My 3 surprises are. 1. I thought I would sleep in late, still get up at 5-a everyday. 2. I travel a lot less, one tank of gas last 3 weeks. 3. I shop for bargains and watch what I spend. Great channel Buzz, love your honesty and humor.
🤣I'm doing the exact thing. XXX
XXX
Thank you for watching!
I’m not traveling as much as I thought I would either, have a great day!
Hi Buzz from Superior WI. I retired January 2022 at 62. I used the first 3 months to recoup from about 45 years of working. I was pretty worn out feeling and needed a rest. Then I slowly added things to keep busy and started thinking about how to make my home maintenance free so I can age in place. I balance this with a little travel within the U.S. I have no regrets about retiring early. I love the freedom to get up when I want and do what I want. I bought an inexpensive Fitbit and have been walking now for almost a year. I had to start at a low number of steps but have ramped it up quite a bit and also stopped smoking. I have noticed an improvement in how I feel physically and mentally. Keep up the good work! XXX ☺️
You did retirement right! Good job! Buzz
xxx I like beginning my day with Bible reading and prayer to my great God and savior Jesus Christ.
I go to church every morning. Really sets up the day very well in the right mode.
"I don't know what damn day it is, nor do I care." Buzz YOU are living the dream 😂. Love it. xxx
I actually don't care. It's sweet!
Buzz, you can’t remember what day of the week it is because when you’re retired, everyday’s a Saturday!!! XXX
True!
I also subscribe to Dwayne not because I’m in need of financial advice but because I enjoy seeing how people deal with different issues. You have a gentle laid back mannerism I find relaxing. I’ve been retired for several years and I just turn 67. Keep up you videos please, I look forward to them. XXX
Thank you!
I have three surprizes I discovered in retirement too.
1. My back hurts in the morning.
2. EVERYONE who knows Im retired has a project they need my help with.
3. My back hurts at night.
Great video! Now Im going to find my heating pad and Ibruprofin.
You're funny! With me it's my knees! Thanks for watching! Buzz
We’re list makers. We’re never bored. Always something to do. It does take a while to fall into a good routine.
I retired on September 29, 2023, and I had the best Oktoberfest month of my life.
We were retired almost the same time! My last day was the 21st, a Thursday. I couldn't handle coming in on Friday so I took a last minute vacation day. Thank you for your comment!
Since I live in Houston, the time of year the weather isn’t “nice” down here is actually June through September because of the heat. October through May is what I consider “glory time” when the weather is beautiful to be outside and getting work done around the house!
I actually find merit in retiring at the START of the down months - I feel like I am so burnt out from toiling away in the hellhole of Corporate America that I intend to give myself a month or two at the start of retirement to just do NOTHING! That will be my window to drop the stress associated with constant deadlines, perpetual fires to put out via email, and the 24/7 pummeling you take in the modern workplace because of the constant access associated with texts and cell phone calls!
If I actually accomplish anything at the outset it will be fine - but my plan is that the first few months is the time period where my goal is to simply throw off the heavy burden of perpetual workplace stress and get myself to a point where I feel “human” again……..👍
My wife told me to do nothing for a few months after retirement, but it was hard to do believe it or not! Thanks for watching! Buzz
Buzz
You need to remember that when you were 10 years old each year represented a whopping 10% or your life experience, when you get to 65 each year only represents a mere 1.5% of your total life experience, soooooo, it should be expected that the years begin to blur as they wizz by at an alarming rate comparatively. So don't be alarmed when they are a little blurry, just make the best of every day and carry on. 🙂
Never really looked at it that way. Interesting. Thank you for sharing. Buzz
My 3 surprises in no particular order, Buzz, Steve & Duane.😊 xxx
Both of those guys are great!
I thought I'd weigh in, also, as a woman. I retired 9 years ago at the age of 62. I taught 35 years as a primary grade teacher ( grades K-2, mostly 2nd). I think because those young kids kept me so busy, not to mention the paperwork I did on my own time, I had stayed so busy I felt the need to stay busy in retirement, too. So, the first 5 years I volunteered and jlined groups and did volunteer work with them. Then, Covid happened and I finally slowed down. I have hobbies I love ( reading, quilting, walking) so I still stay busy enough. Love your videos, Buzz. Keep it up. We are a frugal couple and I love seeing your monthly expenditures.
Thank you for the career that you engaged in. You helped form the minds of hundreds if not thousands of young men and women. I applaud you! Thank you for watching and I did see the other comment so I'm only answering ones that do not match the rules so that all we'll have left is the eligible ones. Buzz
I still love retirement I work around on the farm as I please and take a small nap every day.
I could see myself napping in a pasture. Buzz
Buzz, Ima 'bout ready to load up the truck with insulation, wallboard and a wood stove, and come over and help you insulate and heat that garage !! And I would bring some "knife making materials too" !!! You can't believe how much fun it is to make knives as a hobby. I've made many dozens, and leather sheaths to go with them. It's a great hobby for wintertime, and as hobbies go, it's fairly inexpensive.
Give me some time. This winter I may do something like that. Having a wood stove would be cool and I'm taking down 11 trees soon. (small ones) so I'll have firewood. I love knives and I carry my little Kershaw everywhere. I never thought about making them though. Hmmm. Buzz
My 3 surprises have been that our overall expenses are higher than I imagined (mostly my hobbies), I agree that time flies (except for the winter) and the winter months do provide a challenge to stay active in the Boston area where it’s cold and the days are short. I’m trying to find less expensive hobbies and we drive to Florida with our dogs for part of the winter where the weather is much nicer and we don’t slip on ice.
If you think you might have an interest in disc golf , you will find many courses are free or can be accessed all year for a one time fee. Plus it’s good exercise
XXX Enjoy your transparency. Congratulations on 10K!
Thank you!
Thank you Buzz for the great videos! 7.5 years till retirement!!! XXX.
Great video as always Buzz. My plan is to retire in November. Still seems so far away. But I work in HR and was excited this weekend to figure out I only had at most 12 pay periods left!! Woot!! XXX
You'll get there fast. You're going to love it!
I love it when you talk about the things you are doing in retirement, like your lawn updates, your sale finds at xxx store, your forgetfulness of the day! Seriously, thanks for a really cool channel.
You are sooo kind!
I'm so exxxcited about retirement. My day comes in just 3 months. I'm looking forward to waking up and doing whatever I feel like and just generally decompressing from 40 years of working nonstop. Thanks for your videos. They're really helpful.
You're going to love it!
Hey Buzz - ❤XXX your channel! Get this…we retired, sold our house, and moved to our retirement destination all in one day on May 31st - whew, we’re still catching our breath. Change is great!
Hope you found the perfect spot to retire! Buzz
My husband and i are both retired. We live near a small town. It sounds so nice where you are! I wish we lived closer to more stuff to do. We have to drive to get to anything. Thanks for the videos. Keep up making those videos!!! xxx
I'm glad I'm close to things. Makes everything easier. Buzz
Enjoyed your video. Time flys when your having fun. Keep them coming. XXX
Thanks for watching and playing! Make sure to stay subscribed so you don't miss out on next month's contest! Buzz
The only way I remember the day is by looking at my vitamin pill box :) xxx
Seven years for me - husband 5 years. Enjoying every day but can’t believe how fast the time is going by! xxx
Great retirement video! xxx We retirement more than twelve years ago and we started our retirement with a wonderful trip to Florida to see the spring training games. We traveled often til Covid hit but I think we are going to start up again next year. We have not been bored one minute and the days just fly by. Hope Dwayne is ok.
Thank you for watching! Haven't seen any Duane updates yet so that's concerning. Buzz
Hi Buzz, just found your channel today. I'm not retired yet but I already know what I want to do when I retire. I'm a structured person and like to live with a purpose. I guess if you work five days a week commuting everyday that will automatically put you in a structured mode in a way. Now I realize I need to layout my "structured" list of sport activities, house things, learn to be a better cook, exploring new places, volunteering etc that I want to do within the week. I will definitely add in a" do nothing" shift occasionally to truly enjoy retirement. You are a great man, Buzz! Thank you for your wisdom and your fun channel.
You're very kind! Thank you for being here and sharing your thoughts. Buzz
I enjoy the end of the month spending videos the most!! XXX
XXX Enjoy your videos. Just turned 65 so I'm deciding to retire or go to 66 and 10 months.
So glad things are going good for you with 8 months under your belt! I enjoy your videos - the longer the better - and your ramblings so keep them coming! Thanks! XXX
Thank you! Buzz
Thought you had an earring then for a minute ( the paper towel holder behind you ) with the silver dot!🤣xxx
No earing, no tattoos, no piercings. Boring Buzz
XXX … I want to thank you for all you’ve shared. We’re looking at retiring soon and your common sense suggestions and observations have been very helpful.
Thank you for your kind comment! Buzz
Congrats on 8 mos. 4 years for us and it seemed like it zoomed by. I’m forgetting some casual co-workers names already. Definitely have stopped dreaming about work and am into a rhythm of thoroughly treasuring my retirement. “Doing what you want to do. Not caring what day it is.” Is a great retirement mantra. Keep up the cool content. You’re like a good friend having a coffee or beer with.
I wonder how I'll feel 3 or 4 years from now? Should be interesting! I appreciate your kind words! Buzz
Retirement is a gift that I’ve made it so far. Everyday is a Saturday life is good! Not having to rush my day away is a blessing. XXX
It's soooo nice!
FYI: Update on Duane, retirearly. He is in real trouble, just saw that the wind shifted and he had to evacuate his home because of the wild fires. He is not doing well at all.
I haven't seen any news lately. I'll be checking again tonight. Buzz
This bring up an important issue. My opinion, so I'm probably wrong, but...I say: Stay away from fire hazard areas when retired! I'm semi-retired and less than a year from full retirement and my wife and I decided to NOT buy in hazard areas. I know of 2 people that lost their homes. Granted, I understand that we can't live in fear, but one should calculate the risk to reward ratio. We thought about moving to the country, but we scapped that idea.
@@BillyO8828 Hurricanes, floods, fire and tornadoes. You can find places that limit your exposure to them. There are many places. Buzz
Oh no!
I'm also amazed at how fast the time flies by in retirement. When I worked I thought retirement would seem like I had all the time in the world. XXX
Crazy isn't it!
The gas was a big one for me. Just never thought about it. Instead of every week or two I now only fill up once a month if then. Time definitely flies in retirement. Didn't find that out till late last year. The year was about gone and I hadn't really done anything I wanted. Greta video. Take care. Steve
Me being in my rookie year I'm still learning. I just have to make sure I have my act together for the long Cleveland winter. Thanks Steve. Buzz
I retired last November and was lucky to find your channel. I love your sincerity. XXX
Thank you for watching! Buzz
Just saw Duane's message on the fire as well. Prayers for him and everyone in that area. Always love your videos Buzz. My own date is coming up soon. More another day. xxx
Thank you for watching! Buzz
I just retired June 1. I’m always busy. I do keep a calendar to schedule things. I’m enjoying going at my own pace. And I sure don’t miss the stress from working. I’m working on adjusting to a fixed income!!!
Congratulations on your very recent retirement! You are going to love it! Buzz
Congratulations! Still a vacation 😂
Hey buzz, love your videos. I try to watch every video xxx
I enjoy your videos. Have a good day. xxx
Thank you for watching! I appreciate you. Buzz
I worked from home for the past 15 years so the gas thing wasn't a surprise when I retired. Thanks for the video. Women watch to the end because you're such a hunk! Your contest is a fun idea.
I think they watch because it's hard to turn away from a train wreck. Buzz
Right there with you brother ❤! Praying for us .
Love your content, Buzz! XXX
That was very kind of you to mention Duane's predicament (prayers go out to him and all those in his area....very scary time!) Even though I am not retired quite yet I do not work as much as I used to and I must say that a huge surprise to me is that I am very okay with that as I used to put a lot of my identity/ self-worth (ego maybe) into my work/job and now I am just me, not the go to person any longer and it feels quite nice! I still wake up very early and prefer to keep a morning routine even though the days end up never the same my morning still is : ) Thats funny you said you don't always know what day it is and just don't really care cause this morning I woke up and could not remember what day it was ether and I've found I am doing that more and more on days when I do not have to be working...I have heard mice don't like the smell of dryer sheets so maybe try putting some in your truck where those little shits like to nest. Have a great evening and a good week ahead XXX Buzz!!
Thank you for watching and the dryer sheet is something I should look into. Thanks. Buzz
@@BuzzRetirementGarage Love watching your videos Buzz your personality is awesome love the content and you bring a smile to my face ; ) Oh and peppermint oil smell the mice don't like either, something else to try out too.
@@user-hw9vf4pl9s Thank you for the kind words. We may have some peppermint oil around here somewhere. Usually it's a wintertime problem. Thanks! Buzz
I appreciate your videos! XXX
Buzz, your advice and positive attitude have made me a regular viewer. Looking forward to retirement and reclaiming my time for me and those things I keep putting off for another day. XXX
Thank you for watching! I appreciate you. Buzz
Congrats!!!
XXX...
Just want to touch on the "trap" that stay at home wives feel and what they have to adjust to. When hubby became disabled and lost his job...not only was he home but had years of medical problems. For me, I was home by myself everyday able to go grocery shopping, craft shopping, run other errands, take my time, eat lunch if I wanted no lunch if I didn't feel like it but I knew when 3:00 came around hubby was on his way home so I started dinner, etc. As dramatic as retiring is for the person working it is also life changing for the stay at home spouse who had the freedom to come and go, get things done but it all changes when another person is in the house all day long. And not only that, you now have no real choice in lunch because you have to make something both of you are gonna eat unless you are willing to always cook separate meals. And then hubby wants to go to the store with me and run errands with me, so you get the picture. I know you are talking about retirement but it's not easy either on the person at home now has another one with them all day long!
Great point. No one can be together 24/7.
I'm sure my wife isn't happy to see me all the time. That's why I spend the 2nd shift outside. I don't eat lunch so she does what she wants. We've been married 40 years so we're used to each other. Thanks for commenting. Buzz
@@BuzzRetirementGarage Going on 46 for us lol.
I've been watching your channel since you started. I'm glad the new hasn't worn off of being retired. I've been retired 4 years now and I still feel like I'm skipping school.

Love your transparency, xxx, and good humor. 😁
Thank you! XXX
Just found your videos. I noticed you have the same problem I had when I retired, couldn’t keep up with what day it was. I heard this somewhere and it is easy to remember now. Every day is Saturday. except one, that’s Sunday the day I go to church. So six Saturday and one Sunday.
You're right. Have to remember garbage day though. Buzz
Thanks Buzz. True words
Thank you for commenting. Buzz
XXX Good stuff Buzz, thanks
Look forward to videos keep them coming xxx
Great video as always. Thanks Buzz! XXX
BUZZ!! Good Video today! XXX.
Great video time goes by quick XXX
I have the flipside of the driving thing. I worked (retired May 31 XXX !!! ) from home, and am 12 miles from town - 20 minutes each way. I rarely went to town during the work week because an hour "lunch" meant scrambling to and from, and God forbid the errand took more than 20 minutes. However, in my first full week of retirement, I drove in about 4 times - maybe 5. And instead of curbside groceries, Walmart, or Home Depot, actually shopped. Got my butt out of the car and meandered the aisles. Have not done that since right before the pandemic shutdown.
I love this new life. I was not going to retire until at earliest end of this year, but I "got retired" as they say, and it was honestly the best thing to happen to my mood, my attitude, my outlook. Maybe notsomuch for my 401K, but I'll be okay, just on a tight budget.
Happy 6 months to you!
You are finding your way as we all do in retirement. You're doing well to try different things too. Good luck on your journey! Buzz
XXX keep up the good work!

The main thing that has surprised me in the 14 years I've been retired, is how fast time has gone by.
My "retirement" was very different from yours though. When I left the big corporation in the city, we were already heavy into the horses. So I was immediately much more busy at the barn with the horses. My youngest and I showed horses for years ( she's grown up, married and lives 1000 miles away now ), so I was busy will all that for the first decade of retirement.
So that's my comment: have something else you love doing already in the works when you leave "the main deal workin' for 'da man".
I never developed any hobby like horses to get me through retirement. Like I mentioned in the video, I've written 68 possible hobbies (so far) and we'll bring them up in another video. Buzz
XXX I enjoy your channel! Keep enjoying your retirement, I have been retired 2yrs in July
I love it xxx. Great comments. I had watched Dwayne just before yours and he was very fortune to escape the fire.
You are definitely not rated for mature audiences only, but thanks for the laugh! I'm sure someone will enjoy getting a trip to the Amazon! 😂 I like the idea of shifts! I tend to squirrel from project to project. I may try focusing on one thing per shift! Or, maybe just put it off until tomorrow! Still loving retirement. Have a great week!
Thank you for watching. Maybe you'll enter next month? Buzz

Thank you for watching and congratulations on your upcoming retirement!
Hello brother ❤good seeing you again 😊
U mention how time flys. When I was working kids, you’re busy you don’t think about time when I retired about 4 1/2 years ago one day in the morning I was looking at the window and I realize how time is flying by. How life is like a Sandglass it keeps moving forward nonstop.
And keeping track of the days when I worked, I knew what day it was when I retired. You don’t know what day it is. Lol I did put a lot of miles like you on my car when I worked now I might do 250 miles a month. I used to put 2000 a month big difference as I mentioned before in my comments I do have hobbies during the daytime learn how to play guitaralways wanted to learn have a garden and I work out. Keep up the good work buzz thank you.

Thank you for watching and playing! Buzz
Got a few years to go yet, but what I look forward to in retirement is being able to get rid of about half of my clothes, have more time for my hobbies, and do day trips in the middle of the week. I think not knowing what day it is is a good sign. We have to spend so much of our lives according to what day and time it is. Great to be able to relax and just enjoy the now. Thanks for the thoughts. xxx
Thank you for watching!
