One of my favorite things you do is the Sam's Club/Costco shopping reviews! Keep 'em coming! And don't be apologetic for spending YOUR money on food items! Do people expect you to live on beans and rice/ rice and beans? The whole purpose of retirement is to enjoy it! You are doing exactly what the channel is about, living within your means. I'd say you are killing it!

My bf and i just went for a getaway this past weekend, ate at a wonderful Italian restaurant, i had lasagna, he had a small pizza, had an appetizer, i had a glass of wine, with tip it was $70, wow! So expensive to eat out nowadays, but the food was amazing!
We go to Costco and sams too. He likes soup all year around and he has better luck finding it at Sams, some of those items i have not seen in our Costco, except the guacamole, love that stuff!

Eating out is definitely expensive. Even Jersey Mike's subs, where they have Gluten free bread, costs us $45. Subway needs to get GF bread! Buzz

We go to Costco 3-4 times a year. I'm just not a stock up person, but we do go for some things (especially Vodka for my husband and olive oil for me, LOL!!). But I do stock up on AmyLu chicken products when we go - they are DELICIOUS!!! And I am going to look for those Jonny Pops - they sound wonderful. I used to get those Seeds of Change packets, but they are not "Bobby Approved".🤣 But in all seriousness, Aldi has a couple of different varieties that are a little cleaner in terms of ingredients, and not a lot more expensive. Nice to have in the pantry for a quick side with some veggies tossed in. Thanks for the post - fun and informative as always.

It's great that you're tracking all of this and can afford it, but for the more frugal among us, a lot of those processed, re-packaged foods can be made from scratch for a lot cheaper. Being a broke young soldier in a former life taught my wife and I a valuable lesson. She learned how to make biscuits, brownies, and pancakes from scratch. She can also make some killer guacamole and pico-de-gallo from scratch. All cheaper than premade, even with those COSTCO discounts. I'll make my own breakfast sandwiches with low carb bread or even better... tortillas, and with popsicle molds and fresh juice, you can make homemade. Of course, everyone's situation is different and I'm a ways away from full retirement at 67. If one can afford pre-made stuff, great. If I'm retired and have the time, though, I'm making it myself. Rock on Buzz! I'll keep watching!

OMG yes, & everything will taste better made from scratch & be better for you. The first thing I saw that made my jaw drop were the Keurig cups. Again, buy your coffee by the pound & make it the old fashion way, it will taste better & cost a fraction of what you're currently paying.

you have to figure in extra utility costs for cooking and cleaning up, costs of oils, spices etc. a $1 egg mc muffin is still a deal while Mc dee is running em that low. And the $1 chicken honey breakfast biscuit at Wendys (with some $1.49 purchase or greater) is a deal too. Just walk over , eat there with the "unwashed masses " police your table and you're done. no extra $10-20 jump in utility costs, water costs, pantry staple costs, time wasted etc.

Buzz - watching this as I wait out a storm at our Costco in Frederick, MD. Our son has Celiac and he loves the Amylu Teriyaki Pineapple Chicken meatballs. Make it with onions and peppers and it's a heck of a dinner. You get 60 meatballs for $14. Celiac friendly snacks are expensive but the dinners don't have to be! The Sonoma Tomato Basil pizza crisps are also excellent and gluten free.

I like to hear what other people have tried. I kind of stick to products we are very sure of. I don’t like to try something when it’s sold in bulk and not everything is available at a product tester counter. I had a couple of those “mistakes” that made me grumpy at myself for a minute. But since I don’t shop but once a week or less for groceries, I write that off as a loss and try to do better next time.

We make our own stuffed grape leaves. We have grape vines, so in the spring or early summer we pick leaves no bigger than your hand, and freeze them. I do stacks of 20 between sheets of parchment paper, the slide the stack in a ziplock bag and pop it in the freezer. Then you can pull them out when you want to make them. Recipes for the filling are online. Super cheap to make! And then freeze the extras. See if you know anyone who has grapes, or even a local park. Picking a few leaves doesn't hurt the plant. Just don't get too big of leaves, they end up stringy(veins are too developed). I learned to make them because we relocated to a property that has generations old concord grapes, and no restaurants in the area that serve ethnic foods, except Italian, and mine is better 😉, thanks to 3 visits to Italy.

This answered many questions. Organic gluten free prepossessed foods are the very worst in pricing. I wish you were closer. I just picked 1 dozen cucumbers, kale is growing like mad, second crop lettuce is growing great under the tomato plants, picked another dozen cherry tomatoes, I snack on garden celery (better than the store bought), you can have all the grape leaves you want.
I will be making spicy dill pickles this next week and the jalapenos peppers are ready.
I make pops from frozen mixed fruit and white grape juice. 10-20 cents a pop.
I just put things away after taking the Ebike to the grocery store. This week is higher because paper products were on sale. I bought paper products for $15 and $20 in food for the week. I will need to buy 1/2 gallon of white vinegar because I used it to sharpen my metal files. That will bring food to $23 for food. Last month was the lowest ever at $95 .

Can't even remember the last time I ate a steak and at my age I simply can't metabolize all that protein, anyway. Save money during retirement. Eat lower on the food chain!

Now I understand why your food bills are so high. You bought more processed and junk food in this one trip than we buy in a year or even two years. If we want chicken cordon blue we cook it from scratch. That way you know exactly what is in it. I made a food run on Tuesday of this week. I spent $155 and that included 24 rolls of TP, some cat food and 8 bars of soap. Like you I splurged on guacamole. $1.25 for two batches (two avocados), we will get the tomatoes from the garden and we already had the lemon. We buy our popcorn unpopped for a tiny fraction of what you paid. My wife pops it in the microwave so there is no oil involved. Of course we always took our own popcorn to the movies, back when we went to movies. I also bought a couple of pounds of Bratwurst (about five meals worth for $8 and swordfish steaks for a treat ($6.50), plus enough breakfast sausage for 7 breakfasts for me ($4.50). I also bought three gallons of milk, a half gallon of half and half for coffee etc. and about 6 pounds of cheese. We will make one more trip this month when we will buy meats (chicken, pork and maybe some ground beef for me - my wife won't eat beef). That trip will be in the $175-$200 range because it will include food for our cat "the Beast".
