My teacher talked about such random stuff, like how binary works, and although that's probably important, and helps us understand bit depth and bit rate...he NEVER got to compression, EQ, panning... so for an entire semester I sat there wondering when we were going to get to the actual recording and mixing...I didn't take the 2nd semester !!!! I learn WAY better from You Tube, online, and from asking friends "got any good tricks or points about recording?".

It looks to me the micro lectures video was made for PT10 (or earlier version), is there any important difference between PT10 and 12 apart from the layout design?

Great vid, not sure why you're getting some unkind comments, I'm very grateful for this. I'm coming back to PT after about a 5 year gap. I got so frustrated with AVID's attitude towards what they consider to be "bedroom producers" - home audio professionals. Last time I used it the pinch feature on Mac trackpads didnt work in Pro Tools - I hope that has since changed..??

I've never used Pro Tools and want to know if you can isolate tracks from a older song and loop it and slow the part down without changing the pitch so you can learn the song or section? Meaning for example can I load a Zeppelin, Van Halen or whomever onto my computer then using Pro Tools break that song's tracks down (guitar, bass, drums, keyboard) so it's the only part you hear and slow it down without changing the pitch? Also can you set that track up on a continuous loop so you don't have to keep restarting a part?
I also would like to know if you can do that with Pro Tools is it possible to remove certain tracks and record my own tracks and use the other tracks. Such as say I wanted to remove the guitar or bass track from a older song and record my own parts while keeping all the other tracks (drums, guitar, bass, vocals)?
If I can do this with Pro Tools which version would be best for doing that? Which system is better and Easier to use, PC or Mac?
If I can't do this with Pro Tools does anyone know of Software or Device that can? Preferably one that's Dummy Proof or geared for Dummies, as that has my name all over it.

    • @JonAndrew123
      @JonAndrew123 8 років тому

      +Ryan Bayaca
I would recommend starting off with Pro
Tools | First or Pro Tools Trial, both can be found on
      www.avid.com/US/.
They are free of charge for a trial period. They got the basic
features of the more professional versions, and most of the features
covered in this tutorial, so they will be a good starting point for
me to recommend. One of the best thing about Pro Tools in my opinion
is that they don't change the layout/design to much from one version
to an another, so it will be easy to get used to a more professional
      version in the future.
      Cheers!
