great deal of planning to make a small, beautiful, and versatile case, and you murdered it. Nice overall job though, you recovered a LOT more face than I figured you would, based on your (and my own) history.
Nice b-roll and editing, but that was Joe of course. Heh heh. Even if you didn't destroy anything really, I think the general expectation with the angle grinder thumbnail will get those mad clicks for you anyway. :-)

Pauls 'DIY' videos are always funny... mainly because it shows people exactly WHAT NOT TO DO if they want something done properly... He's a bodger and the perfect example of why you should do things right the first time. It will save you time and money in the long run. It doesn't matter for some one who's so privileged and doesn't have to actually pay for the things he's bodging.

why all the mouse these day do not have lefy click and right click on the mousewheel is out of my comprehension. that why i keep fixing my LG G9 and G9x over and over again
DPi can be adjuste by 50 dpi not just lock at not 200 hundred. like mostly all mouse do these day. so sad fricking sad. they need to make this mouse comeback asap.
Once you play for long time with a mouse that increase by 50 DPI you cant never coome back, so much more precision in any FPS, more than, dispay port this, diplay that, 144 mhz, 1MS bullcrap
even if they do make a little difference its nothing like 50 dpi increment and a mouse wheel 3btn is also such a mazing option to have. just buy a razor viper mini and i don't use it bcuz of the single click mousewheel. great video once again Paul

Are there CPUs which do not require cooling yet still run fast? I am thinking something with more cores but slower clock. Or a larger die with the cores on the chip spread out a bit. Back in the day there were motherboards sold that were dual CPU.

Paul is it better to hold off on a new built pc for the DDR5 ram and the pci 4 or just up grade now? Ex my CPU is a 6700 I7 and the board chip set is X170. Going is a 1080.

17:25 *sigh* I guess he never thought to just cut the trim at a 45 degree angles to make a clean corner.
