My husband and I would play this song, every Friday night before we went out to our favorite beach bar. He died this week. The day after, I was standing in line at the Target pharmacy, waiting to pick up a prescription. This song came on. I don't remember ever hearing music in Target before. I think this was his way of contacting me. We were married 58 years.
It is possible for sure....There was a connection of some kind going on there. I'm sorry you lost your husband. 58 years!! You are luckier than most but take that and 50 cents and it still won't get ya a cup of coffee right?
Awesome! First concert my husband & I took our sons to was Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers. They cherish that memory & so do we! Keep blasting your music!
absolute truth ... fortunate to see two concerts as Tom's health began to fade === beyond ethereal unbridled brilliance ... Eternal Blessings Tom - a massive void exists filled with Heartbreaker Memories !!!

My dad loved Tom Petty. He died a few years ago. One of the roughest years of my life by far. Love you dad, and thanks for influencing my taste of music! ❤❤
Michael Campbell is just about perfect on every Petty song... One of the best lead guitarists ever, because he played for the song, not for his own ego. His guitar was never about showing off... just filling in all the blanks in beautifully written songs with full color!

That is the only thing that matters is being alive and contributing to the good of it all , and nobody has been able to do that better than the Legend that will Always be Tom Petty and rather have a few smiles in his honor than crying because he left to wander....So wherever they have gone the best thing to do is crank every single song and the rest is my kind of PEACE ☮️☯️💟
Benmont Tench is a great keyboard player ! I hope you've heard him sing The Old Man Down The Road ( John Fogerty song ) on Italian . It was on a videotape they released in 1989. So was the song called I'm Stupid .
I’m 72 years old I’ve been dancing since I was two years old, ballet and tap and all through my life. I was very lucky to have 70 years of wonderful music. I’ll miss it dancing with my life even if I was on the dance floor by myself I didn’t care.
The band was "Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers", but Mike Campbell made that song come alive...a song where the lead guitarist earns his money. I'll bet now that Tom is gone, that song means more to Mike, because he helped Tom run down his dream. RIP Tom, Thanks for the memories!
Sometimes I seem to forget just how great Tom Petty was. This concert reminds me very quickly just how great he was. One of the best. RIP Tom you brought a lot of beauty into this world. I was lucky enough to see him 3 times. When he did this concert in Gainesville my wife was undergoing a bone marrow transplant at Shands in Gainesville and unfortunately we were so caught up in her that I didn't even realize he was playing. It was only until a few years later when I saw this on you tube that I figured out what I had missed. Still kick myself in the ass over that one. My wife she's still kicking and is even more pissed than me that we missed this while only a few blocks away.
One day my two teenage boys were driving with their mother. She likes pop and more current music and she was scanning through the channels when both boys said, "That's Tom Petty, go back." I can die knowing I did one thing right in raising my boys.
Benmont (Benjamin Montgomery) Tench has been w Petty since the beginning. Very soft spoken gentleman who turns into a beast on the keyboard. If you go back into the catalog, he’s a big part of the magic on every song. Don’t Do Me Like That sounds like they wrote it to put him out front. Whole band is in top form on this one. We miss you, Mr. Petty.
Mike Campbell killed it! I like how he looks at his band mates after his solo, kinda like, “ok boys, put a bow on it, I’m good”. That was one of the most incredible solos ever. I’ve got it on “repeat” in my truck for my ride to and from work. Put a bow on it!

This concert was the best I’ve ever seen the band perform especially the song about being King. That night he and the band were the Kings in all of music .
We miss you, Tom. You knew how to rock and roll like few can- it's impossible not to start tapping your foot, playing fake drums, singing... you make people happy. love, earth

Tom Petty and The Heart Breakers!!!! Love Tom Petty, his songs are so great!!!! I listen to him all the time.. He rocks that guitar!!! Great dancing music!!! 💃 💃💃💃...🎶🎶🎶.. 🌹🌹🌹....
Tom Petty was the most sincere man I ever met, your millions of fans are heart broken, losing you, we LOVE YOU TOM. R.I.P. rock legend, Thank You for all of the great songs. My feelings and prayers go out to all of Tom's family.
Very nice comment! I've watched about everything about Tom Petty-- I think he was a pretty "good guy", but also an asshole/perfectionist -- like me, and thank goodness he was! ;) See the clip of Tom defending Roger McGuin -- and the album price was $8 dammit! ;)
Back in the early 80's I was a long haired TV/Stereo bench tech in Florida. There was a new TV out and the manufacturer offered a Free training school on repairing it. I met Mike Campbell's father there he was a TV repairman lol. He was so proud of Mike. He sidled up to me and asked if I had every heard of Tom petty and I said hell yeah he's great. He says "Mike Campbells my son" !!! At the time it was pretty cool. On and on he goes. Hey Mike your dad was really proud of you!
Why do you say that about Mike? Just because he is not a household name like Clapton, Page or Hendrix? Mike is not underrated at all. He is an amazing guitarist. Anyone can hear that.
A C M to say a guitarist is underrated is actually a compliment, there are many in this category. Mike is one of them and he’s fantastic (a guitar player myself) His work is amazing the way he works this solo into this song-just perfect 👌
Great song and one of the greatest rock guitar solos driven hard by one of the most in pocket drummers out there, Steve Ferone. Never get tired of listening to this!
Been there..copper's running us down...no no..out ran them many times..Jason Australia..twin turbo Nissan motor sport....300k passing raders on highway... faster than twin porsche turbo..they're still finishing dongnuts....every night...
Yeah, this song is made for a fast driving car. (Even better if it's a brand new one and this is the first CD/Selection ever played in that brand new car!)
Kevin Brown I met TP in 1977 when I was working with The Kinks and TP and The Heartbreakers were our opening act. When the tour ended I was asked to take over the keyboards for Benmont . Tough question eh ? Hung around for 30 years. I went to Tom after tours and told him how proud I was to work with him - my last TP sighting was at the show in Austin last May. He said "I didn't recognize you for a minute - You look so young! " tom was 2 months older than me, and he was a great leader for all of us. A great example for us to stand tall and "Don't Back Down" - I Loved Him.
Thank you for sharing your memories of your friend. He always seemed like a humble man, and a good friend and band mate! As a fan of his music, I loved his voice, his playing, the duets he made with Stevie Nick's were always the best, He was an awesome man and an awesome musician. His music lives on, and will play on. Thanks again for sharing your memory with us. Rest in peace, Tom. 💜✌🎸🎵
Tom Petty was one of the greatest performers of all time. He is one of just a few musicians whose live concert music sounded just as good, if not better than his recorded studio music. And Mike Campbell is awesome !!!
I used this song for my son's High School Football team's "Running Highlights Reel", and I got grief for it - 13 years ago. Now as the boys and parents are older guess what!? EPIC i'm told. UA-cam stripped it of course, but I still have it on my hard drive and will post to VenMo this year. It stands the test of time and will do so 50 years from now!!! Petty running down a heavenly dream. Mike Campbell!!! Props!!!
Lucky people in that crowd. I miss Tom Pettys music. The full moon fever album is excellent. RIP Tom. What a amazing artist. 👏 ❤ and his band the heartbreakers. ❤
I really love this man. I remember when he first had a hit way back and I knew this guy is amazing. My condolences to all his family and friends. Just so you all know we loved him so much.
Yesss. I remember the first time I drove to Manhattan from Boston and heard this when I was approaching the city and could see all the tall buildings at night. Fitting song
Yes it is a very good driving song and a good song to play along to with drums!!!! Makes ya want to go fast ❤ with caution of course 😂 We all miss you Tom and will see you in heaven 🙏 You can play for us there ✌️
Early ‘80’s saw TP & the Heartbreakers at Red Rocks Amphitheater, Denver, CO, when tickets were all General Admission (General Riot). Got there before gates opened and grabbed 15 rows from stage in the middle. Amazing sound and playing live they sounded exactly like their Damn the Torpedoes lp record.
I can remember driving past the exact spot in Melbourne in 1990 when I first heard it on the radio and pulled over to the side of the road to listen. Bought the tape for my Ute the next day…RIP Legend
EVERY time I see this video I get goosebumps...to see these guys pack out the house and give those fans everything there is to give. And the appreciation those same fans is well evident.
Saw him at his last concert in Toronto..3 months later he would be dead...it was heads above the best concert i was ever at in my life...a magical night.
I'm 68 this year and Petty was my last big rock show. Campbell ripped this solo out and brought the house down in Vancouver in 2017 and nothing was ever the same again. 🌠
I was lucky enough to meet him in the very early days, 1979 I think. And he was nice! And polite with this amazing south Florida drawl. I was so in awe that I barely said a word.
Patricia Carberry-Harris You’re so fortunate to have met him. I’ve only observed his modest, non-pretentious character through old videos. What precious talent behind those blue eyes!
Oct 2, 2017...RIP Tom my friend, joining that big band in the sky, will love you and miss you forever...I remember banging on my steering wheel when I first heard this Most Awesomest Song Ever, in the Food Lion parking lot, wishing I had a drum. My young daughter and I love you, your songs will live on forever, you are not gone, we have your songs. Shit, tears on my key board, Love you man
Here's to the Old School ROCKERS !!!! & the artists !!!! Can you believe The STONES, Sir McCartney,, Neil Young, and SO MANY others still KICKIN ASS!!!!!!!!! LONG LIVE GOOD ROCK & FUNK & BLUES & JASS & SOUL & & &
3:59 I can listen to that solo for hours. EDIT: Today is the 15th year anniversary that this magnificent concert took place! Long Live Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers. 🙏🙏🙏🤟🤟🤟
If I’m not wrong This is of the album Full Moon Fever. My x husband who sadly passed in 2016 and I played the cd on repeat driving I think to Utah from California many many years ago. Tom petty is a legend. And I won’t back down ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Yeah but even the length was just perfect... .just enough.... not unnaturally dragged out beyond the point where it runs out of juice and becomes forced.
I love this song anyway, it probably is my ultimate favourite, but this version just takes you to another level of ecstasy and is I think the best take of the song. You can see why they ended the documentary film with this. Simply stunning. Tom was a great performer. RIP Tom...

A C M to say a guitarist is underrated is actually a compliment, there are many in this category. Mike is one of them and he’s fantastic (a guitar player myself)
His work is amazing the way he works this solo into this song-just perfect 👌
there way too many under rated guitarists ,,,,,,,Lindsey Buckingham and Mark Knopfler,,,, many more............
1267jimbo
Mark Knopfler transcends all ratings just on “Sultans of Swing “ alone not to mention “ Money for Nothin”
I play it over n over every day, awesome tune. RIP Tom.
Great song and one of the greatest rock guitar solos driven hard by one of the most in pocket drummers out there, Steve Ferone. Never get tired of listening to this!
Thanks, didn't know his name but, yeah; he is killing it here ..
You could easily find yourself at 100 mph if you're not careful.
Hi friend, how are you doing today
I couldn't have said it better!
I know, right ✅️
70 years old , still love it
Those guys were soooo good! There will never be another band like them. Simply awesome!
so true !! love the drummer !!! he looks like hes pissed at those drums !! bad ass !
It doesn’t get any better than this. Professional musicians playing rock and roll together in a band for the ages. Tom Petty was a gift. RIP good sir.
Kevin Brown it's won't back down
Thank you for sharing your memories of your friend. 💜✌🎸🎵
Its Tom saying Won't telling us Don't.
words cannot describe what this video does for me. Tom Petty was the greatest American rock and roller of all time..Thanks for this
I personally find his music very spiritual
Props!!!
Hj Robert, how are you doing today
I can never stop watching this video, a timeless tight performance, RIP TP
Same
Just watched it yet again. What a way to start a Sunday. ❤
Lucky people in that crowd. I miss Tom Pettys music. The full moon fever album is excellent. RIP Tom. What a amazing artist. 👏 ❤ and his band the heartbreakers. ❤
Long live TP& HB...we miss you Tom, glad we have your tunes till eternity
I really love this man. I remember when he first had a hit way back and I knew this guy is amazing. My condolences to all his family and friends. Just so you all know we loved him so much.
One of his most awesome songs. Guitar solos Absolutely incredible. Good jig Mike.

Bvv
You sound good has one of the lover of Tom. Hope all is well with you there
One of the greatest driving songs ever.Thank you Tomx
Amazing sound and playing live they sounded exactly like their Damn the
Torpedoes lp record.
I can remember driving past the exact spot in Melbourne in 1990 when I first heard it on the radio and pulled over to the side of the road to listen. Bought the tape for my Ute the next day…RIP Legend
These stories are what makes music so special. Time stands still in those moments.
EVERY time I see this video I get goosebumps...to see these guys pack out the house and give those fans everything there is to give. And the appreciation those same fans is well evident.
Tom Petty and company Were just fabulous rockers! My daughter called me to tell me about his passing while I was in Florida
Omg indeed saw him at Wembley early 90s so good special special place in my heart Tom P they were truly Heartbreakers
Saw him at his last concert in Toronto..3 months later he would be dead...it was heads above the best concert i was ever at in my life...a magical night.
can we just appreciate the man that is going ham on the piano
I'm 68 this year and Petty was my last big rock show. Campbell ripped this solo out and brought the house down in Vancouver in 2017 and nothing was ever the same again. 🌠
You're right my friend. You look young more than your age lol. Hope all is well with you there
Tom ran down his dream, inspired millions of dreams.. One of the nicest people I couldn’t meet.
Sweet dreams in Rock Heaven Tom.
Great comment

I was lucky enough to meet him in the very early days, 1979 I think. And he was nice! And polite with this amazing south Florida drawl. I was so in awe that I barely said a word.

You’re so fortunate to have met him. I’ve only observed his modest, non-pretentious character through old videos. What precious talent behind those blue eyes!
This is an awesome song. Used sing along to it in the 80's such a great song.❤
Shit, tears on my key board, Love you man
Still will be banging the steering wheel

Me too!!👍👍
This is the best version ever done by Tom and his band ...the guitar playingvis fantastic... All in all... Is wonderful...❤
Tom Petty was the epitome of cool on stage. Not overstated just plain talent and relaxed coolness
Mike Campbell just makes this entire tune work - that jam at the end and solo is so moving!! RIP Tom, you went too soon!
TOM ALWAYS THANKED HIS AUDIENCES.....IT WAS A NICE TOUCH....RIP BUDDY.....YOU WERE A GREAT ROCKER!!!
If I’m not wrong This is of the album Full Moon Fever. My x husband who sadly passed in 2016 and I played the cd on repeat driving I think to Utah from California many many years ago. Tom petty is a legend. And I won’t back down ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
one of those guitar moments that you dont want it to end. brilliant mike campbell !!
Yeah but even the length was just perfect... .just enough.... not unnaturally dragged out beyond the point where it runs out of juice and becomes forced.
Mike Campbell's guitar playing is so underrated. He was phenomenal here.
Tom Petty was also a great guitar player until he punches a wall in a hotel.
I love this song anyway, it probably is my ultimate favourite, but this version just takes you to another level of ecstasy and is I think the best take of the song. You can see why they ended the documentary film with this. Simply stunning. Tom was a great performer. RIP Tom...
I feel exactly the same way. Could have written your comment word for word. And I keep appreciating Mike Campbell more and more.
Jeffrey Dutton Smith agreed
Mystical.
Such a great performance, just fantastic.
Nice Colleen ☺
Tom Petty will always be my favorite song writer. What a genius he was. And he was so dam cool!!
It always be my favorite here too. Hope you're cool where you are
