I met Tom Petty when I was a kid. My dad told me to go say hi to him when he recognized him at a gas station, and that he was the guy who sung this song. I told him I liked his singing. I still remember how big his smile was. I couldn't have been more than 7. Man just seemed like a normal, chill, good guy. RIP Tom.

I'm a Florida boy, grew up listening Mr. Petty's music. Here to those of us fortunate enough to have grown up here he is an icon. My ex mother in law was attending UF as Tom was playing free concerts in open field areas. As a lead guitarist there's more to these songs than you think. All of them are great. I can't believe he's not with us. One of my favorites.
You do know this video is 100% about flat earth, right? Thanks for trying to tell me way back in 1989 Tom R.I.P. I used to like Tom Petty's music , now I love and admire him as a MAN who tired to do something. This song NOW has a special place for sure.
What I like best about this song is the part they DON'T ever put in a video - "Hello CD Listeners. We've come to the point in this album where those listening on cassette or records will have to stand up, or sit down, and turn over the record, or tape. In fairness to those listeners, we'll now take a few seconds before we begin Side 2. (random farm sounds in background) Thank you, here's Side 2." As a Tom Petty fan who still has original cassettes (hate to say the 8-tracks have all bit the dust, but I did have TP&TH on 8-track) that I still listen to in my vehicle, along with my cds, as well as being a Cultural historian, I've found that Tom was a rare person who found a way to stay popular in all time periods, but also give me historical touchstones in his work that note the era in which he was working at any given time. People today don't even think in terms of albums most of the time, let alone sides to albums, they buy songs - which is why I still buy cds, because most artists still work in terms of albums, and they probably still think in terms of Side 1 and Side 2, too, even if we don't see it. Tom was always aware that he was playing for US, not just for his job. Still have a hard time writing about him in the past tense, not gonna say how many times I had to correct my verbs. I hope he's having a great time on Side 2.
KER is that the same album with a short outtake from a jam, then Tom says "do that again without the singing," then someone else replies in the most country dialect ever, "Ah LAHK the singin'!!"..?
Green Day was the best to do it! In the CD American Idiot most of the songs are continuous Holiday will segwey perfectly into Boulevard of Broken Dreams, from Track 3 to Track 4 smoothly without the song ending....
@@kevingleeson that was "all mixed up" from "let me up I've had enogh". The album with "jamming me" on it. But don't quote me. I remember when I was a little jam face and I heard refugee for the first time and thought ooooh.

My 5 year old son is working hard on his reading and numbers and he's doing well. But he knows every word of this song and sings it with me. I'm a success as a dad!
That song was removed from the Playstation 3 version, Xbox 360, Definitive Edition and mobile versions.Only in GTA San Andreas classic can you hear it.
One of my favorite guitar solos of all time. It fits so perfectly with the song. They way the guitar talks with the drums at the beginning of it. And I believe it was a single take right? Just amazing.

What? He's dead too? Almost everytime i look for those songs i used to listen in gta sa on the internet the singers always happens that they have passed away :/
Alexandra Miller Still died too soon tho, he was a real musician the world needed someone who plays instruments and writes their own songs, no auto tune performances 😞
Wow it’s already been 2 years😭
Remember how there was a report he died, they said"wait,no hes alive",then ,"oh....he is dead!"

The guitar solo at the end is one of my favorites
Jikary Jack Is it slide guitar? I thought it was, but I watched a live version and the guitarist didn't have a bottle neck, but it sounds so much like slide
That's Mike Campbell bending strings with noth'in but his fingers.
TMan4You Ah thank you sir, that's some mighty fine bending by Mr. Campbell
Jikary Jack this solo is fucking amazing :3

One of the greatest rock and roll songs of all time and I’m always singing along every time I hear it. Miss you Tom Petty 🎸
Dam fine road song. I salute your good taste.
Essa música me traz uma sensação diferente. Não só a nostalgia do GTA San Andreas, mas ela tbm fez parte da trilha sonora de um momento estranho da minha vida. Vai ficar marcada pra sempre

@IIloehxh
What year did your old teacher turn you on to tom???
how old are you!?
It was a beautiful day, the sun beat down
I had the radio on, I was drivin'
Trees flew by, me and Del were singin' little Runaway
I was flyin'
Yeah, runnin' down a dream
That never would come to me
Workin' on a mystery, goin' wherever it leads
Runnin' down a dream
I felt so good like anything was possible
Hit cruise control and rubbed my eyes
The last three days the rain was unstoppable
It was always cold, no sunshine
Yeah, runnin' down a dream
That never would come to me
Workin' on a mystery, goin' wherever it leads
Runnin' down a dream
I rolled on, the sky grew dark
I put the pedal down to make some time
There's something good waitin' down this road
I'm pickin' up whatever's mine
I'm runnin' down a dream
That never would come to me
Workin' on a mystery, goin' wherever it leads
Runnin' down a dream
Yeah, I'm runnin' down a dream
That never would come to me
Workin' on a mystery, goin' wherever it leads
I'm runnin' down a dream

Keep running down that dream, Tom.
@cjross7297 I can dig it man. Such a drag. He could make you feel better with any song. !!!!!!!!!

Thanks for the great music.

Rock In Peace, Tom. Your music will live forever. This song has a special place in my live and I will always be grateful for all of his music.

Oh, Rock & Roll, so raw, freewheeling and laid back. It can make swing a man in a wheelchair or a full stadium into an unstoppable contagious beat, in this case with likable Tom Petty and his band. You'll be missed Tom.
My 5 year old son is working hard on his reading and numbers and he's doing well. But he knows every word of this song and sings it with me. I'm a success as a dad!

One of my favorite guitar solos of all time. It fits so perfectly with the song. They way the guitar talks with the drums at the beginning of it. And I believe it was a single take right? Just amazing.
Pretty cool all right.
I dunno, usually those “first/single take” stories are made up to generate hype for the song/album.
