Loved the last question and answer! 😂
No no, whaT the f..k was that?? Comon, no coment...
Got me dying 😂😂😂😂😂
I came to comment the same thing 😂
I actually wear my 90s 36mm Blue seamaster more than my new seamaster white dial. I really like how thin they were plus the wave texture dial is great.
This video was 100% greatness. Good questions, great answers and humor. Thanks.
Love you man you’re the best watch UA-camr out there!! Keep it up!!
The incredible shrinking Fed! Looking good, my man!
Well done Fed, as always. Concerning the "watch list" I do totally agree with you. Right price, right moment. And I'd like to add, sometimes there are watches that just are there and you never thought to buy one, but seen in reality just scream "BUY ME!!!". I had a couple like that and never regretted the expense.
I have a vintage Rolex. A 1665 great white rail dial. Yeah it's great but of course lume doesn't work on vintage, service is tricky since you don't want the hands or dial messed with and movement parts are getting scarce, and water resistance, who wants to take the risk getting it wet? Also, plastic crystal. Sure you can polish it but for a new watch person it's too much to worry about.
First time watch owner I would highly suggest a Neo vintage DJ, Exp or exp2.
I used to collect vintage watches, until I had to service each of them, then I sold the whole collection. Thanks Fed for the video.
If they are modern, you don't service them?
@@void1984 If they are modern they might stay 10 years without a new for service. Vintage watches need more taking care of.
Funny last answer
Agree on Fed’s comments on the Cartier is spot on.
Scratches on the high polished bezel of the Santos are only really noticeable in direct light. Scratch on PVD will be noticeable in any light.
Love it Fed!
Didn’t any punches on the Cartier with PVD. TRUTH! 👍🏻
Just purchased a vintage/naked Cartier Santos Carree "Or Mastiff" with NO regrets.
Dammit, I fell in love with those glasses a while back and I hate that I can't find them anymore.
Fed, Cartier uses ADLC vs PVD for the bezel coating. Its ceramic like and rock solid. I have a Santos with the black ADLC coating and I beat the crap out of it and it still looks new. I wouldn't be too worried about scratching it.
thanks fed :)
I did a lot of research before buying vintage Rolex watches. As of today I have 4 vintage Submariners left. Love them! I prefer vintage or neo-vintage Rolex watches to the modern crop.
My experience with vintage was not too good. I bought a Rolex 1675 box/papers from Bob's Watches. I sat on it for a few years (tried to sell it myself) then I called Bob's Watches back and they just gave me an extreme low ball offer of $12,000. I bought it from Bob's at $22,000. Just a big head ache!! 🤑🤑🤑🤑
That's the used market seller's mantra: sell high, buy low.
I prefer omega than Rolex. I have both brands
Federico, he is what he is, one of a kind.
I think if its an iconic model better to buy new, even if its a entry luxury watch and not exactly the mkdel you wanted because repair for old watch could be realy expensive, better to buy something who could let you secure of problems for some years,of course some model didnt exist in new and if you want a specific old model well there is no other choide, just take the risk...
Hi there,
I have two Subs with green bezels: one is darker and other one is lighter coloured bezels, both purchased last year and to kept and loved for ever, love all my watches.
And here is a question, if God forbid something and I will absolutely HAVE to sell a watch, which Sub should go?
Thanks,
MD
Omega 2254.50 and similar watches from that 90s-2000s era are great "affordable" options. Also the first generation of Aqua Terras
Awesome period for omega watches. Once you go 2254 you never go back
lol. Hilarious question at the end.
I DMed Fed asking if he replies to DMs and haven't heard back. I'm just looking for clarification.
I will buy modern one. I don’t believe i can handle vintage well. Just think it like buy a car, if you have good mechanical skill and believe you can fix all problems, you can buy old second car but if you don’t better buy a new car
That blue PVD is not it.
I would say tho that for me the first watch being a yee olde rolex had the effect of luring me into the mystique of time
If vintage is anything over 20 years old, then vintage can be fine, depending on the model and brand. I own a vintage no date sub 14060m, that was serviced by Rolex in 2019. It has a relatively modern movement on no complications that can go wrong. I think vintage needs more research than just wondering into store is all. Also, modern watches tend to have a higher guess rating, useful in today's electronic world.
modern over vintage any day
was really interested in buying a Rolex precision but the over polish and servicing put me off
you are da best
Flopping bracelet that’s a good thing Fred?!😅
Jahajaj the Adam comment! 😂
Modern Omega
"but it is what it is" - drops the mic
Why didn’t he discuss re-sale value or appreciation over time?
Because he is from the school “buy what you like” not buy the hype or to flip/invest.
@@zegervanaschvanwijck7749 Rolex has a clear advantage should “what you like” change.
Picking up a Seamaster 600 this month. It’ll never appreciate like my Sub date has (over 20 years) but it should hold value if found at a decent price.
I’m not into vintage stuff, but would choose an Omega. You can get a deal on Omegas, they have a better movement, and Rolex prices are out of control.
Because watches aren’t investments unless you’re spending millions.
@@TheBajamin my point is that people should consider trade-in, resale, situation, change, taste, change, having kids, or whatever when making major purchases. I don’t really see why this is such a sticking point for some people.
@@jakeizlove because its a watch and you should buy what you like. Do you buy your shoes based on resell? Do you buy your refrigerator based on resell? What about a necklace you bought? You personally can consider whatever you want, but it’s jewelry, so buy what you like.
I think it’s his European flair and je ne sais quoi
How old is considered vintage?
I consider 80s and 90s neo vintage which I think is the sweet spot. Maybe 85 and older should be considered vintage.
Maybe like Andrew here you can just pull an arbitrary cutoff date out of your butt and go with that 😂
Vintage is meaningless. It's in the eye of the beholder.
50-70s is vintage.
There’s no set definition. But generally antiques are over 100 years old. Vintage is usually 40 or more years old. Though some places will claim 20, I don’t agree with that. Something from 2004 isn’t vintage IMO.
Any vintage rolex with a 1570 movement is money in the bank. Classic timesless design, still good timekeeping, good resale value. Bargains can still be hunted, and fakes of this Era are easily recognized if you study up just a bit. Omega is a beautiful watch, but as they say, that dog won't hunt.
Follow a few watch guys online (probably the same ones we all follow... TB being the top of the list and used to also follow this guy who calls himself the Time Teller...although sometimes entertaining his response to my question about Marathon told me he didn't know WTF he was talking about. He said he didn't like it because it was cheap and plasticky. First, it's not about whether he liked it or not its that his description and reason for not liking it is entirely made up and does not describe the watch at all, which is a hefty well built watch meant for military use.). Fed has always been approachable and straight up and honest. Add to that his broad and deep knowledge of all the major brands and watch history and you get what you need from any watch guy. Not to bash others on your site there Fed but the fact remains you and Teddy are the top two IMO. All others are a distant second. Andrew Morgan is up at your level as well.
Ha, similar thoughts about the Time Teller! To add to your list, I love TGV's style, he makes very watchable videos.
Teddy's videos are always one sided though. He's not really objective at all
@@lonewolfemcquade8133 I don't agree necessarily. He has plenty of videos where he discusses both pro and con of each brand. Whether he ultimately lands favorably or not is not the issue since we are all entitled to our own opinions...what matters is if he can objectively both be critical and give praise. Teddy does that most of the time.
@@lonewolfemcquade8133 I disagree but respect you have a right to your opinion. Teddy has his favorites, he likes the Bauhaus simple modern style...he's never made that a secret, repeated his affinity for this style and associated brands clearly repeatedly. That's not one sided in my opinion. That's just preference. However, he likewise shows respect and appreciation for all watch brands for what they are and clearly describes downsides, even with watch brands he likes.....to me that is the definition of objectivity (the ability to see both pro and con of any watch brand, regardless of whether they are a brand you personally like).
federico, the italiano
agree with your sexiness, as far as my hetero guy opinion counts :) I'd say it's the mix between brutal honesty and adorable teddy bear for me; in sum, the fact that you aren't afraid being yourself, and show true compassion for your topic.
Fed’s comment on buying watches is the best way to buy ANYTHING. Save your money and then wait for the right deal.
You should buy a Neo-Vintage Omega 📈
vintage rolex or new omega - none of these ...
Hmmm a vintage Ferrari or a modern Hyundai… decisions decisions…
Neither. Vintage Omega every time. I have a birth year (1972) Geneve, an 80s Seamaster “dress” watch and the mid-90s “Bond” Seamaster. Love all of them.
how about none of these! i'd get a Tudor- essentially 5 digit Rolex reissues (plus a better value than overpriced Omega!)
5 digit movement better
@@brownmcpherson5724 well; Tudor is transitioning to METAS- will only improve and improve (potentially even over Rolex)
Seamaster Railmaster only $4,300 retail, paid $3,000 new. I think better value that poor mans Rolex. 😂
@@melissasmess2773 perhaps; but in your case, you'd end up with a 'Seamaster Railmaster' which apparently sells in such little volume-- Omega itself will become a poor watch company if not discontinued and they don't Panerize (overprice everything in the model lineup!)
@@melissasmess2773 but.....'Seamaster Railmaster' is such a loss leader and sells in such miniscule sales volumes---it stands a high chance of making Omega itself a poor watch company!
Whatever you do, you MUST make sure it’s a recognized brand, or else other people may not be able to notice
Total misinformation re the Santos. It is ADLC, not PVD. Much, much harder to scratch than PVD
You’re wrong. But okay. This is a copy paste from Cartier themselves: MC. Steel case, PVD bezel, steel crown set with a faceted blue
@@TheBajamin he's not talking about the blue one. But okay.
@@richardwilson3364 he literally showed the blue one. The question was about PVD. He explains about scratches on the PVD. Then mentions the high polish. I have no idea what you’re talking about. You said “total misinformation”. They were explicitly talking about the PVD.
@@TheBajamin sure buddy. Keep ranting
@@richardwilson3364 sorry you can’t just admit you were wrong. Pathetic.
Limited edition? Purchase a Roger W Smith. There’s your answer…..🤣
If you want a Rolex just save for a new one because the Omega will never satisfy that itch.
FIRST!!!!!!!
Vintage Rolex, even with the tin can Seiko 5 esque bracelet, its better than Omega.
Insane talk. Rolex is one of the most mass produced watches on earth. They aren’t unique or rare. And are barely impressive. They have hype and history. That’s it.
@@TheBajamin Shhh Rolex owners are talking
@@ListenToPowerViolence so idiots? Carry on then.
none of the above, keep ur money in ur pocket. watches are for douchebags anyway
well, a new omega halves its price, a vintage rolex submariner will only go up in price. vintage is the new thing, don't buy a new rolex……….
